"Marc Hurwitz visits El Palmar, a Mexican and Salvadoran restaurant in East Boston. It is truly a neighborhood restaurant, and a menu highlight is the grilled burrito stuffed with queso fresco. Simple tacos are served on lightly charred corn tortillas, and Hurwitz calls out the beef tacos for the smokiness of the grilled meat. A chunkier guacamole has a strong onion flavor, and the enchiladas verdes picantes are spicy with hot peppers in the salsa verde. Dishes in the Salvadoran category include tilapia pupusas and hen soup, and there are beverages like mango smoothies available." - Dana Hatic

Google
Great little spot in East Boston for quality Mexican and Salvadorean dishes at reasonable prices. I loved the perfectly seasoned steak tacos. Their staff was very friendly and helpful when I ran into a problem with online ordering.

I went there for an early dinner after landing at Logan airport - and I can highly recommend. The chicken with cream sauce was fantastic, large portion, great price. The place is nice and cozy.

Just got food delivered. The Pina colada is good but the super nachos.... It's made with nasty JAR CHEESE. JAR CHEESE from an actual Mexican Restaurant??!! If I wanted that, I'd have gone to 7-11. Absolutely cheap and inexcusable. Never again

Google
This is Salvadorian Mexican which is similar to Mexican food but with slightly different spices. It was delicious! I wish we had one in our city.

Yelp
Decided to stop by with a friend after a day of attending PAX, turned out to be one of the best places I've had a burrito at. I personally don't know too much Spanish but everything still went smoothly and the environment was great.

Yelp
This place has the best guacamole I've ever had! fajitas were top notch, service excellent. Absolutely wonderful food!

Yelp
Great little breakfast/lunch/dinner place! We came for breakfast and got some great eggs, THICK bacon, and some pupusas. I have to say they are the best we've tried in Boston, and come in a ton of varieties!! They are each made to order and are delicious! The homefries were a little blah. Truthfully, if they just pan fry them in oil to make them crispy on the outside they'd be fantastic. (We did this with the leftovers)! Good coffee as well! Come try this place!

Yelp
Random stop while stranded in Boston due to "budget" airline incompetence. You get what you pay for. Anyhow - mandatory extra night in Logan airport hotel and found this place on Google looking for food near me. It was dead when we walked in and I was mildly concerned about a poor choice but we ordered up, had a margarita while we waited and were incredibly pleased with the food when we got back to the room. Simple, authentic and very very good. The hot sauce that came with the burritos and tacos was awesome and flavorful heat - my lips are still tingling. The chips for the nachos and sides were fresh cut and fried. If we're ever at Logan, ideally not on a delay, we'll head back to this place.

Yelp
I woke up wanting breakfast this morning. I didn't want to cook it. So I decided to pay someone to bring me food. By the time I tried to decide on what I wanted it was 11am, close to lunch. I took a look at El Palmar's menu and was so close to getting breakfast but...I remembered that I like things like pork, refried beans, lengua tacos and modongo soup. So I ordered all of that instead. So, know how I just said I like pork and refried beans? Add cheese and put it in the middle of a papusa. OMG. Side of refried beans, not sure what they put in it to make it so beefy and hearty and tasty. Not salty like other places make it. Chicharrones, lil pieces of fried porky goodness accompanied by cucumber and tomatoes. Squeeze the juice from fresh limes all over it, your taste buds will thank you. The lengua tacos, so tasty and the meat is soo soft. Lots of onion and cilantro, squeeze some more lime juice and put the sauce on it. Heaven. The mondongo...ok see, I'm actually eating everything right now as I type this review and I haven't opened it yet but it's red mondongo. Red mondongo. Not white, red. So it's automatically fantastic. They hooked me up too, one big ass container and a smaller one. Even the damn vinegar slaw in the lil baggie is delicious. Extra plain papusas, a side of yellow rice with veggies, everything came piping hot, like the papusa burned a hole in the Styrofoam container hot. I am happy. And fat. Ok, so I'm gonna go finish this and get myself into a food coma and you're gonna either go there or order takeout and get your own food coma.

Yelp
Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Also, my Spanish isn't that great, but they were very patient. I would definitely go back. *Note: This is a very casual restaurant, definitely not somewhere to go on a date. But the food is really good.

Yelp
Just a little place but great food for cheap! I had Carne Guisada - roast beef stew - tender, lots of beef plus potatoes and carrots with rice and macaroni salad and a couple pupusas. Go with the Thursday night special!

Yelp
Best pupusas ever! My favorite is cheese pupusa. Their food is awesome! The salvadorean chicken or steak tostadas are yummie! All their food is delicious! The staff is kind. To the owner: Wilfredo, keep doing the great job!

Yelp
I went here the other night for dinner. I was a little nervous at first because when we walked in the place was completely empty and a lot of the other restaurants were really crowded. While the waitress wasn't the friendliest, to us, the food was pretty good. I got the carne asada which I would not recommend as the meat tasted a little off, but the rice and beans were really yummy. My husband got the chicken fajitas and his plate was over flowing with meat and veggies and was really delicious. I would maybe come back here, but there are a lot of restaurants in the area that we have yet to try that I imagine would have better service, are around the same price, and all seem to have the same huge portions.

Yelp
Got take-out and were a bit skeptical since we've tried take out from several East Boston Latin food places. We ordered the staples to properly judge plus a ceviche. Ceviche was fantastic (even though Peru seems far from the El Salvadorian and Mexican food that's mostly on the menu). The burrito was nicely grilled and delicious! We ordered extra to have left overs, but kept going. The tamale was fantastic and so was the guacamole. My only complaint is that the guac at $2.50 should have been more than a tiny salsa container. Skipping that next time due to price. The burrito is $8 and can feed 2 mildly hungry people! Seems out of balance. Overall, great food, on time delivery, variety of options. Can't wait to try the fajitas we saved for tomorrow and thankful to find a good Mexican/Central American place a block away from us.

Yelp
Very small place but the food is fantastic. I have never had anything subpar here. My favorites are the chicken enchiladas and taco combination. The salsa is always fresh and delicious!

Yelp
So my sister says this place has 1500+ reviews on Foodler or something. I was mildly intrigued. Not because my sister said so but because it was in East Boston (my stomping grounds) and I had never heard of it! We go in on a Friday night and we are struck with the overwhelming, eye burning smell of cheap perfume. Strike one. The tables are full of drunk guys googly eyeing my sister. Strike two. I immediately wanted to run for my life. This can't be good. But we were there and starving. I decided to order a pupusa and a few tacos. Figured you can't die from that... Now I can insert my foot in my mouth because the food was to die for. I've already been there like six times in two months. It is exactly the type of food and prices you would expect on the streets of Mexico and El Salvador. It is phenomenal (my favorite word). It is food a grandmother would make at prices that you can't fathom. I highly recommend the tongue taco and for those less adventurous...the steak taco. The mixed pupusa is ridiculous and so is the zucchini one! The rib plate was massive and so, so, so good! The beans are amazing! The steak plate was ok...due to the steak being a tad dry. But I have not had a single bad thing here. I even joined the drunken party by ordering a Modelo Especial! Just so you know...jukebox and you can imagine super loud! Better for takeout. Enjoy!
