Colorful patio, upbeat vibes, nachos, tacos, vegan options

"For Cinco de Mayo, El Granjero Cantina will feature mariachis." - Mona Holmes
"El Granjero Cantina is one of the newest additions to the Original Farmers Market, a sit-down restaurant with a colorful patio and upbeat vibes that opened in 2021. It’s a place where folks can grab a margarita with loaded nachos, carnitas tacos, and vegan soyrizo dorados plates — all while doing some good people-watching." - Cathy Chaplin
"A recent restaurant arrival at the Original Farmers Market on Fairfax that represents one of the market’s newest openings as the site continues to add fresh dining options." - Farley Elliott
"A new casual Mexican cantina opened June 29 in the former Ulysses Village space (which closed in 2018 after 16 years), presenting a colorful, laid-back dining room designed by Amy Knoll Fraser. The kitchen is a collaboration of notable local talent — chef Jenni Sklar (whose résumé includes Lucques, Son of a Gun and the Whoa Nellie Deli), owner/operator John Moshay (of Fritzi Coop), partner Neal Fraser, and general manager Grace Whaley (formerly of Redbird and Pizzeria Mozza) — and the food leans on classic American‑Mexican cantina fare: nachos, fried tacos, quesadillas and a variety of antojitos, plus salads, protein bowls over herbed rice and a kids menu. The cocktail program, consulted on by Tobin Shea of Redbird, features agave‑based old fashioneds, frozen strawberry margaritas, sangria and other market‑friendly drinks. For now it’s open daily 11:30 a.m.–8 p.m. (extended to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays), takes reservations via Resy, and is located at 6333 West Third Street." - Farley Elliott
"I'm reporting that Chef Neal Fraser is partnering with his Fritzi team to open a new standalone restaurant at the Original Farmers Market called El Granjero Cantina; the entirely new concept will operate under the Fritzi banner (as opposed to Redbird) and will feature cooking from Fritzi executive chef Javier Escobedo, offering casual Mexican fare and alcohol in the former Ulysses Village space (which closed in 2018 after 16 years), and the restaurant is eyeballing a summer 2020 debut." - Farley Elliott
