"Modeled after a Cuban cafe, the Uptown speakeasy Emilia’s Havana always has a live band and serves potent rum-based cocktails. And while there's a $50 entertainment fee and a $100 minimum spend, the Celia Cruz songs and mini duck cubanos are worth their weight in gold, so the triple-digit price tag feels reasonable. Emilia's Havana is for when you want to salsa dance with someone you kiss regularly, or when you want unlimited access to a rum fountain." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi
"What was once a storage room inside the Annie Cafe & Bar has been transformed into a Cuban-themed bar with a hidden entrance that can only be accessed from the restaurant’s kitchen. Once inside, help yourself to a drink from the working rum fountain, and settle in for live musical performances, fruity cocktails, and elevated bar snacks like papas and caviar, crab croquetas, and lobster empanadas. Be prepared: each reservation requires a $100 to $150 food and beverage minimum per person depending on the night, plus a $50 entertainment fee to compensate for the two-hour live music performance and a 22 percent service fee." - Brittany Britto Garley
"The entrance to Emilia’s Havana is behind a speed rack filled with Cafe Bustelo in the kitchen of The Annie, but being personally escorted through the threshold takes away the mystery. Modeled after a Cuban cafe, the Uptown speakeasy always has a live band and focuses on rum-based cocktails. And while there's a $50 entertainment fee and a $100 minimum spend, the silky Celia Cruz covers and mini duck cubanos are worth their weight in gold, so the triple-digit price tag feels reasonable. Come to Emilia's Havana when you want to salsa dance with someone you kiss with regularity, or when you desperately need access to an unlimited rum fountain." - Gianni Greene
"This speakeasy-style bar, hidden inside the kitchen at the Annie Cafe & Bar, offers two seatings a night during which guests can enjoy live Cuban music from the cover band and a menu of tapas and cocktails. Try the king crab croquetas with an Old Cuban cocktail, crafted with rum and champagne, and get your fill of rum from the bar’s working rum fountain." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain
"This secretive bar from prolific Houston restaurateur Ben Berg is tucked away inside another of Berg’s establishments, the Annie Cafe. After being whisked away from the cafe’s dining room and through the busy kitchen, you’ll be transported to Emilia’s. Inspired by 1950s Havana, the fern- and palm-lined space wouldn’t be out of place in a Hemingway novel. True to its Cuban roots, the rum is literally flowing here: there’s a rum fountain situated in the middle of the room, from which guests are encouraged to fill their cups. After you’ve sampled the fountain, try some other concoctions on the cocktail list, including the Daisy de Santiago, featuring BACARDÍ Ocho, lime juice, yellow Chartreuse, cane sugar, orange bitters, and soda water."
