Where to Eat in Sequim and Port Angeles, Washington | Eater Seattle

"For over 40 years, this spot has been Port Townsend institution, making exceptionally tasty from-scratch frozen confections. New owners took over in 2020, and the good news is they’ve dedicated themselves to maintaining high standards. Some flavors are aimed at a grownup palate (think ginger or cardamom), but this is still the kind of bright, friendly place that makes kids’ eyes light up from a block away." - Matthew Lombardi

I first encountered Elevated Ice Cream's quaint establishment 6 moons prior to my visit today. In that span of fleeting nycthemerons, I've sampled many of their offerings. Did I mention they give free samples yet? The folks at Elevated have been slinging their own on-site creations since 1977. According to their website, they started as a vendor in an old Victorian elevator across the street from their current location within the bustling village of Port Townsend. While they don't have 32 flavors, they do have the classics covered. Familiar tubs of chocolate, strawberry, mint chip, cookies and creme, sit next to a variable assortment of "elevated" things you would never expect to find in a cozy 50s malt shop atmosphere. Curiosities like cardamom, sea foam, and golden milk, to name a few. Never have I had such luscious and silky confections! But they don't stop at ice cream, shakes, and itallian ice! They operate an adjoining fudge-candy shop which is teeming with modern, homemade, and old timey treats from yesteryear. I can not suggest this place further for fear of wearing out my typing thumbs or phone screen. So if you have a hankering for something sinfully spectacular, you should swing by. They even have containers of their small batch ice cream ready to go. Well done elevated. I shall keep on masticating in support.

Google
I really enjoy stopping by this shop whenever we're in Port Townsend. The ice cream is tasty...portions can feel a little small for the price, but that honestly feels secondary when you take in the charm of the area and the atmosphere of the shop. What keeps us coming back isn't just the ice cream, though...it's the people. There's one employee in particular, Caleb, who consistently makes our visits stand out. He's friendly, attentive, and genuinely seems to care about making each interaction a good one. Even when the shop is busy, he goes above and beyond to make sure we leave with a smile. My family always looks for him when we stop in, because his presence makes the experience memorable every time. To be fair, we've had the occasional interaction with other staff who came across a little distracted or less engaged. It's never ruined the visit, but it does make Caleb's effort and warmth stand out that much more. Overall, we always leave happy, and this shop has become one of our regular stops thanks to the great atmosphere, tasty treats, and overall good service. (And the chance to stroll by the water afterwards doesn't hurt either.)

Google
This was, hands down, the worst ice cream I’ve ever tasted. It was already melted when I got it — completely unacceptable. Every single flavor was loaded with sickening artificial fragrance — like someone dumped perfume into the mix. It was overly sweet to the point of being nauseating, and there was even a weird bitter aftertaste. The "pecan" didn’t taste like pecan at all, and the "hazelnut" had zero hazelnut flavor — just more fake, chemical flavoring. Nothing tasted natural. I felt sick after just a few bites. Honestly, I wouldn’t eat this again if it were free. Avoid at all costs.

Google
Wow! Amazing ice cream. I got the salted chocolate caramel swirl ice cream, my kid got mint chocolate chip and my husband got modjeska as a milk shake. All of them were so good. There are so many flavors, both traditional and unique. You can get a sample to find the one you want.

Jackie Morey

Google
They had the usual flavors such as Chocolate and Strawberry, and they also had new ones such as Peppermint Candy which was their Flavor of the Month for December 2024, Seafoam, Lemon Chiffon, Ginger, Swiss Chocolate Orange and a several others (see my videos as part of this Review) They also had their Sweets and Candy Store next door with all the candies you can imagine!! We already had our share of sweets after our ice cream that we didn’t buy any candy. I still took photos for you to see just how wide of a variety they do have — and they make most of the candies they sell!

Google
Best place to get your sweet fix when in town with a variety of yummy ice cream flavors and confectioneries. Multiple tables for enjoying your cold dessert indoors or outside in a mini park right beside. They have insulated bags for sale if you decide to take some ice cream home. Recommend a visit especially in the hot summer months!

Julie Nonyas

Google
It was weird, but fine. Being scooped on a scale, like. It was fine. Ice cream was good. The bathrooms were clean and available to purchasers.

Google
I seldom provide negative reviews, however our experience was horrible. After waiting in line for close to 30 minutes, my wife and I ordered two scoops each in Dixie cups. Our grandson and his wife did the same thing. All four of us were very disappointed in the quality/taste and likened it to a medium level brand available in major supermarkets. We also were shocked at the charges, both approaching 18 dollars! The per ounce cost was 3 1/2 times that of Ben & Jerry's or 5 times that of Tillamooks!

Yelp
Great flavors and other options. Tasted great. However, the ice cream & Italian ices portions were a bit small. The root beer float was delicious & worth it. Super view in the back.

Yelp
Not much to say other than the fact that their ice cream was excellent. Service and ambiance were okay but not super memorable or anything but their ice cream was on point. They also sell ice cream to go and they operate a candy store right next door.

Yelp
Haven't been to Elevated in years and was super excited for a return visit. It was great back then, but it's gotten EVEN BETTER since. Their ice creams are unique, creamy, and so delicious. The Amaretto Hazelnut was incredible - the hit both the flavors perfectly, and the combination worked so well together. They also have a chocolate selection, which is perfect to take home with you. Plenty of indoor seating. Best place to get your ice cream fix.

Yelp
Excellent homemade flavors of ice cream and assorted candies with a wonderful atmosphere and great service make up this little gem of Port Townsend. With flavors that tease the tastebuds and excellent service, I would definitely recommend this place. A great place to visit.

Yelp
Recommended by our ferry guy as we arrived too early for our ferry. All the way down the main street. That's probably why we never saw and tried it before. We usually go to Nifty Soda for our ice cream treat while we wait for our ferry. There was a line when we got there. Half of our group was more interested in getting candy from the candy shop. I saw one guy making the waffle cones right there, so that was an extra star for me. They had a lot of options, and their ice cream is homemade. Also, they had what I thought was a sobert option, but it was Italian ice cream. Today, it was espresso ice cream with one of their waffle cones for me. There is nothing special in regards to the ice cream itself for me personally to set it a part from the ones I had before, but it's nice to try something new in Port Townsend. Maybe next time, I will have to try one of their Italian ice cream.

Yelp
The Per usual we're on point doesn't matter what you get you're gonna love it even if it's something you've never heard of before go ahead and try it you're gonna love it Unless you hate it of course and that's okay too because there's plenty to choose from so they'll have something that you like for sure and then while you're walking around with your ice cream cone you can Google and gago with all of the old school candies that they have about I ended app with a $15 left in my pocket than I planned on because I found some old school candies I haven't seen it a long time so how some fun And maybe go away with a bag of goodies

Yelp
We walked past this place multiple times before we stopped here after dinner. It was also recommended by another local shop owner. She said to get their cotton candy flavor. That's not my cup of tea but I do love me some ice cream. I didn't see any out there flavors but they have plenty of the standards. I ended up with a small scoop of strawberry on a sugar cone. I think you can also get a regular cake cone and of course, the cup. They have a small patio in the back, where w went to enjoy our ice cream, since we had our pup with us. It overlooks the water so it was cool and breezy in the early evening. Solid ice cream and three small scoops set us back about 10 bucks so a great place for a sweet treat.

Yelp
Ice cream is excellent. I recommend getting a cone. They have lots of great flavors. I ordered a banana split, which I allow myself once a year each August. I do not recommend that item. The bowl was so small that the 3 scoops overflowed the bowl (truly way too small for anything but golf ball size scoops). The addition of sauces was tiny since anything more would have streamed off the sides (sauces were very good, though). The banana was nice, but no whipped cream. I started to ask about it since I assume she just forgot. I let it go. So, treat yourself to a scoop or two of this delicious ice cream on a cone or dish.

Yelp
A really great selection of fantastic ice cream. The cardamom ice cream is a must! Super friendly staff offering samples and helping with the very hard decision of what to get! They also offer some great non-dairy options as well. Ice cream is sold by weight, waffle cones made fresh and super cheap, and they also offer a variety of milkshakes, floats, cream sodas, sundaes, etc. After trying a number of flavors I was sold on the coffee oreo ice cream topped with a scoop of the cardamom.. dreamy. This is on the main strip, so a great place to stop in to grab ice cream as you explore town or enjoy the waterfront. Don't skip Elevated, cheers!

Yelp
This is a must-stop on walkabouts in Port Townsend. The candy and fudge section is large. The ice cream is delish! We have tried the chocolate, lemon, and vanilla with toffee pieces. We will be back!

Yelp
Surprisingly tasty ice cream! Didnt' expect it. I bought a pint and a cookie. Would go back here again.

Yelp
Used to be run out of the cool old elevator across the street, thus the name, they have a blurb about how now it's elevated because of the quality of the ice cream haha. Got a raspberry italian ice and its served in a little cup with a wood spoon. The ambiance inside is very old timey and full of local history and all sorts of seemingly disjointed brand themes. They have seats in the front, the back, and a patio out back. You can walk all the way through the ice cream shop from one street to the other side. This was a cute stop, but I didn't find the ice cream to be super elevated haha, it was very standard. The Italian ice was similar to a sorbet, you might experience more elevation with one of their dairy based options. Worth a visit to see this cool piece of retro/local history.

Yelp
We came on a weekend to walk around Port Townsend. My husband had heard great things about this little shop, so it had been on my list for quite some time. The ice cream was good! A fun selection of flavors. But the service was not. We were the only ones in the shop at the time. 4 of us total. Two teen girls were working and gave off the vibe that we were not wanted. Didn't greet us. Didn't ask if they could help us. Just stood behind the counter and stared at us. We got our order and left as quickly as we could. My maple ice cream was great! Everyone in our group liked that they got. The fruit flavors a sorbets were a hit! The prices were a little high, but not terrible. Next time we are in town we will give them another shot... hoping for a warmer welcome when we do.

Yelp
Super cute ice cream shop in the historical downtown of Port Townsend. On a recent trip, we decided to stop in for an after-dinner treat. We both got little sundaes and they were delish! The girl behind the counter was very pleasant & got our order out to us quickly. The ice cream was smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. I also loved that the nuts were under the whipped cream, it made the sundae super delicious. I would've taken pics, but we were too busy eating. Definitely will return the next time we're in town.
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Positively overwhelmed with all the candy and confectionery options available here, and that's without even addressing the attached ice cream parlor! All the favorites of today and yesteryear are here, even oddities like astronaut ice cream! If you're in need of a sugar rush or a sweet souvenir, elevate yourself, and look nowhere else in PT!

Yelp
Candy Shop: Been here a few times over the years. I don't think we've ever had a bad customer service experience. There's a fun selection of treats. The Fill Your Own Bag corner has a bucket for clean scoops and one for the used scoops. Each of our 3 kids got their own bag filled with their choices of jelly bean flavors from the dispenser and they liked that. Those bags lasted at least a couple of weeks. Ice Cream Shop: I think we've usually skipped this section of the business because they are always super busy. We were in town though for a birthday adventure and we wanted to treat our kids so we stopped in. It was packed and we had a bit of anxiety because we have two under 12 and aren't able to get vaccinated, but we waited in line, distancing as much as we could. When we got to the front, we had to wait a bit, but then we got checked on multiple times to make sure we were taken care of. The staff working that particular day were amazing and had fantastic customer service. We are a family of FIVE! I don't think I saw anyone in the back who would not be considered "young adults" and they handled the pressure with grace... and I've worked in customer service for over 15 years. I was beyond impressed. I would recommend the lavender flavors and most definitely a Cardamom espresso float!

Yelp
Great ice cream - pay by the ounce. Best for scoops. The sundaes feel like a bit of an afterthought. Don't miss the candy store next door - same company.

Yelp
Need an old timey local ice cream shoppe in your life? This is the place for you. We've stopped in during every visit to Port Townsend and love it every time. Their secret is their simplicity. Just a bunch of delicious ice cream flavors and kind, helpful, and patient employees. Oh, and delicious cones, too! This last time, they even made our dog a pup cup. Big hit!

Lisa B.

Yelp
This place welcomes vegans! The oat milk latte and sorbet and vegan ice creams made me so happy. And the server was really nice.
google avatar

Naol T.

Yelp
Pretty average ice cream but giving it 4 stars because it is a local small business and will please the masses. Got a small dish/cup of orange vanilla ice cream. Texture was more icy than smooth/creamy. Customer service was just fine, surprisingly lots of people on a late Thursday afternoon.
google avatar

Yelp
GO EAT ICE CREAM HERE!!! So delicious! We were impressed with the selection of flavors (including non dairy Italian ices) and the different flavors! Try the cardamom ice cream!

Yelp
So so yummy ! Loved supporting local! Nice inside ! And the service was great ! I like the unique flavors !

Yelp
It was freezing in Port Townsend and we needed hot coffee, so we walked clear down the street and finally noticed the sign out front of Elevated Ice Cream that said Espresso. I've stopped in this place before and there is almost always a line, even on a cold windy day people are still getting ice cream, but not us, we needed to warm up. They were really busy and it took them forever to make my Vanilla Latte. The flavor was pretty hard to beat, but the Latte wasn't hot at all, in fact it was without a doubt the coolest hot Latte I've ever been served, should have guessed from an ice cream shop, right? Still, it warmed me up for our walk back to the ferry, but I might look elsewhere next time for my Latte before choosing Elevated Ice Cream.

Yelp
Great Oreo and caramel ice cream. Great selection of flavors. Next to a sweet shop and just double trouble
google avatar

Jboogie L.

Yelp
The line was too long for ice cream so we went next door to get chocolates and candy instead.
google avatar

Louis B.

Yelp
These folks have a large selection of ice cream and a handful of sorbets. They also have a candy store attached that has lots of old-time and new candy, including a large selection of cotton candy flavors, including pickle! The best thing is the good variety of flavors made in-house My favorite is cardamom but coffee is right behind. You can also get a container of your favorite flavor to take home. Yum!
google avatar

Kimberly P.

Yelp
Went in for sundaes this eve after walking around town after what's been a sad and draining few days for us. The gal that made our sundaes forgot the hot fife on both of them. Glad i caught it before we left. Got back to the hotel room only to be even more disappointed to find out the sauce is made with dark chocolate. Not at all what we expected! Wish the menu board had mentioned that the hot sauce was dark chocolate flavor. We've had ice cream here before, but it was our first time ordering sundaes. From now on we will just stick with other ice cream parlor down the street.
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
Ice cream is great, Most of the staff was nice but the manager Jasmin was very rude, spoke to me disrespectfully, and made disgusted facial expressions. I honestly felt discriminated. Her service was poor; I live in this area and am afraid Jasmin may be treating tourists in the same manner. Otherwise, ice cream is delicious.
google avatar

Kaliko P.

Yelp
I had to visit Elevated after a wine tasting at a local cidery featured some of their sea salted, ooey gooey truffles. Their chocolates paired exquisitely with ciders and wines. I said to myself, "I need to get me those sea salted, ooey gooey truffles that taste like a super-expensive treat!" Rich, decadent, melt-in-your-mouth chocolates with a smooth mouth feel and the explosions of raspberry, combined with the hint of saltiness is just the kind of stuff that makes you run up your credit card bill! The confection store is connected to the Ice Cream store and both sides were pricey, but I do think the ice cream side was pricier than the candy side. I saw a book about a cat named "Spam" who battles zombies on a school bus and immediately wanted it, but the price scared me away (it was on the ice cream side, by the way). Parking is on the street. Feed the meter. Good luck finding parking during peak tourist season. You're welcome.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
How fantastic that they were open on New Years Day! Staff is incredibly friendly, they happily give you multiple flavors even in a small cone, and I haven't even begun to rave about the ice cream. So...the diversity of flavors is amazing. Floral herbs, spices, chocolates, fruits, candy, etc. in a most creamy base--fantastic!!! The Cardamom was fantastic as was the cappuccino chip (which I have ordered in just about every ice cream shop I've ever gotten.) The ginger was very good, but since the base wasn't really flavored, I'd suggest another. But bottom line is you can't go wrong with ANY flavor!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
The girl "helping" us never said a word basically. Her demeanor was boredom and disgust. If I hadn't promised my grands an ice cream cone, I would have left. When I thanked her, she shrugged and took a break. The other two boys were essentially the same type of attitude.

Renee C.

Yelp
WARNING- only order your ice cream in a to go container. I was so disappointed about something that happened today. I've been to this business many times and really enjoy it. They have wonderful ice cream and non dairy options. Today's experience was a 1 star but I have usually had 5 star experiences there so I will give it 3 stars. I was there with family. We ordered 2 smalls and one large. The pricing for the non-dairy in cream is listed on the case. I ordered 3 flavors- usually they cram a little bit of each so I can try them all but it's a little container. They usually come in a little cup shown just above the case. The price was $4.50 to $6 for 3 flavors. The smalls are in the $3 range. All of it is posted. The girl asked if we wanted it for here or to go. They never ask that usually, but we were staying so I said "here". My mom paid for it so I took my child over to check out the candy store while we waited (it's popular and so very crowded and you need to get out of the way so others can see the flavors). When I got back, mom paid and mine was this massive bowl. They weigh the ice cream apparently and they put it on the scale in this huge heavy bowl. She then said, wow that was $25! The receipt showed mine was $13!!!! I went back up to talk to the people and show them their pricing. Nope. Stuck with it. They did offer to compensate for a free scoop next time. This is NOT okay. Their explanation was that "here" containers are double the size of to go containers. No one explains or tells you that. Do NOT order "here" unless you wish to pay double or triple the cost. I am so disappointed and had to review about it because it seems super unethical to post a price and charge more than double and weigh a massively heavy glass container as part of a cost.

Yelp
This place gets SO MUCH foot traffic! In such a small tourist town, this ice cream shop is so busy you have to take a number to order a scoop of ice cream. Is their ice cream all that? It's local, made in house, and they're upfront about their ingredients. They do use guar gum and xantham gum if that matters to you. Their chocolate could be more chocolate-y, and visually every flavor is the same shade - pale. That's just a gripe on the visual. The flavor is there, everything just looks like it's the same bland shade . This ice cream shop (and the candy shop attached) is a staple here in town, and a definite must for new visitors and families.
google avatar

Claudette B.

Yelp
The ice cream here was so yummy. I had their lavender - it was well balanced as well as their coffee flavor; coffee flavor was a little light for me but I imagine many people don't drink their coffee black like I do! Their outdoor patio looks right out on the wharf.
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
A cute little bakery and froyo shop. Think Menchies inside a small town cafe. Was thrown off as well thought it would be a scoop shop based on the name, but satisfied the sweet tooth just the same. Fresh toppings were limited but since we visited during covid not holding that against them.
google avatar

julie p.

Yelp
Not only excellent ice cream but also Italian ice! Next door they sell candy and several types of fudge. Candy shop closes earlier than ice cream store.
google avatar

Hiroko M.

Yelp
I stopped by this place for a local homemade ice cream. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I sampled 6 flavors of their Italian ice cream and 5 flavors of regular ice cream, all were amazingly good!!! All Italian ice cream had very nice fruity flavor came from actual fruits, no artificial flavors. I had hard time choosing, so she put 5 flavors in a cup for me. All dairy ice creams had natural healthy taste, all delicious. I picked espresso and strawberry ice cream.

Malinee S.

Yelp
Swiss orange chocolate chip was very good. I normally didn't like orange in my ice cream. But this is an exception. The ice cream was creamy and had right sweetness and right amount orange aromatic.

Jason K.

Yelp
I got the almond poppyseed ice cream since I've never seen that flavor before. It tasted kind of like a poppyseed pastry in ice cream form. I highly recommend if you like poppyseed things
google avatar

Kristi H.

Yelp
Went on a brilliant, warm, April Saturday and the place was very busy. However, they worked the line quickly and we didn't wait too long. It would be nice if their ice cream varieties were higher up on the case or listed on the menu board as in line we couldn't read them all before ordering and later saw some flavors we wanted to try. I got an espresso float, a scoop of cardamom ice cream with two espresso shots poured over. Absolutely fantastic! My kids enjoyed their flavors too.

Arita T.

Yelp
Seafoam ice cream was sooooo good perfect for a hot day! Location is ideal right near thr picturesque waterfront in the postcard cute downtown historic district

Yelp
Triple citrus & local raspberry - Tart, not sweet. Definitely very delicious and would come back again without a doubt!

Yelp
We stopped in for ice cream after dinner one evening, and I was thrilled to find that one of my favorite ice cream flavors (orange chocolate chip) was available here! The only place I've ever found it before was down in California. Anyway, the ice cream was creamy and delicious, and the employees were very pleasant and friendly. Plus there was a pretty view from the back patio. I will definitely return!

Anna L.

Yelp
I came in on Father's day weekend and the girl that was serving the ice cream was very rude. She didn't acknowledge me or say hello and couldn't get a simple order correct. I told her 4 times what I wanted and she said " just tell me what you want so that I don't have to come back here". I guess she really doesn't like her job and can't keep attention to details. She had a horrible attitude and shouldn't be working in customer service.

Yelp
The go to place for ice cream in Port Townsend. Cause its right by the pier and you can enjoy it outside during summer days. Service is great. Big smile and you can try before deciding which flavour you would like. There is no size ie. small medium large at this location, on the other hand, they sell by weight. Do not like it. Makes it like a frozen yogurt place you go (Menchies). I would recommend this place on a nice summer day. Great for kids. Lots of flavours. We chose the amaretto hazelnut and vanilla mint - which is great.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic service, amazing ice cream, and an absolute necessity to stop by when walking through downtown. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Ryann C.

Yelp
Delicious flavors and reasonable prices. I had two scoops on a waffle cone: cardamom and orange chocolate chip. There, they charge for weight rather than a set price for a single/double/so on. It was about $3.50 for two scoops with an extra 60 cents for the waffle cone. I was happy with my treat and will visit again next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Eastlaker B.

Yelp
Long line on a hot sunny day is to be expected. The ice cream is charged by weight, which makes sense. The reason is for the low score is because I felt $5.50 for a root beer float should be filled up to the rim, not 2/3 full. When I questioned the staff who served me, she stated that was from a full bottle. I'm fairly certain she poured from one that was already opened, not completely full. There is no way 12oz liquid fits in a 16oz cup with a scoop of ice cream in it and is still only 2/3 full. At $5.50, I would suggest store pour for the customer and hand over the bottle with whatever doesn't fit in the cup due to foaming.
