El Gran Inka - Review - Key Biscayne - Miami - The Infatuation

"El Gran Inka is a Peruvian restaurant in Key Biscayne perfect for a family lunch after a morning at the beach. Everyone could order their own big bowl of ceviche or lomo saltado, though you’ll get the most out of this place by sharing everything (so brace your dad ahead of time). The wine bottles hanging on the walls and Restoration Hardware-esque chairs make this place look fancier than it is. But it’s walk-in friendly and you can show up in Havaianas without a problem. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Trilogía De Ceviches The leche de tigre with aji amarillo is the best among the trio. Still, you’ll get that addictive citrus kick from all three. Order it mixto. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Arroz Con Pollo It’s like a paella, only bright green from the cilantro and topped with finger-length strips of delicious grilled chicken instead of seafood. But like a paella, you should scrape the rice off the shallow pan for the best, crunchy bites. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Tostones Inka This Key Biscayne parking lot will start to look a lot like a beach after a bite of these citrusy, nicely charred octopus tostones. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Conchitas Parmesanas Eat these the minute they land on the table—while the béschamel is still hot and oozy and the parmesan is melted. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino" - Mariana Trabanino

As a Peruvian myself, I can confidently say the food at Gran Inka is absolutely amazing. The flavors truly taste like home, and it was the very first place I went to eat after landing from LA. The food alone deserves five stars, it’s so authentic and SO yummy. I would hate for anyone to miss out on such great Peruvian food. That said, I do want to share some gentle and honest feedback regarding the service. Our server, Carla, unfortunately made us feel like we were more of a bother than welcomed guests. She didn’t check on us and came across as unprofessional and a bit rude, which took away from what was otherwise a wonderful dining experience. I fully understand that everyone has bad days, I used to be a server myself, so I truly empathize. However, this experience didn’t seem like a one-off, as my friend (a local) shared that she had a similar experience with the same server during a previous visit. I’m sharing this not to get anyone in trouble, that is the last thing I want, but sharing simply in hopes that it brings awareness. A little warmth and kindness go a long way, especially in a restaurant that has such incredible food and culture behind it. I genuinely love Peruvian cuisine and want this restaurant to continue thriving. I hope future visits reflect the same excellence in service as the food itself, because this place deserves to shine.

I was spending a few days in MIA staying at a friend's in the area. The place is quite convenient and easy to get to. The setting is really nice and the service was really good. I had the "Lomo Salteado". At first I thought the portion was a bit small but it was a good size and it tasted really good. My suggestion is to sit inside. The outdoors is too warm during lunch. Maybe good for dinner

Food was great! Atmosphere is nice too. Food took a while to come despite having many open tables. I did not like that they charge a full entree price ($32) for my kid who asked for small shrimp and rice plate instead of kids menu.

Delicious Peruvian food in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. We had the lomo Saltado and salmon mancora. It was the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life!! (From my 7 year old). There is a small kids menu and lemonade. Pisco sour was excellent.

I ordered the Sautéed Tenderloin (Lomo Saltado) and what arrived was more of a concept than an entrée. First, the portion size: for nearly $17, I expected an actual meal, not a decorative sampling spoon. I’ve had larger portions from airline food. Second, the steak. I ordered it rare. What I received was well done—not “oops, medium,” but fully committed, no-pink-left, congratulations-on-your-leather degree well done. If rare is on the menu, someone in the kitchen should know what that means. The fries were advertised as crunchy. They arrived wet, limp, and sad, like they had been steamed in regret. Zero crunch. Absolute sog. And finally, the description proudly mentions Peruvian yellow peppers. There were none. Not one. Not a sliver. Not a whisper of yellow pepper energy. At that point, it’s just false advertising. Overall, this dish managed to be disappointing in multiple categories simultaneously: portion, doneness, texture, and accuracy. I will not be ordering this again, unless I’m conducting a study on unmet expectations.

Repeat customer, Kirk of Dallas, Texas, says, “Mhmmm there’s just something about these flavors. I just had to come back!” We had multiple different types of ceviche, salmon with potato and Peruvian spices, and El Classico, arroz con pollo. Each dish was exquisitely tasty and cooked to perfection by the lovely staff. For drinks, we had the Chicano, spicy margarita, and Havana mojito, which were delicious as well. If you’re in the area, this is an outstanding choice. Avery and Kirk

Better than the average strip mall restaurant. The ceviche classico was very fresh and flavorful with a good amount of fish. The two corvina entrees - one with peppers and onions and one more like a seafood stew were also very good. Eating outside despite it being a parking lot was pleasant.

This place is the real deal if you’re looking for excellent Peruvian. This goes for the appetizers, main dishes, and their drink menu. Michel was our server and he was super friendly, made great recommendations and luckily for us he took over the bar for a few minutes and made us pisco sours, which were the best we have had in any restaurant in Florida. We ordered the ceviche trio which features some of the best tasting ceviche on the menu. My girlfriend and I had a great experience and highly recommend this restaurant for quality food and delicious drinks. As a bonus, if you want the best experience ask for Michel to be your server, he’s the best!
