El Zaguán Mexican Bistro replaces El Sombrero in Downtown Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"Operating out of a building constructed in 1935 on Main Street, this long-running Mexican restaurant had served downtown diners since 1950 before closing without fanfare last year. The 2,640-square-foot stand-alone space was last refreshed in 2014, when owner Irma Aguirre (of Mundo fame) overhauled the exterior, interior design and menu. The brand drew controversy in 2016 after a high-profile visit from then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, which prompted political boycotts, and the future of the location’s decades-old, neon-trimmed rooftop billboard remains uncertain as new owners prepare to relaunch the site under a different name and with a revamped menu." - Bradley Martin

Got the carnitas, and they were amazing. Fresh and vibrant flavors. Paid $11-12 which is steep but I guess MD prices. Would love to try other things on the menu as the taste is top notch. I recommend this place as the food is made to order and you can tell the owners care—muchas gracias!

Went to this wonderful restaurant on Cinco De Mayo. Was greeted with kindness,, and got a table immediately. Restaurant chips & salsa upon sitting. Two very large Margaritas followed... Ordering a shrimp stir fry & 3 soft beef tacos! Delicious 😋 Was not rushed, and we were treated like royalty. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon.

Good service, delicious food, fresh ingredients. Everything could use a little more seasoning but overall a very authentic Mexican meal, well worth the price. Nice quiet location as well. The mixed fajita tasted very fresh, with tender meats. Menudo soup was very tasty and slightly spicy as it should be. Even the chicken fingers with fries for our daughter were delicious. Give it a try.

We love El Sombrero. They serve authentic Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. The staff always treats us with courtesy, and the food is delicious. We're usually there at least once per week.

Delicious food, well-seasoned and not too oily. Tacos came with two shells each, and the beef taco was particularly tasty. Fries were hot, fresh, and plump. Excellent Salsa!

I have gone to this restaurant several times, especially since it's really close to my office. Their food is better than average, and the service is good. However, after I went today, I'm never going back. I understand that inflation happens and prices need to go up, but, they have taken this to a whole new level. I ordered chips and guacamole, which was $7.99, and the order was pretty small, and the guacamole was served on a 4oz container. I ordered salsa thinking it was complimentary, I was charged $2.99 for it. And a plain water bottle was $3.50. I don't mind paying for food, if Chipotle charged what they charged, Chipotle would go out of business. It's a shame, because their food is decent, but charging such prices for sides is ridiculous.

Great, great, great place for tacos and tortas!!! When it comes to a Mexican food, I get very picky and demanding. We ordered to go, had tacos, tortas and a slice of tres leches cake. The tacos were king, did not disappoint. It came with the works (chopped onion and cilantro with a side of radish, cucumber, lime and green onion), just the way we eat it at least in Mexico city 😋 The sopes comes in a order of 3, choose your poison of meat 😄, even though stull needs some improvements, it was a good dish and great size seving. The torta... well another amazing delicuos surprise. We got al pastor (pork marinated meat). The bread was perfect and so was everything they add to it. If you really would like to know how it's done, this is the place to try an authentic Mexican torta. Only downfall was... the tres leches, I was open to the idea to be surprised but they let me down with it. I was expecting a real delicious slice and it was only a piece of cake soaked in a mix of milk and condensed milk. Not the best pice I have tried, but will definitely come back to get some more tacos and tortas.
