Skinny super burritos, fish tacos & colorful vibe
"The burritos at this Mission taqueria are longer and thinner than some of the other burritos in town. But we’re not complaining, they’re exceptional. Order the super burrito with asada or chicken—the meat is consistently juicy, the tortilla is soft and pillowy, and the salsa is smoky. Each burrito comes with a generous heap of guacamole and sour cream. Eat it at one of their tables outside, pair it with a watermelon agua fresca, and bask in all their glory." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1, lani conway
"El Metate is one of our go-to spots for a Mission burrito. It’s also where we go when we want to sip a fantastic horchata between every mouthful of smoky carne asada. While lesser horchatas can be too sweet and chalky, this one is light and velvety, and made with what we’re guessing is a bundle of cinnamon that you could see from space. You may want to order two since you’ll finish the first one before your burrito even arrives." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez
"There are a lot of great taquerias in San Francisco. But if you don’t have much time for lunch between virtual meetings, and need a quick reminder of what fresh air feels like, one great option is El Metate. This Mexican restaurant in the Mission has a colorful sidewalk patio that gets plenty of sun, where you can enjoy tacos, quesadillas, or tortas. But the real all-star order is their super burrito with carnitas or carne asada, which is one of the best in the city." - julia chen 1, lani conway
"El Metate’s burritos are skinnier and lengthier than most, helping them stand out from the pack visually — as they also do in quality. Unlike some taquerias’ meatless offerings, El Metate’s vegetarian burrito is packed with vegetables, making it a hit with plant-preferring crowd. For something out of the ordinary, try a chicken mole or chile verde burrito." - Lauren Saria
