The Best Late-Night Phoenix Eats

"Beloved by ASU students and late-night construction workers alike, El Paisano has been a Tempe staple for years. Colloquially known as El P’s, the casual deli-style establishment offers updated classics like a Hot Cheeto quesadilla, carne asada fries, and a Fiji burrito which consists of cheese, pineapple, avocado, tater tots, pico, and salsa. Don’t expect a life-changing meal at El P’s, but their kitchen is open until 3 a.m. every day, perfect to satisfy those post late-night study session cravings." - Mcconnell Quinn

Been here 3 times last month. Loved the chicken tacos with the birria! They were so helpful and kind to give us chicken birria tacos. Loved the freshness of the burritos!

Google
I love this spot! There are so many options. The tacos I got were fantastic. The food is really good quality and at a really good price. All the people who worked there were nice as well. I highly recommend

Google
I love the quesadilla! Large portion size it lasts me two meals. Great value for how much food you get. I have tried chicken and steak, both are good but I prefer steak! This most recent time they didn’t get all the ingredients I requested in my online order, but the past few times they did. (That’s the reason it’s not 5 stars). Also, the beans are pinto beans (not refried).

Wow just absolutely delicious. I work uber eats and always pick up from here, with the smell of the food always lingering in my car making me drool .. ... I had to try. Highly satisfied. The workers are my absolute favorite and made me look forward to picking up from there given the fast friendly service. Highly content customer. Highly recommend and will happily continue delivering this mouth watering food!!

Google
Authentic Mexican tacos with a reasonable price. The man who made my tacos was super friendly, so as the cashier. Portion was good. Definitely I’ll go back to try something else.

Guy working the register tonight is a total tool. Terrible customer service. All the merchandise is overpriced - to the point of price gouging. The least you can do is not be a a hole d bag. Lost a long term customer forever and ill tell everyone i know to go elsewhere.

Google
Seriously get the fries and add chicken or carne asada and load them up with all the toppings you want and it's sooo much food you can share with another person and it's about $13 I'm obsessed with these right now

Google
This stop is a liquor store that tries to have a kitchen in it. I ordered a burrito with spice the burrito was so spicy I couldn't eat the whole thing also didn't make my burrito correctly, missing items. Not the best.

Yelp
Came here a lot in the past for midnight burritos and fries and came here tonight for a burrito and honestly it was the worst ever!! I ordered the shrimp burrito and the shrimp did not have any taste for what so ever. I said no beans and there were the bell peppers and onions used to be cooked with the shrimp with seasoning but there was nothing as I watched and no oil. The rice tasted bland and I asked for 2 limes and the cook didn't squeeze out 2 but instead only did 1 i mentioned to the front that the bell peppers weren't cooked as I mentioned and they said to the cook that made my burrito that it's normally done like that and the cook laughed at me and rolled his eyes at me. Like dude if I'm paying for fries and a fucking burrito to have the cook do shit work. Please do hire me as I've worked in the food industry for 20 years and this by far was the worst experience ever!! No taste very bland Worst experience Bring back the old cook and get rid of this new cook

Yelp
There I was, intently focused and excitedly engaged in a conversation when they said I seem to only eat burritos that don't contain meat. I was appalled...but based on my love of bean and cheese burritos I could understand their perception. A decision needed to be made: I would get either a breakfast burrito or a California Burrito after work. I made a promise..... El Paisano Market....a check cashing/liquor store that has really good Mexican food!! I just barely book marked this place so I was excited to experience it. You order at the food counter and when it's done, you walk over to the front cash register to pay for it. All seating is outside. Those who made the food and the guy at the register were super nice! I got the California Burrito w/ jalapeños. No lie, it was ginormous! The meat was a tad dry, but had lots of flavor and the other ingredients made up for it...especially the added jalapeños. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'm gonna hit it again for sure, even if it's just to have an excuse to let my friend know my burrito palette is diverse :)

Yelp
I recently had a fantastic experience! The food was absolutely amazing, and the customer service was both professional and friendly. They have everything you need and a great selection of items. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Best carne asada fries ever. You can choose chicken or beef and customize your toppings. BIG serving size. Fresh ingredients. Highly recommend you try the carne asada fries or the El Paisano burrito.

Yelp
Best Birria Tacos in this area! :) I used to live so close, and now I'm regretting why I didn't come eat here earlier!! First of all, I was very impressed by how they keep the place so clean, I could see their super clean, shining kitchen - it was awesome to see the kitchen this clean. And the food. OMG!!! So so so good. It's like the best birria taco I've ever had in Tempe. And they put pretty good amount of meat and fillings, ahhh I'm drooling now. I'll def come back here more often!

Yelp
Owners are so nice . Guys at cash register always so friendly ! LADIES AT THE FOOD COUNTER - NOT NICE NOW, Women make "small" portions , can't speak English ..NOT friendly Don't buy food here..waste of $$$ There used to be a tall guy at the food counter) ..made the best food with generous portions .

Gail C.

Yelp
It was close to 11pm and I wanted to get something to eat real quick, but didn't want to travel far. I was hanging out at a friend's place, and this place was right across the street, walking distance. So, it sounded like a good idea to me. My friend and I walked across the street and there was a good amount of ppl shopping here. I guess everyone else had the munchies too lol I looked over the menu and decided to get some chicken tenders. Something fast and filling. The menu had some interesting items on it, like the Takis Quesadilla. I definitely want to try in the near future! But, the chicken tenders were great! I was kinda hesitant to get the tenders from a Mexican restaurant, but it was pretty good! The fries were great too! They seasoned the fries and tenders with seasoning salt. I was also given ketchup, ranch, and hot sauce on the side. I would've loved to get the tenders tossed in the hot sauce. But, I don't know if they do that or not. But, then again, I didn't ask... Nonetheless, I really enjoyed my tenders and fries, and that ranch was to fire af! Aside from a quick bite to eat, this place is also a liquor store! So, you can get good food and liquor/wine! That's a win, win to me! I think you can buy Lotto tickets too! Overall, I really enjoyed my visit here, and I will definitely be back to stop by in the near future!

Yelp
I love all the raza in this mf on Gracie's n nem keep up the fresh food ! Food fucked up my stomach but I'll be back try something different with hot Cheetos and shrimp and get a big bottle of alcohol with it !

Michael J.

Yelp
Usually, this is a really good place but tonight exceedingly failed. I placed an order for the Carne Asada fries. Not only did they place everything on there without even asking for substitutions. We didn't even get the chance to ask for things off. (For allergy purposes) We felt extremely closed off and have came here for years to give business. Sad :(

Yelp
1st place in Tempe to sell Happy Dad seltzer! This drink is famous from the Nelk Boys videos Favorites were the watermelon, pineapple and lemon lime! Would be cool if they came out with a citrus flavor for summer

Yelp
The main register guy that work upfront during the day rude asf for no reason. I've been coming to this store for over 3 years for the food only!!! They need new management cause I'm getting tired of his ugly attitude. GET HIM FIRED!!! ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!!

Yelp
Burritos as big as your head! This corner shop in a tiny little shopping center with a shawarma restaurant and Chen's Noodle House is a blend of Mexican fast food, convenience store and bong shop. While the store looks drab and dingy on the outside it was a pleasant surprise to step inside and see that while it was a bit cramped from stocking as much as they could in a small space, everything was very tidy and well kept. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that there is good A/C and ventilation here for such a small space selling freshly grilled greasy gustatory delights. No need to worry about emanating eau de burrito after ordering here! The menu here has a mix of Mexican food and some American classics like burgers and chicken wings. I was craving a breakfast burrito so I ordered that with chicken. It's basically a regular burrito but they stick a few griddled eggs in it. After the huge tortilla, meat and eggs were cooked on the griddle, I got to choose my fillings. Selections include pico de gallo, cilantro, onions, 3 different salsas, sour cream, corn, cheese and lettuce. The cook then wrapped it all up. My jaw dropped when I saw the size of my mega burrito. It barely fit into the styrofoam container! I was curious so I weighed it afterwards, along with a pasiano burrito we also ordered. The chicken breakfast burrito was over 1.5 lbs and the paisano burrito was nearly 2 lbs! The taste was pretty good. They pack so much stuff in that tortilla! Unfortunately the corn I requested was scooped into my burrito with all the liquid it was sitting in so it ended up being a bit soggy when I ate it at home, and got soggier over time. The eggs were nice and fluffy and the chicken was a very generous portion though. The other nice aspect of this shop is that it's open until 2 AM, so go get your late night giganto burrito here!

Yelp
Yeah I'd skip this place. Not only did they butcher what I ordered, but I found a nice and nasty hair surprise. Does this look like the El Trumparito? I just wanted Buffalo chicken :/

Yelp
A small liquor store with grill in rear for takeout only. Some of the offerings are OK and authentic but don't be fooled by the carne Asada offerings. This is a Middle Eastern market that offers Mexican food options. There is no carne Asada although the menu said so. It's roast chopped up and chicken so you name your burrito and you get beef or chicken. Obviously caters to out-of-town students who are not familiar with Carne Asada, el Pastor, chili, Verde, etc. I might add the grill cook is not too friendly or helpful, he does not appreciate questions about the menu. Highlight is bean and cheese burrito

Yelp
Excellent tasty food, tons of options and every dish is yummy. Try their tacos and stake quesadilla you will Love it. They are halal too.

Yelp
The exterior is unassuming, but this place is a goldmine! It's my most frequented restaurant by far. I've postmated this place over 50 times this year (pandemic vibes), but came here every week as a college student too. The food is amazing. The street tacos are delicious--fresh ingredients, delicately cooked meat, and super light tortillas. The burritos have the same ingredients but in a bigger portion with thicker tortilla. My friends who eat fish & chips say this is some of the best they've had, so don't sleep on that either. Out of the hundreds of meals I've had here, there's never been a single problem. You can grab any snack/drink you'd find at a corner store on the side. They're even open until 3am for maximum convenience. The workers there have always been extremely kind, which is crazy because I assume they deal with some pretty wacky clientele regularly. Any reviews stating otherwise might have had something lost in translation (it can get really loud and hectic inside, and there's a glass barrier over the food which makes it harder for them to hear you). If you're anywhere nearby and craving Mexican, I would recommend this place first. 10/10 P.S. The green salsa is so fucking hot, so maybe start with the red salsa if you're not a beast

Yelp
We were not expecting much, walking past, and new to the area, but man oh man, what a pleasant surprise! It is spotless, first and foremost. From the till, to the shelves, to the chef's cooking station- and I'm a bit of a paranoid bird when it comes to these things. The gentlemen working here, both the one manning the till and the chef, were super, super-nice, and very sweet to our service dog![so I have no idea how someone here found them rude or offensive] And finally the food. Again- we were not expecting magic, but we were wrong. We got burritos- huge, delicious, fresh, oozing magical lime and salsa and omg. So.good. Soooooooo delicious. Like best burrito, I've had in years. And I know my burritos if nothing else in life. Excellent selection of snacks, drinks, and chargers, cords, etc. Great place.

Yelp
I love El P's! I come every weekend for a veggie burrito. The beans and rice are vegetarian and it's delicious. My bf gets the fish tacos and they're massive and so yummy!

Levi B.

Yelp
Great customer service, very friendly and amazing atmosphere. Good food too. Always go here, I love El P's

Yelp
Best market on the planet! Kindest workers and are always willing to give a helping hand

Yelp
This is the best store in Tempe, everyone who works here is so much fun and cool, they're open later than any other store and they always have anything I'm looking for. AND they have the best shrimp tacos I've ever had, better than any other restaurant in Arizona El paisano forever
google avatar

Shelby B.

Yelp
Don't let the humble (or sketchy) exterior fool you! This place makes the best burritos I've ever had. For the price of fast food you can get a huge amount of amazingly delicious Mexican food. Their burritos are legitimately the size of a baby -it's insane. As a warning, when they say hot they mean hot.

J R.

Yelp
Holy crap, I could not tell you how many times I've been coming to this place, this place is legit when it comes to good seasoned food, especially late night cravings, if I could rate this place out of 10 it would be a perfect 10/10, the service is amazing, it gets busy during the day and at night, so you gotta know what you want when you order so they can get that line moving. While waiting for your food to get prepared you can walk around and look at the exotic snacks that you can't find anywhere else.
google avatar

Missy L.

Yelp
The Best Ever Had, I never had anything so good to eat out of a store in my life. I'm going to be going back to Arizona just for this place
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
I came here with my friend on Tuesday after work they have the most amazing service ever and they have good deals and I love to take Apple Pay and the food over there it is so delicious and it's worth a good price I will be coming here a lot after work as a good convenience store to get stuff and it's only like three minutes away from my job which is very convenient for me
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Just walked in and walked out after the big guy working the grill was incredibly rude to my girlfriend for looking at the menu. Live right next door and I'll never return. It's hard to get to and the alcohol is overpriced.

Darian S.

Yelp
Great asf came in faded real shit real men real inventory, nothing like them because of the food and liquor and women! Best customer service number 1 they'll do fire vapes 4 for $50 crazy original people

Jesus A.

Yelp
This guy charged me $14 dollars for items that added up to $10. Such a rip off would never recommend this place to anybody.
google avatar

Jake D.

Yelp
WHAT AN ESTABLISHMENT! From the sketchy costumers, to the inebriated college students, to the friendly cooks EL P's is an ASU legend. Their shelves are stocked with anything you would ever need: From 4 lokos, toilet paper, hats, burritos, viagra, bongs; I wouldn't be half surprised if you could get tax advice and a marriage license at El P's Lol. If you need any house supplies, a nightcap, or pure rambunctious entertainment El P's has you covered
google avatar

Amelia H.

Yelp
What amazing Mexican food! Ordered delivery from there several times. Delicious, greasy, and reasonably priced. Recommend the shrimp tacos or the Paisano burrito. Was not as in love with the carne asada fries but they still got finished. Highly recommend.

Yelp
UberEats + El Paisano in the wee hours of the morning is both the single best and worst decision I've ever made. When you get a call from the Uber driver saying "I'm here... bring a friend... or a wheelbarrow..." you know you have a problem. I'm from Bakersfield. Hi. We know good tacos. Wait. Surprised? Well, we do. Not to start WWIII here (I'll leave that to our President) but we make some mighty fine tacos in the Central Valley. So after a long night of drinking, there's only one thing I crave: TACOS! And at 3 am, there are very few taco options in the fancy little chic town of Scottsdale. Enter: UberEats. El Paisano Market (inside Laila's Check Cashing... you read that right) was somehow rated the best of the best. My Tito's fueled-self proceeded to order every single thing on the menu. You heard me right. Every. Single. Thing. To be honest, most of the food wasn't very memorable, but you don't really come here (or order Uber Eats from here) for that. It's the massive portions and the prices. Oh - and the fact that they are open late. Bye Bye Hangover. It's hands down one of the more gangster things I've ever done. Think it isn't? Come back to me when you've filled your hotel room with tacos and burritos like a boss. #lifegoals
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
I have finally found my place for amazing late night Mexican food! Move over Fillie-B's, I no longer have to tolerate your bland excuse of a burrito. El Paisano has a good variety of food from fish & chips to burgers to quesadillas. My favorite item on the menu so far is the California burrito, which is up to par with some of the spots in San Diego I used to frequent. These guys know how to serve quality food at affordable prices and even late at night to serve all your hunger needs at any time.
google avatar

Relentless D.

Yelp
This was my favorite restaurant ever.. until they raised the prices on the El Paisarito, took their restaurant off of 'free delivery' for posmates and uber eats then made the delivery fee 3.49. I ordered 4 times a week but now it costs 17$+ just for one burrito so they lost my business :(
google avatar

Tori W.

Yelp
For my short trip in AZ I knew I had to get late night Mexican food, so my friend from high school took me here after hitting up bars on Mill. It seems like these hole in the wall places are always the best. As far as late night food goes, this place was not greasy or frozen like fast food. My breakfast burrito was made fresh and right in front of me. I got mine with eggs, cheese, tomatoes, and red salsa. Fast service and the employees were helpful. The only thing is they should offer bacon for the breakfast burrito. Is it just me or is having chicken with egg just wrong?
google avatar

Chase M.

Yelp
This market takes me back to my college days... oh the nostalgia! Very small inside; navigating the aisles can be frustration if there are enough people shopping inside. However, them being fully stocked makes up for it. I've seen products that I don't always see in nearby grocery stores, so when you have a particular taste for your favorite beer, wine or liquor, chances are they have it here. Wouldn't hurt to grab a quick snack to go along with it. Also, the food counter in the back tends to be pretty popular. While I haven't personally ordered food from here, I've read other reviews that have me thinking about trying something soon. The cashier was also friendly, which left a good impression on the way out. I assume during weekends, this place is overly-crowded with college students so I may avoid swinging by here on weekend nights but otherwise, it's a great go-to!
google avatar

Harris M.

Yelp
I am always in search of authentic Mexican fare in particular tacos and burritos. At Paisano's I hit the trifecta. For starters the tacos were exceptional. Secondly, the prices are very attractive. And finally, this is a combo market and Taco place. So if one is looking for Mexican provisions this may be the place to check it out. But I digress. Back to the food. I ordered 3 steak tacos and watched the cook assemble them. The steak was perfectly cooked on the flat top: tasty and tender. Based on your preference you can choose from a plethora of toppings and condiments. The amount of meat in each of the open-faced tacos was another great attribute. They do a lot of takeout business although I chose to utilize one of two picnic tables outside. I plan to come back to checkout their burritos and other menu items. Sent from my iPhone

Yelp
Best store that has ever existed within a 1 mile radius of ASU. They've sold me enough alcohol to intoxicate the entire student population twice by now. Not only that, these guys also have a street-style Mexicali take-out restaurant built-in to the store. That shizz is BOMB and it's not expensive. Nothing here is. They even have good prices on their 420 waterpipes ;) Go here.

Jdtfygy M.

Yelp
One of the best late night places to get food, snacks and various other things. Always enjoy coming here and have never left unhappy. El Paisano for life!
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
I've been to El Paisanos a few times now and I must say that this place was a great find. First of all, the guys working here are exceptionally welcoming every time. They load your burritos full of ingredients, and unlike competitors like Chipotle, they are VERY generous with their portion sizes. It's also much more authentic in taste than the aforementioned competitor. You can add as many things to your burrito at no additional cost. It's very clean and well maintained despite it being a hot spot for ASU kids. Lastly, they are also kind enough to offer a military discount for members and veterans. As far as bang for buck goes, El Paisanos is an exemplary example, and their food is a fiesta in your mouth.
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
We ordered tonight for the first time since it is open super late.. we ordered two burritos and got two burritos that were not at all what we ordered. We probably won't order from here again.
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Great food every time. Open all hours. Everyone goes here. I don't know Anyone who doesn't eat here and love it

Aparna B.

Yelp
The greatest store ever. El P's has saved our lives more times than we can imagine. We love the staff and they never fail to make us feel welcome. It's always a delight to walk into the store because it feels like we're all friends and acquaintances. The convenient working hours always allow us to walk in whenever we feel like. El P's is truly the backbone of the student body of ASU!

Yelp
Located in the back of a somewhat sketchy liquor/convenience store, LP's is hands down the best Mexican food in Tempe! If you're craving anything from a burrito with pineapple to wings that will make your taste buds love you, you need to try LP's. This place never fails to fulfill my cravings, and my stomach (huge portions). They are open super late, so when midnight cravings hit, it's nice to have a place so close to where I live where I can get fresh food made in front of me. My recommendation is the carne asada quesadilla, with a side of sour cream, pico and green chili sauce, it's so flavorful and filling, and make for the best leftovers. However the options are endless as you can choose unlimited toppings! Their food is fresh and affordable, and the staff is very friendly, and will remember you if you go there often, which makes it feel very homey :)

Yelp
We just arrived in Tempe/Phoenix and I was starving!! For $18 we got two HUGE enchilada combos that were AUTHENTIC Mexican. It was really tasty and we were able to sit outside. A nice place OPEN UNTIL 4AM. Great service.
