El Granjero Cantina

I love this place! Heaters were provided, so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the view. Nachos were superb with beef n guac added. Cheeseburger n fries excellent. Both dishes could have been shared. Large portion sizes. Only con was the strawberry margarita. But I asked for a salted rim glass n lime, poured it in, and all was well again. Tasted the liquor n no so much the strawberry flavor. They are pre-made, FYI.

I liked the ambience of this restaurant when I decided to go in. We got the fish tacos, tomatilla chicken tacos and loaded chicken nachos. Of all we liked the nachos the most. Tacos were okay. The chicken was better than the fish. The chips(that were served with salsa) seemed stale to all of us at the table and when we told the server about it, he never got back with a response nor were they replaced. The place was pretty crowded so maybe that's why the service wasn't the best either. We also felt that it was very overpriced for the quality of food.

We had the best fish tacos ever at El Granjero – at first, they felt small, but the taste was extraordinary, and they did satiate my appetite for several hours. This is a great spot to stop for a short lunch in the grove, and you can sit and watch people after a bit of shopping. The service was fast, and it was easy to get in and out of. The place is well kept, clean and the bar was really simple but well designed.

Loved it here. I always wanted to try this place. I think it's Mexican food for the less daring if you will. The food is more toward the fusion side in my opinion but I thought it was great. If you have young kids that you are introducing to Mexican food I think this is a great sport for you because the food is much less spicier than traditional Mexican restaurants. We tried the birria tacos, asada nachos, and breakfast burritos. All very tasty! The live music was a bit loud and the manager asked the violin player tone it down a notch bc my boy was freaking out a bit. What great service! I think this place deserves more than a 4 score!!

I had the cheese enchiladas and some “queso fundido”. The “queso fundido” was not queso fundido. It was nacho cheese like goop. It’s runny and just awful. The enchiladas were good. They were in a green sauce which isn’t spicy. The rice is weird but good and the beans were flavorless. The servers were really nice but came around to help us with the check after a long time. They appear to be understaffed. I’m never returning. Parking in the Grove parking structure or Farmer’s Market lot.

Skinny martini is awesome. Their salsa has a smoky taste, that is not like any other salsa that I have tasted. Love it. Such a cool and funky vibe in the decor. A refreshing change for the farmers market. Plus they serve a fried avocado!

This place caters to crowds visiting the Grove. It’s definitely a different kinda Mexican food, it kinda reminds me exactly of Tocaya. If you’re from out of town this might be a good stop if you’re at the mall but personally we found it to be very expensive, and kinda bland, almost $19 for chicken bowl (photo) that is a dark meat mix. We found the nachos to be good, the ambiance is very chic and cute.

Great food and helpful staff, menu has seasonal additions and their classics (love the dorados!). Christmas tamales were delicious and they always have great frozen cocktails! Highly recommend for a fun dinner or lunch.

El Granjero Cantina is a great Mexican spot within Fairfax. Came here with a big group of my cousins when visiting LA and we were so happy to stumble upon a spot that could accomodate a big group like us. We sat outside on the covered patio and our server was quick and prompt. A few of us got the drinks and were not disappointed by the selection. They have the self-proclaimed "best margaritas in town" according to their menu and we thought they were pretty good. They had a lot of different flavors for their drinks and they even looked really pretty. For their food, we got carne asada fries to share & I got the tacos. Everything was good and we all enjoyed our food. The decor inside and out was very bright, colorful, and inviting. Overall, a good spot to grab some Mexican food in the Farmer's Market plaza.

food was mediocre. very colorful and beautiful presentation. my order came to me wrong, after the sever double-checked while taking the order., there was no urgency, desire... or "need" to correct on their end. guacamole was decent. With so many other options at the grove or farmers market I would not return.

We loved the old school aesthetic of this restaurant! We shared a quesadilla with a large side of freshly made guacamole and warm chips! The guacamole and chips were delicious! The quesadilla was decently good! We also ordered a Diet Coke and I was so happy when I saw the vintage small bottle they brought out! So fun! It was definitely an overall good experience! Good food, great atmosphere and those special vintage touches that make it homey!

This place is very expensive and the food isn't very good not to mention the portions are small. The ambiance is just okay and the service is mediocre. Needless to say I will not be going back.

This place was so good! We had a couple of their margaritas to start with their delicious house made guacamole. We ordered the fish tacos (made with red fish) and the birria tacos....wow! Just so good! I highly recommend this place!

Happy hour is our favorite time to dine for a fun cocktail (or cocktails) and always an order of the crispy avocado tacos alongside an order of the baby fiesta nachos. Such a fun vibe and its dog friendly (even with a doggy menu too!).

Located within the Original Farmers Market in Los Angeles. First and foremost there are plenty of parking spaces (already a plus). There's a fee, however if you eat at one of the restaurants, you can get it validated and get a discounted price. El Granjero Cantina is a Mexican Restaurant that serves a lot my popular items like, homemade tortilla chips, tacos, carne Asada, chicken bowls, etc. I ordered the steak birria, it was delicious! The drinks were tasty and strong! I love the atmosphere, it was colorful, lively, and fun! The servers were very nice, friendly and smiling. I love that. And service was fast. They had indoor and outdoor dining. They are busy! But there was no wait during our visit. The price was ok. Not too pricey

Overpriced kid-size meals with bad service. If that's your thing then check them out. First time (and last) trying this place and had such high hopes for it. We went during happy hour and it was pretty empty and yet the server was not in the best of moods. For $23 you get two small tacos with 1/4 cups each of overcooked rice and some strange refried beans - both in the same cup. For $23 that's ridiculous. Just go next door to Marmalade and for the same price you'll have some delicious pasta dish.

I was having trouble picking a spot in the Grove and farmers market, so I decided to go with what I thought was a safe option. The food was great, I got the steak burrito bowl, and it was super fresh. Lettuce, steak, guacamole, rice, and some corn salsa didn't make me feel heavy even though the portion was huge! I ended up getting it to go so I could find a spot in the farmers market for the vibes. But the seating in the restaurant was lovey and open, I should have just stayed there! It was super expensive and that's why it's not 5 stars. Only eat there if you are ready to over pay. For one person, $29 for just an entree is crazy. They did throw in chips and salsa, so I'll give them that. The staff were super friendly! The host greeted me well and answered my questions, and the man taking my order struck up a lovely conversation while I waited. He made sure I got everything I needed. It was great to lunch!

First time visitor to California and although I am not too sure how authentic this place is, as a lady from Florida, the fish tacos did not disappoint. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The chips are fresh and warm and the salsa uses a nice dark chile which is a nice change from a tomato base. I got the Cadillac Margarita and it's tasty but was pretty strong (no complaint here). Service was wonderful and it was compounded by a beautiful day.

I unfortunately did not enjoy the food here and it seemed over priced. The salsa was interesting (not my preference) and the guacamole tasted bland. The drinks were okay but nothing special. The tamale was bland. The green rice was not very good and I wish they would have just used regular Spanish rice. We had three different servers throughout our time and I had to ask if they were bringing our appetizer out and it unfortunately didn't come to our table until the rest of our food. Servers were friendly and we were seated quickly which was surprising for a Friday night at The Grove during the holidays. Ambiance was cute with everything being so colorful. They don't validate parking for the garage but if you walk to the Cheesecake Factory then they can validate it for you.

Stopped here while at the Grove. It is all open air but they have heating lamps. The service was good, food came out really quickly which was great. I ordered the steak bowl and my partner ordered the shrimp fajita which he really enjoyed. The steak bowl was good, just a lot of lime flavor. We also ordered the nachos as an appetizer which were cool. The mezcal Paloma was tasty is you like smoky.

I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating available. Outdoor seating does have heated lamps, so if you're having dinner on their patio, you'll still be warm. The caritas burrito was probably one of the best burritos I've ever had. The Fiesta nachos were so good and satisfying. The fish tacos were good, but not the best I've ever had. The service was excellent. All of the staffers were super super nice. They validate for farmers market, not the Grove. They have gender neutral bathrooms.

I want to start by saying the food here is not amazing... but it's also not bad, especially since options are limited at the Grove, hence the 5 stars. The service was really good! All staff were friendly and the food came out relatively quickly even though they were busy. Food is a bit pricey (but again, it's the grove), but some of them are large portions! If you have to eat at the grove, definitely not the worst you could do and I'd recommend it!

Such good food! If you're not sure what to eat and want something decent and easy, this is the place to go! They have a cute decorative patio and inside sheeting section. They're quick and friendly and delicious! They have vegan and non vegan items but all their sides are vegan friendly or labeled clearly if they aren't! I ate my food too fast to take pictures

Was not impressed at all by the food here. Came on a nice, cool saturday afternoon in January. We were greeted by the host and was seated promptly. Got the menus from our server and came back with complimentary chips, salsa, and glasses of water. Wanted to order the Pork Belly and Plantains but they were out so we ordered our main entrees. The food came out in a timely matter. So far the service has been stellar. Now for the negative part. My friend ordered Chicken Enchiladas and I ordered the Steak Burrito. The Chicken Enchilada($26.50), has Tomatillo Chicken, Sour Cream, Salsa Verde, and Cilantro. You get 3 small pieces. I tried it and there was not much chicken in it. Flavor was actually a bit lacking. The Steak Burrito(originally $32.95 but I went with the 1 pound option for just $5 more), the size was pretty big but after cutting into it there was not much steak inside there. It was mostly rice and beans. So disappointed. I would also like to add that the the kind of chips they give you are the thick kind, almost like it has a stale texture to it. The salsa was some kind of dark liquid that has a kick to it but that's about it. In closing, the only thing good mentioning here besides the service is the Pineapple Lime Cocktail($16). Otherwise, you are better off going over to Chipotle across the way. Paid a total of $87.91 plus tip. The food here is so not worth it but thumbs up to the drinks though. Most of the food at The Grove is not very good, but this place is wonderful. Our server, Jebediah, was so welcoming and full of energy. The food was really good, the only thing I didn't like was the corn just because they served it really cold! The restaurant is fun too, they have a guy playing the violin which brought a great vibe. If you are gluten free they are very accommodating, also!

What a cute place it eat out at the Grove! We were here for a movie night and decide to add dinner into the mix. If you go around the holiday time or on a weekend, I recommend you make a reservation. Parking in the garage is easy but I do not know if they validate. I do love the way this restaurant is set up. We got to sit outside, people watch and enjoy the Christmas lights. They had the heaters on full blast so I wasn't cold at all. I orders a spiked hot chocolate (YUM!) and the chicken enchiladas. These were recommended to me and what I liked was it didn't have that heavy after feeling. It was green sauce and light. Even the rice was different - green and herbs. Plenty for one person to fill up on. It's quite pricey, but for the next night out, I will be back!

Delicious. I went on Mother's Day weekend and sat outside. Shared the Birria tacos and a couple of drinks with my son. We added a taco to make it four and added guacamole. The tacos were devoured. Also, the salsa they give you with the chips - like a non spicy mole style - is so good. The service was excellent. Thanks for a great time.

Busy restaurant = good food. That has always been my motto. We stopped by this restaurant on a busy Friday night and had a good time. My friend had mentioned that she was looking for a holiday themed drink menu and El Granjero delivered. They had a five-drink Christmas themed menu with a variety of drinks to choose from. Service was pretty fast and attentive. The restaurant itself was very festive with piñata's hung all around and cute twinkle lights. Our meal came with chips and some red salsa that reminded us of mole or sauce you would put inside of tamales. I wasn't much of a fan so I requested some green salsa on the side instead. This place had good green salsa and burrito green salsa. We ordered the birria beef burrito (4/5) and the tomatillo chicken tacos (3/5). Portions could be better for the $22 taco plate (see my uploaded pic for reference). I'd probably pass on the tacos next time and try either the nachos or quesadilla.

Without going inside Farmer's Market, we saw this restaurant and immediately got seated. Our waiter was extremely friendly. We enjoyed our food and drinks. In the end, we took selfies with the hostess and our waiter. Good food, good atmosphere and great service!

A very nice, cozy inviting place with fast and friendly service. The food is really good, and the portions are generous. I got the carne burrito, which is a whopping 1 lb of meat! Don't forget to top off the meal with a side of churros.

I was out in the area. This restaurant is located on the original farmers market side of the grove. I liked the look and the vibe and wanted to try this place out. We had good service and food was just as good. I had the pork belly tacos which were super tasty. It was a bit expensive but considering the area it's as expected. I really liked the salsa that's on the side with chips. Nice enjoyable patio. Food was brought out in a timely manner. Overall, an enjoyable place to try out at least once. My only complaint is wee ordered a $16 to $18 margarita, and it was all ice. I did inform the waitress and she said I will let the bar know. Thats it! No response to this or can we remake it.

It was our first time there and even though I was a little skeptical about having dinner at El Granjero but at the end we were very happy that we decided to go there. The food was delicious, the staff incredibly welcoming and friendly. Utensils and glassware were clean.

We got seated quickly considering the time and being Rose Bowl weekend The food had decent flavor but nothing to write home about The salsa was more like a chipotle paste...not very appetizing The portions were small for the prices charged and I am not a fan of corn tortillas..they just don't taste cooked to me Finally food warmer lights would help keep the food to temp and perhaps enhance the flavors

Damn. This place is just not right for this spot. It's prime location. Foods ehh, frozen margs aren't good. Service is sooo slow. Went to the Bathroom came back to find my table gone. Lol. It was a quick #1 and in that time they cleared my table and held my goods behind the kiosk. Everyone's nice here but it's just not a place to play pretend Mexican restaurant. Like it's LA, people are visiting this location for an experience and as a local this is embarrassing.

With its festive décor and lively atmosphere El Granjero Cantina is a great spot to meet up with friends for Happy Hour or grab a drink and a bite to eat after shopping at The Grove. Don't let the frozen cocktails fool you. They have a nice kick. The frozen Mojito and Strawberry Margarita are both tasty and refreshing, especially during these hot summer days. They use fresh lime juice in their margaritas, and you can taste the quality. The Cadillac is great, and the Skinny doesn't skimp on flavor. Kudos to Chef Jenni Sklar for developing a vegetable forward meu. There are plenty of vegan and gluten free items including the herbed rice and black beans. The Soyrizo Dorado features a mixture of soyrizo & vegan cheese encased in a crispy outer shell. It's drizzled with chipotle aioli and avocado sauce. A Cheese Quesadilla is always a good Happy Hour choice and there's a vegan option too. The Crispy Fish Taco features a perfectly fried piece of beer battered rock cod topped with spicy slaw, avocado sauce, & pickled Fresno chiles. The corn tortillas are made in house using a combination of corn flour and masa. I could taste the difference. I prefer flour over corn, but these corn tortillas rocked! Don't miss out on the fresh chips, Salsa Negra, and their delicious guacamole. I also recommend the Caesar Salad. There is a hint of citrus in the dressing. It's excellent. El Granjero Cantina is located in the Original Farmer's Market. Parking is validated for an hour if you park in that lot and not the Grove. Happy Hour is Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. (The house Old Fashioned is made with a combination of Tequila & Mezcal.)

Came and enjoyed nachos and tacos off the happy hour menu and it all was delicious! The waiter was also great in tending to all our needs. I'll definitely be back!

Staff is amazing. So friendly, attentive and charismatic. Jeremy and Jebediah made our experience absolutely amazing. Salsa tastes like homemade molé?! Drinks were delish and happy hour has fantastic prices and a nice selection of mezcal to carnitas.

I came here for the Yelp elite event. The drinks were strong and the food was pretty good. Good service and generous hosts... unfortunately they were no match for the ravenous appetites of the invited "Yelp Elite". Unbeknownst to me, I had to dive in to grab a bite. Round one passed by me, round two passed by. The food instantly dissapearing before my eyes to satisfy the belly of these beasts. Now I'm sweating.. will I get a chance to eat? I strategically reposition myself on the other side of the free for all table in anticipation for round 3. With bravery and viction I go in and grab a chicken taco and fish taco. They were pretty good and as soon as I bite into the crispy tortilla I realize that my mustered up courage paid off. Thanks El Granjero Cantina. I promise to revisit your restaurant when I'm by the Grove.

I had some cousins visiting and we wanted tacos that catered to our various dietary preferences/restrictions. El Granjero Cantina was located close by, had lots of menu options, and decent reviews! They were able to seat us as soon as we got there and we received a menu as well as the house chips + salsa. The salsa was delicious, it was more of a roasted puree of vegetables vs. a pico. We ordered: - Crispy Fish Tacos - Crispy Avocado Tacos - Braised Beef Quesa/Birria Tacos - Chicken Tacos Some of these we opted to get the Enchilada meal to mix up taco choices. It is 2 tacos per plate (with or without the Enchilada meal), except for the Birria Tacos which came with 3. Every plate comes with a side of rice and beans except for the Birria Tacos. The fish tacos were decent, my only complaint is that they lacked flavor. A chipotle sauce or some sort of heat and cream was missing for me. The crispy avocado surprised me. I'm not a huge avocado fan and did not expect the avocado on this taco to come deep fried! It was delicious, and I would come back solely for this taco. The birria tacos were yummy, juicy, flavorful, and crunchy. The cheese paired well with the beef and the broth. Overall: a bit expensive for just 2 tacos but its in The Grove, Americanized but menu that is accommodating, and skip the canned mocktails.

A must visit at the Grove! Enjoyed a fiesta fish bowl there yesterday and the staff really went above and beyond with customer service despite it being a winding down rush. The food was DELICIOUS and the drinks strong, which made for an amazing moviegoing experience afterwards too. Please come by here when you want to have a drink, or put your feet up and enjoy extremely fresh food (like literally had to wait for it to cool off fresh) and have the best service in the area!

I'm bummed to say this was a big miss in my opinion. I was so excited to try this restaurant and after seeing the vibes and how aesthetically pleasing the whole place looked I couldn't wait to dive in. There was about a 10 minute wait which didn't bother us at all. The host was very friendly and engaging with us and there's a plethora of chairs to sit in right outside to people watch while you wait for a table. Upon reading the menu items, I was torn in what to order as my go-to Mexican items are always between enchiladas and burritos. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer, and I ultimately decided to go with the enchiladas. Let's first discuss these nachos. There was hardly any cheese on them, only a top layer, once you eat the top layer of chips it became a plate of dry chips with a few toppings. Bummer to start the meal like that. Our entree's came next. The presentation was beautiful on all of them. Flavor, however, seriously lacking. The enchiladas were just not good. I didn't even finish them. No flavor, dry chicken, way too much feta, and I was under the impression I was getting red sauce not green. The only thing I ate was the rice and beans, and I didn't really understand why the Mexican rice was green. I nibbled at my friend's chicken quesadilla. Not a bad entree, but loaaaaaaded with cheese, which was surprising given the nacho situation. So much cheese, in fact, that my friend actually had an upset stomach afterwards. Not that his dietary allergies are the restaurant's fault, but, what's with the extreme cheese proportions? Burrito bowl was plain, nothing good nothing bad. Our server was great in the beginning then it was nearly impossible to track him down for refills, the check, etc. I'm so so disappointed as I really wanted to love this spot. My friends and I unfortunately will not be returning.

I've been here twice now and the food is very good. Great flavors and very tasty My only issue would be with the carnitas burrito I recently ordered. It was more like a rice burrito with some carnitas. Had that not been the case the review would be closer to five stars.

I should have listened to the reviews but I wanted to make my own decision. The food was decent for the Grove, but if you want real Mexican go else where. A few workers suggested the frozen margaritas, they are from a machine and not made fresh so we passed. I had chicken tacos with side of rice and beans.The service was all over the place, we asked for mezcal margaritas and they weren't, other tables received chips and salsa, we had to ask. Ambience was fine, but you're at the Grove. However, host, and servers were nice so no fault to them. If I find myself at The Grove wanting a margarita next time, I'll head over to Alma Instead.

We ultimately picked this restaurant, because it had AC. The hostess was very nice, and pleasant. Our server, was quick to bring out waters. That was nice, because it was hot AF. The food was ok, definitely on the pricier side for what it was. I was slightly put off, when the waiters slammed down the water glass and plates though.

This place is inside the Grove, on the Fairfax side. They have outdoor and indoor seating and their happy hour is a must- go. The avocado tacos are one of the vegan items they have and they are TO DIE FOR. I could've had 6 of those tacos. The margaritas are good as well. I probably wouldn't come outside of happy hour because the tacos are $4.50 each during happy hour and if you're Latina like myself, you know that's pretty steep for a taco made of avocado. EVEN if it was amazing. Nonetheless, it was a great experience, the ambience was great, the staff was very helpful and kind, and parking is free with validation. I would return again - during happy hour of course.

Great place to stop for a quick lunch on Black Friday or any day for that matter. Our server was super friendly and food was speedy. We all had the beef taco dish and it was delicious. No time for drinks as we were all working but the drinks looked good on other tables.

This was my most underwhelming meal I had in my week in LA. I am certain that there are way better options for Mexican in LA. Price was way too high. I know that the real estate is through the roof so I understand. Margarita was decent but literally about 4x what it should cost for what they serve. The atmosphere was fantastic because it's open air and The Grove is just the best. Service was not great because literally one guy worked the entire restaurant. He was trying his best. Go somewhere else.

The food is really enjoyable, in my opinion, and actually well seasoned, which is more than I can say for most LA restaurants. Also, the drinks were fantastic. I'm a sucker for the ambience, too. The service was overall very good, with the exception being the waiter pre-charged the tip, then showed me a total without a tip so I'd further tip on top of what he'd already pre-charged, which is massively sleazy. I recommend eating here AND insisting on an itemized check before paying.

I've been here a couple times and have enjoyed what I've had so far. My only concern is the cost point. I feel it's a bit high compared to other sit-down Mexican restaurants. Sure, it's "elevated" Mexican fare, but not enough to justify the higher prices. I feel it is priced for tourists. So, with my only complaint out of the way, the food is good and the service is friendly, from the host to the waiter. The decor is festive. This visit, the avocado bites and strawberry margarita were recommended. I tried the bites and they indeed were so delicious. Fried avocado! It is a whole avocado, so four slices. I also had the sangria. We also shared the chicken quesadilla, which was three big triangles, filled thick, served with sour cream and salad. Very shareable, so between the two, we were filled just enough. I was glad I didn't get more, but I do want to try their chilaquiles. When I feel like spending $24 on a plate!

The host knows what she's doing we were berry iffy about going but she pulled us in and don't regret it the vibe and weather was perfect today and the other or seating is great . They food was so delicious and loved how flavorful

Shopping at the Grove and stopped here to have lunch. Service was fast! Environment clean and fun! Great for social media posting! The food was good! They hyped up the fried avocado bites...not worth it!

I don't often visit The Grove, but I am more than happy to just so I can eat here. El Granjero Cantina has excellent options ranging from traditional Mexican dishes (like tacos and quesadillas) to creative dishes like crispy pork belly and their Caesar salad. Yes, Caesar salad. They're whole leaves of romaine lettuce topped with sunflower seeds, shredded cheese, and shaved cured egg yolk. It was absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed their crispy tortilla chips and homemade fresh tortillas with their salsa and guacamole. Their quesadilla was a must - but make sure to add the braised beef! I've never had lobster tacos before, so I ordered those. They were lightly battered and served with a side of green rice and black beans. Their seared fish bowl had a hunk of crisp fish on a bed of mixed greens and green rice. The aji verde was a nice touch. They have great options for cocktails, but I went with their frozen drinks to help cool me down. They're the perfect summer drinks! The frozen mojito and frozen strawberry margarita totally hit the spot. They have two options for dessert and I opted to try the plantains. They were caramelized and tossed in condensed milk and jam. I also visited them on a Tuesday when they were hosting their Loteria night. It's a fun game - "Mexican bingo" - if you've never played before. They also have taco specials!
