El Mofongo Ahogao shares a building with Buxeda Funeral Home. Don't worry, this isn't a Sweeny Todd type of operation... at least, I hope not. What gives the restaurant it's name is it's signature dish, the mofongo ahogao (drowning mofongo). It is a mofongo "drowning" in homemade chicken stock. It comes with a piece of chicharrón on top and the option of a side of avocado. It is super delicious. One of the best mofongos I have ever had.
The rest of the menu is your standard criollo menu, with items such as carne frita, churrasco, biftec, sandwiches, etc... It is all mostly good. A big miss for me were the fish tacos. I can't say for sure if it was a new addition to the menu or a special, but I am a fish taco guy, so when I see fish tacos on a menu I want to try them. They were among the worst fish tacos I've ever had. All being said, the real reason to come here is for the mofongo ahogao. They also serve breakfasts.
The restaurant is not very big. Parking is shared with the funeral home and flower shop that share the building.
