Embargo Grill / Little Cay OB

I have been here off and on for the past 5 years. The authentic Cuban style is a little too authentic for my taste. Cuba is a poor country, but this San Diego restaurant really should consider buying new plates. Great menu, good value. Wait staff are very accommodating but did not graduate from charm school. Then again, this could be part of its charm.

First off the name of this place is called Little Cay. I really enjoyed this place, the service was great, fast, and price. The food was authentic, but just be careful when the menu says spicy they aren't kidding. Lol I love the veggie empanadas and the Ropa Vieja.

The service was amazing, the employees were very friendly and the food was amazing! The appetizer empanadas were one of the best foods I’ve ever had! The chicken sandwich and the caribe salad were heavenly. I can not recommend this place enough! It is a must try for everyone!

I discovered this place quite by accident. It's hidden away from all my usual routes, but when my first lunch choice was closed, I did a quick search and came upon Embargo Grill. And I am so thrilled I did! After nine visits, I can safely call this one of my favorite restaurants in town. On my most recent visit, the restaurant was packed, and just one server was working, but service was fantastic. And the food... So good! Every bite was delicious. We started with the mariquitos de platano and sangrias, I ordered the Key West, and he chose the picadillo chop. Both were packed with meat, greens, rice, beans, and so much flavor.

This little eater provides quality Cuban food. I thoroughly enjoyed their sandwiches and specialty plantain fries. In the photo are two different mustard that go great with both the fries and the sandwich.

I ordered the Key West. It was very good. Comes with... Grilled, marinated chicken, yellow rice, black beans and curry sauce, topped with rum-soaked cranberries. Layered with chopped leafy greens greens and tomatoes. I requested plantain instead of the rum soaked cranberries. I also ordered chicken wings, which were very good and didn’t look like they were pumped with steroids. Food was very flavorful and different in comparison to my usual desire for Jamaican Caribbean food. I rated them four stars just because the ladies taking the order were not very helpful with explaining the menu (however one was new). I received more help from the cook who I found very hospitable. I would return because the food is good.

Nice little place, good variety of Cuban staples. Service was great and the servers are friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The empanadas are amazing and everything i had was very well done, will come back again.

OMG. Soooo good. Try the wings... The Caribbean BBQ sauce is out of this world delicious! I got the key West chop... Layered deliciousness. We (speaking for my own fam) Arizonans make it a mission to come here every trip.
