Attention Uptown New Orleans: You're going to want to hop on the streetcar and make your way to the Oak Street stop, because there's a brand new Mexican restaurant coming to your neighborhood, and we're bringing our authentic Oaxacan recipes -- passed down from generation to generation -- with us! Our chef is originally from Mexico, and our GM's been serving Mexican food in town for years now, which is why you'll find a menu full of traditional favorites and amazing craft cocktails waiting for you here. The other thing you'll find is a warm welcome. We're locally owned and keeping the spirit of Uptown New Orleans alive with our good time vibes and lively atmosphere. We have something for everyone at El Taco Loco, and we can't wait for you to come visit what's sure to become your new favorite spot in Carrollton.
"El Loco — now in a new location near Camellia Grill — is the real deal, offering deeply savory meats including chorizo and tinga, and burritos that, even with add-on guacamole, are well-priced. A pair of savory conchitas pibil (slow-roasted pork) tacos is a great idea, especially with house salsa." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell
"El Taco Loco, a new Mexican restaurant on Carrollton Avenue near Oak Street, swung open its doors with a menu of affordable dishes at the end of December. The restaurant is set up assembly line style, with choose-your-own entree, meat, and toppings. Entrees cover the necessities for build-your-own-dish Mexican restaurants: Burritos, quesadillas, tacos, taco salads, and nachos. Meat choices include lengua, tinga, chorizo, chicken, ground meat, veggie, barbacoa Mexicana, carnitas, and al pastor. Fish or shrimp is also available for tacos. Early diner reviews compare the 'no hassle pure taco experience' at El Taco Loco to Felipe’s, but note the food is 'deeper and rich, full flavored and well-spiced.' El Taco Loco is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays. It’s open until 11 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The restaurant moved into what was the longtime spot of Mona’s." - Stephanie Carter
