El Rey Tacos

El Rey Tacos was such a great experience! The food was delicious and the portion sizes were perfect and super satisfying without feeling overdone. The atmosphere was open, inviting, and very clean, which I really appreciated. The staff was friendly, and I loved being able to watch the fresh tortillas being made right in front of us. They offer a great selection of sauces, and the fact that they have foil and plastic wrap available for leftovers is a major plus and such a thoughtful touch. I ordered the carne asada (steak) bowl with everything except pico de gallo on the side, and it was packed with flavor. My friend had extra corn, so I tried some of that too, and it was delicious. I also had the barbacoa (lamb) taco, which was very good! And the chicken from the chicken taco was so very well seasoned! We honestly wanted to order more, but we're saving a few things for our next visit. We're definitely going back and more than likely probably sooner rather than later!

Delicious Mexican food, particularly the steak quesadilla, with a great selection of salsas across the spicy spectrum. Staff are friendly and the place is quick and casual so perfect for a pre-theater meal, plus it’s less manic than the similar-vibe Los Tacos No 1. It’s always great to find a place in Times Square/Bryant Park that isn’t a ripoff or horribly overstimulating so El Rey will become a regular spot.

Nice taco spot with many taco varieties to choose. Plenty of seating for dinning indoors. Also there is a salsa bar to get your own sauces for your tacos and chips. 🌮🌮🌮

When I picked up my bag to take home I didn’t think there was anything in it initially. There was however a plate covered in cheap thin already torn aluminum foil. No to go containers just a a paper plate, I’d never order delivery from here. The taco was notably smaller than anything they advertised, and still a rip-off even with buy one get one free. I do not recommend.

Wow—just wow! These are hands down the best tacos I’ve ever had near Bryant Park. The customer service is excellent, and the guac with chips is absolutely delicious. I’ll let the picture speak for itself!

It reminds me of Mexico City! really impressed by the quality of the tortillas. I tried the Carne Asada, Carnitas, and Panucho Yucateco (a.k.a. Cochinita). All delicious! Great tortillas, flavorful meat, and excellent salsa. No frills, just amazing. It might look easy to pull this off, but it’s not. No complaints at all. There are plenty of great taco spots that have opened recently in NYC, but this one truly stands out.

Super friendly staff, authentic food. Wasn’t very busy which was a big surprise! Food was great and satisfied exactly the taco craving I had.

I LOVED THIS PLACE, i accidentally stumbled across it with my friend and we decided to just check it out. The food was PERFECT and delicious, i could definitely only eat at their restaurant for the rest of my life. (it made me want to gatekeep) The customer service is so good they are so sweet, nice and helpful. And the atmosphere was really good. It was very empty when i went but the music was a 10/10. Would definitely visit again!!!

I was grabbed by the arm and was demanded to pay 1.00 to someone who I said No to and they left while I was waiting for my food. I didn't like the community salsa bowls, it's NYC-- these should be behind the counter and provided by employees. This is a take out friendly space, and the food had a lot of flavor. I enjoyed a veggie quesadillas and steak tacos. I really enjoyed their chicharron with guacamole! Reasonably priced. Friendly service. Good food. Just stay aware of your surroundings.

For those of you who enjoy Los Tacos No. 1 like myself, El Rey is for you. That said, if I have to choose between them, I would hands down choose this place because theirs are BETTER (my faves are the "Barbacoa" and "Panucha Yucateco") and their "Esquites Trufados" - aka truffle corn - is so damn delicious and flavorful it blasts Tacombi's corn out the water. Added bonus: They just added taco bowls to the menu so you can keep your hands clean. Woot! Brought to you by the same family that owns Casa Carmen, El Rey solidly delivers the same delicious food and outstanding service. So if you're looking for a quick and inexpensive food stop before a show or picking something for lunch in Bryant Park, I HIGHLY recommend this spot. You're welcome.

Came here because my friend and I were craving Mexican but wanted affordable filling food. I loved how clean and organized everything was. The menus were straightforward and translated into English. The salsa bar is also always appreciated. Everything is kept fresh and there's plenty of napkins and tongs and containers for salsas and limes. Now let's get to the food. My first round yes there were multiple round I got a Taco Panucho Yucateco which had slow braised shredded pork on a bed of black refried beans topped with pickled red onions and let's just say they do not skimp on the proteins! The corn tortillas are rolled and pressed fresh to order I do wish they were a bit thicker or maybe 2 tortillas to hold up all the meat, next I got a steak quesadilla with was just an opened face taco and the cheese was melted on the flattop but also soo delicious. I got the corn and I was pleasantly surprised with the truffle mayo it was topped with, perfect balance of truffle definitely different from traditional esquites. Next round I got a steak and chicken taco. All the meats are so flavorful and delicious not dry at all. I got the horchata and the watermelon mint agua and the staff was lovely enough to give me a sample of the Jamaica agua fresca which was also soo refreshing. You can tell the staff loves to work her and they were all welcoming and thanking you for coming in. Definitely recommend this place, I kept thinking about it the following day!

The summer of tacos in NYC continues with yet another Incredible new taco spot, this one from the Casa Carmen team. Like a Los Tacos No. 1 (ordering style and menu) mixed with Taqueria Ramirez (taco quality and plastic plates). Probably too good for the neighborhood it's in (a few steps from Times Square), but it's an easy choice now over the lines you'll probably see at the nearby Los Tacos No. 1 locations.

This review is based on the pricing and meat I got for my tacos. Obviously I'm not oblivious to the pricing of food in midtown but this will be the last time I ever stop by a taco joint in this part of town. I ordered 2 lamb tacos *barbacoa* priced at $5.95 each - and a water - total came out to $17. SMH Let me start off with something positive which was the salsa station. They had different spice levels which was a cute little station. Now let's move on to the tacos - the tortilla was one thin tortilla unlike most Mexican spots that put 2. My tacos got soggy and fell apart because the tortilla wasn't strong enough to hold the meat together. The lamb was nasty and I LOVE lamb. But the flavor was not it. Service was fast as the establishment was empty. Other than that I was NOT feeling the taste NOR the price. Not gonna go back here.

Absolutely unacceptable experience. I placed a delivery order from El Rey Tacos ($103.76) and never received my food. When I tried calling the restaurant the same night, no one answered because they had already closed--leaving me with no support and no delivery. The next day I spoke with Santiago, who acknowledged the issues and said a refund would be issued. It's been over a week, and no refund has been processed. Toast Support also confirmed that no refund was ever initiated on the restaurant's side. Between the lack of delivery, no communication, and no accountability, this has been a terrible experience start to finish. I would not trust ordering delivery from here again.

I've ordered catering from El Rey Tacos for my office in midtown and everything was a hit! Everything was super fresh and arrived right on time for lunch. The guac & chips are also great and love the veg options!

Delicious well stuffed tacos with homemade corn tortillas. They were better than Los Taco no 1 and far less busy.

Just had a carnitas taco as a snack- wanted to try this new place. Delicioso. Staff super nice. Much preferred to Los tacos no1 I will be back!!

This is slowly becoming my go to lunch spot! The carnitas is so good, great portion sizes, and quick. They also hand make the tortillas right there.

Appearances...the taste was not bad but that is definitely not my idea of a quesadilla. I was picking up lunch. The food was served exactly how you see it with a piece of foil to cover it. I'm just old school expecting a to go bowl. Just not a place I would go back to.
