So glad we drove further to go here for a breakfast burrito instead of a chain. I got the Egg Breakfast Burrito and added Chorizo. Not greasy at all but still flavorful! A little red sauce which each bite….amazing. My mom got the Chili Relleno Burro. She loved the chili relleno inside, the pepper was thick and the cheese was soft even after driving it home. A local overheard we were visiting and mentioned he’d been going since he was across the street in high school and now he’s taking his son! The cashier was super friendly, helpful and even gave us a serving of chips on the house since we mentioned we were first timers. Will definitely come back when in town!

Google
They make one of the best bean and cheese burritos in town. They are the only ones who do m chips with shredded cold cheese. But for some reason, it’s amazing and I can’t get enough.. I think it all starts with their salsa and how good it is. Their cone that are basically rolled up fried tacos are so great! They’re crispy tacos might be my favorite and honestly I just love their prices and their vibe. They’re very family friendly.

Google
This long-standing, local taco joint has been a staple of many students from the high school across the street no doubt, as many of them keep coming back years later and the food hasn't changed, prices, barely. They say they have the best bean and cheese burritos and I witnessed more than a few people order them in the short time I was there.

Google
Amazing! Been coming since I was a kid. A Chandler staple. Love that it's family run and everything is delicious - carne asada burro, bean and cheese burrito, mini chimis, shredded beef and potato tacos, chips and strips! 😋 affordable too & they give back to the community.

Google
I've been coming here since maybe 2012, and always forget how close i am since I moved over to Chandler 2 years ago. at least, close enough I should be eating it a bit more then I occasionally do. though a bit pricy, which may be what keeps me from going more often* the service story and food keep me coming back. met Elmer before his passing and you know he'd be proud of his family legacy. best local taco shop and Mexican food hole In the wall thats been here for generations. *mind you during the school year, theres a high school right across the street that has open campus. its slammed during and after school hours so ill usually go on a Sat.

Google
Elmer's Tacos has great food! The chips with shredded cheese were really good. We ordered a combo plate to have a sample of several different food choices and it was all fresh, hot, and delicious. They were busy while we were there but we were able to get a table right away and the food came out quickly. There is a reason they have been around since the 1970s!

Google
Great tacos at a great location. When I walked in, they were a little bit busy but that was okay. The line moved fast and I ended up getting my food really fast. I got a carne asada taco combo and it was great. The tacos were a good-sized, the meat was very flavorful and tender, and overall this was a great meal for a great price.

Google
Best tacos and burritos I've been able to find since moving to Arizona! Carne asada burrito was amazing and my wife loved her potato tacos. Service was excellent and food was out quick and fresh!

Yelp
I am only a visitor to Chandler, but every time I go I have to grab an Elmer's beef muchaca mini burro. It is the perfect mixture of tender meat, crisp lettuce, and cheese. Two mini burros are the perfect amount. Elmer's is usually filled with high schoolers at lunch time, but they are great at keeping everything moving even while busy. I've never sat inside, but their outdoor patio looks like it would be great to drink a beer on during a rare cool day in Chandler.

Yelp
First time here. They were closed for awhile due to a fire. First impressions when walking in the door, this place is popular and very busy. It is a casual dining room with table and bar/wall seating. I wish they served beer here. I love a cold one with my Mexican food. Our cashier was nice. She gave us an order of chips with grated cheese, for free, since it was our first visit. The food was okay. We ordered tacos, beans, and a burrito. We waited in line for 15 minutes. I didn't feel like the food was very picturesque worthy. If I were to go back I would stick to tacos, that is what they are known for.

Yelp
Yum! Made a quick stop randomly craving Mexican food... not a mistake. Really great. Must get the birria and steak tacos. Ninos menu is perfect and the fries are some of the best I personally enjoy. Guac has too much onions for my liking but still good flavor. Beans were the absolute best and love the extra bag of cheese they give you with chips. Not loving the hot sauce packs... when I opened it the sauce squirted out everywhere, but the flavor was dynamite and paired with the tacos perfectly

Yelp
I've worked in Chandler now for 25 years and it amazes me that I've never been to Elmer's Tacos before. It is tucked away from the road a bit as it's located just North of Chandler Blvd on the East side of the street- right across from Chandler High School. I went at lunch time on a Tuesday hoping for deals and they did have $1.99 street tacos. The parking lot wasn't too filled but as soon as I stepped inside the restaurant was packed with high school students. I got in the long line but it went quick with two cashiers taking orders. I ordered 2 Al Pastor and 1 spicy chicken street taco and a large drink. The drink was a bad idea as it was mostly ice and boosted my total by almost $4. The best part of the visit was I only had to wait about 4 minutes for my food despite all the people and orders ahead of me. They get the food out fast! It was a little awkward to wait inside as it was cramped and noisy...so I was very appreciative of the speed. The indoor seating was full so I sat outside on a concrete bench under an umbrella (kept the sun off on an unexpectedly hotter February day). The tacos came in a small styrofoam box which had 3 smaller street tacos and a hot sauce cup. Now to the biggest disappointment- the tacos were only so-so and they were only 3 or 4 smaller bites each. The cabbage added a little crunch and white color. The pastor didn't have much flavor, not like some other places where you get a blast of spice and pineapple as soon as you bite in. The spicy chicken didn't taste very much different than the pastor...should be very obvious in a blind taste test which is which but I may have failed if tested. The hot sauce was pretty good and became the main way to add any flavor. I was hoping this would be a good new spot to add into my local Taco Tuesday options but the size and taste of the tacos just doesn't size up with some other places around.

Yelp
This place never disappoints! I've been trying new things lately, and everything always tastes great.

Yelp
This spot has been around for quite some time and with good reason! I've visited several times and whether I'm ordering a breakfast burrito or a special which usually contains several items, it's always delicious. By far what sets this spot apart is the salsa. (Make sure to ask for extra) I have no reason to not continue recommending this spot for delicious Mexican food. If you haven't tried it, I definitely recommend!
google avatar

Wanda E.

Yelp
Elmers was actually really good. The pastor taco was great... I smashed that before I could get a picture. The tamales however are disgraceful! You could knock someone clean out with one of those bricks. The fry bread green chili taco was also damn good.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
Was in the area and was craving some Mexican food. I wanted something that was going to be good and economical. I ordered a pastor taco, a bean and cheese burro and a cheeseburger for the little one. It's good when you can walk out full for under $20. Service was great. Staff was very friendly.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
The tacos Al pastor! Best homemade and flavorful version I've had so far in the area. Something about the spice combo in them literally makes me swoon. It's the best deal on a Taco Tuesday. I also LOVE their fish taco. It has a nice chunk of fish, not burdened with too much breading, and hits all the right tangy flavor notes. Many dishes here on my list left to try. I'll be back! The staff is very friendly and helpful and the painted wall murals are charming and vibrant. The restroom is smaller than a port-a-John, so go before you go ;)

Yelp
It's Taco Tuesday! So I decided to try the Street Taco Combo plate. Super yummy! Love this place and the prices! Still want to try the fry bread

Yelp
We stopped at Elmer's on Saturday after spending time at the Farmer's Market We shared some carne asada fries, which were bomb!!! It's a nice sized helping. The service is always great!

Yelp
You can tell they truly take pride in what they do, and it shows in both the quality of their work and the way they treat their customers. I felt valued, respected, and well taken care of the entire time.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
I had the Taco Tuesday special and side of chips and salsa and it was fantastic! I had both the Al Pastor and Asada. Both were spot on and the chips and salsa were huge. Im definitely going again to try more of their food!

Yelp
After passing by this place for years and finally stopping in, I really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately I didn't. It seems very popular--there was a constant stream of customers coming in while we were there. There is dining room with photos of Elmer (I presume?) and an old menu that shows a hamburger was $1 and a sofa was 40¢. The staff is super friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. I will start by saying the rice was fantastic! And I really liked my shredded beef taco, too. I had a bite of my son's communications, and it was also great. But the red sauce on my cheese enchilada was not for me. I did not like it at all. I only ate a couple of bites. I also did not like my tostada because the lettuce tasted like pre-shredded lettuce in a bag. I really dislike bagged lettuce because there is a weird taste to me. I only ate a couple bites of the tostada, too. I kind of feel like I should like more than 50% of my meal, and should not and up throwing away 50% of my meal. I may or may not return. So many people seem to love it, so it's possible that I came in an off day.

Yelp
The service here is 10/10! They are so nice and friendly that the service alone would make me come back. The food is also really good so win win all around! Everything we got tasted fresh and was properly priced. It was my first time here and will for sure be coming back! So happy to have found a place that serves delicious food at a good price with employees that will put a smile on your face.

Yelp
This is one of my most favorite places ever, I've been coming here for so many years. I can't even remember how long it's been. Everybody inside is super nice super friendly and the food is absolutely amazing. Try the green chili beef Burritos if you like some spice! Don't miss out on anything else either. Everything is great.

Yelp
I like Elmers, it's a nice go to spot. The food is always good. I wouldn't say it is authentic Mexican, maybe authentic SW food but it is good. I like the variety their menu offers. Only downside is the speed, even for call ahead they tend to be pretty slow. Good luck getting through and getting them to answer the phone. Yes you can order ahead on apps like doordash but the prices are higher for every menu item, at least I have found that to be for what I have ordered.
google avatar

Yelp
We were attending a show across the street at Chandler Center for the Arts and were looking for a quick and simple dinner. Elmers did not disappoint. Yummy food, Friendly staff, reasonable prices. Highly recommend!

Barb G.

Yelp
We love Elmer's...a bit further away from home for take-out but we love their salsa...more on the mild side but has a bit of a kick for us more sensitive to heat people! I love it with their chips, which they load on the cheese. It was Taco Tuesday so we both ordered their Taco Tuesday Special: Two Dinners (you choose between combo #1 and combo #13). We both got the #3 which is two carne asada street tacos with rice and beans and then we each ordered one additional taco. Their tortillas are the perfect size and so soft! They hold the most delicious carne, chopped up with onion and cilantro to make the perfect street taco bite. Their rice is really good with onion and carrots and I personally love their refried beans, although sometimes they can be a bit salty. This time around...perfection! And they make a great dip for their crunchy chips. Overall a great taco-Tuesday meal...I do want to add that their on-line ordering system is a bit cumbersome so wife just went and ordered to go. Wasn't too bad of a wait!

Yelp
Fabiola was AMAZING!!! She was so kind the moment we walked in the door!!! Her customer service was absolutely outstanding as well!!! I hope that Elmer's taco values her as an employee because people like her are rare to find anymore! Not only did she make my first time experience perfect but the food was delicious!!! We will be back!!!

Yelp
We really wanted to like this place because the reviews seem to sell it! It dropped the ball, however, as we placed an online order and ended up waiting a VERY long time once we arrived. They were kind and offered complimentary churros. The burritos themselves were just not it. The egg and cheese one had a fishy smell we were curious about and the bean and cheese one that is listed as most popular tasted charred and overcooked and looked nothing like the melty goodness in other photos. The fries were chewy, unsalted and not it. The buttery tortilla is literally a tortilla filled with oily butter- so maybe that's my fault for ordering. I don't think it's a definitive no and perhaps we will try again sometime but with the drive and experience it won't be anytime soon. Bummer!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Service was fast and employees were kind. They gave us a free horchata which was super kind of them. I ordered the bean and cheese frybread and my only critique is that there was a bit too much cheese for my liking.
google avatar

Kaitlyn H.

Yelp
I stopped by Elmer's for lunch. The restaurant was busy with lots of customers at the tables, but I was the only one in line to order food and it took over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge me. The food was yummy- I really enjoyed my beef taquitos. The salsa was super tasty. My husbands tacos were just ok. He also got "the strips" which was just tortilla chips with unmelted shredded cheese on the side. The restaurant is SO cute, but I won't be rushing back.
google avatar

Yelp
A fairly small Mexican restaurant with friendly staff. I got the fish taco, al pastor taco, carne asada burro, and the red Chile beef burro. First off, the tortillas on everything just sucked. They're tough, chewy, and flavorless. The fish taco was pretty decent but too dry, a little greasy but still fine. Al pastor taco's flavor wasn't great. The meat was too tough and they weren't in bite sized pieces to be comfortable to eat. Red Chile burro was extremely tough. The flavor was very mild. I assumed it was mild in spiciness not in flavor, but I guess I was wrong. The tough beef and the tough tortilla did not go well together. The asada burro was a bit better but still wasn't anything stand out. Not a huge fan of the guac because it made the inside too goopy. Both the burros are fairly small as well. The price is pretty insane considering it's $4.11 per taco. I've had cheaper tacos at an actual restaurant. It was $7ish for the red Chile burro and $9ish for the asada burro. Pretty pricey considering the lack of quality. We also waited a long time for the order to the point where we thought they forgot our order as they called so many people's numbers that were after us. Overall a pretty normal taco experience in Arizona. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Our food was delicious. I had the fish tacos. Parking was annoying. I wish the packaging or serving platters was more sustainable. Loved the fried bread. We will return. So good!

Yelp
I found this place via online scrolling on Reddit, and was sooo excited to try them since they're close to me. Who ISN"T down for a new taco spot??? When you walk in, you're greeted with a homey atmosphere. I heard this place has been around for decades (since the 80s?), and you can certainly feel like you stepped into a time warp--in a great way. It actually reminds me a lot of Yuma, my hometown. On Tuesdays, they have a meal deal where you could get two dinner meals for $18, but they also have a Taco Tuesday deal where it's $1.99/taco (as of January 2025(. There are only three choices for meats: carne asada, pastor, and spicy chicken. I tried the asada and the pastor, and got the loaded carne asada fries. I don't think the carne asada was osmething to write home about; if you like asada, then I think it's up your alley. I felt like it needed a bit more flavour, but the meat wasn't too tough. The pastor was definitely the better of the meats in my opinion. I would come back and only get the pastor tacos, but it wasn't the best pastor in the area I've had. I think it's reminiscent of if you were to go to a friend's house, and their dad cooks you a meal; it's good, it's filling, it may not be the best, but I can see why people enjoy it. The fries in the carne asada fries were really good, but overall, I felt the dish lacked salsa/flavour. I likely wouldn't get the asada fries again.
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
I think about Elmer's once a week! The food is always so good so we ordered a ton to try more things. We got the Fry Bread with Beans and Cheese, Eggs and Machaca Breakfast Burro, Chicken Flautas and Carne Asada Fries. I recommend them all! The machaca was soft and tender. The tortilla is just perfect. And who would have known they have fry bread?! I also got the Bean and Cheese Burrito but I would opt for the fry bread over that since I don't like beans as much. As for the salsa, it's still fantastic. Can't wait until my next visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Hubby & I had a late lunch here today. I figured at 2:30 it wouldn't be busy, but I was wrong. This was our first time here. We wanted a little something to make it to dinner. I ordered 2 potato tacos with a side of sour cream, and a churro fry bread for us to share. Hubby ordered a green chili chicken burro & a red chili tamale. I love potato tacos, and these did not disappoint! The churro fry bread was good too. This was the first time we have had fry bread. I was pleasantly surprised the red taco sauce was not too spicy for me. I am super big whimp when it comes to spicy. They ran out of red chili tamales so hubby was asked if he was okay with the green one which is the elote tamale. He said it was okay. He loved the green chili chicken burro. He had it had tons of green chilies and they were the good ones. The place is small, noisy, and old, buy the food was so good. I can't wait to go back and try the bean & cheese cone, the rice, & other items. I only regret not finding this place sooner!

Mary B.

Yelp
The food and people are amazing they make my life so much easier one of my favorites from there is the green burrito n red burrito and love the strips!!!!

Christine H.

Yelp
Some of the best tacos in Chandler, it does get a little busy when the high school across the streets gets out but they still provide high quality food with fast service. The ambiance is nice and definitely recommend the al pastor burrito and the churro fry bread, so good!
google avatar

Yelp
I love Elmers and have never had a disappointment.....UNTIL TODAY! I had an experience that left me feeling as though Elmers only cares about $$$$ and not the customer. The burro I wanted was chorizo and bean. Menu price was $7.99. A regular bean burro is 4.46 so they are already upcharging $3.50 to add a little bit of chorizo, but its what I wanted soI ordered it. However, the price was $10.99! Another $3.00! I pointed to the menu and showed them it was $7.99 and asked them to correct it. The lady said, "the owner changed the price" and I said ok, but your menu says 7.99. She said " do you want it or not"? I said NOT and took my money down the road. 1st off...honor your menu price. Or at least check with a manager if you can make an exception. It's a digital menu so it shouldn't be hard at all to change it. 2nd...$6.50 to add some chorizo? WTH? ITS 3.99 A LB ACROSS THE STREET AT FOOD CITY! I understand that prices have gone up but this is nuts! It's not like you're importing it from China. Ill be back again because Elmers is an institution here in Chandler, BUT its not THAT good. (BTW the prices on the website match the menu. Both say $7.99 for the chorizo and bean burro)

Yelp
From the moment we stepped inside, Taco made us feel right at home with his greetings and attentive service. He was super friendly and knew all about the menu, giving us some great recommendations. The food was amazing. It's rare to find such a perfect combination of delicious food and top-notch service. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a welcoming dining experience!

Yelp
Elmers Tacos, 2024. I placed an order via the app for pick up. It was taco Tuesday, so I figured it would be busy. That is why I placed order via app for pick up. When I got to the restaurant, a single line stretched the length of the dining area. THERE NEEDS TO BE A LINE STRICTLY FOR ONLINE PICK UPS. Additionally, my order was finally ready 13 minutes after my pre-arranged pick up time. Tacos were good, and sauce was very hot - which I LOVE! If they can get the logistics issues together, I would love to give this place another shot. However, not sure if I will because there are a bunch of other great spots in the area.

Yelp
I had an impromptu lunch here a few weeks ago with a friend, and while it wasn't my choice to come here, the food was a pleasant surprise. I was in the area and needed a lunch spot and asked my friend to choose, so this is where we ended up. We walked in, and this place was packed with people, so that's a good sign! Means meals are being made and lots of them! Which usually means fresh! I, unfortunately, have some tummy issues, and for some reason, there seems to be a pattern that when I do eat spicy Mexican, things start to go awry. I love Mexican, but my tummy puts up a protest, so I try to limit my intake. Anyhow, I was a little worried I would have a flare up, but I tried to stay positive. What caught my eye was the special of the day of tamale de elote. I love tamales and usually can handle those as they tend to be milder and you can choose to add spicy or not. I think this dish came to $8.95 or so and came with 2 tamales, rice, beans and chips and salsa, and the portion was large. I really liked the tamale de elote and had lunch for the next day too and no tummy flareup! Win-win! This is a grab and go place with some seating inside and outdoors. I'd definitely come back for their tamales again!

Yelp
This place is always our go to for dinner before we go to a show across the street at the Chandler performing arts center. I brought my husband here few years ago and he won't go anywhere else now. He loves the food that, ugh. It's very down home and basic. Consistent and tasty! The building is old and needs some updating. It's seen better days. But I over;ok that part because of the food.
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and the quality remains unmatched. In my opinion they make the best bean and cheese burritos in town. The carne asada tacos are also a go to for me. The salsa is so flavorful and they always give you plenty. Quick and friendly service. Truly a hidden gem here in chandler.

Yelp
There are no proper words to describe Elmer's. By far the best Mexican Food in Arizona. I had their Birria tacos meal and churro fry bread, so delicious and fresh. It was very crowded today but the food was made in fast hot and fresh. Beautiful pictures of the restaurant's history, nice decor. Will definitely stop by again whenever I am in the east valley.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
First off, amazing......! We didn't think that we would ever find a great taco/ burrito spot in Arizona at all. We finally made it over to Elmers and WOW......! Birria was on point, great prices, and my wife thought that her mom was in the back cooking it was so good. We will definitely be back to try more items on their super tasty menu. Viva Elmers.......!

Yelp
Amazing food and great service. They go above and beyond. Don't sleep on the churro fry bread!

Yelp
Elmer's recently redid the inside of their restaurant, and it looks great! We couldn't wait to come back when they reopened. This is one of our favorite spots, we love the food, the friendly staff, and the welcoming atmosphere. Also, last night I found out that they have mini burros! So if you're indecisive like I am, you can get a couple of different mini burros! I had the red beef and green beef. They are both SO flavorful, I couldn't decide which one I enjoyed more! My husband stuck with our standby, the carne asada burro. The regular burros are huge! We also had to get a large strips and sauce, because did you even eat at Elmer's if you don't?? We enjoyed the sauce with our eggs this morning!

Lynnette N.

Yelp
I had the carne asada burro, smothered in tomatillo sauce. The burrito was very tasty. It was creamy and there were refried beans in the burrito which made the burrito moist, not dry. I can see why it was voted one of the best burritos in AZ.
google avatar

Amie P.

Yelp
The food here is filling, delicious, and inexpensive. You get big portions in a short amount of time for a small amount of money. The shop is always busy for a good reason. Love their food!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Love this place such good Mexican food. Quality is great. Service is wonderful. Their tacos are so good. Burritos are filling. Good is just like home. They have been around for years. They even have student specials for the high school across the street.

Liz T.

Yelp
Was waiting for my order then I saw a big group come in and got free food ? Then the employee was complaining about a dasher and talking very loud calling them names I thought this was a family established I guess not will not be returning. Next time hire people that move to work and not complaining about everything her name was fabi or something like that.

Alan Zelhart

Yelp
Way, way too much salt in burro and beans. You do not salt; let us add salt if we want it. I have Chronic Kidney disease, so too much salt is not good. On green chilli burro, a lot of filler, not sure what it was, but hardly any beef. This meal was a huge disappointment
google avatar

Alan G.

Yelp
Local and authentic, no frills restaurant that's all about the food. Got the taco plate (3 tacos, rice and beans). All delicious, but especially the al pastor. Wanted to return to try more items on the menu, but didn't have the chance.

Yelp
Came here this morning while I waiting for my cars AC to get fixed at Gary's Auto (block up the street.) I bookmarked Elmer's years ago but I am hardly ever in this part of Chandler so never tried it till I was down there today. I came in around 9am & I was the only one there. The lady that took my order greeted me after a minute & was nice. I ordered a breakfast burrito w/ Egg & Cheese but added Cheese (extra .75¢) & Sour Cream (extra .75¢) I was a little surprised how small the burrito was but for less than $6 it was really good. The bacon was flavorful & crispy the way I like it & there was a bunch of it inside. Also the bacon was not super fatty (which I can't hang with chunks of fat.) The burrito was nicely paired with their hot sauce. I also ordered a large horchata that was pretty decent to wash everything down. If you are in the area I would definitely stop by this place (I will if I am in the area again) but I wouldn't make a long drive just to hit this spot.

Yelp
We ordered on Uber 2 bean tostadas for $7.96 a mex bottled coke for $3.79 and a #2 plate for $15.11 we spend 29.04 but we only received half our order. Apparently they didn't remove the tostadas off their order options. I don't understand how they can make tacos but not a tostada... it's literally the same ingredients. And yes I'm hangry right now.
