"It takes a lot to stand out in Puerto Vallarta’s taco scene, but this taquería, recently opened in the Versalles neighborhood, won over a loyal clientele almost immediately. Part of the Joel Ornelas restaurant group, the restaurant is run by Ornelas’s mother, Ana Martina Garcia. The menu only offers five items: tacos de chicharrón en salsa verde, the flagship pork belly tacos, bean and panela cheese tacos, quesadillas, and guacamayas (Guanajuato-style tortas filled with crispy chicharrón, except served on sourdough Jalisco-style crusty birote salado rolls). The tortillas are made from local heirloom blue corn, and El Puerco de Oro may have the most epic salsa counter in town." - Paola Briseño-González

The crispy pork belly immediately caught my eye while exploring restaurants in Versalles, so I decided to give this place a try. I arrived early at lunchtime, and it wasn’t too busy, which made for a relaxed experience. I sampled several dishes: the pork belly taco, the pork belly in green salsa taco, and the grilled pork head meat taco. Each was flavorful, both on its own and paired with the excellent selection of condiments. I also tried the pickled pork trotters, which were quite good. To top it off, I ordered a cheese crust on a large tortilla filled with pork belly—an indulgent and delicious choice. The restaurant itself is modern, bright and clean, with a friendly and welcoming staff. If you’re a fan of pork, especially pork belly, this is definitely the place for you.

We tried 3 different tacos here. All of them are good but I will recommend the crunchy one and the one with the green sauce.

Owned by Chef Joel Ornelas of Tintoque and La Leña El Puerco de Oro opened mid-pandemic, and serving guests “Desde el Tiempo de Covid” the Versalles space has made a name for itself with Pork Belly Tacos. A native of Puerto Vallarta, skills refined at Café des Artistes before time abroad, it is inside an open-air space that diners pick from a concise list of Proteins packed onto housemade Blue Corn Tortillas. Friendly in terms of service, Tacos 28-33 Pesos and jumbo Quesadillas 70-80, Agua Frescas include Horchata made with Oat Milk while a selection of Mexican Beers match well to Belly that is crunchy over juicy flesh or bits of crispy Skin intermixed with gooey Cheese and Salsa.

Was in search of some carnitas for my dad and so glad we found this hidden gem!place is away from the tourist stuff...lots of locals! The tacos are so freaking delicious...super affordable...customer service is great...the place is small but cute and clean...they have like 4 tables inside and a sitting area outside. Handmade purple corn tortillas...lots of different salsas for your tacos...habanero salsa was fire super spicy! Everyone agreed to definitely come back! So if you want something different try this place you won't regret it!

Pork belly way too chewy, and the skin very hard. Your teeth hurt. Beer warm. Used to take my own but they sell on their new location now. I keep going here because of hand made tortillas and variety of salsas. No to mention is close to one of my properties but they need to pick it up on that aspect. Service always top notch. If you’re looking for carnitas this ain’t the place. Is more of a tacos made of pork guisos.

Oh My Gosh!!! One of the best pork tacos I’ve ever eaten. The crispy pork belly is so smooth and tasty and the cheese on the pork belly quesadilla is rich and flavorful. And those homemade blue corn tortillas. Wow!!! The oat water was perfect to wash it all down.

Pork belly tacos for breakfast! What a way to start the day. Crunchy, juicy flavourful tacos with blue corn tortillas. Wow!! I will be coming back here for more breakfast. It was delicious. The staff were friendly, the tacos were $25 Mexican Pesos and great value!
