How Mama Ninfa Brought Fajitas to Houston — And the World | Eater Houston

"Opened in 1998 by a member of the founding family, this restaurant group has carried forward the family’s Tex‑Mex legacy across more than a dozen Texas locations. It introduced the city to the anafre, a tabletop Mexican grill, and serves parrillada prepared on that grill, emphasizing communal, grill-centered dining that echoes the wood-fired traditions and flavors that made the family’s original restaurant influential." - Brittany Britto Garley

The 12 Best Restaurants At George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

"Gate A7 Mostly a large bar counter—great for anyone traveling solo—the local restaurant group-owned El Tiempo Cantina serves the usual Tex-Mex classics like frozen margs, fajitas, and salsa-smothered breakfast plates. Stay for a while or, like everyone else, take something to go and eat it awkwardly in your lap at your flight’s gate." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

I was in line at Starbucks with a dozen in front of me & a dozen standing waiting. I spotted El Tiempo. I left the line & made a beeline to the bar. I was immediately given a menu & served coffee. I ordered Huevos Rancheros which was served piping hot within two minutes. It was fantastic. (Especially for airport food). I know there are a lot of poor ratings here, but it was not my experience.

Food: Good. Drinks: Amazing Bartender Reamer is a fantastic bartender. He brings bartending from ordinary to extraordinary! You get a meal and a show!! A lady next to me ordered a margarita so she could watch the performance as he prepares the drinks. Management’s better know they have an amazing, creative, bring-it-to-the next level employee. I didn’t make it to three flights. Was bummed out. Reaner brought a dose of sunshine and made it all better! And reward him!!! Anytime I’m in IAH, I’ll make my water stop at El Tiempo Cantina.

Ok...all these people saying "It's not like the original" need to chill. Of course it's not like the original. It's not the dang airport. Having said that, there's no reason for the chicken in my burrito bowl to be dry. The drinks are excellent and rhe service was great.

I stopped by today for some Chicken Fajita Nachos while waiting for my flight, and unfortunately, the food was disappointing—the chicken tasted like it came from a can, and the overall dish lacked flavor. However, the experience was redeemed by the excellent service from my server/bartender, Reamer. He was incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional. Thanks to him, I still walked away with a positive impression despite the food.

Have been to El Tiempo numerous times within Houston and I don’t know what happened here. The food was actually a disgrace. I was definitely not expecting what showed up in front of me. If the server said a dozen words to us, that was all. Love El Tiempo but damn, this location does not represent the restaurant very well.

Stay away! The food looked so bad and the portion size was kid size, for an adult size burrito bowl, that I could not even complete my order and actually pay for it! You lost my business & I'm so disappointed, but Freshëns fresh food Rice Bowls were amazing!

Google
Very underwhelming experience. For a well-known Tex-Mex spot, the airport El Tiempo really drops the ball. The food options are extremely limited — no real variety, especially if you're looking for something filling or fast. Shockingly, even the beans only come with pork, which is a big issue for anyone with dietary restrictions or preferences. I expected more from such a reputable name. If you’re in the airport and hungry, I’d recommend looking elsewhere or eating before your flight. Definitely not worth the stop.
