"A large hearth oven takes center stage at this pizzeria that doubles as a market selling curated products local to the area. Wood-fired pizza is served two ways one of which is a terrific grandma-style altaglio slice best tried with char-cup pepperoni. The husband and wife behind the operation also run a certified organic farm where many of the restaurant’s produce comes from. Sandwiches and salads make for great beach eats while families can enjoy a Roman inspired thin crust pizza on the picnic tables outside." - Naomi Waxman, Titus Ruscitti

Emma is a unique market, pizzeria, wine & sandwich shop with over-the-counter ordering and an open kitchen. Their pizza menu allows your imagination to wonder if so desired, but you can't go wrong with their staple menu selections. We tried the fungi madness with fennel sausage and the pappardelle. I thought the pizza had a good balance of flavor, but the crust could have been a little more crispy & sturdy. I had to eat the first couple of bites with fork & knife. Maybe a square cut would have worked better. The homemade pasta tasted wonderful as well. The sauce was a little over salted and needed to be a little chunkier. We probably would have had another cocktail if we didn't have to walk back to the counter and reorder one. Small things addressed will make this restraunt stand out from the norm. I applaud the chef/owner Steve for taking the time to ask about our experience at Emma. They are doing things the right way, and I recommend checking them out.

I can’t say I’ve ever been more pleasantly surprised by a place than I was when I dined at Emma’s. The outside is unassuming, some light signage and and some cool looking neon signs to let you know what kind of experience you’re about to indulge yourself in. Normally when I come to a pizza place and see multiple styles of pizza on a menu, I’m disappointed because I assume they aren’t able to fully focus on making one style great. I’m excited to say that that is not the case at Emma’s, as both the NY style and the Neapolitan style were not only true to form, but extremely well executed. Didn’t get to try the Al Tagio, but what I saw looked fantastic. I noticed the team using different ovens for different styles of pizza, which is paramount to executing them correctly. The standout was the pepperoni NY style. For a moderate little town I couldn’t have expected the pizza I got. Big slices, excellent crisp and chew from the dough, and really high quality sauce and cheese. The sign says “char is flavor” and they really nail the balance between enough char to add flavor and not so much to take over the other flavors. Even the bottom of the pizza had beautiful spots of char without being burnt. Big fan of the cupping pepperoni they used, and they did NOT skimp on the amount. Every bite had as much pepperoni as I wanted. I wish I had saved room for gelato or some of the other deserts that looked phenomenal, will make sure to do so next time. If you’re reading this and considering trying Emma’s, I can’t recommend it enough. I’ve had pizzas all over the country and this has to easily be one of the best pizzas I’ve had outside a major pizza city. 10/10, will return if I ever get the chance.

Google
Emma Hearth is fantastic. Their pizza is world class, wonderful char & caramelization. I love the vibe, the smells, the music, and a certain Italian amber lager on tap. They carry an amazing range of specialty foods & beers you can't find anywhere nearby. Staff is friendly & efficient. Definitely check it out.

Just had lunch here at this place. We had their caprese sandwich, fungi pizza and Italian greens pizza. The food came in fresh, hot and absolutely delicious! Safe to say one of the best I have had. Would come here again in a heartbeat.

Google
Road trip to Bridgman landed on this little gem. I am so glad I found this Italian eatery. I ordered a 12 inch homemade fennel sausage mushroom, onion pizza. The crust is charred, not burnt and topped off with fresh basil like a piece should be..A few beers on tap a cooler full of canned beers, wine & other beverages .A cooler filled of gelato. Of course I had to try! I met the owner, all the waitstaff was very nice. They have Italian pantry items also for purchase giardiniera, capers relishes,Truff (yes everything I currently have at home and use) good quality, name brand items, unhealthy ones at that. Clean inside. Ample parking., I look forward to my next visit.

Honestly, some of the best food in the area. Easily. Don’t sleep on Emma’s Hearth. The focaccia makes me cry tears of joy and jubilation. You’ll want to tell your children’s children about the time you had life altering arancini’s at this market.

Whole place and food is chef’s kiss. My teenager hates veggies and salads; but loves the Italian greens pizza. Flourless cake is great. We love this place.

Yelp
Emma Hearth and Market easily gave me one of the BEST pizzas I have ever had - an unexpected delight from a small town in Michigan. As someone who lives in the Chicagoland area, this Italian restaurant / market surpasses most of the pizzerias in my region. I ordered the Artichoke Pesto Pizza, and it was nothing short of fantastic. The crust was perfectly balanced between tender and chewy - soft yet sturdy - and really allowed the flavor of the toppings to shine through. The combination of artichoke, pesto, tomato, cheese, and the rest of the toppings was amazingly flavorful. It redefined my idea of pizza perfection. I also ordered a slice of the Altoglio Margherita Pizza, showcasing a Detroit-style crust. It was amazing and glorious in its own way, but my heart remains with the Artichoke Pesto Pizza. Emma Hearth and Market has set a new standard for pizza that I will carry with me long after this visit.

Yelp
Yummy yummy best tasting pizza in Bridgman Michigan service is good great addition to the area

Erica M.

Yelp
Excellent little market with well-selected Italian wine and high quality pantry items. Every item I have selected from sardines to pasta to gelato here has been perfect. The service is friendly, but not over-the-top. Approachable, clean, and delightful. It is easy to grab a quick bite or pick up supplies for a dinner at home. An excellent stop always.

Yelp
This place is a total gem. It feels like a small European grocer / cafe, right here in SW Michigan. The staff is super friendly and constantly hustling around the shop and kitchen as they all seem to wear multiple hats, but work closely as a team. We opted to dine-in and ordered at the counter. The place was mostly empty aside from one other table, but it completely filled before our food came out so we must've picked the perfect time to arrive (4:45pm) as people poured in behind us. We started w some drinks (highly recommended their wines!) and a farmers salad. So light and fresh - perfect palate prepper before a gluttonous pizza. As a native (suburban) Detroiter, I can say that Detroit style pizza was delish and did not disappoint. Everything tasted so fresh and was cooked perfectly. Glad we found this little gem, and can't wait to try more things soon (saw lotsa meatballs getting ordered....drool)

Yelp
Emma Hearth and Market was one of my favorite places to eat during my stay in Michigan! I was in a group with plenty of food allergies and there something for everybody. My friends said that this ranks among best gluten free pizzas they've ever had. I thought the shop was cute, the service was good, and the food and drink options were top tier. If there are no tables left inside, I highly recommend dining in their outdoor space. I hope to be back!

Luke H.

Yelp
I would never have expected to find a gem like this in such a quaint town. We were here visiting for vacation and were pleasantly surprised to find this little Italian market with such delicious food. My wife has a lot of food sensitivities and there are very few places we can go out to eat, but this place offers a delicious gluten free crust and uses high quality ingredients. She ordered the gluten free Nduja and felt fine! Really look forward to coming back some day!

Yelp
The last time I tried this was the outdoor location in Benton Harbor. This was my first time at the Bridgman location. The food was ok. Margherita pizza, meatballs, cannoli, and some cake from the case. Cannoli was just ok. The sauce with the meatballs tasted like plain tomato sauce, not great. Downside is that it was smoky inside, making it unpleasant to sit indoors to eat, and they forgot my pizza. It was not busy at all. I was waiting for half an hour and only noticed it was not coming because I looked at the emailed receipt and it was not on there. The guy definitely heard me when I ordered because it was the first thing I said and he was typing it in, so not sure what happened there. I also expected the pizza to come out on a plate and not in a box, because it was not a to go order, and everything else came out on real dishes. I asked the kid who brought it if it always comes in a box because I was expecting a plate, and he said yes. So, that was odd. I decided to leave at that point.

Yelp
Stopped into this local joint while visiting St Joe and it was not disappointed! Came in with a large party and we all got a couple of slices to enjoy with some wine. My friend and I shared the fungi pizza and it was everything I dreamed of. The crust was crispy and the mushrooms were perfect. The large leaves of basil really brightened it up. Would love to come again if I ever visit St Joe again!

Nick C.

Yelp
Amazing wood-fired pizzas and toppings - garlic confit, buffalo mozzarella, crispy curled pepperoni. We added on two extra NY-style slices as well as desserts - a classic tiramisu and a dense pistachio/ricotta cake. Great carryout and friendly staff.

Lauren G.

Yelp
I'm honestly mad at myself for not stopping into Emma's sooner! She looks like a regular small market on the outside, but once you see the patio area you realize it's so much more. They have a great menu with some pretty awesome pizzas. My absolute favorite was one that we didn't even order initially. Since the food was taking a little longer than expected, the waitress brought out a piece to get us started. It was the seasonal Italian greens and it was AMAZING! They also have a bar and are doggo friendly. We had such a great time here and will definitely be coming more and more.

Hans S.

Yelp
We ordered pizza to go, our first time. They were really busy and the wait was 1 hour. That was fine by us. The pizza was done on time. The pizza tasted really good but had very little toppings.

Nikki R.

Yelp
OH MY G O S H! I had high expectations based on other reviews and was NOT disappointed!!! The vegan pizza is AHHHH MAY ZING! Such a cute place with great customer service. The woman who took our order had an in training sign by the register- that I thought was fake because she was definitely great! She knew the menu, both food and drinks. I have been kind of all over... at least the US....and always look for vegan options. When I heard another review compare this place to a place in Seattle... it was a must try! I wish I had this place in walking distance! There is a cute and spacious outdoor seating area. There are plenty of beer and alcohol options. We will be back!

David S.

Yelp
Pizza artistry! Very good food. Atmosphere was nice and service was great. They have a great selection and variety.

Valerie F.

Yelp
Edit-food was not nearly as good as what we had last time we went, so that is a big bummer, too. Food is great, but good luck with service on a busy weekend. We ordered 2 sandwiches and a pizza on a busy weekend at 3:05 PM and it was expected by 4:15 PM. It is now 4:45 PM and it is not ready. I already tipped 20% on the order, asked for a partial refund, and was refused/told "we are doing our best" Two sandwiches and a pizza should not take 1.5+ hours (maybe 2) at this point to make. In addition, any restaurant that is in this predicament would either cut off ordering or offer some sort of refund on the order.

Lindsey L.

Yelp
Bad service and way too expensive for what you get. One slice of burnt pepperoni pizza for $8? Tried to order the salad without cheese (dairy allergy) and they said they couldn't do that? They said they could put it on the side after asking again but it's literally a dairy allergy, we don't want the cheese at all. Took 20 minutes to get a reheated slice of pizza and a salad with only chicken on it. The woman who took our order was also rude. We were standing looking at the shelves and she passive aggressively asked if we were in line, even though she had just taken our order. All around bad experience and would not return.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Delicious food! Friendly environment, pets allowed even had a water bowl outside! Highly recommend!

Barrett B.

Yelp
Great pizza, very informative staff, quick service , and the outdoor patio was great for my dog and girlfriend to sit at. Ambiance was great as the patio outdoor has all of their homegrown vegetables right next to where you eat

David W.

Yelp
I thought the pizza was just OK. Really nice inside with some cool offerings from the market and a good sized to go beer selection. But we both ordered a slice of the pizza and even when it got to our table it was a little cold. Not much flavor either. If I ever make it back here perhaps I'll try a different item on their menu.

Yelp
It's been a couple years since my first review and I wanted to take a moment to say Emmas is as wonderful as always. I was especially impressed last time I got pizza to go and was being helped by a young man working behind the counter. I casually said how much my family enjoyed their pizza. With no one around to be kissing up to he said, " I love working here. And I learn so much from Chef who has taught me so much." Gotta say, I already felt great about Emmas, but that was lovely. Keep making such great food and keep up the terrific service. Thank you.

Lindsey K.

Yelp
I've gotten pizza here before and it was good, but you definitely need to eat it fresh. The market area is definitely speciality, so you can expect higher prices. Gelato is good, but expensive.

Katie L.

Yelp
We finally made our way to Emma Hearth & Market after a day of golf and I regret not having gone sooner! The staff was extremely friendly and walked multiple groups through the menu with patience. The market featured a variety of local and speciality products- it could be definitely be a one stop shop for a night of entertaining or a simple dinner at home. The Roman style Margarita Buffalo pizza was out of this world a perfect size to split after a round. Can't wait to go back!

Marcus H.

Yelp
One of the best Pizzas we have ever had. That is saying a lot since we have been to Italy three times. The service was outstanding, they did a great job with recommendations and offered samples. We will go back

Erin G.

Yelp
We ordered 4 take out cheese pizzas on a Saturday evening. Pick up was fine (the lady at the front desk isn't nice at all which is unfortunate for a spot that makes delicious pizza, thus the 4 stars). The pizza is VERY good; flavor is spot on and cooked to perfection! I definitely will continue to order pizza from here and recommend that you do to!

Maria R.

Yelp
Excellent pizza - all types are wonderful! Salads also amazing. Outdoor space is delightful. This is a counter service establishment. We call ahead (they tell us when pizza is ready and we arrive prior to our pizza order finishing so we can get drinks & salads) and eat at Emma's. Limited seating inside but their outdoor space is charming.

Karen S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch with friends. Didn't know what to expect, but it was amazing. They have some daily specials, salads, whole pizzas or by the slice. Lots of pizza options. 3 crust styles, we went with Roman style, the thinnest, cooked in their wood burning oven. We went with the fennel sausage and added mushrooms. The pizza came out quickly and was delicious. Fresh basil on top, crunchy, slightly burnt edges. The sausage was awesome and a mix of mushrooms. The Caesar salad was nice with large croutons which are soft in the middle and well spiced. The special beet salad was very nice; Salads can definitely serve 2. There is wine by the glass and beer on tap and in cans. We got a bottle to split, a nice rose which they had cold, and opened for a $5 corkage fee. The staff was so friendly and helpful. There is a cute indoor area to eat, and a small section with Italian groceries, which was fun to browse. There is ample seating inside, including some shared tables. A nice patio with picnic tables is also an option, and they will bring your food out. I cannot recommend enough.

VitaStik I.

Yelp
Owner is an awesome guy, very friendly and nice staff. Amazing pizza selection 4 different styles of pizza, with tons of topping & cheese options. Authentic imported Italian market foods, treats, wines. Hand made stove. And amazing outdoor garden seating area. Must try, from a man who cares about his business and customers. Mushroom 12" pizza.

Chelsi B.

Yelp
I heard about Hearth & Market on a food critic page on Facebook and ended up coming down the same day I saw the review.  I love pizza and can never pass up the chance to try anything with fresh ingredients supplied by local farms.  While waiting for our pizzas I got to watch to pizza chef cook the pizzas in the wood fire truck. Their food truck will be out and about soon enough but for now you can visit their Main Street location and enjoy your pizza at their picnic table or take it home.  They unfortunately only have 1 picnic table right now but I am sure that's only because they just opened. I ordered the margarita pizza while my husband got the classic pepperoni.  The price isnt bad, $16 for each of our pizzas.  I really loved my pizza but I will admit that the edge of some of my crust was burnt to a crisp.  I was expecting it a little though because the wood fire pizza ovens tend to do that.  Luckily it was only part of the pieces and it was on the crust so I just didnt eat those crusts.  The rest of the slice was still delicious even with burnt edges.  I will be coming back soon and often.

Steven P.

Yelp
Great pizza, great service, great people, great place. NY style pizza with pepperoni hits a home run!

Kelly M.

Yelp
Don't overlook this quaint market with the big tastes! So many options to make a delicious unique meal. Cool to take out or eat in- Emma's can really impress. We tried the charcuterie selection and the combo was amazing- marcona almonds, roll ups and the most delicious spicy giardinera ever to hit my mouth. The ricotta orange cookies are dangerously fabulous-watch out. We were visiting from out of town and the friendly service and awesome bites were simply outstanding! Lots of pizza slices too- wish we were local but trust my recommendation Emma's is a great unexpected hidden gem!

Rita V.

Yelp
Chicago and Detroit pizza is spot on. Sause is the best. Vegan fennel sausage will fool meat eaters. Great selection of deserts to go. Can't wait to try more items.

Hari D.

Yelp
Great Pizza and gelato place. It is a nice fresh, organic local procured and produced kind of market cum restaurant place. The ingredient used in cooking or making food is grown by them or procured locally. They have nice spectrum of gelato. Three flavors of which we tried included strawberry, mango and chocolate. All three were made without ingredients such fillers or binders, corn syrup and colors. All natural and minimum ingredients. Fresh to taste and flavorful- both mango and strawberry. Chocolate tasted real dark chocolate. They do have pizza oven and fire woods to make pizza. Great ambience, great people, clean place and good people around giving good vibes. They have nice out and in dining space. Seems like their is music in nights which we missed. Will come back again. A must try.

Cliff L.

Yelp
Stopped on a drive back east. Loved everything about it. The food was top notch - I had the meatballs, cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. Only thing that would have been better is if I was trying to feed lunch to my rotten kids, who didn't appreciate how good everything was! I'll be back.

Mary Anne B.

Yelp
I started this review in the summer and forgot to post. We have been back since and enjoyed more vegan food, vegan cheese, vegan chocolates and more! Last summer: We went to Emma Hearth and had the vegan sausage pizza and the veggie sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious! Two of us shared the pizza and were very satisfied. We ended up taking the sandwich home for later. We sat on the patio, it was really nice out and the patio is beautiful. The owner was super nice and helpful. Can't wait to go back. The owner has intentionally stocked the store and restaurant with lots of vegan items and is interested in expanding. Looking forward to seeing what he has next.

Kristin S.

Yelp
We went to Michigan for a little getaway and we saw the area had tons of pizza options. After looking around, we landed on this after leaving Weko Beach. I called to see if our dog could sit outside with us (unseasonably warm) and quickly said yes. We shared a pizza and it was absolute perfection. It is on the pricy side but as they say, you get what you pay for. Kind and attentive staff, great outdoor area and food was delish?

Regina M.

Yelp
I love the firewood pizzas! They are real Italian style with fresh and high-quality ingredients. On top of that, the employees are very friendly, contributing to a fantastic whole experience. The place is small but cozy.

Hillary M.

Yelp
Amazing pizza food and owner was very attentive and pleasant to talk too. Will definitely be back when visiting Michigan.

Curtis C.

Yelp
Fresh ingredients, a great owner, and a nod to Italian heritage make this place wonderful. The sausage, fennel pizza was out of this world.

Philip D.

Yelp
Took a drive up to try this place and am sure glad that I did. The pizzas are killer! Tried both the NY style and the Detroit style and both were outstanding. We also shared a salad which was fresh and more than enough for two. Great little shop with lots of Italian beers, wines and food items. Small eating area so it can get a little busy, but worth a trip!

Paul F.

Yelp
There's a real hipster arrogant vibe here. My pizza was ok nothing special but I felt that I should get down on my knees and praise them. It's also a really chaotic place with delays on the food. Mine took about 25 mins. With staff shouting at each other and not in a good way

M F.

Yelp
The service was great. I had a slice of pizza to go it was delicious. I also purchased a mango gelato, really good. I will definitely be back to try more food. We arrived pretty late.

Carly F.

Yelp
So grateful for such an awesome spot that features delicious, local, high quality food with a cool, small town vibe! Love it and will be back for sure!

Allison F.

Yelp
Emma Hearth and Market is one of the best spots to nosh in southwest Michigan. I was so, so impressed with their salads, pizzas, and dessert. If you're looking for a "foodie good" meal, Emma is it.

Christie S.

Yelp
I actually loved the pizza here but after eating most of the Farmer Salad, I found a live caterpillar in my bowl. I would avoid any of the salads here.

Alanna M.

Yelp
FIP-friendly, delicious pizza, lots of unique food/candle items. Gelato, yummy snacks and cooking ingredients, friendly staff.

Eric G.

Yelp
I love that this place is a part of Bridgman. It is much needed for the downtown area. The first time I went there they were still trying to fix some things and it was a newer place. They seem to have gotten things figured out and make a great pizza. They also make great salads and a spicy meatball. I also love the prices they charge for wine which is super reasonable. They have a great patio for you to eat and have a great meal. The place is definitely a must try.

Abby H.

Yelp
We went out for dinner while vacationing at a local Airbnb. I know we will be back because there is far too much to try! We got a delicious salad with balasamic dressing with goat cheese and cranberries. We orders a pepperoni for the kids and the meatball pizza for us. The Kolsch was the perfect beverage for the pizzas. Afterwards we got gelato for the kids. Hope to come back for cannolis

Andrew L.

Yelp
I have eaten at Emma upwards of 15 times now and every single bite has been delicious. The consistency of the quality is outstanding.

Paul L.

Yelp
Really good food. Roman pizza with crispy, flavorful crust; prosciutto pizza with perfect mix of prosciutto, carmelized onions, and creamy cheese. A few excellent local beers on tap. Owner seemed like a true food, wine, and beer lover; helpful, welcoming.

David M.

Yelp
The pizza is above and beyond the call of duty.Every time it's as good as it gets Guiseppie and Steve always deliver
