"El Sur, known for serving Argentinan-style empanadas, has closed its cafe at 300 De Haro Street in Potrero Hill." - Paolo Bicchieri

"Roaming empanada operation El Sur found its permanent home in Potrero Hill a few years back, quickly gaining a following for additions like breakfast empanadas: the tartiflette, with bacon, onion, potato, cheese, and egg; and the verdura, with braised greens, onion, potato, goat cheese, and egg. Owner Marianne Despres has since added medialunas, basically a smaller, Argentine cousin to the croissant, and dulce de leche churros. Fans can also order a box of 24 frozen empanadas for free home delivery, to always have one on hand." - Daisy Barringer, Eater Staff

Google
Traditional Argentinian empanadas. About as good as what I had in Buenos Aires. It's a small and cozy space, for a snack or quick lunch. Or take out. We get them delivered as well and it's a good option to keep in the freezer and pull out last minute.

Clifford Cohn

Google
Steak, ground beef, and mushroom empanadas were all amazing. The chicken skewers were also very delicious. The two ladies were so friendly! Also had a high chair for our toddler. Will be back.

Jerry Eady

Google
Nice counter people. Food is excellent. We do takeout, but the space is pleasant to do a lunch. And there is free parking next to the shop. Highly recommended.

Jelena Fong

Google
We ordered catering for our office happy hour and the owner delivered them herself! Delivery was prompt even though the weather that day was atrocious and food was piping hot! Best part was that they were delicious! We ordered the protein and veg package so there's something for everyone and it even included a fresh salad. It made the choice easy and I will definitely order from them again.

Google
End to end great and authentic experience. High quality ingredients. Great for healthy takeout ordering.always have these empanadas in the freezer. Real coffee... (!!!)

Google
Simple, tasty, clean. Friendly service. Like the food truck but with indoor seating. Some vegetarian and vegan options, not a lot overall though.

Google
Delicious empanadas, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service. This has become our go-to spot whenever we’re craving authentic Argentinian empanadas

Nancy Nascimento

Google
The empanadas are authentic, delicious and baked! So good with the chimichurri sauce.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! A true gem in Redwood City. A must try for lovers of Argentinian food. You can tell everything is hand made with love. Such a beautiful location. I recommend dining in the cafe where you will be greeted with a smile and experience excellent service. I will be back soon to try more delecacies from the menu.

Yelp
The two varieties of vegetarian empanadas I've had from El Sur were good. Neither one stood out enough that I remember what it had in it. It feels like the Latin American equivalent of Peasant Pies. Take that as you will.

Greg M.

Yelp
My family really likes empanadas and we have tried almost every place in the San Francisco Bay Area. We believe El Sur is one of the top two places. The main reason we like them is there is a lot of filling in each empanada. Several of the other places have too much bread and very little filling.

Robert R.

Yelp
The best empanadas in the bay! The restaurant is run by an adorable Argentinian family, and the love comes through in their food. I usually get the traditional and Saltado, but every flavor is outstanding. The crust is so perfectly flakey, usually other empanadas I can skip on parts of the crust- but not here. Worth getting the catering/frozen bags too, I've never had so many of our party appetizers gobbled up as I have with the mini empanadas. Don't forget to get the chimichurri! And Delicious Churros!

Steph C.

Yelp
Highly recommend these locked and loaded flavorful Argentina empanadas. Luckily, my work hosted a lunch to showcase LatinX month so I had the opportunity to try this place. I must say everything was really good. I tried these empanadas: Championes (FAV) Prosciutto (another fav lol) Carne Sauve Meat - spicy!! Pollo Saltado On another note, the chimichurri sauce was good, and their salad was so fresh. For dessert, the Alfajores is an absolute must! Thank you work for expanding my palate Lolol :)

Yelp
Come for the empanadas, stay for the chill aesthetic vibes... Right at the base of Potrero Hill, this now brick-and-mortar family business is serving up hot flaky empanadas! There's plenty of street parking and a couple in the immediate lot. Easily accessible by bus as well. Features cafe-style seating proving a great place to meet up and hang out for a glass of wine. Would not come with a group larger than 4. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable; willing to talk through any dietary restrictions. I've honestly tried many of the flavors and can confidently say you can't go wrong! The empanadas are Argentinean style with french culinary flair. This pairing is a perfect harmony for the tasty stuffy and buttery crust. Their meat is locally sourced here in Northern California at Five Dot Ranch and you can taste the love folded into each bite. Fun fact: they first sold these out of a Citroën H-Type van, if you're not familiar look it up!! Great idea for catering too~

Yelp
Excellent empanadas! 4.5 star. However, way too picante for my Argentinean friends in BA. I enjoyed the crust and the filling. Mushroom was my favorite. This location is not a store, but you can order take out onsite. Parking is very limited.

Brunella C.

Yelp
Finally a good place for empanadas in San Francisco! We were greeted by a friendly woman. There are not a lot of options but still a good variety. Nice small place, with details of Buenos Aires on the walls. Empanadas: 6152782/10 The dough is good, nice flavor. A lot of filling! -Verde: Usually veggie empanadas don't have olives but it was good. -Carne suave: A little bit sweet but still liked the flavor. -Parisien: Wow... it's a better version of the classic ham and cheese. The green onion and chive elevate it at another level. My favorite! Salsas: All of them are good! A liiiiiitle bit spicy for my taste but I get it, here everything is spicy. Please add Humita, Caprese and Onion & Cheese or Bell Pepper and Cheese! Pleeeeease! As an Uruguayan (empanadas are part of our culture) I approve this place *happy tears Bad for my diet but the calories are so worth it!

Angie Y.

Yelp
I ordered a champinones empanada, after seeing the El Sur food truck at West Coast Craft. It was amazing, the dough crispy on the outside, and chewy on the inside. The empanada was filled with juicy, warm mushrooms and cheese. Super fragrant and bursting with flavor!!

Eddie W.

Yelp
Empanadas are some of the worst ever and make me wanna go back to Miami. Friendly staff but not very appealing.

Franz T.

Yelp
Order hot food pickup of empanadas for a picnic this afternoon. Order process was very easy and clear. Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity of the food. Business was easy to find, ample parking (in lot or on street) and pickup was ready at designated time (easy-least). The empanadas are very tasty...I bought some of each variety. All the flavors (meat and veggie) are delicious. First time eating their Manzana (sweet apple)...not disappointed...so good...an apple hand pie. One empanada makes a good snack...2-3 can a meal. They were still warm/not when I got them to the picnic. Every is enjoying as I type this review. Great place, great service, a must visit business.

Yelp
Was treated to a lunch special from El Sur and my goodness was it delicious! In my box, I had 2 Traditional empanadas which featured Hand cut Five Dot Ranch beef, onion, oregano, pimentón, red pepper flake, olive, egg. The beef was so remarkably tender and I absolutely loved the salty tang from the green olives! Definitely would have again. I kind of wished I had an opportunity to try a different flavored empanada for my second one, but beggars can't be choosers so that'll have to wait another day. I am taking off a star because my second one might have spent a couple minutes too long in the oven. It was on the toasty side which added some unwelcomed bitter notes (should have eaten this one first). With the lunch special I also received a hearty side salad which a lot of crunchy radishes and fennel slivers. It was really quite good! To finish it off, we got a dulce de leche alfajores cookie. Not gonna lie, it could have used a little more dulce de leche. Definitely interested in potentially getting a box of frozen ones some day. Its totally worth it and I can attest that 2 full empanadas is very filling for a person on the smaller side.

Yelp
El Sur empanadas are one of those things so near and dear to my heart I forget to write about them. I used to live in Potrero Hill right near their home base. I was happy to run into their truck outside spousies old work in Embarcadero. I think I even ran into their truck at Flower Piano or a similar music festival. Wherever I spot them, I know it is time for my favorite champiñones empanada with the perfect blend of squidgey delicious luxe cheeses. Since crossing the great bridge again into 510, these days it's order them on Good Eggs time. Still that same great taste experience!

Yelp
Yes, you can make a meal out of empanadas. Two will usually do the job, but three if you're really hungry. While the sauces are nice, they're probably not worth paying extra for since the empanadas bring enough flavor of their own. Carne Suave: It's not quite Rico Suave, but still quite good. Flavorful ground beef and spices in a flaky buttery crust. Didn't feel as thick and needlessly bready as other empanadas. Maybe less sturdy for transport, but delicious on the lunch table. Parisien: It was like a ham & cheese hot pocket, but with fancy ingredients. Lots of cheese too, which I really appreciate. And felt like two types of ham, one was thick and one as thin. Very rich too, probably the most filling empanada of the batch. Pollo Saltado: Felt very much like the carne suave, but with chicken chunks rather than ground beef. Really liked the texture, felt more like a meal than a snack. Chimichurri: Green herbs in a tangy, though not spicy, sauce. Pairs well with the carne and pollo empanadas, enhancing them without overpowering them. Salsa Criolla: Not quite like the loose chunks of pickled onions and bell peppers you'd expect in other things named salsa criolla. All ground up, like gazpacho. It was refreshing in its own right, but it kinda overpowered the empanadas, which didn't need the distraction. Churros: Everything is better with dulce de leche! The churros themselves didn't taste as fluffy as freshly fried churros, but the gooey sweetness inside made up for it.

Yelp
My mother sent a package of 12, that included traditional, pollo saltado, and parisien empanadas. It was such a lovely treat. They arrived in a box, with packaged coolant. I immediately placed them in the freezer. I baked one of each this morning and enjoyed them immensely. The cooking instructions specified using convection. My oven didn't have that feature, so I increased temp by 25 degrees, which worked well. I was a little disappointed because some of the juiciness escaped 2/3. My favorite was the parisien and the pollo saltado. I enjoyed the traditional, but it was a bit on the drier side. When we order again, I think we will include one of the salsas. I look forward to trying the others and sending them as gifts.

Yelp
Love this place! We wanted to get empanadas and found the flash-frozen empanadas on the online store -- but needed a rush order. Michael was so lovely and responded to all my messages, and then fit me into their same-day delivery schedule super seamlessly. He was so nice! The empanadas were delivered well packaged and sealed, with a freezer bag-within-a-box. I'm excited to have them for our party tomorrow. Thank you El Sur!

Ashley L.

Yelp
Delicious empanadas, chill vibes I randomly came here while waiting for a friend at portrero hill. Found it on Google maps. They have a variety of empanadas to choose from. The lady at the counter said she liked the chicken and traditional but also recommended the mushroom. Ended up going with the traditional and mushroom. Both were delicious! The pastry was not too thick and had plenty of filling. Would definitely come back to try the other flavors and maybe bring a book to read.

Anthony W.

Yelp
Wow, these empanadas are good! I get them via BentoCart delivery and they arrive hot, flaky and delicious. I bet it's even better on site! I have tried every flavor, can recommend all of them but especially the Carne Suave Empanada.

Kyle W.

Yelp
This place was one of the vendors for the Uber National Intern Day offering catered food at the Hellman Hollow. It was one of the most underrated stalls which is surprising because the food was actually pretty good. There was a lot of empanadas sitting there inviting the interns to grab some. I had the luxury to try out 5 kinds of empanadas, but my personal favorite is the traditional, which has beef inside. If bought individually, the price can get pretty steep, as I think that I would need around 2-3 for me to be full. For the most part, the empanadas are wrapped really well, with some minor burns here and there which is okay considering that this is catering and they need to make a large batch to serve us. Overall, I enjoyed the empanadas a lot as it was flavorful and very slightly crispy. The traditional one had beef inside, the pollo saltado had chicken, the Parisien had ham and cheese, the Verde has spinach, and the Champiñones had mushroom. Props to them for offering excellent vegetarian options, as I think that aside from the beef traditional empanadas, I fell in love with the Verde one. I would be love to complete the menu by checking this place out again in the future to try out their Carne Suave, which has ground beef inside.

Yelp
I ordered during the outbreak. Next day delivery was impressive. No contact. Cannot rave enough about the food. First off, the sauces are divine. They pair perfectly with all the empanada types. I ordered a selection of 24 and we cannot stop eating them. In only a few days we have eaten almost 12 with just two of us in the house. About to place a second order. You should too. Support local business and make your stomach happy in the process.

Yelp
Take Out during Covid-19 Overall: 7.5/10 I started to love empanadas when I first tried it in San Francisco not long ago. It is usually 10 dollars each in the restaurant so I am super excited to find this 5/6 dollars each empanadas shop and they are delicious! I ordered the frozen one to bake at home, it is 60 dollars for 12 which is a good value! Parisien: 8/10 Yes I love ham and cheese one! Pollo Saltado: 7.5/10 Super delicious! It is not like the usual empanadas I had before and it's like putting some red pasta sauce's chicken into the dough to me! Carne Suave: 6/10 Hmmm this is not my thing. I had to give it all to my husband.

Albert C.

Yelp
Such a fanstastic & deserved- Yelp recommended restaurant! Totally loved the vibe, the food smells, the kind & polite owner. But the food--my tummy could tell you stories of the gymnastics due to the delicate, butteriness and it's moisture! As for the symphony of lightly flavored ground beef, synchronizing with the potatoes, or the mushroom & cheese masterpiece! Truly inspired, delicious, & beautiful empanadas. All 5 Stars for terrific and truly memorable Argentina-style empanadas!

Kathryn C.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken empanadas via bento cart. It's well packaged. Easy to keep in the freezer. Easy to bake. Juicy and delicious. I will order again!

Tracy F.

Yelp
Best empanadas I've ever had!!! Love the option of eating at onsite or ordering frozen empanadas to be delivered to my house.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Renegade Crafts Fair in SF. I wanted the meal but ended up with two empanada. Also they didn't have their namesake empanada which was weird. I really enjoyed both of my empanada although they were a bit greasy. Probably one of the better food trucks at the fair - all three of us visited different trucks. Would return

Yoali L.

Yelp
El Sur has the best empanadas, and they were the perfect choice for our wedding! Although based in San Francisco, we were able to try El Sur's empanadas at a food truck gathering in Menlo Park, and reached out to them prior to ask about pricing and such. They asked about any empanadas we were interested in trying, and if we would need any vegetarian or vegan options. We requested to try some of the popular flavors, and they were kind enough to bring some vegan/GF options for our guests with dietary restrictions. All the empanadas and vegan/GF options were DELICIOUS, and we knew we wanted to book them for our wedding. And we got to meet the owner Marianne who was super nice and ran through all the details with us. We didn't worry about anything with El Sur, we knew they were going to provide an amazing dinner for our guests, and our guests LOVED them. We had guests going back for more, and our vegan/GF were very happy with the options available to them. Thank you so much, El Sur, for making our special day so tasty! Much love, The Zadigs

Denise C.

Yelp
I was at the Conservatory of Flowers Summer Solstice event last night. There were a bunch of food trucks there and people were lining up madly. I decided to line up at El Sur. I just really wanted a drink($2). I decided to pick up an empanada($5). I got the traditional with beef. The empanada was a little bit smaller than I'd really like. Empanada crust really is the biggest factor towards satisfaction. The crust was typical and not moist enough for me. A little bit hard and brittle. It was a decent snack, but a little bit overpriced. Review #1300

Yelp
Fantastic find! I have an Argentinean coworker who told me that of all the empanada places he's eaten at, this is the one place that reminds him the most of home. I love a good empanada, so we ordered this for an office lunch, and this was a success for everyone. We got the chicken, mushroom, and verde empanadas along with a split of mixed greens and quinoa salads. I can't speak for the mixed green, but the quinoa salad was so good. It was that nice balance of crunch and savory and good texture. I personally cannot bring myself to eat chickpeas, but their salad and dressing was a winning combo. The chicken had a bit of a kick to it, which I loved. The mushroom was just exquisite. The cheese, onion, and mushrooms combo was amazing. The food was so good that this definitely deserves a spot in the office lunch rotation. Thank you Rodrigo and Ducil? I'm probably misspelling her name, but they were so kind and helpful. Their hospitality was second to none. They gave me great tips and it was a joy to coordinate with them. I will definitely come back.

Andrea Y.

Yelp
The best empanadas! The lunch special, 2 empanadas and salad was so satisfying! I'm bringing all my friends here and you should too! It was so good I decided to go back and pick up a dozen to bake at home for my family.

Erin C.

Yelp
Excellent vegetarian and chicken empanadas. The flavors are so so so good. Sauces are excellent as well. Their service is also just beyond wonderful. We ordered very very last minute frozen empanadas to be delivered all the way to the south bay for a Thanksgiving event and they made it work even though they were closed on the day we needed the empanadas.l Would definitely order from here again, especially for a group dining event/picnic because the empanadas are grab and go and you don't worry about people contaminating other people's food (if you're trying to have an outdoor covid-safe picnic).

Sandy G.

Yelp
I've been a big fan of El Sur for years now. The empanadas have always been consistently delicious and well made (my favorites are the Parisien and Carne Suave), and the salad dressing is so good! But I've been even more impressed since COVID hit - El Sur quickly pivoted to a take-away and delivery/shipping model, and these wonderful pockets of flavor have been bringing a sense of normalcy to our quarantined home. We now try to keep a batch of them in our freezer at all times (you know, in case of an empanada emergency). Their efficient packing/shipping process has given me the opportunity to introduce these to family down in SoCal, and I've created new converts in them! :) Thanks, El Sur. Keep up the good and delicious work!

Misha T.

Yelp
The empanadas are pretty good! They're just kinda pricy. Like two empanadas and a side salad for $14 is tough considering it's not really all that much food. Anyways, I had the original beef one and the mushroom one. I think the beef was probably the better of the two. The mix of spices was really spot on. The mushroom one was good, but perhaps a bit too heavy. It is chock full of cheese, so bring your lactaid if you need that sorta stuff.

F F.

Yelp
I tried their empanadas at my office event and it was good. for the holiday, I placed an online order from their website on 12/22 for next day pick up 12/23. The system took my 3 dozen order and my credit card payment. I also have an email receipt from them. When I got to SF at noon time on 12/23, surprisingly their restaurant was closed. Their website and google didn't mention any of the hour changes. I called and ring the doorbell multiple times. No one answered. I waited for an hour around and thought the owner may come back. I can't get hold of anyone. It is very disappointing that I drove an hour to pick up the food for the holiday but didn't get anything. They really need to update their holiday business hours if it's changed. The online ordering system should have blocked these orders. I emailed their information multiple times as well. Hope I can reach someone on Monday if they are open. This is a waste of my time and a change of holiday dinner plan! I will NOT order from there again and will NOT recommend their business, No credibility as a small business.

Yelp
The first empanada I've ever tasted was homemade by my Argentinian friend, and she's set the bar pretty high. I've been in search for empanadas that taste just as good ever since. And after feeling disappointed at three other popular spots in the city, my search finally ended at El Sur. The crust is perfectly baked and I like many of their fillings. My favorites are the Traditional and Carne Suave.

Nina W.

Yelp
I visited the El Sur food truck when I went to the SF Renegade Craft Fair at Fort Mason Center over last weekend. The food truck basically serves different kinds of empanadas. They had 3 meat flavors and 2 vegetarian flavors, and all of them sounded really good. Since they were at an event, it seems like the had a more expensive pricing than what I was seeing from pictures on Yelp. They had a lunch special with choice of two empanadas and a churro for $12. My sister and I ended up getting the lunch special and tried the Traditional and Parisien. I found the Parisien to be an interesting flavor because on their menu they explained this flavor as having "kurobuta ham." I wonder how many average people know what that is, maybe some food forward people might. Kurobuta is literally "Black Pig" (Berkshire pig) which is basically the pork equivalent of Kobe Beef supposedly. I thought both the empanadas were very delicious. The traditional was definitely more flavorful and spiced compared to the Parisien. But I did like the Parisien because it was very creamy. The churro was also delicious, but it was just so soaked in oil that I was actually a bit scared to eat it. My only complaint about the food was that it wasn't super fresh and not as hot as I would like. They pretty much had the food ready and sitting there so once you order you would get the food right away. Overall, I would say the food was good but it was a bit on the pricier end. Pros: - Good variety of flavors for empanadas - Had lunch specials - Very quick service, convenience Cons: - A bit pricey - Food is not super fresh, not served hot - Food is a bit greasy and oily (specifically the churro)

Malcolm R.

Yelp
I placed an order, choosing six different types, and they arrived (frozen) the next day. I've now had three of them, the Pollo Saltado (chicken, onion, tomato, serrano, parsley, onion, egg), Traditional (hand-cut Five Dot Ranch beef, onion, oregano, red pepper flake, pimentón, olive, egg), and Parisien (Kurobuta ham, prosciutto, green onion, 5 cheeses, chive). All have been wonderful.

Nolan R.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and got the empanada meal to go, they were delicious and not too expensive. Will definitely be coming back for quick lunches in the future.

Sabby T.

Yelp
Of late I have developed a liking towards empanadas and mushroom empanadas to be specific. This place didn't disappoint at all! The inside was perfection, outside could have been a little crunchy.

Christina N.

Yelp
MY company caters lunch from here and the empanadas here are so good, it always runs out if you dont get in line early enough! The empanadas are tasty and best eaten warm. The champinones (mushroom) is my favorite, though the ham one is good too. Yum yum!

Sarah S.

Yelp
The El Sur is usually out the Renegade Crafts Fair in SF. So glad that I tried it last time I was there! I had the mushroom empanada and my only regret was that I didn't order 2. I like that you can make it a meal by adding a side salad as well. The bottom of the empanada was a little thin and thus a little greasy (which made the bag messy) but it was delicious!

Bea S.

Yelp
We love empanadas, meat pies, hand pies, et. We even have a favorite recipe we make at home with a side of our own creamy cilantro garlic sauce or our own chimichurri. But they are time consuming to make, for sure. So when I saw their FB ad I had to try it. It is $120 for 24 empanadas, plus $15 delivery charge because I live 2.5 hours away. That comes out to be about $5.80 per empanada. I know some people find that pricey but considering I didn't have to do the drive or make them it's on par with other empanadas I've tried around the Bay Area and Tahoe. My delivery was delayed by two days. I don't think it was lost for two days because it still came frozen and I was able to get it in the freezer quick. But I will have to remember that there may be delays if I'm on a time crunch. I got a heads up for the first day but I had to reach out on the second to find out it was going to be delayed another day and I reached out again day of to confirm. Customer service is quick and friendly. I ordered the hand cut beef, the ground beef, and the chicken. Then I ordered the ham and cheese. As far as the taste, unfortunately the ham and cheese is my favorite. I really wanted to like the ground beef one which is my usual go to for any empanada place. But I felt like El Sur's was too saucey, had too much onions and the taste was very olive forward. When we make it at home and when we eat empanadas elsewhere (like at Empanash in Tahoe) these little pockets of yum are fully stuffed with ground beef. In El Sur's frozen ones I felt like there was more fillers than meat. Except in the chicken one. That one was hefty but I've only tried one so far. As far as taste, the chicken, hand cut beef and ground beef all pretty much taste the same except hand cut has a kick to it . Was hoping for more of a variation. The ham and cheese was nice. It's a fancier elevated hot pocket made with love. Perfect for a snack or for my kiddo's breakfast. When I baked it the first time juice from the beef and cheese from the ham just went everywhere. I lost a lot of the filling too, it exploded when it was in the oven. That kinda bummed me out because some parts were burnt and it lost its shape or got dry. It was such a bummer that I didn't want to give them away to my friends as gift because I was afraid it would happen to them too. The empanadas did not look pretty because of that. I tried it a second time with a smaller pan so everything was snug and no juice or filling came out at all. Maybe that's the trick?! All in all I'm glad I tried it. Would I order $135 worth of frozen empanadas again? Probably not. But I'd definitely stop by if I was in the city and they were easily accessible. I'd like to try their other flavors. It's a long review but dropping $120 with one click isn't always that easy for some folks so I wanted to be thorough.

Marilyn T.

Yelp
A friend highly recommended their empanadas, so we got them for an event. They came parbaked, and it only takes about 10 min at 425 degrees F to reheat them. Served hot, they were super popular. We got the traditional and the verde, and the verde (vegetarian) was super popular considering it had no meat. The traditional one was a hit, too - people were fighting for the extras. The crust to filling ratio was good, and they use quality ingredients like Five Dot ranch beef. We made some chimichurri and guacamole to go with the empanadas, but they're great on their own. Rodrigo and the rest of the team were super easy to work with. You can get their truck or do takeout for a smaller order, which is what we did. Pickups are in the Mission Monday to Friday.

Mary S.

Yelp
Good empanadas. We got the beef and the chicken, which tasted the same but were both very flavorful. At $6 a pop though, they were not cheap! Also the cashier tried to charge me for 3 empanadas. I prefer El Porteno, which has less expensive empanadas with more unique fillings (including desserts).

Yelp
I stopped by El Sur to try their mushroom and their spinach empanadas , both did not disappoint. The flaky pastry and the well stuffed empanadas were very tasty and filling. I also loved the side salad made with a very flavorful yet light lemon vinaigrette that comes when you purchase the lunch special. I took home a beef empanada for my hubby to try and he enjoyed the flavor of the beef . I will be back again !

Yelp
I had discovered El Sur about 5 months ago with a friend. After a busy morning we were both starving before we got back on the freeway and that's where the story started. My husband and I just had a holiday party for over 50 people and I remembered thinking that El Sur's empanadas might be a great main course. I phoned Rodrigo and it went like clockwork. We decided on the selection, their driver delivered the hot empanadas down the 25 miles to our house and our guests were "over the top" eating these delicious empanadas. We couldn't be happier.

Yelp
These empanadas are a meal! Perfectly browned on the outside, and not doughy, but flaky crusts. The beef and chicken seem to have the same base, but it's very tasty. The ham and cheese is very rich. I saved the spinach for today, but it looks amazing. The apple was flavorful, but I would have preferred a crispier texture to the apple. It was a tad mushy for my taste. The crust was excellent though.

Yelp
I saw them on Caviar delivery & decided to try a different empanada vendor. We usually order from nearby Chalos. Thus, I scheduled a pre-order on 4/26 for delivery on 4/29 between 11 am and 11:30 am. When? At 11:05 a.m.! Everything went fine with the pre-order. However, today (4/29), the day of delivery they sent me both a text and email message (via Caviar) to say that they wouldn't/couldn't fulfill my order and a refund would be done as they are closed! Closed? They are still showing on Caviar as being open. So El Sur should really revise their hours and information on the Caviar platform. Yet their Yelp info. shows that they are open today. But we all realize that Yelp info. can many times be inaccurate. Yet why are they listed on Caviar's platform still saying they can take orders when they really did not do as they claim for me I have no idea. All I can consider is to not have any confidence in their being open when they say they are. I would take my business elsewhere to be sure I'd get an order when I schedule one too. In fact, another recent Yelp reviewer said that they were able to secure a delivery. I'll just go back to ordering from either Chalos or another vendor next time.

Yelp
Yummm, we had Empanadas delivered to celebrate my husband's birthday!! Food was absolutely delicious and the delivery was quick and on time. We still have so much left over for another time.

Yelp
Totally next level. Totally great taste. Totally worth it! Going back again! We got the vegetarian spinach and cheese empanada. It had a crispy shell, and soft cheesy, spinachy fillings inside. I loved the occasional olive that I would encounter while munching on this delicious piece of heaven! We will come back for it, without a doubt!
