The Best Breakfast Tacos and Burritos in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"El Mero Mero roughly translates to “the best” and has specialized in bulk orders of tamales to-go for 40 years. The restaurant also serves made-to-order breakfast tacos on slightly dense homemade flour tortillas. The bean and cheese taco features simmered pinto beans, rather than refried, for a pleasurable chew. Fresh pico de gallo livens up the chorizo and bacon tacos, too." - Henry James Ferry

My family and I visit here all the time. Constantly the best breakfast tacos in the area. The flour tortillas are amazing! This place has become a staple for us to visit for family outings and the staff have treated us with neighborly love at all times

I love coming to El Mero Mero! The staff here are helpful and friendly. JJ is the best! I’ve come here during the week and on weekends and every visit brings me back for more! Amazing food, with great prices, they also have the best burritos I have found since moving to Texas. Definitely 10 out of 10 HIGHLY recommend!

If I could give you less stars I would. As a student, a Dallasite, and a local patron of The Farmers Market for years, it hurts me to have to acknowledge the racism that Vanessa at Tamalero displayed at 5:10pm today. Apparently, myself and three other patrons were guilty of being Black on a Monday for too long and she reported us after having zero provocation. We asked neighboring vendors and they confirmed that our months of visitation have led to zero issues. They also confirmed that people of lighter complexion have been allowed to sit for hours with zero complaints. It's disheartening to think that in my city brown skin Hispanic people are being racist towards their Black skin cousins. It's sad. I wouldn't want any other Black patrons to attend this location and be slapped in the face with Vanessa's negative demeanor. Skin color is not a choice, but Vanessa's behavior very much is. Thankfully this behavior has not been experienced in any other shops at the Dallas Farmers Market. Please enjoy other vendors happily.

I had to be in downtown Dallas and I came across the Farmers Market and inside are shops and eateries. El Mero Famalero had one of the best Big Baritos I have had in a while. The flavor of the chicken with the beans and Pico was OMG. Hungry put this place on your list!😃😃😃

Google
Great location and atmosphere but the tamales are horrible. The taste and they literally just fell apart as soon as you unwrap them. If you don’t mind driving try Tommy Tamales in Grapevine!!!

Google
Great food and service every time I’m there. This is my go to Tex Mex spot in that area of Dallas.

Google
DO NOT WASTE your time /money with so many other decent places nearby. The chicken in my taco was dry, and likely cooked earlier in the week. There were no diced tomatoes. The cilantro was wilted. The salsa was, I suspect repackaged store bought salsa. This place is terrible. The people working there could care less about the customers, they were laughing and joking with friends who working at another booth...... uggggh.... I wished I would have checked Google Maps before I ordered.

Google
I was so disappointed I should’ve read the reviews. I was so upset the food came out cold and dry. The rice taste like paste and the beans were dry and hard. The tamales are thick and needs more seasoning. Taco Bueno tamales are better than theirs. If you have experience with Mexican food than you have some basic standard. They are literally selling can Mexican food as is no twist. In the photo is what i turned in two bites off the chicken tamale, the other tamale pulled out the shell with full serving of all other items. Instead of taking feed back you try and find something wrong with the customer. The food is nasty and the are several others to vouch my opinion.

Yelp
Very tasty food at a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and professional. I really enjoyed the tamales - super fresh, no greasy and tasted familiar to the homemade tamales I've familiar with through friends and family. I also had the shredded chicken nachos. Next time I want to try the fajita nachos for extra flavor.

Yelp
Breakfast taco with rotten potatoes are a great way to screw up the morning. Even more fun is their requirement that you have to order a minimum of 2 tacos. Twice the amount of crap. Restaurants just don't care at all anymore. I'm all for supporting mom and pop places but if my mom served me food like this, I would have run away from home.
google avatar

Yelp
I wish I would've read the reviews before trying this place out. I was very disappointed in the tacos. The chicken was so dry and bland, on top of that, they were cold. I'm not sure what kind of cheese they used but it had a taste as thought it was spoiled. Only received 2 stars because the worker was pleasant and the location.

Yelp
Unfortunately this is one of the few places at the farmers market to avoid. I just got the street taco plate. There were no onions and cilantro on them and it tasted like the meat had zero salt. Tortillas were bland. Rice and beans mediocre. Service was fast and friendly and keeping up with a very busy day. That's why they're getting 2 stars instead of just one.

Yelp
When visiting the Dallas Farmers Market with my family a few weeks ago, my sister and I picked El Mero Mero for our meal. I got the pozole rojo, which was really good. My sister had the tamale plate. The tamales were standard/average - maybe a little dry - so the flavors could have been boosted up a bit. I would eat the pozole again, but probably not the tamales. A decent place for lunch if you're in the Farmers Market and are craving some Mexican classics though!

Yelp
Visiting from NYC Wanted to like this place. Was so excited to try tamales in Texas. Food: it was 3/4 pm on a Friday. I tried to order 4 different things but they were out of it which is really dissapointing. Even more disspaoting is that they only sell their tamales in bulk. How can you promote tamales and only serve them in bulk? I could t buy them bc i was flying out soon and would t finish eating all of them before leaving. I ended up ordering a basic mozzarella cheese quesadilla. Small nothing amazing. It did have slot of cheese which i appreciated and served with a mild salsa that was a very spicy mild. I ordered a drink as well which was okay not very strong. Service: server was extremely friendly and chatty. I feel bad not giving a great review bc the service is great! She tried really hard to accommodate my wants even though they were out of mostly everything. Price: was okay a little much for the size of the quesadilla and o my being cheese. Ambiance: their store front is attractive and in front of seating area that have chargers. So it was convinient to sit by there. I loved the chalk board menu. Very colorful.

Yelp
We stopped here to grab a mangonada and a michelada to explore the farmers market with. My fiancé loved the michelada and said it was one of the best he's had. I liked my mangonada as well but the ratio of mango margarita to chamoy was off. My drink was super sour and overpowered with chamoy but was better once the slush melted down a bit.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! the food is great and the cashier/cook is super cute. Ask for JayJay.

Yelp
I wanted to purchase one bean and jalapeño tamale, to try it, before purchasing many. That was not an option. We were given the option to buy a half dozen, a dozen or a plate that comes with 3 of your choosing. We ordered two plates. I chose 2 bean and 1 pork. My husband chose 2 pork and 1 chicken. The rice and beans were better than the tamales and that's being nice. The pork were the better of the 3 options but not great. Chicken was bland and a hard solid piece rather than seasonably shredded which I'm used to eating. The bean and jalapeño came out feeling undercooked because the masa was sticky and not solid as it should be. Very disappointing. I threw away my full drink of horchata because it was just horrible. Not pleasant at all. What a waste of money.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. Always made fresh and fast . Amazing custom Service thanks J.J. And Vanessa Anna

Yelp
Whenever I'm near the Farmer's Market, this is my first stop. Last visit I was welcomed by the greeting "Do you have any questions?" - How cool to invite the dialogue first thing. I wasn't quite hungry enough for the three tamales, so opted for two tacos. I opted for corn tortillas, and loved the fresh salsa. Service was friendly as always. And now I'm thinking about picking up a bunch of tamales for holiday dinner...

Yelp
Food is delicious and service was great!! Located in the Dallas Farmers Market. A fun location and atmosphere!

Yelp
Wow this was such a disappointing waste of time and money. I bought a dozen chicken tamales and wow these tamales are horrible. Seriously, I tried to eat two and ended up throwing out the whole dozen. They are super dry and bland. The chicken is tough. The husk is all embedded into the masa. I should have looked at the Yelp reviews before I bought them. Looking back, it should have been a red flag that at the Farmer's Market when a place refuses to give samples it's probably a bad sign. There are so many good places at the Farmer's Market, just pick something else. If you want tamales, just grab anything from a TV dinner and it will be a better choice.

Yelp
Great Name...El Mero Mero Tamalero! Regulars at the Dallas Farmers Market, we were excited to try. We ordered a Taco Platillo & Flautas. Unfortunately the food was dry and bland, so we asked for additional seasoning and more sour cream. Disappointed that they where standoffish and could not accommodate a small request. Declared it would be an additional cost. We had already paid with our credit card, and had no change available. Just want to say good customer service goes a long way. Left with a bad taste and will never return. So many better food stalls to try at the Farmers Market.

Lily T.

Yelp
HORRIBLE TAMALES if you're ever in Dallas don't go to this place. The Tamales are horrible super dry, bland, and even stale. Looks like they've been there for a while. Never ever going back.

Helen H.

Yelp
The tamales was very bland, Beans was dry, Rice was very good, But the thing that bothered me the most was the delivery to my door the food was all mixed together messy It had been tilted. Oh! and the chips Tasted old Maybe that's because they were gluten free I don't know, first time tasteing gluten free chips.

Yelp
My Mom was so excited when see saw a veggie option in their tamales. As a vegetarian, our options are lacking. They do not offer samples, which honestly most tamales I buy at any market do. The tamales were $7.50 for half a dozen and came with a good size salsa. The salsa was authentic and very good. It was spicy- even the mild version. The veggie tamales contained corn, potatoes, peas, and bell peppers from what I could see. We arrived at 11 for lunch and they were steaming hot, wrapped in foil packages. I was a little disappointed when I opened my first tamale. The color is not appealing. My suegras tamales do not have that bland color- so it was off putting. The masa broke when I opened the husk with all but one tamale. So each tamale broke into pieces. It smelled nice and had a decent flavor. Some masa was chunkier in places, so the veggie to masa ratio was a little off. I don't believe that these tamales are anything to write home about but they are a good meal for every now and again. Also, the staff members were both very kind to me.

Yelp
The highlight of my weekend trip to Dallas. Spent some time there on Sunday May 19th. Decided I wanted some Tamales. I got the Tamale Plate with one chicken, one pork, and one jalapeño pork. Came with rice, beans, chips and salsa. Everything was amazing. The taste of the pork tamales were sooooo good. I wish I could have brought some back to Tampa, FL with me.

Yelp
This is a nice spot tucked in the Farmer's Market. I came with my sister, niece and nephew. We had the tamales (beef and pork), chicken quesadilla plate, and sausage and egg breakfast tacos. The tacos were only decent since the meat was a bit dry. The quesadilla was good with an abundance of cheese. The tamales were what you would expect although there wasn't a discernible flavor profile between the bed and pork. The true star of the show though are the beans. Omg those beans were amazing! It honestly made the tamale plate worth it. I accidentally spilled spicy hot sauce in them and it may have been the best mistake (I recommend you not put too much though ). Overall, a good spot for a quick bite.
google avatar

Breena L.

Yelp
Food was super bland and there was a bug in my pickled cabbage. Absolutely not worth it
google avatar

Asia W.

Yelp
The churro sat this place are freaking AMAZING! Omg I'm so in love with them. I only eat bean and cheese tamales so I've been stalking them to catch them on a day when they have them. I just moved back to the area so I'll update once I try a tamale but the chicken quesadillas were really great too. Everything is reasonably priced for a great filling and not too heavy lunch. Definitely one of my favorite places in the farmers market.
google avatar

Marvella C.

Yelp
I got the tamale plate and I was severely disappointed. I actually chucked almost the entire plate in the trash. I love tamales and I love homemade Mexican food, so I was sad when this venture did not pan out. I got on chicken, one beef, and one pork which none were flavorful. No flavor to the masa and the meat was also lacking any spice or seasoning. I was still trying hooping that maybe the rice and beans would be delicious. Once again sadly mistaken. The beans treated straight out of a can, no extra love. The rice was bland as well. I love this Farmers Market Area but I would bit recommend any one who has had real homemade Mexican to expect any type of that flavor here.
google avatar

Andrew V.

Yelp
This is one of those places I'm glad I didn't read the reviews beforehand. This is definitely a place you want to try. Their pork tamales are actually really good! I've heard other versions aren't so much, but I'm glad I asked which flavor is considered best. Also the spicy salsa you can add makes things even better. I destroyed a 1/2 dozen of them, and will definitely go back.
google avatar

Karla A.

Yelp
The tamales had a good taste but the masa was bland so it didn't provide a lot of flavor. The meat itself had good flavor, they should add flavor to the masa.
google avatar

Yelp
These people are buggin'. This is a fine establishment that is inside a poppin' venue. The SUPREME burrito was aptly named. I must have gained 20 lbs after eating it, because the LimeBike couldn't support my weight coming home, and it broke. I'm not a TexMex connesiour (I took that phrase from the people sitting next to me after I asked them how the tamales were) but I thoroughly enjoyed this burrito that was the size of a small child. The mixture of flavors between the beans, rice, sour cream, and barbacoa put me into a FLAVOR WHIRLWIND. I'll probably try some other restaurant at the Farmer's Market next time, but this spot was dope.
google avatar

De Amber P.

Yelp
After reading the reviews, I was a little skeptical but I was fairly surprised how good it was. I ordered combination nachos chicken and beef but they actually ran out of beef (fajita and ground). So I asked can they do barbacoa even though it was on the menu, and they did and actually gave me a decent deal on them. Meat was good but it was missing a little seasoning. And the cheese was just simple cheese that's given to you at ball parks, movie theaters, etc. But over all it was good. I would go back and try other things on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
For a place that almost but pretty much has the word "tamale" in the name, this was a huge let down. I came on Saturday morning and saw that they had a small line forming, which is why I thought this place would be good because long line = good food, well not in this case. I only wanted 1 tamale to try, but they only offer them in 1/2 dozen, dozen, or the 3 tamale plate. I opted for the tamale plate and tried one of each (pork, beef, and chicken). Overall they came out half warm, and had me regretting my choice of getting food here. The tamales from my local Mexican meat market were 10x better than the ones here, and I get better service. My advice - go elsewhere, in an area surrounded with a TON of food choices, this is a pass.
google avatar

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on a weekend at brunch time. Overall good, quick, friendly experience. Was about to try a few tacos when I spotted the "available weekends only" posole, so went with that. Lots of meat, tasty broth, but could have been spicier (for my tastes). Was a great reminder of the posole from New Mexico when I lived there decades ago. Yum!
google avatar

Yelp
Really great value lunch in the heart of downtown Dallas right by the Farmers Market! I had been wandering around the Farmers Market area earlier that morning and saw some employees making the tamales from scratch, so I had them on my mind all morning. I came back there for lunch when it was time to feed. I paid 8 bucks for some 3 really yummy tamales, Mexican rice, refried beans, and a whole bag of tortilla chips and salsa. I had two chicken jalapeno tamales and one beef tamale. The chicken jalapeno tamales had great flavor but were a little dry in comparison to the beef. But that's the difference between chicken and beef, so you should expect that. Definitely recommend you try this place out! I would go back for the great value and authentic flavors.
google avatar

Jose A.

Yelp
Rude and slow service. They charge for things they tell you are free. An 8 dollar burrito ended up around 14.50 after said add on. The food is decent but la ventana does a better job for a cheaper price.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Been coming here for a little over a year. The food is really great--when you can get it. Our favorite is the sausage breakfast tacos, but for some reason they always run out. I mean, I understand if it happens once...but the past 4 times I've come they are sold out of sausage tacos before 10am. Seems like tonedeaf management. If you're stocking out of sausage tacos. Make more. You've lost 4 sales just from me. And it's not like they're creating some buzz of scarcity. The sausage (they told me) comes from Sams. So, let's make a Sams run and buy more taco supplies guys.
google avatar

Miguel G.

Yelp
Me and my friend were at the farmers market and decided to try out this place on Saturday morning. She had the pozole and I had the half dozen of tamales. WhatI hate about the tamales that if you buy a half a dozen they come prepackaged in single flavors so you cant mix-and-match. We sat down at the tables and we soon realized that the pozole was way too spicy we couldn't even finish it.The tamales were not too bad but they were a little blend. The service was good and fast, its more of a fast-food type place.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
My family loves tamales, so when I decided to serve the dozen chicken tamales I bought everyone was so excited. They were soooo dry and there was absolutely no flavor. Such a big disappointment. That was money down the drain.
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
Not a place I'll go twice. Tried two different tacos, best thing was the corn tortilla chicken fajita taco on special. Green or red Salsa has no flavor or heat. Potato egg cheese breakfast taco on flour tortilla was a joke, not enough potatoes or egg to speak of :(. And they need a sign that says 45minute wait, super slow!! Did not try the tamales....and will not be. ‍
google avatar

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Probably should've read the yelp reviews before ordering, but definitely agree with a lot of the previous reviews. Got a chicken, beef, and pork tamale, and was thoroughly disappointed by all three. There wasn't a lot of meat in each tamale, and the meat was flavorless and dry. The tamales weren't very warm and the sauce didn't really add any flavor. The only decent thing about this meal were the chips were crispy and tasted decent. Would definitely recommend any of the other places in the Farmer's Market over this place.
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
I'm pretty mad at myself for ordering tamales and then checking the Yelp rating. Shame on me. This spot inside the Dallas Farmers Market was sub par. The vegetable tamale appears to be filled with frozen veg, the pork in the pork tamale was dry, and the accompanying salsa tasted watered down. The black bean and jalapeno tamale was okay, but it was nothing to write home about. I couldn't justify finishing my plate. Given all the other options in the Dallas Farmers Market, my suggestion is that you skip El Mero Mero Tamalero.
google avatar

Juan A.

Yelp
Had a burrito with chicken fajitas it was alright. Prices where decent the meal came with stale chips. They are known for their tamales so I'll have to try those another time to give a better rating
google avatar

Alejandro O.

Yelp
Chief called--he said this definitely ain't it. Hands down the least appetizing tamales I've had here in Dallas. Most times I can shrug off a bad meal, but this is on a different level. The chicken tamales were completely devoid of flavor, and the red had a hint of sweetness that accentuated the awkwardness of the taste. The "queso" was canned liquid cheese with some tomato and jalapeño thrown in. The tostadas came in a ziploc bag. Is that really a valid point of contention? On its own, no but it just serves to punctuate the experience. Stay away. Have some Taco Bell instead.
google avatar

Samantha T.

Yelp
While visiting Farmers Market my friend and I decided to eat here. We got pozole and tamales... now I am Mexican and I love spicy food which means I can handle my spiciness on food, well the pozole was extremely spicy, not even able to finish it as it was burning spicy not the level at all of a regular pozole. It would've been nice if they told you before hand that it was really spicy. Tamales were just ok, I've had better!

Esmeralda R.

Yelp
I am very disappointed with this location I ordered some Fajita nachos which they claim to have sour cream, pico de Gallo, & guacamole... I did ask for cheese on the side & all my nachos came with was the meat ... the nacho chips were very stale not sure if it was due to them being an old batch or them being left out. I also ordered the tamales which weren't even cooked all the way the Masa was still uncooked. If I could give this place a 0 star I WOULD! I am very DISAPPOINTED & DEFINITELY NOT SATISFIED!
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
I stopped by on a rainy Sunday morning and got some tamales to go. No other customers were there so early, but they had a few workers there. The tamales are not made with lard so they are veg-head friendly. I got half a dozen veggie tamales for only $7. They have corn, green beans, carrots, and potatoes, and peas and maybe a couple other ingredients. The tamales seemed to have quite a bit of dough compared to filling, but it was tasty and I enjoyed it. The salsa is fresh tasting too-they have. It's hot and mild to choose from. The mild is pretty spicy for mild. Both salsas are good. They have breakfast tacos, many different lunch plates to choose from, and a couple of weekend options including barbacoa and menudo. There is also beer and churros for dessert. The workers were cordial but not super friendly. They answered any questions I had. I look forward to returning to try some other options!

Mike H.

Yelp
This place is terrible. Cold food and stale chips. We we're going to purchase a Michelada and asked if we could taste the mix. They told us it was homemade and they didn't do samples!? It's not a sample! No one is going to buy a mixed drink without knowing the ingredients. Never coming back and I'll be telling others to avoid this place. Go to La Ventana down the way.
google avatar

Tashi M.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I wasn't happy with my tamales. They were a bit too dry, especially the beef Tamale. They also didn't have much flavor. The pork Tamale was the best of the three (pork, chicken, beef). The beans that came with the order were way too salty and vinegary tasting. I couldn't eat it. The rice was very good though. The service was excellent. I hope they make changes to their bean recipe. I'm not a picky eater, but i couldn't eat it.

Emma N.

Yelp
Dense and flavorless tamales. Tried 3 different combos, chicken, pork with jalapeño and bean with jalapeño. Not so much! Surprised they have lasted this long. Don't bother, other options at Farmers Market, especially on weekends.
google avatar

Hayden B.

Yelp
Sadly, I concur with most of the reviews here. The tamales were "meh" at best and the beans/rice were oddly inauthentic. I ordered two spicy pork tamales and one beef and I could hardly tell the difference between them. The best part of the meal were the chips and salsa it came with and that's saying something. I won't eat here again when I'm at the Farmers Market.

Paula S.

Yelp
just now It's the only place in Dallas where we buy our tamales. Great price, great food, great service.
google avatar

Isaac H.

Yelp
These tamales were interesting. I had a chicken one, a chicken and jalapeño, and a beef one. They were pretty good taste wise, but dry. That's why I'm only giving it three stars, it was very dry and I was told that most tamales have sauce drizzled over them to offset that. The churros were very good and so was the rice that came with. The beans were not bad, and the chips were mediocre. They looked very appetizing but when I tried them I was a little underwhelmed. Overall, id probably only come back to get a churro.
google avatar

Joshua E.

Yelp
Yuck...yuck...yuck. The tamales were so greasy and completely bland. The grease from the tamales soaked through the bag they were in. You'd think with that much grease the tamales wouldn't be dry... think again. We ordered the pork tamales and the meat was so dry you couldn't chew it.
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
I would give this place zero starts if I could. Rice and beans were disgusting, and as I tried to make it through trying the tamales I just couldn't get through even one because it was cold and the whole plate was so unappetizing. My family ordered the barbaco tacos and the tortillas were soaked in grease from how greasy the meat was. 3 hours later and we have stomachaches (hopefully that's all). STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!
