This place is hit or miss. They used to be very consistent with the quality but I'm not sure what happened. When it's good, it's gooooood but when it's not so great, it makes you rethink going back.

Google
Probably one of the most authentic tacos in Baton Rouge area. Clearly underrated.

Google
OH. MY. GOODNESS! Currently continuing the hunt for the greatest, most authentic taco in Baton Rouge, and we might just have a winner. However, given the deliciousness of this quest, we don't plan on stopping lol. El Tio is a great little spot, not necessarily in the greatest of locations. But let's be honest, the BEST food never is. I'm already looking forward to the next time I get to visit. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Just moved to area. Well this part of baton rouge and was super excited to try this place. Prob best tacos I've had in BR after 11years. Def going back this weekend.

Google
The tacos at this restaurant were absolutely amazing. The flavors were rich and delicious, and the size portions were generous. I highly recommend trying them out if you ever find yourself in Baton Rouge. Trust me, you won't regret it! Overall, I would rate these tacos a perfect 10 out of 10.

Google
Authentic Mexican food with glass bottled Coke, Fresca, etc. with good servings and prices. Family friendly. No cervesas or alcohol served. Practice your Espanol.

Google
El Tio is hands down one of the best Mexican spots I’ve been in Baton Rouge! The atmosphere is so good and welcoming, it immediately makes you feel comfortable. Their guacamole is fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the carne asada tacos were unbelievably juicy and flavorful—definitely a must-try. The enchiladas had this incredible tangy tomatillo sauce that tied everything together beautifully. To top it off, their margaritas are next-level, super refreshing and perfectly balanced. The service was also spot on—friendly, fast, and really helpful with recommendations. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food that hits all the right notes, El Tio is the place to go!

Google
I haven’t been back here in years until last week. They really amped up the space. Food is just as delicious. The lengths, asada, and pastor tacos were so good. The burrito is huge and also delicious. Highly recommend!

Yelp
THEE best Mexican restaurant and no other can compare. The complementary salsa is absolutely divine and I'd say the best restaurant salsa I've ever had. It is a spicy fresh salsa which I LOVE. By looking at the restaurant's interior and environment you just know the food will be fresh, authentic, and hitting. I will say, I wouldn't really recommend getting the chicken flauta because I found it dry but it was still good! The nachos is THEE STAR of the show. Huge portion for only $8.99 and it is made with fresh fried chips and layers of cheese, meat, and toppings on it. So delicious! I had my friend's quesadilla and it was great. Taco was packed with SO much flavor. The server was kind and sweet. I recommend this place to everyone! Loaded nachos and banging food, we love!

John G.

Yelp
My favorite Mexican spot in BR. Being from Texas it's hard to find authentic Mexican food in Louisiana, but El Tio passes the test. Steak burrito and birria tacos are my favorite. The chips and salsa are great and their queso is great as well - just make sure you get the queso dip and not the skillet queso. Fresh guac as well. Tacos are amazing too. 10/10

Yelp
Best Mexican food I have had in Baton Rouge! Quick and authentic! Desperately wished they closed a little later.

Yelp
FOOD, AMBIANCE, SERVICE ALL TOP NOTCH! I came in through a friend's recommendation and came out life changed! I've never tasted such authentic, flavorful Mexican food ever before. Their Horchata was creamy, milky and just the perfect amount of cinnamon goodness. The Birria sauce bursted with creamy fatty goodness on the first bite and only got better after each. The Steak Enchilladas came packed with beans, rice, and veggies. At first i thought these were just going to be fillers on the plate but with the first bite of that rice and beans my mind was truly blown, the rice was fluffy and soft while the beans had such a nutty flavor. Then came the Enchilladas. THE ENCHILLADAS COATED IN THEIR GREEN SALSA TRULY BREATHTAKING. Juicy meat mixed with that spicy tangy salsa that cut through all its fat. THE BEST ENCHILADAS THAT HAS EVER ENTERED MY BODY. And last but on least the tacos and gorditas. Packed again with meat, cilantro, and onions again out of this world. The quality, experience and price of this place is so worth it!! I believe everyone needs to come here to truly experience the masterpiece of cuisine.

Yelp
Great tacos and Gordita's. I was referred by a friend to check this place out and it was a good authentic type of Mexican.
google avatar

Chasity J.

Yelp
I dream about their tacos almost every night, they're just that good and authentic!! Also, very sweet people!

Colin H.

Yelp
Does not live up to the hype for me, for anyone who's reading these reviews because their friends are trying to take them to a "good Mexican spot" DO NOT FALL FOR THE TRAP. It is not Mexican food, it is Honduran.

Yelp
THE best!!!!! Tacos in BR!!!! Absolutely love it!!! I think it has good prices for the quality! They give radish and sauce that is delish! I have recommended it to everyone I know. The service is fast, I usually order to go but I have my order in less then 10 minutes.

Pam W.

Yelp
Excellent though there's no tamales. They stopped making them. Very clean. Salsa is great and has a slight sting. Chicken quesadilla was delish, as were the steak tacos.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite place to get authentic tacos!! I eat here almost every week for lunch bc it's close to campus!!
google avatar

Mandisa N.

Yelp
I always drive past this place but finally had the time to go in a try their food. I had the gorditas. Although it typically comes with three, I asked for two and that was more than enough (almost struggled to finish, haha). They were pretty good. Wish I had more sauce to diversify the flavor though. My friend (who's Hispanic) had the tacos and she says they're some of the best tacos she's had in BR - so if you're on that search, definitely check this place out. I'm excited to return in the future and try out more of their menu and their tacos!

Yelp
After coming here the second time, I got a way better experience. The service improved, and the food that I got was all delicious. I may not have gotten the right thing the last time that I was here. From the last time that I was here, the waitress and also cashier was the same person. This did not change. However, there was a second person that came by to help us refill on water and help bring food to the table. My friends and I sat down and got our food relatively quickly after ordering it. The waitress gave us chips and dip and kept supplying it if we requested it. She was a really great waitress. She also filled up our waters when we were running low. She was really helpful and provided us with exceptional service. The food that I got was amazing. I posted a few photos, but the beef burrito and the beef taco were both really tasty. The beef burrito was quite big and had a lot of stuffing in it. It was hard for me to finish it after having the taco. It was well worth the price for me (7.99 for a burrito) and it tasted great as well! The taco was really great, too. The beef was juicy and seasoned well. The tacos were stuffed beyond what I could eat. I had to pickup the parts that fell and ate it afterwards. This place has improved so much since I came here the first time. Therefore for the taste of the food and the service that I received that day, I am bringing my review of this place up from a 3 to a 5 star. You definitely just have to get the right items to eat such as the taco, the gorditas, the tostadas, and the baleadas. I am definitely recommending this place for people to try.
google avatar

Victoria D.

Yelp
Definite hole-in-the-wall type of place. I rarely dine in and usually do take out maybe once a month. The tacos are $2-3 each and oh so flavorful. They give you a grilled onion and jalapeno on the side along with radish and the green sauce. I am also a big fan of the chorizo gordita. I think this is the best tacos in BR, for sure. The service is quick and the food is cheap. Go support them!
google avatar

May G.

Yelp
The waiter and staff all wore face masks, and there was a hand sanitizer pump by the front door. I got the chicken quesadilla and it was delicious! The quesadilla was cut into 4 sections. It also came with a plate of rice, beans and salad. We got some complimentary salsa chips before the main meal came in too. The service was good too.

Yelp
the best mexican food in the state of louisiana, as someone not of the state, it has restored my faith in god and Louisianan taste

Priscilla D.

Yelp
El Tío Taqueria had delicious and authentic food. Quick service too!! I will definitely be back again!

Paulette P.

Yelp
There was a shrimp tail in the taco, and they did nothing about it. Absolutely gross looked like it came from someone else's plate

Yelp
I saw this spot on Geaux Rouge and was officially green with envy that I hadn't discovered it first as it's right down the street. Needless to say, that weekend after some overconsumption at a friend's graduation celebration, I decided it was as good of a time as any to try it out. When you walk into this non descript shopping center spot, you are transported into a classic family Mexican restaurant. No frills, bright colors, only a couple of tables and a counter but the smells coming out of the small kitchen were intoxicating. First off, any time lengua is on the menu, I am IN, so I ordered the lengua Gordita, the asada and pastor tacos, and the steak quesadilla. Like most gringas, to my unfortunate demise, I also ordered chips and salsa to fill up on before I even bite into my taco. Luckily this time, it was my after taco snack. As a beautiful accompaniment, I also had a tall glass of horchata which I'm convinced is a secret hangover cure. Anyway, the food. The tacos were chocked full of juicy authentically prepared asada and pastor. They were dressed as you often see, with onion and cilantro and I wouldn't have it any other way. With the addition of some spicy creamy verde on top, easily one of the best authentic style tacos I've had. The Gordita was delicious and I really enjoyed the textures of the shell and the delicate meat but unfortunately, the lengua was a little strong for my taste. The quesadilla was enormous and filled with asada and creamy cheese and the rice and beans in their lard-filled glory were welcomed with open arms into my sad sad wine soaked body. I will 100% be back to try maybe some chilequiles or a baleada :)
google avatar

Yelp
These are definitely authentic street tacos! I love that they add the radish and jalapeño peppers on the side. I ordered over the phone and it was a quick process! They were out of lengua which I was sad about, but I ordered the el pastor and the carne asada. The carne asada was so good! El pastor was good as well bc of the fattiness and tenderness. I looove the corn tortillas as well. I also really appreciated that they packed on the cilantro and fresh onions. So yummy. We paid about $23 for 8 tacos total. Not too bad and it was ready in 10 minutes. The green sauce had the perfect spice to it, but I was still sniffling a little. I love to go here for a quick bite or taco craving!!!

Yelp
One of the most authentic Mexican restaurant I've been. I wish it gets more recognition because the food is delicious. I went here countless times when I was living in Baton Rouge, and it never cease to amazed. If you want quality good priced food, this is it. One of favorites in Baton Rouge!!
google avatar

Yelp
Oh El Tio, such an amazing Mexican/Honduran restaurant hidden away in an unassuming corner. I would've never known what a gem this place was if I had never stepped inside. Their food is stick to your ribs deliciousness! My personal favorite is their baleadas and tacos. The sides you get sometimes may be inconsistent. Sometimes you get peppers, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get grilled onions, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get radish, sometimes you don't. But you'll ALWAYS leave satisfied with their delicious food!
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
I love El Tio! There service is always quick and the food is always delicious! So far I've gotten the burrito (various meats), torta (chorizo and asada), chicken quesadilla, and tacos (beef tongue, pastor, and asada). The burritos are always great and my go to and they're hugeeee! The asada torta was delicious, but the chorizo torta was too salty for my taste. The chicken quesadillas were hugeeee and it came with retried beans and a salad. The refried beans were super good. The tacos were not for me. They weren't bad, they were just too simplistic for me. I do not have a refined palate lol. However my bf liked them a lot. Overall, El Tio is my go to place for amazing Mexican food for a great price in Baton Rouge!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Been craving tacos and this joint definitely hits the spot! El Tío Taqueria is located on a little strip that I probably would have never thought to stop at, but I'm glad I did! Authentic, reasonably priced deliciousness served by friendly staff. This will be my new go-to. They were only serving to go but you could eat outside, which is where I enjoyed 2 steak and 2 chicken tacos. Extremely satisfied!! And don't get me started on the green sauce- perfect kick! Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Kimia A.

Yelp
Food is very delicious here and the customer service is excellent everything that I have had was authentic and very flavorful
google avatar

Raven J.

Yelp
Cheap, filling, delicious. Its loud as hell and most everybody is speaking Spanish. I feel like theres probably a secret spanish menu that I'm missing out on. We came during during Saturday lunch rush (~12:30) so we did have to wait around 20 minutes, but it was worth the wait. I ordered the parrilladas mix and it was so much food that I wont need to eat until the year 2034.
google avatar

Renae P.

Yelp
My third time eating here but first time dining in. The definition of a hole-in-the-wall which means it'll be some of the most authentic tacos you'll find in the area. The only thing I've eaten besides the complimentary chips & salsa (always a plus) is the shrimp tacos. My friends, however, had the carnitas and chicken. All good reviews. Every taco order comes with limes, sliced radishes, and grilled jalapeños. Fair warning: I've heard other things off the menu simply don't compare, but I'll be back to make my own opinion!
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
If you're looking for some truly authentic, affordable Mexican food then this is the perfect place. Very casual setting, with very helpful and attentive servers. You get chips and salsa when you are seating which was extremely fresh, and the entrees were delicious! I was actually very impressed with how much I liked the food and service, and I look forward to going again and trying more on the menu!
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
GREAT PLACE!!!! I can't believe I only just recently discovered this hidden gem. I'll be a regular here. I highly recommend the carne asada burrito.. Loaded and delicious for only $7.99. It was bigger than my hand lol. I don't recommend the tacos because they're kind of basic for 2.50. Definitely order the burrito or any of the other delicious menu items this place has to offer. Also THEY HAVE HORCHATA !!! Don't miss out any longer and come here for local authentic food!
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
Precious little place with authentic Mexican food and good service. May take a bit but they do a good job!
google avatar

Chad L.

Yelp
Super tasty, quick and great value. We had the carne asada quesadilla and a chorizo burrito. We're going to have to keep coming back to try more dishes to see what else they knock out of the park!
google avatar

Lacie G.

Yelp
Delicious! Authentic Mexican food. So glad to have found this place! We just moved to the area and haven't had good luck find a good taqueria until now. We will be back. Carne Asada tacos were excellent, and all there salsas are bad ass! **Update** Guacamole is the shit. And gorditas are delicious as well
google avatar

Yelp
* great food okay service * if you're picky about having good service at the places where you go, el tio may not be for you. if you just care about food food though, definitely try this place out! el tio has such good food! ive already been here a couple of times now and i've had their tacos and their quesadillas. both were so delicious and it's now my favorite place to get both of those meals! the service isn't always great though. once when i called to place a to-go order, no one picked up the phone so i had to call twice... another time, they messed up my order and i was missing 2 tacos! i wasn't charged for them so i didn't make a big deal out of it. i think they just didn't hear me when i ordered those tacos. but honestly, for me, the food is so good that i keep going back. i just make sure that my order is right every time! honestly, if i could find better tacos or quesadillas at a different place, i would go there but i haven't found it yet. so for now, el tio is it for me!

Julio P.

Yelp
Great Mexican food! The breakfast is awesome and menudo is good. The kid's portions are very generous
google avatar

Christina D.

Yelp
Without a doubt, these are the best tacos in BR. I've tried Mr. Taco, La Tienda, La Salvadorena, etc... all of them have good tacos, but El Tio has THE best authentic street tacos of BR. When you walk in, seat yourself and a sweet woman will bring over chips and salsa. The salsa is fuego! Then do yourself a favor and order at least 3 different types of tacos. These tacos are reminiscent of the flavors I had when I was in Mexico! I don't think I can go anywhere else in BR for tacos and the service is great! The next time I went, I brought my friends and the sweet woman remembered me from last time and said "OH great you brought your other friends this time!!"
google avatar

David V.

Yelp
One of the Best Authentic Mexican Restaurant in Baton Rouge. A Must get is their Carne Asada Torta(not on the menu). Amazing Tacos and Horchata.
google avatar

Teri D.

Yelp
Wow!! Off to a GREAT start with the BEST salsa I've ever had in the USA. Nice warm fresh chips to dip into it as well!! Super good and they sell it by the container as well. Obviously we're getting one. The rest of the meal was also delicious. The rice was a little bland but the beans were way better than the soupy puddle of goo that is the norm at most places. Thick and tasty frijoles aren't commonly found north of the border. Service was swift and pleasant. It was also astonishingly cheap for the amount and quality of the food. No alcohol though. We will definitely go back. It's a hole in the wall place so seating is limited but it's clean and cheery in a Latin America way. We enjoyed it.
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
We came in here just as they were getting ready to close and the 2 young men were a riot. They helped with ordering and still had fun with everything. The food smells amazing. Doing the Asada and Shrimp Tacos.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Delicious tacos . Pastor tacos flavorful and not drenched with grease. Real light on fresh corn tortillas. Mixed grill plate served sizzling full of chicken, beef and didn't skimp in shrimp. Notice there isn't a pound of onions to make look bigger like other places. Service perfect even with language barrier. Very authentic restaurant one of the few places in Baton Rouge with a true taqueria. Won't forget this place as a regular haunt .
google avatar

Joy O.

Yelp
I love this place, best tacos and tortas.!!! We found this place by trying out different Mexicans restaurants and we were playing $15 for 3 tacos at El Paso down siegen. Well never again are we paying that. These tacos are the best, full or fajita, onion, cilantro and at a great price. And their staff mis very nice, informative and fast. I would defiantly know this is our place now.

Paris L.

Yelp
Every time we go it gets better and better. Tacos are spilling with meat and great seasoning only wish they would give rice and beans with tacos
google avatar

Marie C.

Yelp
This place looks like a hole in the wall that you would not want to eat at. But when I tell you the service and food are both great , please believe it. The tacos were my favorite and the chips and salsa are fresh. My daughter and I ordered 3 steak tacos and 2 shrimp tacos and were stuffed and satisfied. We will be back and highly recommend
google avatar

Kay C.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE. I cannot stress this enough, you must try their food. My coworkers and I order lunch from here on the regular and I always crave their tacos. It tastes so authentic and much different from other places with Mexican food. The flavors of the different meats just explode in your mouth and are so juicy and tender. I love the fresh cilantro and onions they add on top with the sides of whole grilled green onion pieces and jalapenos (they sometimes forget the grilled veggie sides and I'm always sad when they do because it's so delicious with the tacos). I also love the fresh radishes they give you on the side, it's a nice crunchy texture change. Oh and if you love spicy foods they have this spicy green sauce they put in a little container that comes with the food and it is sooooo good. Beware though, sometimes it can be very spicy so I would suggest trying a little first before you drown your food with it.
google avatar

Meggie L.

Yelp
El Tio has the best tacos in Baton Rouge. The asada tacos are delicious, along with the gorditas. I like to enjoy my tacos with a lot of spice and el tio was able to provide that for me. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic tacos.
google avatar

Celine P.

Yelp
This is my favorite mexican restaurant to eat at in Baton Rouge! The food is authentic, the staff is friendly, and they give a lot of food! I go at least four times a month! My favorite place in Baton Rouge. Update: I try so many places around BR for authentic mexican food, but nothing i've tasted so far has beaten El Tio!
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
This should be your go-to taco spot. This is legit Mexican food. It is not Tex-mex. It is authentic and delicious. The chips are served warm, the salsa is hot and the tacos are amaazing. These are true street taco style! The burritos are huge too! We also tried the flautas and they were delicious. Everything was warm, tasty and we will be back.
google avatar

Craig H.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch today and grabbed 3 tacos (2 shrimp and 1 chicken) food came out fast and was hot ! Shrimp tacos was the best I had in BR hands down! If you on LSU side or around Burbank areas I'll definitely recommend y'all to check it out! Plus the manager was super friendly and answered every question I had about the menu!! BEST TACOS
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
Hands down best authentic Mexican food in BR! Carne Asada tacos were UNREAL! Will definitely return ASAP!
google avatar

Paige P.

Yelp
I live pretty close by and decided to check this place out considering I drive by it everyday lol. Unfortunately the day we tried it out, they were out of almost half the menu. I don't eat beef or pork and that's pretty much all they could offer in the form of tacos and...that's pretty much it lol. My bf tried the tacos but I opted for salsa, rice, guac, and chips. Everything I had was delicious, the salsa is super spicy just the way I like it. The rice was enough for me to go back and get more. The 4 stars is because the guy helping us was super patient while explaining the menu even though I couldn't order it but for future reference. He was super helpful ! And I really enjoyed my sides lol but my bf didn't really enjoy his beef tacos.

Brittany B.

Yelp
Always packed, (pre Covid) you still get the same awesome food for take out. This is my favorite little hole in the wall to get authentic food. I always satisfy my taco cravings here when I don't feel like cooking them myself!
