A vibrant eatery offering flavorful regional Mexican dishes and drinks in a laid-back outdoor setting, perfect for casual get-togethers.
"There’s usually a line snaking around the corner of this Edgewood neighborhood taqueria. Plan for a 30-minute wait to avoid hangry frustration, but also know that you can grab a margarita or Bloody Mary at the bar to keep you company in line. El Tesoro only has outdoor seating, so it’s best to swing by when the weather isn’t giving us a reason to use the banned term "Hotlanta." But on balmy days, there’s nothing better than lying back in a colorful patio chair with a juicy barbacoa de res taco and enjoying the laid back vibes." - nina reeder, juli horsford, jacinta howard
"There's no indoor seating at this popular Edgewood taqueria. On balmy days build in some wait time to avoid hangry frustration since the line to order snakes around the corner. Then wind your way through the obstacle course of mismatched patio furniture to claim a table. The "patio" has the aesthetic we most associate with a neighborhood cookout. Nothing really goes together, kids often run through the adjacent grassy pasture, and it feels like you could hangout all day. And you'll likely want to stay awhile because the tacos are elite (they make an appearance on our best tacos guide), the margaritas flow freely, and the chips and queso are hard to put down." - nina reeder, demarco williams, juli horsford, jacinta howard
"This taco spot in Edgewood already made an appearance on our best tacos guide. Everything is great here. And every Thursday, you can grab birria tacos with blue corn tortillas that hold up remarkably well when stuffed with juicy stewed beef. Add in a side of birria ramen and a tequila-heavy margarita, then happily sink into a comfy lounge chair on El Tesoro’s uber-chill patio." - juli horsford
"There’s usually a line snaking around the corner at El Tesoro, so build in some wait time to avoid hangry frustration. Luckily, you can grab a margarita or Bloody Mary at the bar to pass the time while you stand in line at this popular Edgewood taqueria. You can’t go wrong with the tasty Migas taco, which is packed with scrambled eggs, esquite corn, corn chips, cheese, and pico de gallo. After you order at the counter, sit at a picnic table and bask in the relaxed atmosphere of this neighborhood hangout. Food Rundown photo credit: Amy Sinclair Queso Dip If it’s a bad day, the queso is thick and the globs taste like glue. On a good day, dump those chiles into the bowl of liquid gold and prepare to scrape every last bit of cheese out. And because of those good days, we’ll take our chances every time. Migas Tacos It’s absolutely packed with fluffy scrambled eggs, esquite corn, corn chips, cheese, and pico de gallo. It’s one of the best breakfast tacos in the city. Ranchero This is our favorite breakfast taco, so if you’re here for brunch, order it. The scrambled egg, onion, and cilantro get an alleyoop from the smoky flavors of chopped up salchichon hot dog. Barbacoa De Res The braised and shredded beef is the star of the show. Get it on a corn tortilla for the best flavor pairing." - Juli Horsford
"Whenever you’re feeling most alone, a walk on the Beltline will guarantee some type of human interaction, even if it’s a rogue teen nearly running you over with a scooter. When you tire of the pavement, head to El Tesoro’s outpost on the West End trail inside of Wild Heaven. The cavernous seating area in the brewery is usually full of beer lovers and the taco-obsessed (two of our favorite kinds of people). But the best companions here are the delicious barbacoa taco and a draft brew. Plop yourself down on a communal table, and even if you don’t talk to anyone, the hustle and bustle of the massive space feels like you’re part of the action.
