Reportedly the city’s only Mexican buffet, highlighted by 225 Magazine for its sprawling, frequently refreshed spread. A family‑run spot where you can sample broadly—from tamales to fajitas—without committing to a single plate.

The one thing I didn't know I needed in my life. The food is fresh delicious and filling. I love how I can mix and match and make as many different dishes as I can think up. Some would call it small but I would say quaint. I can see how it being busier would make the buffet a little harder to access but it's more than worth it.

Google
Great dining experience. Great customer service. Clean and great aroma in the atmosphere.

Google
Super great place to go eat at if you love Mexican food. They have a variety of different options of food to choose from on the buffet bar. The food is always hot and tastes good. You’ll definitely enjoy it and leave with your belly feeling full. Great table service and atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place if you’re ever in the area.

Google
Food tastes amazing good. Very friendly staff, amazing ambience. Soups, jalapeños dishes, meats everything's tastes so so good. Worth the drive from Pineville. Will definitely coming back.

Google
2 options. You can order traditionally or get buffet food. I tried the buffet and it was alright Mexican food nothing out of this world. The meats were good and soppapilas are great 👍. I plan to go again.

Google
I tried everything at the buffet & all of it was amazing. I'm really glad we found this place. The waitress we had was sweet & helpful. The only thing is don't get more than you think you can eat. They will charge you for the food you don't eat.

Google
Very nice, family friendly restaurant. The exterior and interior is very clean and neat. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is awesome. You select an entree of your choice or eat from the buffet.

Nataly Guardado

Google
My family and I are regulars here. This is my mom’s favorite place to eat! The food from the buffet is always hot and fresh. Everyone is SO polite and attentive. Very clean place. My favorite thing about this restaurant is that it doesn’t tone down the authenticity to cater to non-Hispanic people, like a lot of Mexican restaurants tend to do. This restaurant has been a favorite of ours for years.

Yelp
They had some really good Tres leches cake and the best tacos in Baton Rouge. They waiter was super nice and the place had a great feel and atmosphere.

Yelp
The food, the service, and the price were outstanding! All these years passing by this place I never truly recognized what was there and how much I was missing.

Yelp
Not bad at all . I could literally just eat salads there . Great service. Nice variety . I had shrimp which were seasoned really good . I'd definitely come back

Yelp
El Magey has been here for a number of years. I love Mexican food and look to try new ones and even though it has been a long time coming, it was worth the wait. The food was good and our server was very friendly, helpful, and sweet. The atmosphere was good and casual. It was perfect for a Sunday afternoon pregame meal.

Yelp
Always gets better, this has been one of my favorite places for years. The buffet has fresh fruit and salad, vegetables, two types of queso, so many things to select from. The watermelon was crisp, there are quesadillas, beef and jalapeño cheese burritos, several types of desert, flan, tres leches cake, soapapillas, tamales. They give you chips and salsa, the salsa is fresh, the chips are great. They add new items all the time. Fried fish, bbq chicken, diablo shrimp but not spicy, all the sides come with the buffet like sour cream, pico de gallo, cilantro, it's amazing. I paid $20.95 but it's always the best. Great atmosphere. You cannot go wrong at this place.

Yelp
Food : for a Mexican buffet, the taste and quality is pretty good especially for the price! On Sundays only, they offer specialty soups like menudo and pazole! Yummmmm Service : self serve. Ambiance : neat and welcoming

Yelp
THE BEST MEXICAN BUFFET EVER!!! Everything was cooked from scratch, or tasted like it. Tortillas were awesome, fajita chicken was great. Everything was DELICIOUS!!! And the service was super friendly. Will definitely come back soon!!!

Yelp
Prices are high! $15:95 for a buffet. We came because kids eat free on Wednesday nights. They considered 12 + an adult. Me and my granddaughter who's 12 came in with 3 other grandkids, a 6 year old a 10 year old and a 11 year old. With every adult purchase, one kid eats free. Instead of charging us for the two adults and the 6 year old, they charged us 2 adults and the 11 year old. The price for a 11 year old was $10.95 instead of the price I would have paid for the 6 year old (6:95) Why does 4 dollars matter so much! If the youngest wasn't there the middle kids would be free (including the 11 year old!) Service was Rude. Prices are crazy for a buffet! 0 Stars!!

Dave M.

Yelp
Mexican Buffet. Service was fast and the buffet tables were kept clean. Little plates if you want to try everything. Fajita meat was cooked just right. Flour tortillas available upon request.

Yelp
This is a great buffet with everything on it chichangas, tamales, enchilada, taco's, fish, tamales and so much more. It's all delicious
google avatar

Yelp
I grew up on Ponchos and you can only find a couple of those left in Texas. This brings me to my days of Ponchos. The food is actually good, fresh, and hot. We will be driving from Mandeville/Covington area to come get this again.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem for sure. I never knew the Baton Rouge had a Mexican buffet until a couple weeks ago. We were told about this restaurant and decided to go lay night. The hostess, and the waiter were exceptional. From the time we walked in, we were served drinks immediately. The food was anything and everything you would want from a Mexican restaurant. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The chips and salsa is THE BEST BY FAR I've ever had. Chips were thin and crispy, salsa was nice and spicy! The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and cozy, decorated with Christmas decor and playing English and Spanish Christmas songs...very relaxing. Now that I know this restaurant exists, we will definitely be back.

Candy J.

Yelp
I found my newest restaurant by tying in taco salad. This salad is everything and then some. Calling to place my order the gentleman I spoke to was very helpful. I will surely be coming back for the buffet next time. I give it a 10 in my book.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place when you want a good variety of Mexican food. It's off the beaten path of Siegen and when you walk in the place is clean and inviting. They keep the buffet stocked and with many options like chicken fajita, pork fajita, Mexican rice, tacos, grilled fish, quesadillas, and some other non traditional dishes. The variety changes on lunch and dinner but keeps the same options mentioned above. Everything is hot and fresh to say it is a buffet. They also will bring you chips and salsa to the table if you want it. If you like spicy salsa, try the extra spicy or the habanero salsa on the bar and thank me later. Reasonable pricing (just really wish they had a bar and this would make it the perfect spot) and great service. Pretty sure this is a legit chose for many BR natives.

Yelp
In the mood for fresh homemade Mexican food and be an all you can eat?? Then come here! The service is wonderful, and the food is great. I look around a see plenty of satisfied looks on everyone's faces, including my own! :) A tip, check out their website for the price. Each day offers a slightly different variety in soups and entrees, but you'll be sure to something you like.
google avatar

Mallori D.

Yelp
Best Mexican buffet! The food is great and so was the service. They need to serve alcohol and it was a little pricey. But worth it!

Mikey A.

Yelp
I ate the buffet and the food tasted fake. It was a step below middle school cafeteria food. It was also 20 dollars a head for a very limited selection. People seemed nice but I will definitely not be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
Upgrade to four stars - I've been here enough to recognize this IS really good (and authentic- no Tex-Mex here). The carnitas and grilled jalapeños are still the best. The menudo is great, tamales are good, enchiladas with salsa verde, rice - all very good. The chips are a bit stale and the salsa is weak (quite tomato-ey without a lot of spice). But everything else is very good.
google avatar

Craig R.

Yelp
Great variety on the buffet. The flautas and taquitos were really good. Shrimp were fresh but could use more seasoning. The salsa was good and had a nice kick But them lengua was horrible. They don't clean off the outer membrane on the cow tongue but it was tender so not the problem. There wasn't any flavor and the gravy it was cooked in was greasy and bland usually not a problem with Mexican food.
google avatar

Laura Reddington A.

Yelp
It was really good, all fresh and delicious, enjoyed the chips and salsa. Services was prompt and friendly, only problem is I ate too much
google avatar

Yelp
Great buffet. We travel to Baton Rouge from Kenner just to eat here. We've come about 3 times since finding them in October and each time was great. On our second experience, service was a little slow but I went to find the server and realized she was actually helping out in the kitchen so I couldn't be mad at her! Very relaxed atmosphere. Love the chili rellenos, flan and tres leche!
google avatar

Mackenzie B.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Great Buffett, kind of small but it has really great options, great desserts, the food is always fresh, friendly staff even for a Buffett. They have a seafood soup and it is incredible. As well as the flan. You can make your own taco or taco salad.m. A different variety of Mexican food such as quesadillas, enchiladas, flan, flatus, chili rellino, two types of queso, a salad bar, 3 salsa options, sautéed shrimp and more!! Highly recommended! Worth the $18.
google avatar

Leigh A.

Yelp
Lots of choices.. my single favorite dish are the fried plantains. Well I do like orange spicy salsa too. Convenient to work but very pricey .. $27 with tip for 1 person is a lot!! I do like that they will bring chips & corn tortillas to table if asked (they are not on buffet).. friendly staff.
google avatar

Toni H.

Yelp
What can I say? My grandchildren love this place. The food is good but the prices are getting a little too high for a buffet.
google avatar

Teri D.

Yelp
Holy cow!! I wasn't expecting much even though the parking lot is always crowded when we drive by. It's WAYYYY nicer than you would think from just driving by and very clean as well. The service was good for a buffet and even the iced tea was good. I tasted everything I could fit on my plate; here's the breakdown: Fajita meat: steak and chicken both yummy. Taco meat: nicely seasoned and also delicious. Pork tamales: some of the best I've ever had. Carnitas: A little salty and chewy but still tasty. A really nice little place and definitely a hidden gem. It was packed with Mexican folks so that is always a sign of authentic and delicious food. I could have eaten a lot more but we have dinner reservations tonight at Ruth's Chris for my birthday and I want to be hungry for that as well. We're definitely coming back to El Magey and suggest that you try it. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I would like to share my view in this restaurant! First of all price is way too high not really a Mexican food...why!? Because pupusas are from El Salvador, second: who likes to go to a restaurant that by the owners beliefs you got to listen to Christian music!? NOT ME a restaurant is for people go pay and have a good time with your friends this people by the way from El Salvador not México told me that they have all the right to play Christian music so they can get people to go to their church so they can make more money!!! Not me, it's my money and I want everyone to know about this fake place, my suggestions is not to go at all.

Brian N.

Yelp
Food was great taste great, taste fresh staff was nice I will be back Bar might look small when you come through the door but trust me there is so much food available. They are always bringing out more. Nice decor clean no problems with this place
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
I mean, its definitely a ton of food for the price if that's what you're going for! The shrimp quesadillas and some sort of marinated sticky chicken were very good. Everything else was mediocre. Maybe would go back if I'm ravenous and craving quesadillas but I'd prefer somewhere with higher quality.
google avatar

Ronald C.

Yelp
At this price, you can barely go to a regular Tex-Mex place and get a plate of enchiladas, but at El Magey, you get a buffet of so much more. The food here has been fresh every time I've gone and there is a wide assortment to choose from including all your favorites. The waiter also will offer you chips, salsa, guacamole, and other treats for your table should you want them. Is it the best Tex-Mex food I've ever eaten? No. But it's really quite good, all things considered. Come hungry- I always end up over-indulging.
google avatar

Troy E.

Yelp
Hmmm. The worst thing here is the Sunday lunch crowd lol. Great problem to have. Great food, great service. A few unique items on this Mexican food buffet but nothing will be ill-prepared and items don't sit long. If you happen to see a unavailable portion, speak up and standby as it will be replenished quickly. This is a local, and I wish secret joint. Mind the time of day to avoid it's busiest times but otherwise, be hungry and enjoy.

Yelp
El Magey...my husband texted me one day and said his boss was taking him to lunch at an all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet. I was intrigued. Of course we have heard of Chinese buffets and buffets like Golden Corral, but this was something different. First off, upon entering, the restaurant was spotless. I am telling you I have never been in a buffet as clean as this one. We went on a Thursday evening and there were a few people there, but it was not busy at all. Our waitress was very kind and attentive to our needs. We went up to the line and saw a variety of choices. They have stuffed poblano peppers, two different types of quesadillas, a whole taco bar with a variety of toppings, soups, queso, and a lot of fried items full of goodness. The tamales were delicious and were moist with a lot of flavor. I ate several quesadillas and they were great and the stuffed peppers were great. My favorite item was the cheese enchiladas; they were bliss. The price was $35 for the two of us, not including the tip. I find this reasonable, especially in Baton Rouge. Overall, I cannot wait to go back and I would like to bring a group of friends next time.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
I can't believe it's taken me so long to come here. Everyone is friendly and very attentive here. The service makes you forget you're even at a buffet really. They have tortillas upon request and homemade chips and salsa, which is very dine-in restaurant like. As for the food selection, there is not much. But the different types of enchiladas, tamales, soups, and fajita vegetables and meats that you could build your own taco or burrito with, are much more filling than you'd expect. Good filling spot when you're hungry and in the area.
google avatar

Pacience S.

Yelp
Definitely not somewhere I'd go again. The staff was nice and the food was fresh but nothing I had was something I took more than a few bites of. The quality just wasn't what I expected . There are a lot of choices if you eat meat but few vegetarian choices other than salad, and a few fried options that induced jalapeño and cheese chimichanga and cheese and onion enchiladas that both included this weird orange cheese. Everything was just so bland which was disappointing considering the good reviews.

Jam M.

Yelp
I love this place because everybody who knows something good comes here. I see a lot of local Latinos come eat here so you know it's gotta be good. I don't have to talk about the Mexican food because you can read from all the other reviews that it's pretty good. There's a good variety of Mexican dishes but surprisingly they always have teriyaki chicken and bbq ribs that have no business being that good at a buffet.
google avatar

Dawn T.

Yelp
This is now our all time favorite family friendly restaurant in Baton Rouge. They were super gracious when our 17 person party walked in with no reservations. They had us seated in less than 5 minutes and their service was wonderful and very friendly! We felt like part of the family and the food was outstanding! We love good food! This did not disappoint and their buffet was excellent. My particular favorite was the chili rellenos and the flan! The meats were all seasoned to perfection! Their salad bar offered great variety and perfectly cut pieces of delicious veggies. My whole family found much to love. And many of them are very particular. Thank you El Magey for not disappointing us!!
google avatar

Cheryl G.

Yelp
We were looking for Mexican food while traveling through, and now we wish it weren't so far from home! Very close to the highway, so easy if you are on the road. The buffet is fantastic, and has some of the best beef and chicken fajitas I've ever had! The pork tamales reminded me of ones from my childhood - so good!! With sweet plantains, too! Mama Gwen stops by every table to check-in, and shared that they make everything from scratch starting in the early morning hours...and you can tell it's made with care! The put out small batches on the buffet, so things are fresh. We look forward to our next visit!

Yelp
One does not simply wander into El Magey, it is a journey through the notches on one's belt in more ways than in the literal sense. Going from a respectable belt-eye to carrying your belt out of the restaurant in shame has never been so sweet. At work, we have the legend of El Magey, in which we went to eat lunch there for a co-worker's birthday. It felt like we ate the entire buffet clean, and still we continued on, none of us wanting to stop. Unbeknownst to us, a storm had blown in dark clouds whilst we gorged ourselves, and when we finally staggered out, bellies bloated and eyes glazed over with a salsa-like sheen - into the parking lot, it looked more like 7pm than high noon. It led me to exclaim, "Jesus, how long were we in there for!?" And thus it is known that lunches may run long in El Magey, that delicious buffet where time knows no bounds, nor does your stomach.

Steve B.

Yelp
Came back for the first time in a while. A couple of items on the buffet (taco salad bowl, chicken) were good. Other items mediocre. Biggest disappointment was service. Only had someone come by our table once the whole time just before leaving. Had to go to the register once to ask for drink refills.
google avatar

Ashlee D.

Yelp
I have never been to a Mexican buffet until last night. I was pleasantly surprised by the selection. The food was pretty decent for a buffet. They had a balloon artist for the kids which was entertaining even if we were two adults dining. Be sure to agree to tortillas when asked if you want soft shell tacos. My favorite were the little chimis and there shrimp.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
This place was AWESOME!!! Had everything and more you could ever want on a Mexican buffet! The fish was the best! My hubs ate so many tamales. He said they were amazing! Will definitely be back for more!!
google avatar

Deme Z.

Yelp
Warning: staff don't wear their masks properly and some of the customers were walking up to the buffet without them on at all. I wouldn't go unless you're fully vaccinated.

Caleb R.

Yelp
Very amazing food, good value too. Definitely glad we found this gem because we will be coming back!
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Best Mexican buffet hands down. Where else can you get a taco salad, poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, best bbq ribs, stuffed pork and chicken soft tacos, soppapillas, flan, tres leche, 3 great soups, and a whole lot more to choose from.
google avatar

Que N.

Yelp
Holy moly guacamole- did someone say Mexican buffet?! When you hear these words in the same sentence, you have to do a double take. Have no fear, El Magey is here! Fajitas, tacos, and sopapillas oh my! Rule of thumb- come here with an appetite to truly enjoy the Mexican buffet experience. I was surprised at the variety of choices: fajitas (beef or chicken), tacos, chicken flautas, quesadillas, taco salad bowls, enchiladas, chile relleno, chimichangas, tamales, soups, queso (white or yellow) and even desserts (tres leches, flan, sopapillas, plantains). Everything I tried tasted good but I really enjoyed the well-seasoned, juicy chicken fajitas, chile relleno, tres leches, and sopapillas (think of it as a Mexican beignet, topped with honey and powdered sugar). The buffet is stocked pretty well with hot food that is constantly being brought out from the kitchen. Te salad bar also looked fresh. The friendly staff bring you warm flour or corn tortillas as well as chips and salsa on request. Be sure to grab some white queso from the buffet- it was all sorts of cheesy goodness that day I visited. Your drink will never be empty and used plates are taken away promptly. The restaurant interior is clean and they do a good job of keeping the buffet area clean. It's a new year, go ahead and indulge yourself. El Magey has become one of my local favorites because of the value, service and variety of food. El Magey is the one for me- shouldn't it be yours too?! P.S. If you have room for dessert after the feasting, you can check out the goodies next door at the Mexican bakery- Panaderia Las Delicias!
google avatar

Tony S.

Yelp
Really decent tex mex buffet for a really good price. Parking lot is really cramped at times but still a great place. Lots of working folks hit this place for lunch but you get seated very quickly. We usually go about once a week.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
This is one of my top three Mexican food choices. The buffet offers a wide selection (not man vegetarian choices), and all the food is incredibly fresh. The salad section has the freshest ingredients, and their crispy tortilla bowls are great. They offer both white and yellow queso, but the yellow is sub par, IMHO. Staff is always friendly, courteous, and helpful. Their baskets of tortilla chips are fried to perfection, and are paper thin, but SO sturdy. They also offer a "frequent flyer" punch card: buy ten dinners, get one free. I'd eat here daily, but my doctor says that's not a good idea ;) Only real down side is that they are alcohol free. I would love a cold margarita with my endless tacos, but the food is good enough, I forget they don't offer booze.
google avatar

Gummy B.

Yelp
Very good Mexican buffet. It is limited what you can choose from but overall what you get is really good. Our family liked it. Waiters will attend you promptly. Don't expect desert as they have one or two things for that.
google avatar

Glen C.

Yelp
My daughter and I went for the first time! We had fun making our own tacos and having all the fixings handy! They have all you need for fajitas as well! We will be back!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
This is the best Mexican buffet in Baton Rouge. I come here atleast once a week for lunch. The place is very spacious and clean. The servicers are attentive. They have have all of the traditional mexican dishes. The price is good for the quality. Make sure to bring your whole family and enjoy the buffet you wont regret it.
