Elmo’s Restaurant & Bar - Review - Getzville - Buffalo - The Infatuation

"Elmo's is a beer pitcher-yielding sports bar near the University of Buffalo, and their claim to fame is the double dip wing. Fried and sauced like usual, they’re then coated in another layer of sauce and grilled, which locks in the smoky undertones while keeping the exterior delightfully crisp. There are plenty of sauces to choose from, but we recommend mixing it up with combos like hot-BBQ or cajun-honey mustard. photo credit: James Pici photo credit: James Pici photo credit: James Pici photo credit: James Pici photo credit: James Pici" - David Neimanis

Very unique technique for preparing wings! The double -dipped method with some griling in between makes for an added depth of flavor. At first I was put off about there not being many flavors to choose from. Once the waitress explained that I could mix-and-match each layer of the sauce, I loved being able to "customize" my wings. Ended up with a hot honey mustard that was fantastic! I look forward to my next visit, to see what other great flavor combinations we find.

Google
Maybe we had extraordinary expectations from Elmo's based on some reddit recommendations, but the food unfortunately didn't measure up. First, both the wings and onion rings arrived completely cold. Not luke warm, but cold The meat of the wings was very dry and the wings were too salty. The onion rings would've been great, if not stone cold. On top of it, very expensivel, and the celery wasn't even deveined? Very disappointed. Not sure how they managed to mess up wings so bad. Hope others have a better experience.

We had to wait for a table for a group of 11 but called ahead. Service and food was very good for everyone. Only complaint was the music was a bit loud for conversation otherwise the atmosphere was great.

Google
I got BBQ Cajun double dipped. Tasted like a cookout wings with the little char bits. So delicious. We also got regular hot wings to try out.

Google
Elmo’s wings are unique and very good! Their double dipped wings are a fun twist on a classic wing. We tried honey mustard bbq, cajun bbq, and medium— the wings were cooked well and had great flavors. The charred grill flavor is not my personal favorite, but besides that, very tasty! Our only complaint is that we had to wait quite a while for our order. Definitely visit if you’re looking for a unique wing!

Google
Wings were very tasty, had medium cajun double dipped and bbq on the pit.

Google
Went in around 6:05 pm during the week. Not busy. Was seated right away. Waitress came over shortly after and took out drink order and food order. Chicken wings, chicken fingers and fries. Took 45 minutes to get our food. Not sure what the delay was as it wasn’t busy at all. Honey mustard chicken wings were good. Medium wings were very saucy and more on the hot side than medium. Chicken fingers were good. Service was ok. Bit of a let down in the wing department. Especially after hearing everyone rave about the wings. 4.5-5 out of 10. Decent.

Google
Best wings I’ve had in Buffalo. Double dipped wings are put in seasoning or sauce then fried then dipped again. They’re exquisite. Crispy and succulent, not too spicy. Many flavor options. The staff is really fun and passionate about the wings.

Yelp
The beef on weck was amazing. Wings are good try a double dip. Service was fast for busy Friday night. Prices are fair.

Yelp
You don't want let downs when you are looking at comfort food. You want that part of your soul to feel cared for, instead of being spat upon. I've been spending a lot of time out this way lately and the fam was tired of the pizza races so Elmo's enticing menu proved, well, enticing. We were getting take out on a night that wasn't overly busy so hope was abundant, but also crushed. Requested Onion Rings never materialized. The 30 mild wings showed up as medium. The 10 mediums showed up as mild and the fries needed more oven time. Sure, it's first world problems but you'd hope the order would be complete and a little more on the correct side. That is a careless kitchen. The food might have been better had the kitchen been so also, I'm not mad, just disappointed.

Yelp
Elmo's is, quite simply, the best. The wings are unbelievable, the service is great, and it's as no frills as it gets. Point blank, this place is a must go too. Pro tip: get the Cajun/Honey Mustard double dip.

Yelp
Still a top 3 wing in area. Ordered some Cajun Honey Mustards and Hot BBQs last night. The HBBQs were on point, the Cajun honey mustards were a step down from normal. It was a busy night so they could of been rushing them out. Lacked the sauciness I come to expect. Hot BBQ were a 10/10. Staff friendly as always.

Yelp
Elmo's is a cozy little sports bar, almost a dive but not. Good food and service, but be prepared for a wait. We sat immediately but waited around 50 minutes for our food. Wings are part of the buffalo wing trail and listed as heavy hitters on the buffalo wing coalitions "wing pyramid". I think they were good, with the hot bbq actually being better because they were crispier. The mediums were crispy but somewhat chewy. Overall, they were good but not mind blowing. Also got a chicken finger wrap which was really really good. Fries were overdone but overall it was a good experience. We hit it at a crazy busy time. Id like to try it again at a different time. Wings 7.4/10 and that's the review.

Yelp
Wow. We took a trip to buffalo to try wings. This was my favorite spot. The ambiance gives off dive bar - dimly lit, friendly bartender, cold beer. The wings are simply amazing. I love the double dipped. The fry and then grill give these wings the perfect caramelization. Every single bite was amazing. No notes.

Yelp
Seeking delicious bar food in the Northtowns? Look no further than Elmo's. Admittedly, I've never eaten in here, but each time I've gotten takeout it's been consistent and tasty. They're known for their chicken wings (which you can and should get double-dipped), but more recently I tried their chicken fingers and was thoroughly impressed. Whichever you try, you can get them tossed in one of the handful of sauces in their lineup. Their chicken finger and french fry meal is $12 and absolutely massive. Seriously, it took me two separate meals to finish it all. The chicken fingers are huge and thoroughly sauced and their fries are crispy beyond compare. I would start with their wings here since that's what they're known for, but don't overlook those chicken fingers. It might just be the best value chicken finger meal in the 716.

Yelp
Because I came ten minutes to close I was not served. I spoke with what I guess was the boss and he apologized and told me to come back the next time I was in town.

Yelp
I only had time for one stop for my trip this year to Buffalo and let me tell you I could not have picked a better place. Elmo's was fantastic. My bartender was a wonderful young woman who was super helpful and friendly. The wings are some of the best I have had in Buffalo. They are now #2 on my Buffalo wing ranking slightly below Tavern Nine Eleven. The Beef on Weck is the best I have had since the Pierce Arrow was open. Elmo's is an absolute must stop when u r in Buffalo. The atmosphere combined with the food makes it an absolute must.

Yelp
Wings were huge! Flavors were delicious. Elmo's is highly recommended!! Fries were in point and crispy! Top notch

Wing Kings O.

Yelp
The Wing Kings of Castle started our wing sampling journey with a sure-fire slam dunk, a place on every "Top X wing joints in Buffalo" list and Khalil Mack's former #1 hang-out while he was at UB -- the famous Elmo's. We set off on the maiden voyage; four chicken wing rating virgins armed with no plan and no expectations. After some complaining that we should have picked somewhere closer for our first stop -- 40 mins from Hamburg -- we settled into our new surroundings. The ambiance and decor was as one would expect. A little rough around the edges but they had a good beer selection, the wait staff was nice and was accommodating to our many questions. Now onto the heart of the matter... Sauce (3.5/5): Honey mustard sauce was killer. We also ordered "double dipped Cajun-Medium" flavor but they must've heard "double-dipped Cajun-Medium and hold the cajun". I'm drowning in Frank's Red Hot! Meat (5/5): Good size; meaty wings with no grizzle. That's how you do it, local wing supplier! Cook (3/5): The extra-grill technique made for some heavy caramelization on the sweeter wings which led to mixed reviews at the table. Some enjoyed the sweet char and some thought it dried out the meat and left it a bit chewy. The aforementioned double-dipped wings had a nice juiciness but the excess sauce was difficult to overlook and made the overall wing tough to enjoy. Overall, you did not tickle us, Elmo. Final score (11.5 / 15)

Yelp
It was good 15 years ago and it is still good today. Love their chicken fingers that comes with fries for under $13.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Great wings here! Perfectly fried and grilled. I typically stick to traditional Buffalo style but the bartender (correctly) told me to try the honey mustard + cajun combo and am so glad that I did. These were unlike any wing I've ever tasted - sweet tangy and smokey all at once. SO GOOD! The Hot (traditional Buffalo style) + Cajun did not disappoint either - a good amount of heat but not overwhelming. They surpass many other wing spots in terms of crispiness & meat balance - good sized, not undercooked and a good crunch. A shoutout to the bartender who was super friendly and made great recommendations.

Yelp
I don't remember the last time I had such horrible service and food. They were busy when we are arrived, really quick wait. Having said that, the table that came in at the same time and tables that came after us got their food and many had left before any food came out to us. My friend finally said something after about little over an hour. We were given the excuse the other tables had smaller orders. That's bull. The server forgot to ring in the food. I totally get it, been there a million times and it's mortifying! You at least say something about it taking so long. She only came over twice with water this entire time. We had 3 orders of wings and 1 order of fries. Fries were cold. I had asked the server if the wings were saucy, as that's how I remember the double dip Cajun. I like my wings super saucy and always ask so I can order an extra side of sauce. These things were bone dry, no sauce or cajun seasoning to speak of, extremely overcooked and small. The wings actually ripped up the roof of my mouth they were so dry. At this point we just wanted leave. She never came back for us to even ask for sauce. We were starving and ate part of the food. We should have sent it all back. Got a lovely %10 off.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in because of all the positive reviews. We were sat promptly. Our waitress Nancy was friendly, she smiled, checked on us at just the right moments. I ordered the Cajun chicken wings. They were cooked perfectly. Next time, I'm going to try the double dip with hot sauce and Cajun. My husband ordered a beef on weck. He said the roast beef was very good. There's a nice size bar here as well, and dining was near the bar, but separate.

Yelp
First time I've ever been. I have to say top 5 wings for sure! Maybe top 3. I don't know how I never knew about this place. I definitely will come back. It's a bar so don't expect a high end restaurant but those are the places that sometimes have the best food. Server was nice and friendly.

Tim L.

Yelp
This review is confined to wings beer and maybe fries. Wings, Cajun honey mustard double dip, top notch. Cajun - not far behind. Regular wings are good. Beer is good. Fries if you have to. I don't think I've ever eaten anything else at this establishment, because it's about the wings, hard stop. My best of Buffalo for wings.
google avatar

Tea V.

Yelp
I've been to almost three times now, and consistently, the wings are fantastic. I've had medium, medium barbecue, but the king has to be the Cajun honey mustard double dip, with the medium barbecue a very close section. The wings themselves have ranged from average to above average in size, and they're cooked just right, crispy but not dry. I know this is a bold statement given that Buffalo has Gabriel's gate, which is where I would take someone from out of town for mediums, but Elmos is my go-to place for wings.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
The wings are good if you can get them. We had there for a bit before anybody realized that we were there. The service wasn't the greatest, but if you're in no hurry, wings are worth the wait.

Nancy K.

Yelp
Food is always good. We stop for lunch during the week & the bartender also takes care of the tables. Service is awesome!

Lawrence F.

Yelp
My son was in town from Lexington Kentucky and he wanted Buffalo favorites, wings. On our way to the UB football game so we stopped here. Great choice! Just a typical WNY joint but with that incredible feel or as they say ambiance which is "rustic ". The service was excellent as were the wings. We will definitely return and we would recommend this establishment to others.

Yelp
Our server Becky was great! She explained to us when we walked in that food service may take a while. We had a table for 5with drinks and talking didn't seem long to us!! Great person to have in your Business she's great !!!

Yelp
Elmo's was recommended to me by a local, so I knew it had to be the real deal. Walking in, it was pretty empty at lunchtime with only a few other people inside. We went with the double dip, and got the medium bbq and honey mustard cajun. If you come to Elmo's I recommend getting the double dip. It's what makes them stand out from other places. We loved the flavors we got. My personal favorite was the honey mustard cajun, but my brother preferred the medium bbq. The service was great in terms of friendliness, but it was definitely on the slow side. We waited around 30 minutes for our wings and there were only three other parties dining.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Best Buffalo wings hands-down in this entire area. Extra crispy, char, barbecue and hot. Smaller wing, which I like, gives it extra crispiness instead of those giant wings you get elsewhere that are rubbery.
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
I live very close to Elmo's and have wanting to try their food for awhile. My husband and I were excited to try Elmo's and their chicken wings especially based on things we've heard. We ended up ordering takeout that included 20 wings, a fish fry and a chicken wrap. For the chicken wings we got half mild and half double dip with BBQ and Cajun. Unfortunately the chicken wings were so dry and nearly inedible. The only thing that helped make them edible was dunking them in blue cheese. The fish fry meat was also dry and crusty and not juicy like you traditionally think of a fish fry. The chicken wrap was generous in what was included in the wrap and was decent tasting. Unfortunately a few hours later my husband and I both had massive stomach issues from the food. Based on the dry wings and other food we tried and that we both got food poisoning, we will be steering clear of Elmo's!
google avatar

Ying Z.

Yelp
Very nice service, suggested the sauces and were very good. The wings were crispy and so were the fries. It's definitely like a small pub vibe and there seemed to be a lot of repeat customers and has a dart board.

Kristy B.

Yelp
Inexpensive and everything was great! Everyone was nice, welcoming and the food was amazing. Next time we will get wings because they looked awesome!

Yelp
Located in a strip plaza off Millersport Highway, Elmo's has been a reliable spot for lunch or dinner for at least 40 years that I can remember. They are as good today as they were in the 1980's, they remained open during Covid, and the quality has remained solid. Whereas chicken wings at most other establishments have been getting smaller in recent years, Elmo's continues to serve large, plump wings cooked exactly as you like them. In my case, I like them extra crispy with medium sauce. Their chili as they prepare and serve it is mild, but they will bring hot sauce to your table so you can make it as aggressive as you'd like. Their burgers are a decent size, they cook it exactly as you order it, and they are generous with the lettuce tomatoes and onions. For a dollar upgrade you can get onion rings instead of fries on the side and the onion rings are quite good. They don't have a huge selection of beers, but the beer they do carry is served, icy cold, in appropriate glasses, and their inventory turns over quickly, so you know you're getting fresh product. The bartenders mix a decent drink, not overflowing with ice. The restrooms are more than adequate. They have a dartboard for the patrons to use and very attentive waitresses and bus staff. They charge slightly less if you pay in cash. I have never been disappointed at Elmo's.
google avatar

Jimi H.

Yelp
Wing and Sesame Street aficionados can both appreciate Elmo's equally. I've never been given a larger serving of fries IML than I was served here. Unlike chips at a party, one must double dip when they come to Elmo's. Anyone remember that trend "Overheard"??? Like you would share the outrageous or interesting things you overheard strangers saying at an event or place. Well Overheard at Elmo's: "yeah somethings up with Josh Allen" and "they're my new favorite edibles. Put me right to sleep." 5 stars

Yelp
My friends and I stopped here as part of our wing club. We started it in 2020 before the pandemic, and finally resumed it in fall of 2021. Elmo's was our first stop of the return of wing club. There were five of us on this particular Wednesday night. There was no problem in getting a table at 5:30pm, and throughout the night, tables filed in and out and there didn't seem to be a real problem in seating. We ordered 50 wings, a couple drinks, and a pitcher of beer. The wing flavors we got were mild, medium, hot, cajun barbecue (double dipped), and honey cajun (double dipped). My favorite was definitely the honey cajun. It was delicious. All of the flavors we tried were very good. If I were in the area, I would head to Elmo's again.

Yelp
The wings were amazing! On a business trip to Buffalo, so I was recommended to try Elmo's. I have to say these may have been in the top 2 (if not the best) wings I have ever had! I travel coast-to-coast and beyond, so I have had my share of wings all over this land. These jumbo wings were delish. I like my wings nekkid and burnt, then dunk'em and let them soak up the sauce (the hotter the better). The wings were fried to perfection! The sauce while not hot by my standards tasted great. Also had a basket of fries and a Greek Salad to start. I was there with a business colleague and there was so much to eat! I highly recommend trying Elmo's. The quiet bar was also great, but the outstanding quality of the food and the fantastic staff made it 5- for sure!

Yelp
(Last visited 11/4/2020.) Working in Buffalo for the week and I had already tried some of the "popular" wing places out here such as Duff's as well as The Anchor Bar. Well, someone AT The Anchor Bar suggested that I come to Elmo's to check out their wings and to get them double dipped. I said "oh"? Well, say no more! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: Right off a Millersport Highway tucked into a plaza is this gem. It's a sports bar FOR SURE. Once in the door the bar is right in front of you and one thing I did like is how symmetrical the restaurant was. It felt like the left side mirrored the right side and the very center of the bar was lined up with the door. Something small, but I liked it. The décor is very lackluster and plain, but that's okay, you're here for the wings! Service: There wasn't much service since I got my food to go, but the bartenders took care of me and got me everything I needed. They explained what "double-dipping" was and all that good stuff. Food: So, I decided to go with a double order of wings, double-dipped. So the wings are first fried and tossed in the "Hot" sauce I chose. After that, they're fried again then tossed in the "Cajun" that I chose. So when you bite into these wings there are layers to the flavor. Your lips and tongue first taste the Cajun, but as you chew the heat kicks up and enhances the flavor. It was really, really good! Value: My 20 wings double-dipped were around $25.00. It costs an extra $1.00 to have them double-dipped, which I think it totally worth it! In conclusion, this was a great recommendation and I appreciated it. I would certainly return here if I'm in the area again.

Yelp
Went to Buffalo for a day trip and wanted to have some authentic wings. Highly rated on yelp so i went to try this place. It's a bar type setting with many TVs showing sports. They are famous for wings which is exactly what I order. My boyfriend and I shared a double order which is about 2 lbs of wings. For double order you can actually do two flavours. I was curious with the double dip so i asked and they said it's a mix of two flavours. They recommended to try Cajun and honey mustard which is exactly what we got and the other flavour was medium. It took a while for our order to arrive on our table but everything was tasty when the wings made it to us. The skin was crunchy and meat was tender moist. The flavours were sticking through the chicken and they were really good. I really like the wings. The only thing I'm disappointed with why I'm giving it 4 stars is the wait. We arrived and ordered at 4:30 pm but the food didn't arrive until like 5:30 or so. It was not dinner time yet but it took a while for the order otherwise i highly recommend this place!

Yelp
First time eating here, Buffalo Wings the wings and fries. I'll be back. Service was a good, nice atmosphere

Yelp
Group of friends from Cleveland decided to go all-in on a weekend tour around Buffalo, of the Wing Trail restaurants. This was stop #1. This place is known for their "double-dipped" wings...first fried, then tossed in a sauce, then grilled, and finally doused in a different sauce and served. We wanted to experience this phenomenon, so we ordered 10 traditional Buffalo style hot, 10 BBQ hot and 10 Cajun honey mustard. Then just to break-up the monotony of only eating wings, we threw in an order of onion rings for good measure. Those onion rings were plump and well cooked, everyone enjoyed them. As for the wings, their traditional Buffalo style were just the right size, piping hot and super-crispy (which we soon learned was a thing in Buffalo, and we all loved it). As for the double-dipped varieties there was a clear winner...the Cajun honey mustard ran away with the title! The combo of spices with a bit of heat along with the sweet and zippy honey mustard was addictive. Spoiler alert - we sampled wings at nine places over the weekend and these Cajun honey mustard wings was the #1 consensus choice of best wing we ate!

Cory D.

Yelp
Wings reached my expectations they were definitely great wings would come back. Clean environment Nice staff Came at lunch not busy
google avatar

Irfaan A.

Yelp
Best wings in the country. Just incredible. They grill the wings so they're nice and crispy and have a char to them. Additionally, they can mix flavors. Every time I'm in Buffalo, I make the pilgrimage here to have the Cajun honey mustard and Cajun BBQ wings. Straight bussin. And the best part? They often overestimate the wing count. Multiple times I've ordered 20 and ended up with closer to 30. Can't be beat
google avatar

Vanessa P.

Yelp
So disappointing. Over the last year Elmo's has really gone downhill. Last night they left off part of my order so I had to go back and pick it up. When I got home I noticed that the wings were small and they'd shorted me a few wings in my "triple play". The sauces were good and the wings cooked fine when ordered extra crispy. The last time we went the wings were undercooked and the sauces were inconsistent. With Wingnutz now open just down the street, Elmo's had better get their quality back under control or they won't last.

Stan W.

Yelp
Service is horrendous. I recently went there and ordered wings to go and 20 minutes after I ordered a couple came in and sat next to me and ordered wings and they had there wings and before I got my to go order.

Preeti S.

Yelp
Loved loved loved elmo's. Great wings. Great service. Really enjoyed this. A little pricey but wings are pricey so it's fine.

Chris C.

Yelp
The best wings in town, which is saying a lot. And the wings are only second to the staff - the friendliest in town. The bartenders and servers are excellent. I have memories going to Elmos as a kid and now to be a regular and share new memories with my family is amazing. Some variety in bottled beer would be a nice touch from time to time. I do crave a nice Guinness or a seasonal beer at times.

Maritza D.

Yelp
First time here, wings were excellent, fries were great. Place was packed for a Wednesday and we still received prompt and great service!!
google avatar

Fred R.

Yelp
Heard good things about Elmo's, had to try their wings. Ordered char barbecue and Cajun honey mustard double dipped. Wings are large and prepared perfectly. The honey mustard Cajun are probably the the best wings ever. Delicious.
google avatar

Kayla B.

Yelp
Always delicious wings! We recently tried the fish fry which was enormous and the star of the show. We ordered this for takeout and it was ready within 20 minutes and piping hot when we picked it up! The sides didn't taste homemade, we ate the fish and loved on. Make sure you bring cash since they don't accept card payment!

Steven P.

Yelp
Wings were so good that I didn't even have time to take a picture before I destroyed them. I got the double dipped Cajun and Honey Mustard, I've never had honey mustard wings and these made me contemplate all my life's decisions regarding wings up to this point. Im not from the area, Elmo's was recommended to me by a friend when I asked for the best wing spot in Buffalo. Can confirm, best wings I've ever had. The service was incredible and the vibes were great. 10/10 recommend the wings 0/10 recommend wearing white clothes.

Jen L.

Yelp
Very disappointed in our recent takeout order from Elmo's. The majority of our wings were covered in feathers. When I called the restaurant to talk to them about it I was told that's how the come from the distributor. It should be the responsibility of the restaurant to make sure that is not how they are serving their wings! Was offered a 15% refund.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
First time trying Elmo's because I've heard great reviews and they are hands down The best wings in buffalo... sooo saucy and crispy! Only thing I'd complain about is not as many flavors as most places.
google avatar

KJ C.

Yelp
Ate here with my daughter on a Saturday evening after a recent college visit. There was a wait of about 30 minutes as the place isn't very big, but with a screen at every angle watching hockey made the time go by quickly. In the end, it was so worth it. We ordered 2 types of wings, traditional Buffalo Hot and Cajun Dry Rubbed. The Buffalo Hot wings were phenomenal! Crunchy and perfectly sauced. The Cajun ones weren't very spicy and definitely needed some type of sauce, but that's why you try things, right? I had Roast Beef on Weck (When in Rome...) which was absolutely amazing... a huge amount of meat without a trace of fat or grizzle, on a well-seasoned roll, with horseradish on the side. Perfect! My daughter enjoyed her Western Burger, which got the best of her as it was simply too much with the wings, well-done fries as requested, and excellent onion rings on the side. The service was outstanding and friendly. I highly recommend Elmo's and look forward to returning the next time I am in Buffalo.

Yelp
DOUBLE DIPPED WINGS, FEED ME THESE FOREVER!!! I know I love wings, I know I've given many places the best wing vote, with great reviews. Elmos has changed the way I look at wings FOREVER!!. Hands down the most unique taste ever! The wings are huge and it's kinda hard to explain the scrumptious flavor. I ordered Cajun and honey mustard. (Plenty of choices for your double dipped combo)What is done is the expertise of the chef frys the wings and coats first sauce then, char-grills and then uses the second sauce. Brilliant concept, exceptional taste it is pure utopia after every bite. I'm a huge wing and blue cheese guy..... but these wings are so tasty I was afraid to lose the flavor or spoil the fantastic masterpiece that was created by the chef in that kitchen! The wings were enormous in size and in taste. There are no other wings that I know of that are comparable to this taste. Forget about comparing to others like Duff, Anchor, Gabriel.. These wings will forever be the most spectacular unique taste I've ever had. If I lived in Buffalo I'd be at Elmos at least twice a week!! Onion rings were also good. The waitress was also the bartender. She was great and kept up with the busy restaurant/bar! This place was extremely busy for a weekday. The place looks like an average bar from the outside, don't judge walk in and get double DIPPED wings. Best wings ever!!!!
