El Rancho Burritos

While there isn't much seating available, the food here is well worth the trip! There are plenty of Mexican restaurants in NYC, but this is by far one of my absolute favorites! I find myself returning here rather than trying a different place each time because the food here is just that good! The meat is tender and flavorful, and the sauces have just enough of a kick to be complimentary to your meal without overpowering the underlying flavors. I highly recommend this place!

I got the Puebla Burrito - A flour tortilla filled with stewed chicken, rice, beans, cream Topped with mole sauce and melted cheese. It was savory and perfect with the beans and chicken, I added spicy 🌶️ sauce to make it perfect for me. If you want great burrito 🌯come this way 🌯

It would be nice if they could label the takeout food. Solid food overall

I ordered chicken taco since I wasn’t too hungry. It comes with lots of lettuce and tomato on top of the chicken. That’s a nice portion in NYC. My partner ordered a burrito. He loved it and said it’s the best burrito he had in a while. The atmosphere is authentic with Mexican decors. They have a nice area to sit outside which was perfect.

This is the best Mexican food I’ve found in NYC so far. At least as far as burritos go. I get the Acapulco burrito (which has no meat). It’s still not like mexican food in the south west, but I love it and keep going back. Very fast preparation.

some of the best Mexican food I've had in nyc I got green burrito and it was smothered in sauce. I also asked for cheese and it had a good helping of it. it's also cheap for the area. my new go to theater eats ngl instead of bland pizza all the time. they have good to go packaging. salsa is very flavorful and spicy churro was addicting.

Small place. Food was great. Great portions and flavorful. I had fajitas and wife had burrito. Wasn't too busy but it was also 2 pm on a weekday. Had more seating outside then he few tables inside.

Amazing Burrito for under $15. I live across the street and come here very often. The Jalisco Burrito and then Al Pastor Burrito are my go too. Highly recommend.

Today I order vegetable with fried fish and my order was a mess.. send it back two time and they send me only onion with green pepper, because that was the vegetable.. I always have a problem with the lady because she send what she want.. I spend $18 on my food..

The 5 stars are for the food exclusively! This place is a hole in the wall in Hell's kitchen, and it's so easy to miss. My bf took me here and I looked at him like ummm...sir what?? But you can't judge a book by its cover and let me tell you why. I haven't had a Chimichanga in like, 6 years. Dude. It was a daily special, but that ish was fuegooooo. Definitely a truer authentic vibe than Chipotle hands down (with much more options)! The food is reasonably priced and just downright good, and that's why 5 stars was the way to go. Now this is more of a you order your food and you sit down on your own kind of place cause no one serves you. As for the restaurant itself...let's just say it's a true hole in the wall. No bells and whistles, nothing fancy but there is outdoor seating and Spanish soap operas that play inside. It's not cute and it's cramped with boxes around, but ya know what, in a spot like this it just doesn't matter. The food's good and that should stay the main highlight of this review. On Site: --Bathroom (don't worry, it's not gross at all. It's giving gas station vibes though) --Outdoor Seating --Fridge of different drinks

Great burrito. Great price. It's a small restaurant but big on good food. Great service too. I got the carnitas burrito and it was very good.

The store front is not necessarily hard to find, but if you're walking up 9th, you'll see a big sign on the deli pointing to it. Normally my "phone eats first" but the food was so good that I forgot to take a picture! As an appetizer, I got the chips with guacamole and salsa. I could eat that guacamole with a spoon! I also got the Chipotle Burrito, which was so big that I could barely handle with two hands. My favorite part was the chicken which was really juicy and well seasoned. The workers were really friendly and helpful! They gave great recommendations for the food. Near the counter where you order there is a water dispenser. I mention that because I would not have seen it unless it was pointed out to me and would have ended up buying a water bottle.

Not bad! Stumbled into here sorta by chance because we were looking for something quick and BYOB specifically before heading over to watch Freestyle Love Supreme at the Booth Theater. For vegetarians this place is yumm! It mostly does take out but there is seating for ~10 people on the side. The service was friendly and the space was clean - acceptable and cozy. I had the acapulco burrito and my brother had the quesadilla grande - which was essentially the same dish except my burrito had some verde sauce on top. Loaded with lots of mexican rice/beans/cheese this meal is hearty and really hits the spot if you super hungry. It's a cheap eat but a good one!

Takes a little long. But honestly better Mexican food I've had in Hell's Kitchen ... I'm from California. I've tried all these spots in NYC... so disappointing went to Williamsburg yesterday to try the San Francisco burrito don't go. Same size quality is bad. The meat is actually seasoned at El rancho, great price good size burrito and the ingredients taste closer to authentic Mexican. Definitely will be back. Again with the limited options of good Mexican food in NYC coming from a Latino Californian. This is actually good .

There's a lot of Mexican restaurants that are similar to this hole in the wall in Hell's kitchen. I used to work on 11th Ave and 46 so I've tried many of them. This place is OK if you're in a hurry, but the food is nothing special. The menu is pretty limited. Seems like they recently changed it to offer more gringo friendly items such as burritos, burritos, burritos. If you're not in a rush and want to find someplace great you'll come back to, keep looking. But if you want a taco and then hit the road, it will do.

They never disappoint with their preparation or portions of food. I've been going to this not so secret spot for years and they continue to come out on top. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Never leaves me hungry but I always want more. Hell's Kitchen never had better.

This is a great hole in the wall spot to go to if you want great more authentic Mexican food than you normally get in New York. The portions are quite large and the food is inexpensive as well. I usually get a chicken burrito and quesadilla. The quesadilla comes with guacamole on top.

El Rancho Burritos has quickly become my go-to stop for quick, affordable, filling food in the Theater District. It's a tiny little place but I always get exactly what I ordered, fresh and made with care. I especially like the Mexican Style Tacos and the range of optional toppings.

Since I live in Southern California (the home of the best Mexican food outside of Mexico), I never thought I'd be going to a Mexican restaurant in New York City. My Native New Yorker friend insisted that it was good so we tried it and to my surprise, he was right! El Rancho reminds me of one of many little spots throughout Los Angeles - tiny little hole-in-the-wall spots that are popular with the locals but often invisible to tourists. That's the vibe I get here. Definitely not the cleanest place I've been to, but the service was complete with that NYC Charm (efficient but not very affable). Carne Asada Tacos are good, as is the chicken asada burrito with black beans. Lot's of take out orders happening here. Next time you are in the Theater District, pop into El Rancho. They are a A-OK!

This place has the best value for Mexican food. It's a hole in the wall and you can easily walk pass it at blink of an eye. I ordered the carnitas enchiladas with red sauce and chicken flautas..it came to $24. Other places up the street would cost me at least $37+. The food was delicious. This has become my favorite go to spot when I'm in NYC.

Solid burrito place, cheap and delicious. They definitely make burritos that are nearly impossible to pick up, but I find that preferable. Tortillas are nice and warm, the burrito combos are solid, and portions are generous. The Puebla burrito is pretty dank as well.

So, my teenager (if you've read any of my reviews, you know that majority of the places we go are to appease him) loves any kind of burrito. Plus, he eats a lot. So goals in life are how to feed him, fill him, on a budget. Came here because we heard burritos were great and cheap! Store front was simple, a couple of tables and chairs to sit in, nothing flashy. You order at the counter, where there are so many amazing sounding options on their menu. I went with the Santa Fe burrito, the portobello was perfect in the burrito, not taking anything away from the steak!. Teen ordered chimi burrito and gave it a thumbs up!

Tiny little place with DELICIOUS food and friendly staff. Limited seating, but so worth it. Great prices and lots of menu options. Highly recommend for some good Mexican food.

The biggest burrito I've ever had, and quite possibly the best! The chicken was so flavorful, and all the add ins in the burrito were the perfect ratio. Affordable too! Loved the side of salsa that came with the tortilla chips. So fresh and authentic tasting. Would definitely order again.

I placed an order for 18 people. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. Everyone was delighted and most important each order was correct. How amazing is that for 18 people;18 entrees. The delivery time was speedy. I placed the order and an hour later it was delivered. I definitely would recommend this place and definitely will reorder from them.

We haven't ordered from there in a very long time. In fact, it had a different name when we ordered from there before. The burritos are huge and they were fine. However, we ordered a large salsa on the side and it was either bad or a different recipe than the one they give you with the burritos. It was sour and had bubble which indicates it was bad but I'm convinced it was different and NOT good! We called to tell them and the chef said it was fine. It was NOT!!!

went there last night and ordered a cheese enchilada plate. I live a little over a block away and my dinner was cold! nothing was hot but the black beans, even the rice was cold! Do they freeze the food and microwave it??? Very disappointing. And, if there was cheese in the Enchilada I couldn't find it.

The food was completely flavorless and the lady at the register was rude and unattentive. She was too busy scrolling through her Facebook feed rather than paying attention to my order. Although I live nearby, I will not be coming back to El Rancho.

Serviceable Mexican joint right off of Times Square...close to theaters. Mainly a take-out place...but they do have a few tables tucked in the back. El Rancho burritos is basically a taco stand, tucked in a tiny area that looks like it once a bodega. They do not sell Alcohol...so i guess bring your own and be DL with it?

That food was terrible !!! It took forever as well to be delivered And the horchata by the time they delivery it was half of the container Spilled all over the food ! Very disappointed Never will order again ...

This is my go to spot in the neighborhood and always walk in to take out. I decided to try their new app to order for delivery. I'm a little disappointed with it. First of all, the tip wasn't included and I didn't know this, but the delivery guy sure decided to point it out and ask for one. Then I ordered a shrimp burrito ... no beans. Apparently they forgot to include the sour cream and guacamole which are the 2 best parts of the burrito! Also the shrimp seems a little undercooked and usually when I order in the restaurant, they cook it correctly and include an ample amount. This burrito didn't have many shrimp in it. I guess it's safe to say it's better to just go in so you can watch them make your food and not screw it up. I'm kinda disappointed because I wanted the correct burrito, but I ate it anyway because i was starving.

Tiny Mexican spot serving up the typical favorites at a fair price. Inside isn't much to look at (or outside), but there was no line to order on a Thursday evening. Decided on the Al Pastor Burrito in a "bowl" format ($10). A large helping of pork, rice, cheese, beans, veggies, and pineapple. Pretty much your standard fare; nothing really stood out but the dish was cooked well. Would have preferred more cheese in what's essentially a deconstructed burrito, but again it was filling enough. Also tried a bit of the veggie burrito bowl - didn't like the flavor all too much (stick to the meat here). Food came out fairly fast, so a solid spot for take out if in the area.

One of my clients told me about this place. He specified that the owner was one of the three people that brought burritos to Manhattan in the early 1970's. I ordered the California Burrito. This burrito brings shrimps, chicken, and steak plus guacamole, sour cream, veggies, rice and beans. I honestly think that its the best burrito I ever had on the east coast. I have been to California and north m=Mexico a few times, and the taste are almost the same. There is no doubt that this is the best place to buy burrito in Hells Kitchen. The staff is very genuine and friendly.

Couple of good things on the menu, and some lack flavor. Surprisingly, the churros are great. I feel that sauces make a dish, so I always pack it on. Overall, a decent place to grab a quick bite.

My coworker introduced me to this place. Today I ordered the Al Pastor Burrito ($10.83) to-go. It was pretty quick - the wait was less than 10 min. Service was great. The woman behind the counter was cheery. The burrito was extremely filling and came with a little salad and sauce on the side. Unfortunately, it was also pretty bland. Most of the time I couldn't taste the Al Pastor at all and only tasted rice and beans. My coworker likes the quesadillas so I might give this place another shot and try those next time.

An easy update: everything I wrote in the original review still applies, and I think that is something worth saying, nearly seven years later.

They did not do my order right. I ordered Mexican nachos with chicken. It's supposed to come with pico de gallo, guac, sour cream and salsa on the side(chicken,fried tortilla chips, beans etc.) And instead look what they gave me. So dissapointed, and I went to pick it up too! My advice, check your food before you leave the restaurant!

The best chicken burrito I've had in a long time and it's huge!! It's so big I had to eat it with a knife and fork lol The guacamole is also the best, super creamy! I'll definitely be ordering from here again! Chipotle who!?! Nothing better than authentic mexican food.

Call me a spoiled Californian, but the food here is neither authentic Mexican nor is it even good. My experience with El Rancho Burritos starts with calling and being yelled at by some lady that barely spoke English. I decided it would be best to place my order through Seamless. I ordered a simple enchilada, rice, and bean plate for $10.75. Yup, I definitely knew I was in NYC when I was charged that much for taqueria quality food. In CA, that would be $7 tops. The food was BAD. The rice had absolutely zero flavor, pinto beans were dry and had no flavor as well, and the enchiladas... you guessed it! They had no flavor! They were however smothered in sour cream and the chicken was super dry. The red sauce was the one thing that I could tolerate. I ended up dipping everything in it. The food did arrive quick and really hot. So I will give them that much. I think I had my standards set way high and unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. I'll stick to the Mexican food back in my home state from now on.

Hunger and delirium made me walk about 6 long blocks ( Times Square blocks btw) in 86 degree weather to here. I'm really happy the food was as good as some of the reviews said it was worth the walk. I got a quesadilla and Mexican nachos. The Mexican chicken nachos are soo damn good. My only regret was that I wish I ate it while it was still hot cause soggy nachos only taste good when you are hungry as hell. The prices are reasonable considering the hell hole Times Square being less than 2 blocks away. I'll def be back.

This place satisfies my need for Mexican food in Manhattan. The mole sauce that they put on their "Puebla Burrito" is amazing. The Signature burritos there can feed me for an entire day if eaten moderately throughout the day. Pricing is pretty good also. You are getting more food here for $8 than any other Mexican place around and I am even talking about the chains like Chipotle. The quesadilla grande is something that needs to be shared among several people during lunch especially if you have an entree already. Great food for a "hole in the wall" as they call it.

Wet burritos in New York! And it was goooooood. This flies in the faces of all the californyites who say there's no good 'Mexican' in New York - despite burritos being arguably Mexican. My Puebla variety was covered with sour cream and mole - I feel like they heard about NY's need for a wet burrito from Calicalites and they responded with their homestyle version. There is seating for 16 and I don't think it gets busy. The prices are nices and the service amounts to ordering at the counter and waiting for your order to be called. Efficiency saves on tipping. The flavors weren't strong enough to satisfy nerds but I was happy to find a pleasant, cheap, decent Mexican place in Hell's Kitchen - the best seating I've found in the genre yet.

Probably some of the most tasteless, bland food I've ever eaten. Ordered the chicken enchilada, chicken was not seasoned. Rice was not seasoned. No sauce. Just way too much sour cream and piles of undercooked onion. Went through my whole pantry to try to find some sort of taco sauce to get some flavor in there before realizing I'd rather be hungry than suffer through another bite. Girlfriend ordered the chorizo enchilada, which was just a sausage link wrapped in a tortilla. Lots of raw onion though. Also thrown out. Horchata was good!

My coworker told me try this place as opposed to going to Chiptole. Their burritos are amazing and there is a good variety of styles to pick from. I have been coming to here for about 5 years and I still can't decide which one is my favorite. Burritos are huge and savory. Whether I eat here or get it delivered. I am always satisfied with my meal. The place is small. There a few tables to sit. The turnaround is quick and I am never disappointed with my burrito. Its my go to place in the neighborhood that never disappoints.

I clearly love Mexican. nice small place, the food is OK, but plentiful. Fast service, very hole in the wall-esque. but it's not a hole in the wall you find where you're blown away. They deliver, but so do most places. They take credit cards, EVEN Amex

Cheapest pork chops in the area and you totally get what you pay for. Kind of like shoe leather in consistency, with a hint of bacon for flavor. Otherwise no flavor. Guacamole is watery. Very disappointed. Service is also rude and annoying. I had to argue to get the guac I paid for on seamless. Never again. El Rancho Finito.

This is definitely a dive bar... There is literally enough room in this place for about 5 people. Stumbled into this place as me and my friend were trying to catch a quick bite before a play later that evening. After checking the menu out, we decided to the prices were pretty cheap, so what the hell. I ordered the "Mexican Nachos" and a fish taco. The nachos were pretty good, the portions were pretty good sized, and everything tasted fresh. The fish taco was equally pleasing, although not the best fish taco. Overall I say this place is not a destination for dynamic Mexican food, but for the price it is quick, tasty, and pretty authentic.

Large portions that taste good at a very very reasonable price is right up my alley! I ordered through the Yelp App for my job, about 9 people, we were given a delivery time of 45 to 60 mins..well the food arrived in 25! I wouldnt say the food is mindblowing, but it was good and very afforadble.

My quest for an authentic mexican taco brought me here late on a Saturday night. My wallet was pleased, my stomach- partially. A mango jarritos made it better. I also saw that weird guy who may or may not work there. I closed the soda door for him a few times. +.5 star for the virgin Mary with Christmas lights and the holiday blanket talking about friends being the best presents.

Been coming here coz its close by (just opposite broadway dance center lol) An affordable find of Mexican food in this Hell's Kitchen area I usually get the fish tacos ($3.50) but they're beef tacos are good to me Total would be $8.11 with a fish taco, beef taco & soda. A simple Mexican meal but affordable and decent meal They have takeouts & deliveries 11am-11pm daily Monday to Sunday

The staff here are very friendly and a couple of staff started remembering my order every time I would come in because I wanted only certain things in my burrito. My only thing is that sometimes the tables are not always kept clean or the trash is overflowing or one time there were no napkins meaning it's not always being maintained but those were only very small and specific instances and not all the time. Burritos are huge and tasty!

This is decent Mexican food at a great price. It isn't five star, but it's a good amount of food that's well prepared. I've had the nachos and quesadilla. Both were good.

Hey ya'all. Just wanted to give an update on my favorite place to go in Hell's Kitchen for a good burrito. Yeah, Hell's Kitchen is cluttered with 10 restaurants per block and it can get pretty difficult to choose a place to chow-down at. I've been living here since long before the place became gentrified, and eating at El Rancho back when it was named La Paloma, before the place had it's kitchen fire. Yep, I'm an ol'timer. I must have eaten over 100 Acapulco burritos, my staple at the place, even though I've never been to the famous Mexican resort city. yum, Yum, YUM! El Rancho is also BYOB - no, not bring your own buggers, it's Bring Your Own Beer, or whatever fluid you wanna inebriate on. As you know, most restaurants make their money from selling booze, not food. So you can save yourselves some $$ by coming here to eat, just don't go too crazy with the Dos Equis. They also have free WiFI and even a bathroom! The place is a hole-in-the-wall, but I love holey-walls and dive bars. It's clean, the staff is friendly, the food is exceptionally good and the price is right. What more can you ask for? [Oh, and Rudy's is just across the street, and if you haven't been there you need to go NOW!]

Tasty and large size burrito. Great for takeaway in a night you just don't want to cook. Wish it was a little bit More spicy but loved it just the same. Had their beef burrito with ack beans.

This place serves burritos on a plate. You can't pick them up.
