Yelp
First off, the reason we went there was because our regular taco spot that is half a block down on the southwest corner (across from Walgreens) was already closed by the time we got there at 12:30 am, so we wanted to give El Flamin' Taco a try and as a side by side taco spot comparison.
A few things different at El Flamin' Taco that stood out compared to the other spot was the following...
#1. They are very tight on the meat for the tacos. The other spot gives you so much al pastor that it is busting out of the taco and winds up dropping on the when you try to eat it, which is great because when you are done with the tacos, you still have a nice amount of meat on the table to indulge in.
#2. They charge $2.50 a taco which is outside of the normal $2 a taco and the tacos sizes are very small (almost the diameter "size" of a large Starbucks coffee).
#3. They don't even double up the tortillas so that when you eat them the tacos don't break apart. I mean if your charging $2.50 a taco at least double up the tacos and appreciate and take care of your customers. That's all I'm saying and this is what the other spot DOES do.
#4. They don't have the big 5 gallon juices to select from (Horchata, Mango and a few others flavors). No collage of what looks like sweating drinks in 5 gallon clear containers looking like they are inviting you to try and drink them.
So compared to the other taco stand, El Flamin' Taco gets beat by the other spot that might appear as the underdog spot, but when you go to the other spot in comparison, you realize how expensive, how tight they are, and how lacking in generousity they are for the customers money.
The tacos are ok at El Flamin' Taco, and I went along with two other people and I asked for one of their opinions (one of my friends who went with me to the other spot and was trying El Flamin' Taco along with me also for the first time), and we both agreed that the tacos were ok, but they have absolutey NOTHING on the other taco spot half a block away.
Even when I told the staff at El Flamin' Taco before I ordered that I was trying them for the very first time they seemed like they honestly didn't care, which to me is a poor and tacky atribute when it comes to customer service because as a business or employees you want to win the customers heart of everyone, especially the new ones.
So after eating there, I told them about my 4 key-point issues in comparison with the other spot just to see if they care about a new customers feedback and they simply didn't care.
So afterwards, I told tell them that I was going to give then a review in the next day or so, but actually I decided as soon as I got home to write this review right away since I had the experience still hot and fresh in my memory.
But yeah, the other spot is much better and sadly it seems like El Flamin' Taco simply does not care about a customers feedback which to me is VERY important as a business alongside customer feedback.
If anything, you would think that they would say something like, "well damn....lets see what we can do different to win you over since we have competition right down the street", but sadly they didn't care.
So as a way to make up for the not-too good experience, the tightness they have on the meat for the tacos and the tortillas, along with the high prices they charge, I got a few of their plastic sandwich bags and stacked on about half a bag of their green sauce, half a bag of their onion mix, and about 8 quarter slices of lemon ( about 2 lemons worth, actual value at the supermarket about $.50 a lemon) and called it even.
So now even though they charged more than the other place and higher than the average price for a taco, at least tomorrow morning with my tortillas on top of the fridge, my cheese in the refrigerator, and some eggs, I will be have some damn good home made breakfast tacos with plenty of sauces and condiments, compliments of El Flamin' Taco.
Now were even. :-)
