The 25 Best Restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico | Eater

"It takes a lot to stand out in Puerto Vallarta’s taco scene, but this taquería in the Versalles neighborhood won over a loyal clientele almost immediately. Part of the Joel Ornelas restaurant group, the restaurant is run by Ornelas’s mother, Ana Martina García. The menu only offers five items: the flagship pork belly tacos, pork belly in salsa verde, bean and panela cheese tacos, quesadillas, and guacamayas (Guanajuato-style tortas filled with crispy chicharrón, except served on sourdough Jalisco-style crusty birote salado rolls). The tortillas are made from local heirloom blue corn, and El Puerco de Oro may have the most epic salsa counter in town." - Paola Briseño-González

Puerto Vallarta #2: El Puerco de Oro was one of the reasons I was so excited for this PV trip...and it delivered! This was our first (and last) lunch during our one-week PV trip. The first time we each ordered a pancita taco and a pancita en salsa verde taco ($39/pz; $43 chela). The pancita in sasa verde was exceptional. Beyond that, they have one of the best salsas bars I have encountered in Mexico (or anywhere?) as there were three different habanero options. Their handmade, blue-corn tortillas are also great. Our second visit, I wanted to make sure to try each of their specials: tacos dorados $120* (uno y uno) and the guacamaya $130* (salsa a lado). They were both excellent, and it's so hard to compare them to each other or to our first visit. I think the tacos dorados are awesome because of the texture the tacos dorados provide. This special also offers more surface area to add...more salsas from the salsa bar to! One of our favorite restaurants of the trip, and every item we ordered from here was 5/5! Service and ambiance were also 5/5 IMO. Next time: taco de cabeza!

My goodness. Shakira says her "hips dont lie", I will tell you the pork doesn't lie about "grande sabor" aka big flavor. From where ever you are in Puerto Vallarta, get here, yeah like right here. There is not a better taco in all the land, and if you like pork, please, run, dont walk. Normally, I dont buy into hype, but I know what I like. El Puerco treats pork like a deity, like a sacred cow, its more than special, its a religious experience. The space is nothing fancy, but its contemporary, clean and staffed by the friendliest of people. The star is the pork and the chiccharon. It's juicy, meaty while delicately decadent, and if you have it with chichharon, the flavor crunch profile makes your mouth feel soooo happy, if not rapturous, to continue on a theme. Salty, sweet, smoky goodness. Order in a myriad of varieties, tacos, entradas or a plato, its all orgasmic. I wouldn't call myself blatantly a carnivore, but this, this right here, yeah, sorry, give me the meats, bathe me in it. This, for me, is simple, but perfected excellence.

Best pork belly tacos in PV. Had the pork belly, pork belly in green sauce and the grilled pork head. All very good but the winner was the pork belly with the chicharrón topping. Also has a very good salsa bar. Staff friendly and helpful.

I feel satisfied with their tacos ‘pork belly’ and the tacos ‘pork belly with green sauce’. I’m so happy that I can have them before I have to go back home. The pork belly is crispy and delicious, very good flavour, it won’t be too salty, not oily, which is very good.👍 The kitchen is so open that you can see every step the lady’s are doing, once you are there you got a vibe ‘mama is here!’, most importantly, the kitchen is very clean. The eating area is also very open, enough space to enjoy the food, good air circulation. I find no reason no coming back😝

I had 4 tacos. One pork belly, two pork belly in green salsa and one grilled pork meat head. All were amazing with the stand out one being pork belly in green salsa. I'll be going back for the cheese crusted quesadillas

They serve only pork (and a veggie option) in a variety of ways. Blue corn tortillas are delicious and you go up and add your own garnishes and sauces. Authentic and great value.

The crispy pork belly immediately caught my eye while exploring restaurants in Versalles, so I decided to give this place a try. I arrived early at lunchtime, and it wasn’t too busy, which made for a relaxed experience. I sampled several dishes: the pork belly taco, the pork belly in green salsa taco, and the grilled pork head meat taco. Each was flavorful, both on its own and paired with the excellent selection of condiments. I also tried the pickled pork trotters, which were quite good. To top it off, I ordered a cheese crust on a large tortilla filled with pork belly—an indulgent and delicious choice. The restaurant itself is modern, bright and clean, with a friendly and welcoming staff. If you’re a fan of pork, especially pork belly, this is definitely the place for you.

Loved this place! I feel like it's a hidden gem, in a quiet part of town, with nice airy seating and kind and friendly staff. We visited twice during our week long stay, and are sending all our friends when they're in town. The salsas are (insert chef's kiss), the pork nice and crispy, and the tortillas fresh. Definitely looking forward to our next trip. ♥️ I wish I had better pictures, but we were too busy eating!
