El Patio 77

"How did it strike you on arrival? This 1890s-era stone building is homey and inviting, but also elegant. I was first struck by the period-looking woodern staircase, then I caught sight of the beautiful, tiled floors. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The crowd is mainly couples in their thirties who eschew chain hotels in traditional tourist zones. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The eight rooms (six suites and two standard rooms) are uniquely decorated, incorporating traditional materials in a contemporary way. They're named for different Mexican states and each one reflects something of the handicrafts of its namesake region. You'll want to spend time exploring all of the different objects before you head out into the city. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Comfortable white linens are topped with colorful cushions and bedspreads. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? You'll want to know where you can buy the rugs. And the pillows. And the wall art. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The bathrooms, like the rooms, are all uniquely decorated: some have a modern feel while others are more rustic-chic. Note that the two standard rooms have a shared bathroom, so if worry about bumping into a stranger while brushing your teeth, opt for one of the suites. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? There is free high-speed Internet in every room and across the hotel. Room service: Worth it?There's no full-service restaurant, but breakfast is served each morning in a beautiful central patio (and it's included in the price of the room). What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?El Patio 77 is one of the few hotels in Mexico City that's environmentally conscious: Water in the showers and sinks are heated by solar energy and recycled into for use in sewage." - Susannah Rigg

After the Earthquake, Mexico City’s Boutique Hotels Trade Competition for Teamwork - AFAR

"An eight-room, eco-friendly boutique hotel in San Rafael whose owner, Alan Favero, helped found a citywide platform to unite similarly designed, service-focused small hotels after the 2017 earthquake; the property emphasizes personalized service and local engagement and is part of a group working together to promote neighborhoods, share recommendations, and create joint promotions to attract visitors." - Brooke Porter Katz

El Patio 77, Mexico City, Mexico - Explore & Book

"Somehow we expected El Patio 77, Mexico City’s first eco-friendly guesthouse, to be, well, more eco than elegant. But when the grand wrought-iron front gates swung open, we entered a lofty stone courtyard with a 3-tiered fountain that led into a black-and-white tiled lobby of chaise longues and chandeliers. Original fittings from this aristocratic home of the 1890s, like the spiral staircase and oak beams, are on display; what you don’t see are the solar panels on the roof and the battery-operated water recycling system in the basement. This ingenious mix of progressive green facilities and graceful relics of the past was conjured up by a French-and-Mexican partnership: Alan, a Mexico City native, and Diego, who is originally from Brittany but has lived nearly a decade in the city. They are keenly aware of the water shortage problems facing this huge capital and are dedicated to preserving and utilising natural resources. But that doesn’t mean the mood at their beautiful 8-room B&B is smug - chat between guests at the breakfast terrace is affable; older children are welcome; local artists hang paintings on the exposed-brick walls. It’s a classy mix of sociability and sustainability. Highs Quiet location in the bohemian San Rafael barrio, near the large San Cosme market and Metro stopSpacious rooms, simply but creatively decorated with crafts and materials from specific Mexican states; all with WiFi Great value for moneyFriendly hosts who are happy to discuss (in excellent English) either their eco-ethos or where to buy the best burritosA mini art gallery: paintings and sculptures from local La 77 gallery on show throughout the house Lows The smaller rooms share a bathroom, which can mean you may have to wait for your morning showerThe breakfast terrace is small so there is often a wait for tables when the hotel is full - but breakfast is worth the waitNo other meals are served but it's an easy stroll to a good choice of restaurants and barsSome may find the neighbourhood slightly down-at-heel and off the beaten track; you're not in the heart of the action here" - Glenda Richards

We had a long, lovely stay here. The property is beautiful and quiet, with big, unique, pleasant rooms. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and the host, Elvia, is very welcoming, with great suggestions and guidance every day. The neighborhood is perfect, not overly touristy, it felt like a normal family neighborhood - great restaurants in every block, with people out walking dogs and visiting in the evenings. It was the perfect place for us, and we look forward to coming back someday.

I had a wonderful stay at El Patio 77. The boutique, eco-friendly style gave the space so much charm and character. The staff were warm, welcoming, and always helpful with recommendations, which made me feel at home right away. My room was beautifully designed with unique touches and very comfortable for relaxing after a long day. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and I loved the quiet, peaceful atmosphere throughout the property. Overall, El Patio 77 felt like a hidden gem—stylish, sustainable, and full of warmth. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Mexico City who wants a memorable and authentic stay.

Google
We had such a lovely time at El Patio 77. From the friendly, wonderful staff to the spacious, thoughtfully designed rooms, we can’t recommend this B&B enough. The house is stunning and it’s in a great neighborhood. The owner, Elvia, even took the time to sit down and give us her local recommendations. We were always greeted with a smile! Be sure to say hi to Bonito, the adorable resident lobby dog. We will absolutely be back on our next trip to CDMX.

My stay at ElPatio77 was nothing but extraordinary. Nestled away, the beautiful home has a perfect atmosphere and extraordinary staff that made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The breakfast every morning was a delicious treat. The room was beautiful, and cleaned daily. I always felt at home. I’ve been to Mexico City a few times now, and won’t consider staying anywhere else. It was truly amazing service.

A truly wonderful place. The entire team was super attentive before and throughout our stay and helped us with whatever we needed. This was such a lovely experience. I chose an eco hotel because of a conference I was attending. The hostess was wonderful I wouldn’t have made it without her and breakfast was provided every morning. It’s a very low key space with cute decor and spacious rooms. It was pretty close to restaurants and general amenities and about a 15 drive to more developed city center areas. I definitely recommend.

Google
el patio 77 was recommended by a friend and it couldn’t have been a better option for our stay in CDMX! in a lovely and safe neighbourhood, near to the city center, this charm house welcomed us as if it was our own. Elvia is so lovely and helped us plan our days. Breakfast is delicious and the overall energy is very warm. If you value a smaller, more personal hotel this is for you :)

Google
I had the most amazing stay at El Patio!! I was staying for a work trip so only spent two nights there, but I wish I had been able to stay for longer! The room was incredibly comfortable, clean and super stylish. Elvia is incredibly kind and helpful and couldn’t have made me feel more welcome. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and all the staff were so sweet. I have recommended the hotel to everyone I know travelling to Mexico, and will definitely be back! Thank you so much again

Yelp
We love this place. It's actually two beautiful 19th century houses that have been spliced together, retaining their gorgeous historical motifs but with an overlay of super-sophisticated of-the-moment decor. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious and served in the hotel's enclosed patio with its soaring two story roof and hanging plants. Guests should be advised that El Patio 77 prides itself on being ecologically conscious--this is not the place to take a decadent bubble bath or a long steamy shower. The neighborhood is a "real"(ie non-touristy) place with some great dining options (El Asadero is a local favorite) and it's close to the metro. The staff couldn't be more helpful, and there's even a security guard on duty over night.

Yelp
El Patio 77 provided us with an amazing and welcoming atmosphere in Mexico City. This place is a wonderful bed and breakfast very close to the subway. Our flight arrived earlier than our scheduled check-in time, but the staff at El Patio 77 worked with us and stored our luggage in the main office until our room was ready. This was an amazing start to our trip and it allowed us to enjoy the city for a few hours until our room was ready. The staff spoke English and of course Spanish beautifully. The room. What can I say about the room. It was stunning. We stayed in the Guerrero room, which doesn't have a private bathroom, but this was never an issue throughout the trip. Every morning, we had the option of enjoying breakfast with the wonderful chefs at El Patio 77. The food was delicious and it was a great way to start the day. We had pancakes, enfrijoladas, fresh fruit everyday... simply awesome. I really have never felt more welcome on an international trip. I would highly recommend El Patio 77 if you are looking to be near la reforma in Mexico City. Ride the subway nearby! It's only a few pesos and it can get you down to the historic district in a few minutes time!

Yelp
This b&b is really fantastic. Location is very close to the San Cosme subway stop and the neighborhood is very residential. New art galleries are popping up on the block so it is interesting to walk around as well. Breakfasts are different each day of the week and all taste amazing. Room is huge and decor is pretty. Cleaning is daily and they give you free drinkable water.

Yelp
Very nice place but be aware of the suite on the ground floor. It has very bad air quality and is noisy since it's inches from the street.

Yelp
Fantastic B&B which is more of a small hotel in San Rafael. Perfect staff, perfect establishment with beautiful rooms in a quite and old Mexican neighborhood. Safe as a foreigner to kick it in the streets and get some great food and wares. This Eco-hotel rocks it for sure with great designed spaces and cool owners, Diego & Pedro.

Yelp
Patio 77 is exactly as described in other glowing reviews. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well decorated. The building itself is beautiful and there are some cool spots nearby. What really stood out was the staff. I can't remember the last time I stayed at a place as welcoming. I'll be staying here again

Yelp
El Patio 77 is simply magical. I stayed there on my last trip to Mexico City several years ago and fell in love with the beauty, warmth, and splendor of this gem of a B&B. On a long overdue trip back to CDMX last week, I returned to discover that it retains all the charm I remembered even as it expanded to include additional guest rooms. The proprietors, including Elvia and Sergio, are a delight to talk to - they are so welcoming and take such care to ensure every guest has a perfect stay. They even helped me chart out a tour of galleries and local art spaces in the city. The rooms are creatively and tastefully decorated with art and vintage pieces. And the breakfasts are delicious! I can't sing enough praise for this place. The neighborhood is also great to explore, and close to all the central areas, monuments, and nightlife of the city but still quiet, charming and not too touristy. If you visit CDMX and don't stay at El Patio 77 you are missing out on a truly special and unique experience. I can't wait to return again soon!
