El Horno de Pane

This coffee and bakery have good coffee and great pastries. They also have a variety of breads, baked goods and sandwiches. We've been here five or six times and it's always busy. You may have to wait a little bit in line, but it is well worth it. We've had about four or five of their pastries and they've always good and fresh. If you get there after 12:30pm you may miss out on most of their pastries. The also have a variety of teas and breakfast sandwiches and other items. We love this place.

I like this place for their variety, their consistency, and some of their seasonal flavors are definite must-try! I’ve been their customer since 2022 and their pastries and breads are tasty, but don’t expect them to be warmed as I have not had the experience of receiving their products like that. Besides from that, everything checks out: and their pistachio croissant as well as their passion fruit-filled croissant squares are amazing! Their coffee and juices are okay, but I wouldn’t make a fuss about them.

El Horno de Pane is absolutely worth the hype! I’d always heard amazing things about this place and also about the huge lines so I was ready to wait. Luckily, the Monday morning I visited, the line was short and totally manageable. This was my last stop before heading to the airport, and I couldn’t have picked a better way to end my trip to Puerto Rico. I had a delicious vanilla almond latte, sampled a variety of pastries, and of course, tried the famous almond croissant everyone said was a must it lived up to every bit of the praise. I also ordered their Reuben sandwich, and wow… hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly balanced flavors, fresh ingredients, and beautifully made. Overall, El Horno de Pane is a diamond in Puerto Rico perfect for breakfast or brunch, with incredible food, great coffee, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back on my next trip!

Another great experience here at El Horno I just wanted to share some pics and videos. Well lit inside, super clean floors a great aroma of a bakery lots of people and plenty of seating available noticed large takeout orders and the staff continuously moving. They were kind professional, and helped suggest certain goods that I inquired. What a wonderful coffee bean for my Americano and just another wonderful experience. I noticed no bathrooms available however there is a market just a few storefronts over with public restrooms.

Horno de Pane in San Juan, Puerto Rico is an absolute gem! If you're looking for a genuine European bakery experience, this is your spot. Their almond croissant is a dream – flaky, buttery, and with a rich, perfectly sweet almond filling that's just divine. It's easily one of the best I've had outside of France. The baguette of "Masa Madre" boasts that perfect chewy interior and a delightfully crisp crust, a testament to true sourdough artistry. Their sourdough white bread is another winner, with a beautiful tang and a wonderfully airy crumb, ideal for sandwiches or just enjoying with some good butter. And don't even get me started on the coconut croissant – a unique and delicious twist on a classic, with a subtle sweetness and lovely coconut flavor. Beyond the incredible bread, the employees are incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly, making every visit a pleasure. Horno de Pane truly delivers authentic, high-quality European style bread right here in San Juan. You won't be disappointed!

This place is amazing. Things will sell out so get there early. Extremely hard to park. We ordered the following: 1Cruffin (Dulce de leche): 10/10 phenomenal must try 2Mini pistachio croissant: 9/10 very good 3Danish del país: 4/10 not too good for us. 4Pumpkin and cream cheese muffin: 9/10 amazing taste and super moist 5Salted caramel croissant pudding: 7/10

Perfectly crispy, fresh and delicious croissants. Their crema de farina is very creamy and comforting + with shredded coconut. Good coffee too ☕️ . I recommend coming in early and on a week day since it does get busy. Staff is always friendly too.

Local favorite bakery, has a Cuban feel to it and the locals line up for days to get their hands on this stuff! You line up outside, they take your order outside, and you wait for your pasteries, yep you guessed it, outside! Nobody comes inside with the chefs anymore since COVID. I like to think this is what keeps the quality top notch! I got a box full of bear claws, thingamajigs, doohickies and what nots. All came out warm and delicious! You really can't go wrong with anything ordered here. Most were in line just to get their hands on some bread! It's fantastic, go!

Their pastries were sooo delicious. I discovered them from the receptionist at a nearby auto body shop. I told the woman I was visiting San Juan and she highly recommended that I go here. I went several days in a row and if I would have known earlier, I would have gone everyday during my 2 week vacation!! I love the chocolate/banana muffins and blue berry muffins. My all times favorite was their almond croissant!! Mmmmm soap moist unlike many almond croissants lately that are hard and crispy! Oh noooo!! I had ordered several times a capaccino that was perfect. I can stress how perfect they made my cappuccino. it's worth standing in line for their pastries and coffee!

These are the best croissants, all fresh baked breads, sandwiches and coffee. The owner is an attorney that studied bread baking in France. The best you will find in Puerto Rico!

This is by far my favorite bakery, ever. Including the continental US. I would buy a t shirt if they sold them. My office is around the corner- mostly of traveling consultants. When a newcomer would walk in with a Starbucks cup, people would actually laugh and ask why they had forsaken the delicious coffee on the island... namely- from El Horno! The pastries are heavenly, avoid if you're on a diet because they will keep you up at night with their deliciousness. My favorite is the savory monkey bread.... OMG. Make sure you go early in the day before they sell out! Their breakfast and lunch options are also great (and have the fresh bread, of course). I also feel that El Horno stands out amongst its peers - fast, excellent service, always fresh, and takes Apple Pay.

The French toast is succulent every pastry was delicious! The almond croissant was buttery and flaky I wish there was one near my home

Wow ! Este lugar es riquísimo. Todo los panes son riquísimos y su café también. Es bien pequeño el lugar por lo que ordenas y pides para llevar.

I really like El Horno de Pane, but today it was a disappointment because I needed to order and pick up early and via their website their earliest pick up time is 9:00AM. I checked and they open at 7:00AM, so I decided to call. I called 4-5 times and no one answered the call and by the time they finally answered it was close to 8AM and it was already too late for me. There was no way to leave a message or be put in a queue to order over the phone. Very disappointed.

Despite being in a strip mall, it was a real nice spot with elegant, simple decor. I chose a Nutella pastry, and was not disappointed. The pastry was soft and flavorful, and the Nutella was, well Nutella. But it was a great pairing, and well put together.

Omg. Who knew this place was her in PR hiding in plain site. The scones are amazing. The bread is so fresh and the pastries are mouthwatering. Order ahead and save yourself the line!! Worth the drive and parking craziness.

Almond croissants and pain au chicolat, better than Paris. Cranberry bread and sourdough bread to die for. Insuperable baguette. I always want miore and the blt it's out if this world.

Can't remember what time of the day we stopped by, but it was definitely later in the afternoon. Their selection was quite scant at the time. Luckily, upon ordering they were bringing out a fresh batch of almond croissants which were amazingg! Must order especially if they're fresh.

Coffee is delicious, cruffins and tacchino sandwich too. A++++ Highly reccomended. There are other choices nearby but this one won't dissapoint.

EXCELLENT FOOD.! Baked goods are to die for. 2 stars for HORRIBLE SERVICE. Waited 32 minutes for 1 coffee after reminding them 3 times. Hope they do something about their operations coz it would be a shame to see this place go down.

Delicious pastries and great coffee! I have my own expresso machine and consider myself a coffee snob; this place makes a perfect cortado that you can enjoy with not sugar added. About the only bad thing is that they may runout of their best pastries during lunch hour (they do make more if you wait), and may be a tad slow in their service, however, it's always been extremely friendly.

I have been to this coffee shop 4 days in a row and I'm in love. I have tried their different pastries and they have all been delicious. I enjoy how it is all fresh and you can see them preparing it through a glass. Recommendations: nutella cruffin, white chocolate bread and croissants. The coffee is also very delicious!!

I love this cafe! Best lattw and breakfast in the area and they bake their own bread always fresh daily. The service was amazing and fast. Towner was very nice and accommodating If I can give more than a 5 star I totally would. If you are a coffee lover it is definitely a must!

This place is good for breakfast. They have a good selection of breakfast items on their menu. I had the almond croissants which is delicious, and the rest I don't remember their names but they were delicious too!

My good friend took me to this place yesterday i definitely did not expect such amazing quality in breads , excellent service the barista was very intuitive very impressed I highly recommend this place I hope someday they put one in Miramar that would be amazing...great job

This like transporting yourself to a pâtisserie in France... Need I say more? Place is very small, but the best part buy to go. An extreme variety to choose from. A must ham&cheese monkey bread. Guava Pastries and many more. If staying to eat Ham& Brie Sandwich. An amazing savory/sweet taste. I Highly recommend this place, we actually took 1 pastry of each also to go and have tried several. The White Sourdough Bread has a moist and buttery/salty taste. Hard on the outside , but yummy :)

While traveling throughout the island recently, El Horni de Pane was recommended to my wife and I by a coffee shop owner in Culebra, PR and we are super glad he suggested it. El Horno de Pani did not disappoint... the breakfast sandwiches we had were excellent, the pastries we had were excellent, and the coffee was excellent as well. We were fortunate enough to have the owner drop by our table and greet us as well, that definitely added to the experience. We highly recommend this spot for coffee and pastry lovers, whenever we get back to Puerto Rico this will definitely be one of our stops. Oh I almost forgot, on the way out we bought a baguette... and you guessed it, that was excellent too!

Great place to eat a nice warm breakfast!! We enjoyed all their breads and different options to eat. We also enjoyed their coffees! We have returned to this place many times because of the food, service and cleanliness! Great place!

Probably my expectations were too high about this place after reading their reviews...I went today to grab some pastries for a client and my quick experience was way below expectations. I never got a good morning, nor a hello, nor an acknowledgement of my presence in front of the pastries' window. I had to ask the two employees in front of me for assistance and they were not enthusiastic at all to help, their faces says it all. Only the cashier smiled at me at checkout. Guys your products could be delicious as they are but it's not worth it when you don't mind about genuinely serving your clients. Sadly this is my first and last visit. :/

The breads are good, the breakfast are good and the sandwiches are great. The coffee also is great. Been here a couple of times when Im near the area. The only negative are that the place is a little expensive and there is not enough room for everybody

Very good bread and pastries. The monkeybread is especially delicious. Also made to order breakfast and lunch dishes (sandwiches, soups, etc). Probably the best place in San Juan to get baguettes, focaccia, sourdough, etc.

Favorite place in Puerto Rico. Cruffins are unbelievable!!! Order 2 ....1 is not enough!!

Waited in a long line to order and pay for our food, only for our order to get lost. We complained several times that people who ordered after us were being served their food before us, to no avail. Waited over 45 minutes to get served, while watching other customers who came in after us finish their meals and leave. Response to our complaints was poor; too slow and too late. Will think twice before giving it another chance.

Great Bread... real bread.. airy and crusty for the first time in Puerto Rico!! REAL BREAD! Try the Sour dough, baguette, and the Ciabatta. Croissants are also light an flaky; chocolate croissants need to be warmed before serving to better enjoy the nice, dark chocolate filling. Lovely open kitchen lets you share the secrets of GOOD bread making. Kind of hidden in the corner of the Montemar Shopping center in Hato Rey; enter by Freshmart and go straight past Mandy's; it's the first store on the left.

The patries are delicious, the coffee is really good and even the breakfasts and sandwiches are great!

I stumbled upon this place while working near by. I love this place. Everything is made fresh and taste amazing. I had the Ham and Brie sandwich, French Toast, and eggs scrambled. All delicious. The coffee is the best I have had while in San Juan. Wait staff is professional and quick.

Now that Levain has closed at Paseo Caribe, El Horno may be the best bread in San Juan. Instead of the usual pan criollo and pan sobao options, they offer European-style bread, baguettes, ciabatta, sourdough, and also fruit & nut loaves. Their breakfast and lunch offerings are very good, but we go for the bread. On Saturday mornings the line goes out the door, but it's definitely worth the trouble. If I don't say it's the best bread in Puerto Rico, it's because Levain is still open in Aguadilla (ironically, the Horno's baker is also an Aguadilla native).

Had such a bad experience that I decided to write a review because I would appreciate to read about experiences like this one when considering where to go for a good breakfast. An employee took our order on post it notes while we were waiting in line. This is supposed to be a method to move a line quicker. When we got to pay at the register I noticed that coffee orders taken after ours were being served. I told the cashier and SHE said ours would be served right away. After waiting a long time (more that 15 minutes) and watching coffees come and go, I asked again and then is when they prepared and brought our coffees. Same long wait for the food that was "prepared" in the kitchen (two grilled cheeses and two bowls of farina). Decided to ask SHE again and could notice they did not know what happened to our order. Then they brought a burnt grilled cheese! I mean, the bread was totally black. At that point I was so mad that could not eat. Then SHE confessed our order was never "processed" and offered a total refund. For me, money back does not replace a terrible terrible terrible family breakfast experience. And btw, it turns out SHE is the owner!

Stumbled upon this place and its one of the yummiest happiest stumbles of all time. Had the monkey bread, Choclate Danish/croissant and they were delish, flakey, not overly sweet and just the right amount of chocolate. Can't wait to beeak into the chocolate bread.
