The 24 Best Restaurants in Monterrey, Mexico | Eater

"If you’re passing through the Monterrey airport, be sure to make time for a meal at El Jonuco, just 10 minutes away in the industrial neighborhood of Apodaca. Banker-turned-chef Hugo Guajardo highlights the regional cuisine of Northeastern Mexico with modern twists. He combines recipes from his past, like his grandmother’s pear tart, with traditional local dishes, like wedding rice (popular throughout Nuevo Leon; in this case, a chicken-stock-fortified version from Zuazua, studded with raisins and poblanos). Go for the empalmes, sandwiches of atropellado (dried meat with tomato, chile, and onion) between crispy tortillas. Or try the criollo avocados, meant to be eaten peel and all, or the glorious grilled panela cheese with agave honey and chile piquin sauce. Be sure to stop by on Sunday to try the succulent, grilled cabrito (baby goat). The restaurant setting is entirely casual, and meals are accompanied by the accordion-embellished strains of Northern Mexican music. [$$-$$$]" - Liliana López Sorzano

This was undoubtedly the best restaurant I visited in Monterrey. The food is of high quality and the presentation is beautiful. I tasted the ox dewlap, oxtail soup with bone marrow and bone marrow tacos and everything was delicious. This place also had one of the best flan that I have ever had. I highly recommend this place, and would visit it again.

Very tasty food tried a lot of different things and wasn't disappointed by any of them. They must have filtered ice, not one of all of us Americans got sick from having ice in our drinks like I know you can at some places in Mexico. Poison beans were really good and the slow roasted pork chunks main dish forgot the name.

El Jonuco offers a fantastic dining experience that truly captures the essence of Mexican cuisine with a contemporary twist. The dishes are full of rich flavors and fresh ingredients, making each bite a delight. The ambiance is warm and inviting, complementing the excellent service. One standout recommendation is to end your meal with the exquisite fig dessert, which is both unique and delicious. Paired with a 'carajillo'—a coffee spiked with liquor—it’s the perfect way to conclude an unforgettable meal.

Great atmosphere, but place has no choice of meats. Only arachera was available as a steak. Please reconsider the menu offering. Also, there were at least 3 major dropping of dishes on the floor by servers. Kinda a noisy. Appetizers were ok. Nothing much impressive, really. The dessert was delicious! Monterrey is known for good steaks. Please catch up with a great reputation.

You gotta try the in house specialty drink Mezquite. All the items in these pictures are so tasty. Bone marrow, streak, smoked chicken are all fantastic! pumpkin salad is kinda of on the sweet side. Pear pie is delicious, final sweet touch. Fabulous!
