"Emack and Bolio’s is one of the best places to get ice cream in the city, whether you live near the UES institution or not. Most of the flavors here are available as ice cream or soft serve, and if you’re feeling really ambitious, you can get yours in a waffle cone covered in things like rice crispy treats or Oreos." - hannah albertine, nikko duren

"Emack and Bolio’s looks like it was designed by a child with a crayon and then actualized by adults who know how to make really good ice cream. They can do most of their hard flavors in soft serve form, and if you’re feeling really ambitious, you can get your soft serve in a waffle cone covered in things like rice crispy treats or Oreos. P.S.A - there’s another location on the UWS but they don’t have any soft serve." - hannah albertine, emma, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, matt tervooren

"Emack and Bolio’s belongs on any list of the best ice cream in the city, regardless of hard-serve or soft serve. This Uptown institution can do most of their hard flavors in soft serve form. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can get your soft serve in a waffle cone covered in things like rice crispy treats or Oreos. P.S.A - there are locations on the UWS and UES, as well as in Brooklyn Heights and Fort Greene (but the UWS and Fort Greene don’t have any soft serve)." - Hannah Albertine

"Emack and Bolio’s belongs on any list of the best ice cream in the city, regardless of hard-serve or soft serve (in fact, we’ve put it on both). This Uptown institution can do most of their hard flavors in soft serve form, and we have a hypothesis that Emack and Bolio’s menu went through R&D with a focus group of particularly imaginative six-year-olds. This may explain the fact that you can order your ice cream in a cone covered in fruit loops and marshmallows. Our advice here is to be as outrageous as possible with your flavor and topping decisions. You’re eating ice cream, not choosing an insurance plan. P.S.A - there are locations on the UWS and UES, as well as in Brooklyn Heights and Fort Greene (but the UWS and Fort Greene don’t have any soft serve)." - Hannah Albertine

I headed here after a day’s out with some friends and wanted to get something sweet for dessert and settled on ice cream. I’m not sure how this establishment is very well acknowledged for it’s ice cream but personally speaking I did not enjoy their ice cream at all. It tasted like ice, I could barley taste the flavors if i’m being completely frank. I tried out at least 5 different flavors each having the same effect as the other leaving me quite confused and blinded by the taste. I wasn’t sure what to get since this was the only place nearby and just got some froyo instead from here. Didn’t taste as good as I expected and still had the icy flavor I will also say the employees working here are really not friendly and welcoming, when I first entered this shop I felt very unwelcome as if i was intruding onto a private owned land. Not coming back here again for sure, also very overpriced for a small cup, absolutely bizarre to be paying 9 dollars for s small cup

A real neighborhood gem! TONS of flavors. TONS of toppings. TONS of cone options. I also love how good their vegan options are. A little pricey in general but this place has so much to choose from and there is something for everyone!

Great variety of ice cream flavors. Lots of Options to choose from when it comes to the cones, flavors, and toppings. Very friendly service. Super efficient. Been to a lot of ice cream spots all over nyc and this one has the most creative cones. We preferred the fruit loop cereal cones. The prices are a bit high for the portions. The big wow factor is how beautiful the presentation is. If you’re willing to spend $10+ for two scoop on a nice cone, this is the place for you.

First of all, was shocked by the sheer number of ice cream flavors this place has. also didn't realize they had soft serve! For ice cream flavors tried, "Blueberry Crumble" and "Don't harsh my mellow", a marshmallow ice cream with marshmallow cups. Both were delicious but then I saw they had Ube (probably actually taro), pandan, and when saw they had a Black Sesame soft serve my decision was made. I also happen to be a sucker for fruity pebbles nostalgia and decided would have to try it as a cone. The black sesame was delicious. My fiancé got a vanilla soft serve and it was honestly just really good vanilla. They make the soft serve to order (meaning no taste tests) so took the risk and watched as they scooped ice cream and black sesame into the machine to blend them together. The result was this magical combo right here. The actual soft serve was delicious and the vibe was like eating a fruity pebbles rice crispy layer with each cone bite. Even though they have numerous locations, the shop still gave the vibe of a small local place. I definitely recommend checking them out!

Amazing ice cream with a unique slightly stretchy texture that is quite enjoyable. The flavors are strong but not overpowering, sweetness is just right and prices are quite decent. They allow samples. Their deep purple (black raspberry with white and dark chocolate chips), space cake and blueberry crumble are really good. They also have sundaes and shakes along with other desert options such as chocolate dipped pretzels/ fruit/ Oreos, truffles etc.

Went here on a date with my partner. The worker was friendly. My partner was impressed with his soft serve banana ice cream because it was made fresh to order. I ordered a cake batter ice cream. We both ordered our ice creams with oreo and marshmallow cones. You can’t sit inside to eat but there is a bench in front of the shop which we sat at. A lady walking by said our ice creams looked so good so she went inside and ordered what we had.

We are fans of ice cream and love to try something new every month. My friends recommended us to visit one of the most famous ice cream shops in NYC: Emack & Bolio’s. There is a great variety of flavors on their menu. We had Serious Chocolate Addiction Ice Cream and it was decent & creamy. However, the texture was not our favorite type, a little too sticky sticky for us.

Awesome employees who were super helpful even offering recommendations for flavors to try for next time after we ordered our ice cream already. Ice cream was top notch right up there with other top places I have had and definitely worth checking out.
