Google
Good place to come to if you would like to chill and listen to some nice music. Came here 1 time and had the time of my life! I can't wait to stop by again and have some fun 😁 The best part of the night was that everyone was so freaking nice. We all danced, laughed, and sang!

Google
I just ordered 4 pina coladas one of them being the mix with remy Henny which you would think should have extra liquor..welll to our suprise it was not. 4 drinks and they all had Little to no liquor. When I tried to ask for just a bit more, the staff said it would be of extra charge. Honestly, if your choice is to have a nice drink, this isn't it. ! The music is extremely loud.

Shrabanti Bhattacharjee

Google
Totally loved the atmosphere and loved how the interior looked. The food was good but the drinks were way too strong. A few of them tasted like it wasn't mixed properly. All in all not a bad spot for a date night.

Rudy Demera

Google
They will only sell you beer by the bucket. Is a shame, there was at least 3 more couples that left because they finished their beer but the music and atmosphere was still good. They are latterly letting money walk out the door. The Calamari was delicious, quesadilla was just ok and no salsa sauce; not very big portions for the $.

Jose Angel

Google
The food is made with "Non Mexican" ingredients, the ambient is mid, their DJ plays SOUTH AMERICAN rancheras instead of Mexican and the Bartenders won't give you what you ask for, even if is less liquor 🙄🙄🤦🏽‍♂️

Pablo Pedraza

Google
Don’t go, they are rats. The owners are thieves the charge 22% of tips in advance and them they overcharge 25% of extra tips. In total 45% just in tips without my approval.

Freddy Aguilar

Google
Music too loud, portions really small, prices aren't cheap or fare, servers are ok is not their fault, management should think about making changes. Defenetly not a good portion to share, to make it up an only because my wife complaint we were offered a complementary 4 shrimps. be more honest with the prices for the food you serve.

Angel Ortega

Google
Very nice place. For karaoke exelente 👌

Yelp
El Maguey, where even your grandma would rock out to "Despacito" on karaoke night. Seriously, this place is so lively it makes Times Square look like a library. The food? On point. The service? Blink and your tacos are here. But the drinks? Imagine a sour mix swimming pool. Dive in at your own risk. If you're looking to chat, forget it. It's louder than the 7 train at rush hour. But if you want a night to remember--or not remember--this is your spot.

Yelp
How would I describe the vibe here? It was so much energy. I would say it's like a big party atmosphere with a feel of a nightclub inside, but it's not big though. The weather was so beautiful outside that I chose to sit outside and just chill in the moonlight. It was finally time for me to relax. I had ordered the Blue Pijama, and my gf had the Pina colada. I tried some of her Pina colada, and it was super sweet, whereas my drink was really strong and you could totally taste the tequila. Lol. Well, I'm remember walking to the entrance, and there was a lady offering free shots with lime on top. I'm not sure what kind, since I didn't try it, but I can next time. Our waitress was super friendly, and she spoke mainly Spanish. My friend and I speak some conversational Spanish so we definitely were able to order things. One awesome aspect about this place is that it offers a ton of outside seating, and it is cute. This place is good for groups and also for dates. I have been here before and tried the food which is definitely worth it. I would absolutely recommend it to others.

Yelp

Michelle C.

Yelp
I was in the mood for some drinks and hookah. Turned out to be a night of karaoke and great music. I had their frozen passion fruit margarita and their mint hookah. Not only were their drinks great, their music selection was on point. The environment is fun and the service was great. I didn't have the chance to try their food but I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
One of the best decisions of my life stopping in here...

Jonathan M.

Yelp

Melanie M.

Yelp
I wish I could give them ZERO stars. Through Grubhub/Seamless, I wasted 15 minutes of my life looking for a place to order, plus the time deciding what to order, and an additional 15 minutes only to be contacted by the restaurant 10 minutes after placing the order to be notified they "couldn't fulfill the order and I would 'need to cancel'." Ummm, no. You cancel. I understand the service industry is struggling right now, but don't waste my time allowing me to search and order. UNACCEPTABLE.

Java S.

Yelp
They advertise they do hookah as well serve food and drinks. That's not the case. Went in and asked about it, they were trying to say why they didn't offer it anymore but couldn't hear due to how high the music was & the people "trying" to do karaoke. Volume was up to 101 and there was a lot of feedback & they didn't seem to care. Couldn't hear person across from you & didn't have what I went there for in the first place. Told the lady we were leaving and she said she understands. So if the waitress understood, then I'm sure you all will understand.

Yvette P.

Yelp
We walked in to a club ambiance on a Monday night. Not expected but also didn't t mind. Unfortunately our waiter was the only downfall here. She did not know the food/drink menu when we had questions due to food allergies. She had to repeatedly excuse herself and ask the kitchen for answers. Food was average and so was the service.

Lizzette M.

Yelp
Save yourselves time and money. Came here to celebrate 5 de Mayo in hopes of a reasonable margarita to say the least. Well to start off, the menu was very limited because they claim this was the weekend menu. We started off with some guac and chips. Chips were your regular nachos from a bag...semi crunchy and stale. The guac came in a molcajete the size my kid's fist, and to top it off was flavorless. Along with this "exquisite" guac came two tiny dips of salsa and some unknown substance what appeared to be sliced mushroom in some sort vinaigrette - absolutely disgusting. My kid got some nuggets and fries and even he didn't like the nuggets. These were clearly refried and tasted weird. We ordered the entrées but these came out 25 minutes later. We ordered ribs in green sauce which appeared to be Huaxmole but were flavorless. I ordered salmon in maracuyá sauce. The salmon was clearly microwaved- dryer than my damn eyes! No sides until after I was done eating I received a plate of tostones- the only salvageable meal. They charged the guacamole as an entree- absolutely ridiculous! I just wanted to leave. Clearly this place is one shady business. They had a group of individuals come in with a dog and go to the back room. Do not come! The food is by far the worst I've tasted on northern boulevard, and overpriced! A disgrace to Mexican cuisine! If I could give them negative stars, I would.

Carmen C.

Yelp
I really liked the environment They have karaoke's night every weekend. Food was ok, Drinks are ok. They need to work more on costumer services.

Jhonny E. A.

Yelp
This place is amazing ! Come and enjoy of a great service and music , specially the singer !! Jhonny Bauttie he really makes this place an spectacular place to enjoy ! A short-out to Mexico !

Jackeline V.

Yelp

Leticia M.

Yelp
Ordered Uber delivery and everything was fine except the soy protein used in the enchiladas were rancid. I had to throw it out. Other than that it was fine. Just be sure to check that your food hasn't spoiled!

Kathina79 ..

Yelp
We ordered shrimp cocktail and tacos for delivery. My ceviche was dry, (all the juices in the plastic bag) It was a mess. Tacos were all mix up. Worst presentation.

Livanh J.

Yelp
My advice is to NOT come here. Terrible food, worse service and they will SCAM you, beware! The prices on the menu do not match what they charge you, so be careful. Also, they will include a 20% gratuity (after taxes) on the bill without asking you. On top of that you are given an option to give an additional tip. They will charge you $8 for an order of chips and salsa and its a very small bowl with a tiny bowl of salsa. The servers don't care about you because they will get a tip no matter what. The food is of mediocre quality so definitely not worth paying $25 to $45 bucks for an item on the menu. Stay away, you'll regret coming here. Across the street, much better places.

Rashonda J.

Yelp
Typical Mexican food. The guacamole was the best...and most expensive. It was creamy with the right amount of seasoning and flavor. I was a bit disappointed with the chips. I expected them to be warm. They were cold and some of them were a bit stale. I ordered the veggie tacos. The veggies were cut very large. While the dish looked appetizing, it lacked in flavor. It was just okay.

William A.

Yelp

Deidre W.

Yelp
El Maguey is a lovely and new addition to the Mexican restaurant scene in Jackson Heights, and it is well worth the trip. I dined here with my daughter for my birthday and we really enjoyed a most delicious chicken in mole sauce (such a big portion that we shared it), appetizer of delicious guacamole and guzzled down a pitcher of sangria. The service was attentive, professional and friendly. At some point after we had finished our meal, the restaurant got very quiet, and i started to hear the birthday song! They had listened when my daughter said it was my birthday - the entire restaurant staff came over to sing happy birthday while the music came over the sound system. It so choked me up! This brand new restaurant got it all right. (Went back the next day to get that chicken mole for el hub! This one's a keeper!

Yelp
Came in around 7 and was immediatley welcomed and explained the drink deals. We got margarita pitchers and hookah and all of it was really good. Very relaxing, great place to unwind. Amazing spot in Jackson Heights! Really cozy, warm and welcome. Can't wait to come back and try the food!

Habiba S.

Yelp
We were skeptical to order takeout during COVID but this restaurant was very meticulous with our order and made sure to have everything correct. Everything was really good, especially the steak tacos. Their churros are also a must!

Amrin I.

Yelp
This Mexican spot is super cute. They have outside seating. The server spoke English. We got the steak tacos and steak enchiladas with green sauce. It was very delicious and authentic. There was a band playing some music. Overall very nice experience at a authentic Mexican Restaurant.

Carl S.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, friendly people! It feels right whenever you come in with the atmosphere. Highly recommended

Andy A.

Yelp
Food was trash and the lady didn't speak English The drunk lamb was just bones and sauce

Yelp
Idk why this place doesn't have 5 starts this is my Go to whenever I'm in the Jackson heights area, the food is phenomenal I always get chicken nachos or shrimp tacos and it's a hit every single time. There sangrias is the best in town I promise even the pitchers are worth it shootouts to the bartender, they always have karaoke mainly Spanish music but I'm sure if you have an request they'll be more than happy to accommodate you staff here is very professional and friendly they have indoor and outside seating music is a bit loud so sometimes I'll sit outside to I can hair my company but I love this place drinks are nice and strong pricing is reasonable no hookah tho but you'll eat good and drink even better.

Nicole S.

Yelp
THEY TIP THEMSELVES 20% WITHOUT your authorization. The service was a bit slow, food was good, the waitress took forever at the end to give us our check. Rarely checked on us. I was aiming to give $10 tip considering she forgot about us quite a bit. Total was $72.50, sent my cc in got back a receipt with the amount of 95.50. Charged herself over 18% tip. I didn't get an option of giving cash tip or the amount that I chose. Pay with cash or don't go at all. (Also we brought this up to another waitress about how our waitress charged herself a tip, and she said she was a promoter and was just helping her friend out. The owner might have a system that automatically does this.)

Deborah R.

Yelp
Food was ok enjoyed my fajitas but they made it really salty. The tax they added was about 10% not the 8.9% where we live. On a $30 bill the tax was $3.24, then on top of it they put a tip on, so not cool.

Michael G.

Yelp
UPDATE: Second time there and STILL love ir. 3 Cheers for Jorge, who is fantastic! Delicious authentic food, beautiful decor (plus sidewalk tables), outstanding fresh juice margaritas (check out the menu in the photos) and super friendly staff. A gem on Northern!! Mario was a great host!

Anais P.

Yelp
The service was horrible. The food is not good at all. I asked the waitress to bring me guacamole and chips before my food and she brought it with my food. The chicken was disgusting! The waitress didn't even bother to check if we were good. The worst $100 I ever spent in my life. Maria, I did tell her and nothing was done !

Laura V.

Yelp
My favor margarita was the passion fruit. I tried the horchata, mango , guava and my favorite was to he passion fruit. guacamole and chips vegan and fish tacos were also yummy

Kwame S.

Yelp
I came for the booze; and stayed for the conversation. One random evening, I was hopping to and from places in Jackson Heights and my friend highly recommended this place for the delicious and interesting margaritas. I was very pleased that El Maguey had the feeling of a local neighborhood cantina/restaurant, whose substance is defined by its drinks and food. I will be honest, I did not have any food (or special beverages) during my visit. Upon entering the small bar, we were greeted by the bartender, whose name I forget, but he was very social and friendly. Since there were not a lot of people in the restaurant, we pretty much chatted with him during our visit. El Maguey has an interesting margarita menu . . . yet I just had tequila on the rocks. I guess that I did not have a taste for margaritas during the visit, but I wanted tequila. Although I did not have food and specialty drinks, there was something about El Maguey that really made me feel at home. And by "at home", I mean sitting in my local, neighborhood bar. Even though El Maguey is a bit out of the way for me, I could see myself going back if I am in the neighborhood. Maybe I will try some of the food and specialty margaritas during my next visit.

Maria A.

Yelp
Be careful with the cover the "singer and DJ the Colombian guy" loves to charge more money than it's supposed to be (doesn't give back the change) Even if you go there after midnight he asks you for the cover. So please be aware of that. The bad thing about this situation it's that the costumers don't want to come back. Remember this is America no colombia or another country from South America so Be honest!!!

Val P.

Yelp
Im giving you pros and cons: I was in the mood for fajitas, didn't want to drive and lose my parking space lol and read the reviews. Just a couple of blocks from my apt, this place was surprisingly good. We went around 7p and were seated right away. We requested outdoor and were accomodated. Ordered chips and salsa for appetizer- Wasn't pleased that the waitress directed me to the chips (complete nachos) that cost $14 instead of the simple chips and salsa which were $6- and I'm used to other Mex restaurants that automatically bring some as soon as you sit down, but as a small restaurant, I get it. Chips came with a green sauce and a spicier zucchini sauce- really good. Entrees were steak burrito - huge!, steak fajitas- really good although it reminded me more of pepper steak than charbroiled steak and were a bit on the thin side but great nonetheless, and a chicken enchilada without sauce for my daughter- also good. Entrees came with delicious yellow rice and black beans- well seasoned and good. My fajitas came with sour cream, guac, onion/ cilantro mix, plus separate well presented little bowls of hot red sauce, mild green sauce and ketchup. Ordered addtl mozzarella sticks and french fries combo which was a great combo, delish- fries well fried, sticks nice and melted. For dessert ordered churros con helado (with ice cream) wow a must! Churros are fresh with sugar and cinnamon coating and drizzled with chocolate. Ice cream is a bowl of napolitan icecream (vanilla, chocolate and strawberry). Not thrilled that a $20 tip was already included for a party of 3 and it's CASH only, so keep that in mind when you go. We spent about $154 including 2 Heinekens, a shot of Hornitos cuervo, 1 corona, and 2 sodas. Overall a good experience with good food! Enjoy!

Marisol C.

Yelp
The place had a very authentic atmosphere. Loved that. The food was very fresh and delicious. Had taco Tuesday chicken tacos that were great, lots of meat. The veggie quesadilla was very yummy. Sangrias were big and on point. Then they had the churros with ice cream dessert which was a great combination. The churros were still so nice and warm. Daniel was our server and he was fantastic! Great service! Hope they keep it up. We will be back. Ohhhh and they had Mariachi!!!

Rebekah W.

Yelp
I came here for "Taco Tuesday" because that's what I put in the search bar. When I got there, there was no special "Taco Tuesday," but the ambiance was great so I stayed. I'm happy that I did because the food was really good. I had the fish tacos and they were delicious. Happy hour was still going on so I ordered a mango margarita and a passion fruit margarita, both were delicious, not too strong. If you like strong drinks, maybe you would mention it to the waitress. She was helpful and patient. They make a pineapple tequila in house, that I was afraid of because I already had two drinks, that was also delicious and nothing to be afraid of. All in all it was a great experience. I would go back.

Humberto B.

Yelp
Very great food, had the Mixiote with chicken. Sauce was delicious and the order came with rice and beans. Had a margarita with guava which was a nice touch of both fruit and tequila. Came with friends and family. The ambience was very relaxing and cozy. It was a chili night so we sat indoor. Next time Ill try sitting outdoors for a hot summer day. Happy hour drinks and food were on the menu. We had chips and guacamole with mango which was good in an interesting way. Come hungry I know I will ;)

Yelp
El Maguey (an agave plant) is a smallish neighborhood cafe that offers ATYPICAL, HANDCRAFTED Mexican food in Jackson Heights, tucked among the Colombian, Peruvian and Ecuadorian strip. What I enjoy (beyond the freshness) are the intimate tables for two, vibrant colors on the walls and prompt (not cloying) service. Not sure about peak times, but a GREAT neighborhood place when sparse. Great for a date and wobbly stroll home. Maguey liberally uses real mango, lime and avocado, and they charge a fair price for quality food. If a subway ride costs three bucks...then "fresh food, made well" is priced accordingly. FOOD: "Taco Tuesday" is their famous gambit, with most tacos just $2...Fish & Shrimp cost extra. It's a great way to sample their flavors in a low-risk environment. Three tacos will fill most adults. The meats are moist, the toppings vibrant and napkins are required. DRINK: There is an outdoor seating area, but you are close to noisy Northern Blvd, so there's that. The Margs are flavorful with real ice cubes and pink salt, no mega-sweet slush. Flavors like Pina, Mango & Mezcal are inventive and balanced.

Noe C.

Yelp
Came here for dinner for the first time to try Taco Tuesday and boy we dined well. We started with the chips and guacamole one regular and the other with mango bits. Both were delicious, perhaps more lime would bring out more flavor. Will try the pineapple one next time. For drinks I had el Jarrito Loco, which came with Squirt a traditional Mexican soda. The presentation was cute and the flavors of the soda, tequila and grapefruit juice was delish. I really wanted a Mojito but sticking with tequila was the better choice as we later got margaritas for the table. Our party of six got a mix of things of the menu. Fish tacos were nice and crunchy, mole was on point not too spicy not too sweet. Rice and beans were side platters they tasted pretty good. Veggie quesadilla was good, the grilled zucchini had lots of flavor. Next time Ill try their tortas. For dessert I really enjoyed the Churros, a must if you have a sweet tooth. It was my birthday so the manager was nice enough to give us mini shots as compliments. Cool small place, good vibes, will come back. ****** Came back and was not disappointed. This place rocks. Tradicional music and ambiance with authentic decor. Tried the Watermelon Red Sangria and it was delish for todays hot weather. My Bf had the michiote de pollo which was good for him. And we could not stoop there, we had happy hour tacos for $2 of Pork Carnitas which sent is to food coma with the torta too. Amazing hospitality, manager is very attentive and friendly staff. Totally Recommend it :p

Carmen F.

Yelp
Asked for grilled chicken tacos, and got braised chicken instead, other taco that I got was chorizo, it was okay. Was not impressed and this place did not seem authentic. Quesadilla was awkward, had tons of ingredients which shouldn't be a bad thing but it just didn't work. Sorry Maguey.

Karina A.

Yelp
This restaurant has the best customers services and the best Mexican food and the drinks. I recommend you guys should try the Jarrito loco and the camarones ajillo, entraña rayada, chile relleno y mole poblado. We had the best experience in this restaurant.

Rika M.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place, especially because of the interior design, and because someone recommended it to me. I went here on a Saturday, around noon, and there was no one when we came in (which we thought wasn't such a good sign but we went ahead anyway). We ordered the guacamole which was decent, and the salsa definitely tasted like it was store-bought. What was somehow off-putting was the waitress, who was standing and waiting the whole time while we were deciding what to order. The service was also slow, given that we were the only patrons. She also wasn't that amicable. My man had the chicken special ($20) which the server recommended, and it was served with what seemed to be cold and old rice and beans. I had the vegetarian quesadilla ($10) which was decent and not fresh, and it seemed reheated as some parts of it were not warm. We really loved the churros, however, and it's probably one of the best I ever had. We might have just caught them at a bad time, but first impressions last, and I am not crazy about going back.

Karen M.

Yelp
Was so excited to try this place as it could be an amazing addition to the neighborhood, but the experience was mixed. Hopefully they are still working out the kinks.... Pros: - atmosphere (small, cute and not crazy loud) - cocktails were delicious - staff was nice - main dishes were good (Chicken michote as well as seafood stew were tasty) Cons: - smaller dishes were very bland (fish tacos, beef tacos and rice & beans) - they added in a 20% tip to the bill and they figured that tip on cost of food as well as the taxes and that is a no-no

Sai C.

Yelp
I never like to leave a 3 stars review for a well deserved 5 stars, quality food meal, however I must share this story with all. I went with my family total of 4 people, all Chinese, to try this place for a change of the usual choice of Colombian food around the neighborhood. The staffs are friendly with limited understanding of English and the food was actually delicious. So why they get a 3 stars from me.... First, as we went in the vibe was awkward because we were the only non Spanish speaking customers there. Although the staffs did a good job greeting us, when we need specific items and we did wave, no response for 10 minutes. To sum it all at the end, we spent about 15 minutes to get the check and paid. Summary: if you are non Spanish, don't try this place. Otherwise you will be just fine.

Davide C.

Yelp
Great food and great drinks! I was there with my family having a wonderful time. Service was beautiful and the food espectacular. Drinks were great! Nice happy hour with $2 tacos all day. Wow! I'll be coming back soon! Try the mole enchiladas and the churros for dessert! Of course some Mezcal Margaritas too!

David L.

Yelp
I have been here three times and ordered delivery 3 times. I have not experienced one time when it was excellent. Owner is cook and dishwasher!! Staff is always super super friendly. I am a foodie and need to experience great service. I highly recommend this place. Though it is small it's very comfortable. Small parties are ideal and most likely will have my birthday here.

Fernando P.

Yelp
This is a delicious gem of a quaint, down home, picturesque Jackson Heights spot. My ceviche was succulent, 'the Maguey' beverage was exquisite and strong. Cant wait for my pork tacos to come out. This is one of the few, perhaps only, spot with outdoor seating in the hood so definitely a welcome find. The service was warm and attentive. Will be back fa sho.

Katherine I.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious! All of the staff was extremely polite and welcoming. They really wanted their customers to feel comfortable and enjoy their meal. I had the vegetarian quesadillas and the sopa azteca both of which were great and very filling. Mom has the enchiladas chango leon (chicken) and enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone who wants a nice, cozy place to dine for lunch or dinner.

Katherine S.

Yelp
The service is good and the ambience but the food did not have a good Mexican flavor. The price of the guacamole is too high for the portion they serve. $12
