El Yucateco

The pan dulce from Yucatán was delicious. Never had it before… We’ll I did but it was from the previous bakery and that’s a different story. The ones I tried was the empanada with crisp flaky texture and concha topping filling. Also the cookie with light chocolate filling and the other crispy bread with cinnamon. I also tried the French like baguette which tastes like cornbread, French baguette and dinner roll all into one. Highly recommended for folks in the neighborhood. It’s very affordable and owner and staff are very nice.

For those who know what Mexican sweet bread tastes like, this place is good! There are very few places like this one.

I was tasting yucateco bread for the first time. Cuellitos (crispy circles) that just go perfect with a cup of coffee. Also, Hojaldra with ham cheese and jalapeño. It’s a great fusion of salty and sweet with the right subtle hint of spicy. I will definitely return and try the other breads they sell.

Absolutely delicious! I tried the pan dulce concha, sweet potato pastry, and the hojaldra with ham and cheese, all of which were excellent. The staff are really lovely too!

Traditional Mexican panadería, made me feel a lot closer to home. Conchas and mantecadas are my favourite, but they have a wide variety of seasonal and classical Mexican pan dulce. I recommend making some cafe de olla at home to enjoy their delicious conchas.

I went for a decaf coffee, and the guy told me wait a minute. Then he said we don't have, I said ok give me a regular, then he said again wait, and come back saying that there is no more sorry 😒 He just didn't want to sell or make the coffee.

Cute bakery I passed by randomly! The pastries were cheap - I got a pingüino-like one for ~$3. It was tasty! The workers were really sweet too. One of them walked me through all the different options. There's plenty of seating inside, seems like a nice place to hang out over coffee.

I got caught in the rain when I was strolling on Mission. When I turned the corner on 16th Street, I realized there was a panaderia that could provide me with a brief respite from the downpour. My all-too-common experience with panaderias was that the pan dulce looked better than it actually tasted. I kept looking at the Chocolate Cake with the curly-Q icing on top. I was having a baby boomer flashback to those Hostess cupcakes my mom would put in my Superman lunch box. They were tastier than I expected, moister and sweeter than previous ones I've bought on 24th Street. So I found myself on 16th a couple of weeks later. The Nino Envuelto was a slice of a cake roll slathered with strawberry jam and sprinkled with coconut shavings. The Panque Marmoleado was a homestyle marbled pound cake. I'll be back. This bakery has been my go to for eons for my yearly purchase of Pan de Muerto for Dia de los Muertos. El Yucateco never fails to deliver the soft, not so sweet, yet fragrant goodies. My coworkers swear the Pan de Muerto tastes homemade, rivaling their family recipe! By the way, you can't go wrong with any of the Pan Dulces :^)

I go to Merida Yucatan about 6 times and a year and I have always missed their cafes. This bakery makes identical pasties! Their Hojaldra's are the best around. Every bite is a burst of memory. It looks like your normal bakery but the pastries shine enough. There is no special ambiance. Walking in you get a breath full of sweet air. The employees are kind and speedy.

We stopped in after lunch next door at Cocina Mayah (which was delicious btw, go check them out too...) and took a few pastries home for our weekend treat. We picked up two conchas, a sweet cornbread muffin, a ring shaped pastry and a couple of wedding cookies. For me, the wedding cookies were the absolute star of the show. They were light and flakey and sweet without being overpowering ... and they just melted right in your mouth. Outstanding. The conchas were good also, especially dipped in milk or coffee, and they seemed to have a touch of cinnamon in the dough perhaps...which set them apart from others that I've had. The cornbread muffin was very nice if a bit sweet for me, and the ring pastry was not something I'd seen before. I almost don't know what to compare it to. It's a very flakey dough and not very sweet at all. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it but it really grew on me and it would be very good with a cup of hot tea. Those cookies though. Awesome. We'll be back for sure.

Awesome bakery. They take nearly all forms of payment rather than just cash, which is convenient. The baked goods were yummy, and the service was great! The place itself was very clean. Will be back in the future.

The bakery is so yummy.. my current obsession is their Mexican wedding cookies.. come early...

Wow~ how did I not know about this place whereas I'd been to school near this area for 4 years?! How shameful of us! I was on my usual directionless self when my friend guided me back to where we were but in an opposite street. It was cold, windy, typical San Fran summer weather. We both thought from the other side of the street, we ought to get something in these hanger tummies or else. We crossed the street, went into this not-so-out-there bakery. Too simple to be honest. A new set of cookies came out, I spotted the creamy custard filled sugar sweet and had to have them. Oh my Gosh! It tasted like heaven. Every drop!!! The sweet potatoes pastry was also delicious. My friend got the berry pastry, also another sweet potatoes and some cookies. I'm not much of a cookies person but they were good. Definitely a come back place for us. Y'all gotta try for yourself. Hella dope!

Even though I no longer live in the area. I still get my pan dulce here every opportunity I get when I'm in SF. They have a variety of bread & pastries. Staff is friendly & the pan dulce from this place is some of the best I've had.

Lovely bakery with a wide variety of Mexican pastries and classic specialty coffees (lattes etc.). I tried a handful of different pastries and they were all delicious! My favorite was like a flatbread, with ham and jalapeños which gave a nice kick, and lightly dusted with some sugar which rounded out the savory pastry. They all look beautiful too - would be a crowd pleaser to get a box to share. Will be back!

I hate writing this review because I feel like a monster. I want to support this business. But part of my personal issue is, I just don't like mexican pastries. I bought some pastries today, and the last time I had it was 5 years ago and remembering it wasn't very good. I bought 2 things that were very different in shape, one looked like a mini baguette(I think it was "broca"), and the other one was a giant round shape(I think that was the pan de muerto). Both were exactly the same, dry crumbly bread dusted with sugar on the outside. That was unfortunately also my impression 5 years ago at a different location. I'm a fan of sweets that isn't too sweet. But that isn't the issue here. There were several pastries with varying shapes and colors, but I couldn't help but wonder if they were all the same. I looked up a guide to mexican pastries after this, and it was hard for me reading the guide, thinking that all these pastries sound the same. ie "bread dusted with either sugar or cinnamon". I didn't see any custard filled ones. The texture were all similar, if not the same. When this place gets more reviews and people have specific recommendations, I will try those recommendations and reconsider my review, but as it stands, I don't want dry bread dusted with sugar with their 20 varieities being in shape and color. I don't want any dry thick cake with colorful sprinkles either, I get the sense visually that those cakes are dense and not very good either. I had what looked like the "broca" and "pan de muerto". They both tasted like the concha. And everything else looked like a variation of that, the difference being only color and shape. There were some strudel looking things on the inside that looked interesting. But I'll wait until somebody else tries it.

The door said opening at 6am, but I am here until 6:10, the gate still locked, no one is inside. Please fix the hour if it is not correct, save others a trip.
