"Owner and chef Libby Billings opened Elote Cafe in 2008 with limited lunchtime hours and the goal of closing in time to pick her kids up from school. Since then, both her kids and her restaurant have grown. This colorful, vegetarian-friendly downtown spot is known for puffy tacos (black beans and sweet potatoes for the vegetarians; chicken, pork, or beef for the omnivores) and Tequila Club, which honors customers with a plaque if they sample 30 of the bar’s 100-plus bottles. Billings centers her restaurant around serious sustainable practices and playful community events, including pillars of the calendar like drag brunch and lucha libre." - Jess Brent

Very delicious food, glad I tried it this one time. Got the fajitas with both chicken and steak( very glad they let me do this). My server was very nice, and even picked out the salsa for me to try! The mango salsa is very delicious and very spicy.

Wife and I went for lunch since we were in town for a conference and we like to hit up Man v. Food spots. Food was good, she had puffy tacos and I had nachos( sorry no pics of food). The restaurant was loud and it was hard for me to hear my wife as we conversated. Staff was great and made good recommendations on food. Atmosphere was very cool with all the Mexican wrestling theme. It seemed very busy when we went.

Came in for lunch, everything was amazing. The wife and I both had a plate of different items, and everything was delicious, the elote tamale was amazing. The fried elote app was my favorite.

Google
I had the chicken puffy tacos with rice and veggies and it was absolutely delicious. Ashlin was our server and was very sweet and made sure we had a great experience. I will definitely be coming back

I was starving having walked thousands of steps in the 100 degree heat of Tulsa. I chose to eat here because it was so close to where I was staying. I was immediately taken to a comfortable booth and Ashlan made sure I had chips and salsa immediately as I studied the menus. The mango margarita was excellent. It really hit the spot as did the ice water which Ashlan made sure I had plenty of. It was like she was a mind reader. I ordered the spinach avocado quesadilla which also arrived before I had destroyed all the complimentary chips. The quesadilla was delicious. If you’re looking for delicious Mexican food and drinks, this is the place when you are in Tulsa.

Went for the Vegan Chef Challenge. We enjoyed a few of their options. We really liked the Vegan Queso and the Empanada the best of all we ate. The refried black beans were tasty. We also enjoyed a coconut margarita 🍹 😋 yum! Great place.

Google
Elote is one of the best Mexican food places in Tulsa. Very unique tacos and an incredible selection of tequilas! Like incredible!! I’m pretty sure there were like 100 or so different tequilas! The food was extremely great! I loved those sweet potatoes! Service was fantastic as well!!! Go there! Go there now!

Yelp
Great Mexican food. And great margaritas. Food came out fast and the tamales were great.

Yelp
my initial review was 10 years (!!!) ago & i still come here often. if it's not the puffy tacos, it's the bbq beef tacos, which is what i ended up getting last night. i had the options on tortillas & i ended up getting corn (which was the best of tortillas fyi). more than plenty of bbq beef in each of the two tacos along with tons of jalapenos & queso fresco on top. it could get messy & i wouldn't want it any other way if the tacos are going to be hooked up the way they made mine. it was so good i actually thought about the next time i'd get them again & when i do, it'll be with the puffy tortillas instead. the black beans & rice were my choice of sides & that's something i'll always roll with 9 times out of 10. this a reminder that every wednesday is puffy taco wednesday where every chicken or veggie puffy taco is $2.50 from 4pm - close. you might walk in catching this spot having karaoke. not only that, you might even catch some luchador wrestling matches & the one i saw a few years back was super entertaining.

Yelp
Staying nearby and wanted a vegetarian friendly place within walking distance. So glad we found Elote! Our server, KJ, was thoughtful and on top of things (like getting our order for drinks and apps in under the wire for the Happy Hour discount!). We tried their Elote nuggets - so good with two dipping sauce choices! Also ordered a coconut margarita for my husband and the sangria swirl marg for me - both different and just what we wanted after a long day of driving. Dinner we shared black bean and sweet potato puffy tacos and a taco salad. Biggest problem was we just over-ordered because it all sounded so good! The Luchador-themed decor was fantastic and so vibrant - we were entertained enough to take several photos. Quite a bright and colorful spot that made our day with great service and delicious food.

Yelp
Grant and I visited Elote for, what I'm embarrassed to admit, was the first time last week. We really enjoyed our meal and both remarked that we would be visiting again soon! For all of the great food in Tulsa, I sometimes feel like the Mexican food is pretty hit or miss - so it's great to find another awesome stop to add to our rotation! A few of my favorite items were the cream cheese queso, the puffy taco, side of elote corn off the cob, and my coconut strawberry margarita!

Yelp
This community Yelp event was SO much fun! We had excellent service, margaritas on the rocks and blended, their layered dip was very tasty and filling, chips came out nice and hot, the puffy chicken tacos were puffy and good! The food was very tasty and fresh. Karaoke is the 1st Friday of the month, and then they have Bingo on the other Friday nights. KAROKE was ALOT of fun! My family and I had a great time! Thank you Yelp, Jahaziel, and Elote's for a fun and yummy night. Great family restaurant Bathrooms were very stylish, unique and clean. They also have an outside area dog friendly patio.

Madison W.

Yelp
Elote's Drag Brunch is one of my favorite things to do in Tulsa! They hold these every second Saturday of the month. I would recommend getting tickets at least a couple of weeks in advance especially if you are needing a table for 6+ people. They offer a few food/drink specials, and sometimes even have specialty food/drinks that match the theme of the brunch! Bosston, the queen who emcees the event is charismatic and SO FUN and makes you feel apart of the show! There are a few local queens that appear every month but they are always bringing in talent from around the country so it's a new show every month! I've brought 20+ people to this event over the years and everyone raves about it! Highly recommend PS, bring a $20 bill and they will make change for you so that you can tip the queens

Yelp
Went to Elote for food, drinks and karaoke with girlfriends! It did not disappoint at all! Food was delicious, drinks were amazing, karaoke was so fun. Wait staff was very attentive and atmosphere was festive. Highly recommend if your looking for a great spot!

Yelp
Had a blast here during the tacos and margs crawl. Love the vibe of the place. Soup was the based thing I had.

Krupa H.

Yelp
Fantastic food, service and drinks are to be had at the most sustainable restaurant in Tulsa! Best Cinco de Mayo celebration in the state at this fun, cute Mexican establishment that supports diversity in the local community.

Yelp
Megan was a superstar. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Very nice waitress.

Kelsey P.

Yelp
Coming back an updating to 2 stars since they refunded my dinner, no contact from management but I noticed it on my billing statement.

Bobbie S.

Yelp
The food, drinks, and service were amazing! Foster Maddox was our waiter and he was so awesome! Our dining experience was wonderful and I feel a lot of it was because we were blessed to have him as our waiter!! We also got the last 3 Tequila Club Shirts!!!

Paul J.

Yelp
In the middle of nowhere, Elote Cafe popped up, and my tummy started to growl. So we found ourselves nibbling on chips and spicy salsa while slaking the wind blown thirst of Tulsa with a PBR N/A. Friendly staff and a wide-ranging menu with a mid-century cantina feel. We got a veggie burrito, some tacos, and a puffy taco just for fun. And fun it was! A gem of a hole in the wall.

Yelp
We dined here last night after my daughter had suggested we go back. It had been several months since our last visit and at that time the food and service was about average. Food ordered with grade: Chicken burrito - 7/10 Pros - good portion size and flavor. Cons - none Pork tamales - 7/10 Pros - well made tamale served warm in husk. Cons - none Supplemental - side of Elote off the cob was very tasty. Puffy Tacos - 6/10 Pros - generous large chunks of chicken in tacos. Cons - too much chicken and sloppy. Also, VERY soggy and difficult to eat...tasted like canned chicken and lacked flavor. Tortilla Soup - 6/10 Pros - nothing according to diner. Cons - soup was barely warm and lacked flavor. Also, entire group was nearly finished eating until soup was returned to at table at adequate temperature. Synopsis: This restaurant has been around for a while and was great for many years, but unfortunately it has been underwhelming the last few times we have been there. Will I go back? Probably. When the owner used to be onsite it was clicking on all cylinders.

Terry B.

Yelp
Tried again and it was ok but not impressed! The Tortilla Soup sounded good on a cold day however, the soup was just warm - definitely needed to be temperature hot! The Scoop Slam & White Queso were just ok as well - I would definitely pass on the White Queso!

Tammy M.

Yelp
This is my second time to dine at Elote Cafe. I love the wide variety of vegan options especially the sweet potato and bean puffy tacos. Our server, Megan, was very nice and attentive to our needs.

Nate B.

Yelp

Gena L.

Yelp

Yelp
Update Pros: We keep coming for the puffy tacos! Are there no other good puffy tacos in town? Cons: The service here is truly terrible. We have to stop coming here. Tried to order at the bar. Bald white guy taking other people's orders kept yelling to us "Go to the back. You can order any other place at the bar." After 15 minutes of waiting, he yelled at us again. My friend yelled back, 'You keep saying that but we have can't back there. We've tried twice. " He apologized, took other people's orders that arrived after us, and then took her order. Tried the house margarita again. Still terrible. Tastes bitter and sour? Yuck. Tried to research why online. You know, by reading their description of what goes in it? No explanation why so bad. It remains a mystery. You can get puffy breakfast tacos at the Tulsa Farmers Market, but they're always so soggy. 11/20/2019 Pros: My friend and I LOVE the food here. I usually get the brisket on a puffy taco, chicken empanada, sweet potatoes, and elote/corn. I think I get all this for less than $10. If you check in through social media you get a free churro! My friend usually orders something similar, but she gets all her stuff without dairy. Cons: We want to eat here more often, but they have inconvenient hours. Plus parking is a pain. We once came here for a Cinco De Mayo street event. The margaritas we tried were terrible. We couldn't take more than a few sips before dumping them out. Wish they had more bathroom stalls. My tummy was upset, but I didn't want to take too long in case someone else was waiting.

Bette D.

Yelp
Sat outside. Enjoyed the atmosphere our server and the food is excellent! Thanks Megan for a great experience!!

Alan G.

Yelp
This is a fun place... But sadly I didn't have the best possible experience due to an unpleasant server...(but those can be at every restaurant, lol) I still had fun & the food was nice & The music was great and overall the environment was good. I'm glad I gave it a try, I think you will be too. I can't remember the bartenders name but she was super helpful and super friendly. :)

Grace F.

Yelp
The highlight of my week is Elote's 2.50 puffy tacos on Wednesday nights. Always an extraordinary experience, KJ and Megan routinely go above and beyond as our regular servers but the whole crew is responsive and engaged.

Aleesha O.

Yelp
The venue is fabulous, service was great, and the food was top-notch! I would highly recommend anyone visiting Elote café!

Tyrone S.

Yelp
Great food good drinks and Luchidores fighting in a ring! Need I say more!! Definitely get there for Cinco de Mayo they have the best street festival in the city

Tonia K.

Yelp
Arrived in Tulsa after a long day of travel and was in search of something good that didnt require too much fuss. I didnt have a taste for anything specific so I did a quick search of spots in the area. Overall, Elote was a good choice for takeout. My group ordered different meals and generally enjoyed. I had the puffy tacos, which I understand is a popular items. The flavor was good and the tacos were a nice balance of crispy and soft. My order came with chips and salsa, which I wasnt expecting. I had the Jamaica beverage and it was good, though I have had that drink in other cities where it was more flavorful. As a visitor, I cant say it would be a regular spot but I'll definitely say its a good choice when downtown.

Dusti M.

Yelp
The service was not great. Food came out wrong and was forgotten about. The manager blamed their lack of competence on "working too much yesterday". Then close today if you can't keep up with your job. The food hasn't been great the last few times I've been in but wanted to try again. I won't be coming back after horrible service. The manager blamed us for their server not putting our food through to the kitchen. Never coming here again.

Larks T.

Yelp
Great Mexican food. The vegan puffy taco is a really good reason to go back, and they have p plenty of vegetarian and vegan options (they have Beyond meat crumbles). Plenty of seating- restaurant, bar and patio.

Chris W.

Yelp
Another gem in downtown Tulsa! Chicken Empanada - Check Tomatillo Enchilada - Check Puffed Beef Taco - Check BBQ Taco w Jalapeño Relish - Double Check Corn Soup - Triple MF Check Also, Macy out bartender was super helpful and really sweet.

Dan L.

Yelp
Elote Cafe is a cute hip restaurant downtown. It was close to my hotel so a quick walk. The restaurant decor is set up with lively colors and a cool vibe. It does fill up and get quite loud and lively. Service was also very good. I ordered the combo, of beef taco and pork tamale. To be honest, the tamale was kind of bland. The taco was very flavorful. You also get two sides and I chose the elote and sweet potato. I enjoyed both sides and it was a good change from the regular rice and beans you usually get with Mexican food. Overall it was a nice meal and I enjoyed their margaritas.

Joe S.

Yelp
One of the best Mexican places to eat in the USA. I travel extensively and am very opinionated when it comes to food. This place is excellent. I have their vegetarian burrito. It's packed full of black beans and sweet potatoes. Highly recommend it and the Elote on the cob. You won't be disappointed. Portions are awesome and prices are realistic!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
We stopped into Elote Cafe while passing through Tulsa. I wanted some good texmex and Elote Cafe delivered. The place is SO CUTE from the outside. The entrance is colorful and inviting. They have an outdoors seeing area with numerous tables. We were kindly greeted by the host and seated immediately outside. The menu is AMAZING and contains vegetarian and vegan options of almost everything. They have all the essentials, delicious margs, appetizers, salads, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. It took us a minute to decide what we wanted because the menu is literally overflowing with amazing options. For drinks, I ordered the Aztec Margarita with smoky wild shot mezcal, cointreau, muddle lemon, lime, orange, and sweet and sour which was strong and got the job done. GF ordered the Orange Mint Margarita which she described as "a mojito, an orange crush, and a margarita had a threesome". She didn't feel like it had much alcohol in it but it tasted amazing. For our meal, we started with the nachos. Black beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato onion relish, jalapenos, crema fresca. and an additional choice of meat. You can tell the chips are homemade, they're so crisp. The toppings were delicious but a little bit sparse. We also ordered to share, the blackened jackfruit tacos and the stacked mole enchiladas, both with the choice of two sides, I ordered black beans and elote, and GF ordered black beans and rice. The blackened jackfruit tacos are made of corn tortillas, slow cooked jackfruit, kale, avocado, black bean corn relish, and barbecue sauce. They were AMAZING. Possibly the best tacos I have ever had. The combo of textures and flavors in this was incredible. The stacked mole enchiladas with three corn tortillas stacked and filled with beyond beef (chicken also an option), sauteed zucchini, carrots, black bean corn relish, cheese, apricot, and pine nut mole sauce were also fresh and delicious. The flavor was lovely but I also really enjoyed eating actual vegetables for a change on this trip. The elote is offered both on and off the cob which I love. It was SO GOOD and creamy. Also the server was literally one of the best waiters I have ever had. He was so attentive and continuously ensured that our water glasses were filled and that we didn't need anything else. I cannot get enough of this place and I am so glad we stopped by. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Amy V.

Yelp
Our server was great tonight! She was super sweet; however, the food was not as good as I remember from years ago. The salsa was mediocre and the puffy tacos meal lacked flavor and pizzazz. My kids got the quesadilla and it was good but the chicken was a bit spicy for a kid option. The spicy peach honey farmers market margarita was wonderful though! Also, there was a big group of people just hanging out around one small table outside just passing around some sort of rolled cigarette or joint or something that I had to go speak to and asked them to put it out so my family and I could try to enjoy our Al fresco dining experience in a smoke free area. The servers didn't seem to be bothered by them smoking though although we noticed immediately upon arrival that they were. It seems the Elote charm I knew years ago when I had lived here previously might be a thing of the past. It was my husband's first experience and I kept having to tell him to stay positive. The rotating beer he thought might have been a good local ipa choice was not in stock either so there were a few disappointments this evening but our server and my margarita were the best part of our dining experience this evening.

Kristi O.

Yelp
I went here for the taco and margarita crawl and I had the chicken puffy taco. It was amazing I love the tacos I can't wait to try more food here.

Kenadi D.

Yelp
so yummy! came on Wednesday and got the special puffy tacos and they were great! Meagan was amazing and took great care of us!

Emma S.

Yelp
Henry was an amazing server! Explained the menu items and provided quick service. Henry also held my delicious hibiscus margarita as I drank it because my hands are too small to hold the glass

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Good menu. We all ordered a combination dinner because we all wanted to try multiple items. We started off with some corn. It's usually a side dish but we ordered to start with. That and the punisher salsa, it was worth the $1.50! I loved the chicken empanada and beef puffy taco. Beans were tasty too. We got some Skinny margaritas and they weren't too strong, I prefer them stronger. It's not my favorite cocktail to get while out because they are rarely strong enough for my taste but my mom would love them. Overall great meal and excellent service. A bit of homeless hanging out outside so not somewhere I would walk to alone in the dark.
