The second restaurant I was treated to for my birthday was El Mazcalito Mexican Grill. I will admit I have eaten here before, but it seems their menu was overhauled. Before, their food was very similar to that one Mexican restaurant just west of Melbourne Square Mall, the one that is not El Chicos.
Starting with the ambiance, you can still see a lot of what the restaurant used to be still present in the space. For those who don't know, the space used to be Outback Family Steakhouse. That changed when the restaurant moved west on Palm Bay Rd. to a more visual location.
The booths, tables, floors, and even setup haven't changed much, but there are touches of decor added, showing the place is a Mexican restaurant now. The wall mural is definitely a nice touch.
Service was very good and our waiter was very kind. He was able to give us a decent amount of attention as it was a Sunday night and at that time, I would assume most people would be getting ready for the following day.
Finally, the food was your Tex-Mex fare but it was all delicious. Two of us ordered a Pick-3 Combo in which I ordered the chile rellano, burrito, and tamale and my mom ordered the burrito, quesidilla, and enchilada. As for the rest of the family, we ordered a chimichanga and a special dish known as steak Americano.
We even indulged in a dessert too. Apparently, my family had some kind of churro that blew their taste buds so they thought they try the one here. It was delicious and the presentation was fancy, but it was your typical churro. That's not bad but it didn't stand out compared to other churros you can find sold by street vendors.
Overall, a solid outing at a good Mexican restaurant. I don't think it really stands out right now as my first time was far more interesting. Still, if I want some good Tex-Mex and this restaurant is nearby, I will drop on in.
