El Grillo Marinero

Loved, loved, loved this place! Everything about El Grillo Marinero was excellent. The owners were wonderful, the service was great and the restaurant was spotless. The food was awesome..fresh, flavorful and clearly made with care. It has a great vibe and feels like a truly local, non-touristy spot, which made the experience even better. (It is truly local!) We will absolutely be back and would 100% recommend this place to friends and family visiting the area.

This restaurant has fresh big red snapper. We tried it. Very delicious. Just too big for 3 of us. If there's smaller size that would be great.

Fresh and delicious seafood! The garlic and butter shrimp is fabulous. No frills, reasonably priced, friendly staff, a must when in town.

Another year and multiple visits again. Amazing seafood. The Mahi Mahi is amazing, and they had tuna on one of our visits and it was amazing as well. Such a great environment and such a great team that runs it. Never had a bad meal here. Highly recommended. Flavourful food and wonderful environment.

Grillo Marinero is by far my favorite restaurant in Huatulco. The Mahi Mahi is absolutely unbelievable and cooked to perfection. The portions are huge and it feels like a real Mexican experience. The family that runs it are all so wonderful. 3rd year in a row going here and can’t wait to go back. Thank you Gabriel for the freshest, tastiest fish I’ve ever had!

We came because the fried fish was highly recommended, but unfortunately, by the time we arrived (7pm) they were sold out of all their smaller fish and only had large fish for MX$1200. We ended up getting the garlic and butter shrimp which we really enjoyed.

We have been eating around town for twelve days and this was definitely one of the better restaurants, they know how to cook their seafood. I had the fish of the day (Amberjack), portion was huge and it was one of the tastiest meals of grilled fish I have ever eaten. Wife had garlic butter shrimp and she was also highly impressed. It was a Monday we were there early and when we left it was an hour wait so if you are dining after 6 maybe make a reservation.

Food was delicious. We ordered the fried red snapper, grilled octopus and guacamole. Good service. Gave it 4 stars because it's CASH ONLY but this isn't mentioned anywhere. The bill was almost $100 and they wouldn't take our card so we used the only cash we had which was inconvenient. Surprising that this establishment only takes cash.

Looking for local, fresh seafood? This is the place to go! The family that runs El Grillo Marinero has their own fishing boat and goes out daily to supply the restaurant with the highest quality seafood that La Crucecita has to offer. Try the shrimp and mahi mahi - you won't regret it! The only downside is they don't offer cocktails or wine - only beer and mezcal. Come prepared - they are cash only!

The chipotle spiced fish was sooo amazing! We had a fillet of dorado, coated in the chipotle spice blend, not overly spicy but jam packed with flavour. We also had the shrimp in the same sauce but the fish was the clear winner. Would highly recommend this dish to anyone in town. They also have delicious mezcal for a bargain price.

Definitely a place to be visited at Huatulco! Fantastic fresh seafood, nice atmosphere, excellent service! I can eat there every day. We had a whole fried red snapper, mixed shrimp/ octopus/ snail plate, shrimps Mexican style, and of course their outstanding guacamole. Everyone had fun and enjoyed the food. 5 stars all the way!

Food was excellent- so fresh! The ceviche was well prepared and our entire table loved it! We unfortunately did not have a big enough crowd or appetite for the large grilled fish (size or the fish would be able to feed six human beings)! We definitely want to come back again. Service was awesome too!

This is the best seafood restaurant in Huatulco, we kept going back because the food is fresh,the sons go fishing in the morning everyday except Tuesdays.. The staff is really nice and bathrooms are very clean.

So my dad comes here all the time and he loves it, but in my case, I have mix feelings about this place, so this is what happened I thought they accepted credit cards, so I ordered food and a drink and whenever I finish the waiter told me no to worry and that I could come another time and paid him, which I think he was so sweet and kind also I was in shocked whenever he said that because I have never heard about a restaurant that you can pay them another time, he insisted on that really kindly, later, so I am extremely thankful for what he did, obviously I paid him the next morning and gave him a good tip, I think his name is Luis, so if is your waiter, please take care of him. Now the food .. pros, indeed is fresh Cons, it didn't have any flavor

I will travel every month from Dallas to Hutualco to eat this ceviche. Everything caught day of and mixed with line and salt. That's all you need folks.

Was passing through and looking for a delicious, traditional seafood place. This place had promising reviews so we decided to give it a shot. We were intrigued by the tuna steak everyone talks about, but unfortunately it's not in season. We ended up getting butter and garlic shrimp, one of their octopus specialty dish and some guacamole(not on the menu, but can still be order) I personally don't like seafood that much due to the "fishy" taste. The shrimps tasted fishy, I could taste the butter and little of the garlic. My friend said they tasted like lobster (‍) The dishes come with rice that I thought was over cooked. My friend ordered the octopus that was mixed with octopus ink, but sadly the dish was flat. No taste whatsoever. I'm no expert on octopus (since it makes me think of chewing on rubber) but that dish had zero flavor. The guacamole was flat too, but they brought us some salsa and lime and I fixed it to my taste. Overall the reason why I'm given them 3 stars it's because of the service; our waiter was awesome. He would make his rounds and stop and chat with us, he would answered our questions, never did he made us feel rushed. I mean if these are the flavors you're looking for this is definitely your spot! ***Also, it's cash only***

This is honestly one of the only reasons we visit Huatulco! The freshness of the fish is like no other we've had. The service and ambience is great too! Such a gem!

Went with my significant other last night . It's a big open dining room with wooden chairs and bright white LED lights that unfortunately strobe as the fan blades turn under them. Really need to do something here! We got the impression that this is the spot where all the tourist go to experience local seafood. However there weren't any locals as customers last night Now the good news: the recommended fresh Mahi Mahi was grilled perfection! My wife's shrimp was very good. The small avocado salad each entree is served with was fresh and delicious too. The rice in tomato sauce was watery and we did not finish. Note: Yelp indicated they take credit cards - on 3/1/18 they did not - cash only. They also don't have any desserts on the menu

Honestly the food was "okay"; but more importantly I just witnessed some very poor behavior by the owners. I am all about supporting local businesses', however this establishment was straight up ugly to a tour group of very nice people, which was brought here by a local fisherman. I was proud of the tour guide for having the whole group leave after one of the 12 people (who did not eat seafood) left to grab something next door and then was not allowed to bring in outside food. I understand that this would be typical practice in the US/Canada, however we are not in the US/Canada and he was "stuck" being the only one. It ended up being a yelling fight where the restaurant refused to budge. In general, bad behavior shouldn't pay off.

I asked the restaurant worker if we could put two tables together so my family of nine could sit together. There were numerous tables empty and available and the waiter said he would put them together for my family. We then sat at two different tables and waited for the waiter to put our tables together. While we waited on two separate tables, the waiter started to take one of the table's order. I politely told him that we wanted the tables together since we were all there together and that we'd order once we were all sat together. He got upset. Instead of putting both tables together, he took other customers' orders and ignored me and my family. We waited 10 minutes and wondered when he'd put the two tables together. After waiting more than 10 minutes, we decided to leave. The entire time we waited, he completely ignored us. Nobody seemed to care. I spoke to the manager and told him what happened, but he said he did not know what had happened so he didn't do anything. We left frustrated and hungry. We asked around town and the locals told us to go to "el camarón borracho. " at the end, El Camarón Borracho" was the perfect decision.

Excellent fish restaurant - we ate there every day we stayed in Huatulco, we just could not help coming back for more of this amazingly fresh and tasty seafood and fish! The Staff was very kind and Considerate - we felt a bit like locals. We will come back one day! Don't miss this place when in Huatulco.

Fresh seafood like you would t believe. Friendly people. Only non-issue. No outside food allowed including kids food. My son wasnt allowed to eat fries from another place. He ate baby food from our personal bag instead.

El Grillo Marinero served us a standout meal today. It started with chips and salsa. The chips were small tortilla shells, fried til they were crispy and placed, still whole, into a basket. They arrived with salt, lime, and a phenomenal salsa with just the right amount of bite. The waiter strongly advised us to order the catch of the day, so that's what we did. My boyfriend's tuna medallions were cooked to perfection and the mahi mahi melted in my mouth. I honestly don't think I've ever had better fish in my life. If you find yourself in La Crucecita at lunchtime, you'd better go to El Grillo Marinero.

Had an excellent sea bass. It was cooked whole with the garlic and herbs. Just what we were looking for. Shared fish and added the homemade guacamole. Delicious!

The best place to get your marisco fix. Place has some of the freshest seafood I've ever had. The service is also great which is a great plus! Definitely a must have while visiting beautiful Huatulco

The Place is wonderful for seafood dishes . Try the butter garlic sauce on the fish . It's delicious . Very friendly staff , our sever Francisco is a wonderful waiter made us fell at home

Very good seafood.... not Baja style ( no tacos here ) all fresh day catch is on the menu. Simple but delicious!!! The local cods oven roasted is so good. The pineapple shrimp roast is a favorite. Take a taxi here... easy walk to plaza, to walk off food.

Beautiful yummy red snapper fish. It came with rice & beans, thin tostadas, picó de gallo and salsa. Small place, cash only. You have to eat here before leaving Huatulco.

This is a definite must visit. This is a family own restaurant for the past 30yrs that true takes pride in what they serve their customers. They have the absolute best and freshest seafood of all the surrounding areas. This is a local hot spot that is only open from 1pm-8pm. We were visiting Huatulco for 1week and ate here 3 different time due to how great the food tasted and the great atmosphere. Waiters speak English and Spanish. A must try is the pulpo, octopus, with butter and garlic. It just melts in your mouth with an absolute great taste. Plus whatever is the catch of the day are always great. Love the homemade tostadas with lime and salsa. Lastly, their prices are so reasonable it is hard not to eat here almost every day.

Great seafood. We got there early to avoid crowds. I would recommend getting the fried fish and the octopus (ajo mantequilla), the shrimp cocktail is also very good.

Amazing seafood restaurant run by an amazing family. They catch their own fish so you know it's fresh. The restaurant has been open for many years and the quality has never changed, great seafood and good prices.

Excellent food, great value! I had the highly recommended garlic butter snapper. It was prepared so perfectly I had no trouble deboning it (I'm usually a little concerned about that). It is excellent. Husband had a huge plate of shrimp prepared Mexican style - also superb. Plus two micheladas, less than 400 pesos ($20 USD). Menus and service in English for us tourists. Great atmosphere. Loved it!

We first dined here 11 years ago. The food didn't improve, because it's already excellent! What's new for us are the new tables and chairs and a brand new thatch roof. It's all outside, but the several ceiling fans create a breeze. Get the octopus, several different choices are available. It's great! They had several specials, but we stuck to the octopus and shrimp. And like many places in Crucecieta, very affordable. We will be back!

Probably the freshest seafood we tasted so far in Huatulco. I recommend the red snapper with garlic butter. Or the octopus snail soup. We will definitely be visiting again!

Seafood was fresh, beer was cold and the service was excellent! A must when your in Huatulco if you like seafood.

Great service and food. I ordered the Snapper with Garlic and Butter and my Mom got the Garlic Butter Shrimp. Both were great. The Snapper is a bit expensive but extremely fresh.

Basically its super simple, perfectly cooked fresh seafood. Generous portions. Best shrimp ever.

Loved the food!! We are only here for 3 days but we will be going back before we leave. The octopus is AMAZING as well as the tuna! Definitely recommend!

The peeled garlic butter prawns were succulent , and the Mahi Mahi delicious. The price were also good.

Best seafood in Huatulco. Order the garlic/butter red snapper if they have it and also the sopas de mariscos!! Our waiter was very nice and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

Locally owned restaurant by a fisherman's family. It was such a good price-value spot that we went everyday we were in Huatulco. We also ate at the resort we were staying but the flavors didn't really compare to El Grillo Marinero! We had the red snapper (fish comes whole) and the shrimp "a la Mexicana" and the mixed seafood "ajo-mantequilla" which is butter-garlic flavored. One thing that I've noticed is that in Mexico anything that is finely chopped and seasoned (think taco fillings) is always really good. For this reason, I enjoyed the mixed shrimp and seafood both with the "a la Mexicana" flavor and the butter-garlic flavor more than I enjoyed the red snapper (even though that was excellent as well). Their micheladas and cheladas drinks were the best accompaniment with the food! It's no surprise why every time we asked a local to recommend a spot to eat, they would all point undoubtedly to the one and only Grillo Marinero. Provecho !

Amazing food! We prefer the fish over the shrimp. Got the garlic and butter red snapper, it was incredible. Really relaxed place, I suggest visiting after the sun is down to avoid heat.

Get the red snapper in butter garlic. Seriously the best fish meal I have ever had and I grew up next to the ocean.
