Emmita's Cafe - Review - Lower Pacific Heights - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The cure for weekly existential dread is always Emmita’s Cafe. The Lower Pacific Heights cafe is the sister spot to Breakfast Little in the Mission, so look for similar morning-time staples like the breakfast burrito stuffed with hash browns, bagels, and a bunch of toasts. They’re closed on weekends, but weekdays are always bustling with workers from the nearby hospital or backpack-wearers grabbing detox juices, cinnamon lattes, and other espresso drinks on the commute downtown." - Julia Chen

Google
I visited Kaiser Permanente on Divisadero, I was hungry and the building has a cafe on site. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the food items, the menu looked very familiar to the one Breakfast Little restaurant on 22 nd street in San Francisco. I asked the cashier about the similarities and she said that indeed, the two places are owned by the same person. This location on Divisadero has more food items than the one on the Mission. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, soft roll with scrambled eggs and sausage, the food was very good, very friendly staff that maintained the place clean.

Google
Apparently same owner as breakfast little. I just ate the Tia Maria at breakfast little so the comparison was easy to make. Emmita’s is way smaller and somehow not as tasty. Still good! But I’m going to breakfast little if I have the time.

Google
Great new spot with quick service and good sandwiches.

Google
Lovely and delicious!! We had OG breakfast burritos and they were bomb diggety. Location is convenient.

Anna H.

Google
Super cute place to sit by the window and have a coffee or snack. They also have a huge variety of food if you want a meal! They are so nice and make great coffee and food!

B M.

Google
The best breakfast burrito I hage had in a long time. OG indeed!

Google
Best juice and bagel sandwiches. I have to grab something at Emmita's when in San Francisco! The staff is the best! Food made to order!

Vonni V

Google
Always out of ingredients and the appearance of the food is very sloppy for the price they charge you’d expect better

Cristina C.

Yelp
Try the breakfast sandwich with a little orange juice, please it was the most delicious little meal I've had in awhile!! Service was fast and simple, I got food after getting some work done around Kaiser nearby. Definitely a fast service place though, not really much of an ambiance.

Yelp
If you frequent Quest/UCSF (like myself, unfortunately), then you will have passed by Emmita's probably a million times. It's a good spot for a little treat after a doctor's visit, which is how I wound up here. The breakfast burrito is standard and solid. Sadly, extra garlic aioli costs extra, so we just added some sriracha. The sausage, hash browns, and (added) avocado make for a filling breakfast that's hard to be bad! It wasn't the best I've ever had, but definitely not bad at all. Service was fast and friendly, so it makes a good pit stop before or after your medical appointment. They also have smoothies, coffee, and juice that looks decent!

Yelp
Emmita's is attached to the Kaiser Permanete building. Across the street is UCSF. Sorry to say, The place gave me the willies. Aesthetics 1 star. Strong smell of cleaning product by checkout. I think it's coming from the lobby. First thing inside the door is garbage receptacles on the left, sandwich assembly counter on the right. The almost empty refrigerated case sports 1 watermelon & a pile of oranges. Emmita's must do a rocking business at lunchtime, didn't see any other cafe nearby. The menu includes juices, take-out sandwiches, oatmeal & breakfast burritos. I ordered the avocado toast. Second cafe I've been to that said they didn't have any bread (?), but they did have wheat, sourdough or bagels. (??) I chose the sourdough. Pretty average store bought taste. I was disappointed that the bread was not toasted, I mean it's called Avocado Toast. I'll give that a pass, the avocado was good, perked up a bit with some chili oil. Definitely regret ordering a side of bacon. Four strips of limp, greasy, extra fatty gut bombs, went right through me, if you know what I mean. Im writing this to manage expectations. Emmita's is not destination dining, but from what I saw, popular with the local seniors, hospital workers & patients. From the other reviews i learned the owner is well liked & has loyal customers. Perhaps Emmita's is worth a second chance & updated review. That's my story. If you're nearby, in need of a sandwich... Support Local!

Yelp
I really like this place. I stopped by here for breakfast burrito and ended up also getting one of their homemade vanilla iced lattes. both of them were really good too! I got the Zeus burrito which was exactly what I was looking for - I was craving a breakfast burrito but didn't want to feel too heavy and that's exactly what I fot with this order. The Greek yogurt wasn't overpowering and the veggies were great. Tortilla was soft and yummy too. The ladies that were working there were so kind and sweet to talk to. There's good seating areas for if you want to eat in too.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito is amazing. There are hash browns in the OG that I am absolutely obsessed with. The menu says it comes with your choice of meat but I usually ask to sub bell pepper instead and they are accommodating. The bagel breakfast sandwiches are also delicious! I'm not sure why they are so good but the bagel is very light and soft and all the other components are made fresh to order. There is indoor seating. It is devastating to me that they are not open on the weekends!

Yelp
Lovely little restaurant located on the first floor of the Kaiser medical building at 1635 Divisidero. It gives me retro cafe vibes with soft music and gentle chatter. The food was provided in large quantity, fairly rapidly, and was incredibly tasty. Great bang for your buck if you're in the area. The only downside is the service. One of the ladies continues to be inpatient, non-responsive, and immense attitude when asking for little things such as extra sauce. Good spot, would certainly come again and update the rating as the service improves

Yelp
This place is great for UCSF patients. Had a doctors appt at Mount Zion location and had a break and wanted a light breakfast. The place is small, but packed, bright and clean. Small menu, but done right. My husband got a breakfast burrito and I did the lox style toast. I think each item was like $6-$8 which I'd a steal especially in SF. The bread was tasty, as another reviewer said and had the perfect amount of crust. Fresh lox and loved the toppings too. I also got a Chai tea, and a fresh orange juice. The orange juice was so delicious. Nice, ripe oranges so that the juice actually had a froth and creaminess to it that reminded me of orange Julius. We will return when I have another appt over here. Convenient. Affordable. Tasty.

Yelp
Okay, first of all, this little hole in the wall should have its own stand alone restaurant!! It's a hidden gem and all the reviews were spot on! I ordered their breakfast burrito with hash on the side and let me say, probably one of the best breakfast burritos I've had. Full of flavor, no skipping on the ingredients and to add avocado and jalapeno just made things even better! The service was phenomenal! They were fast and very quick with the food orders will go back !

Yelp
Service is kind of meh... the older lady at the ordering counter was nice but the one who prepares your food is absolutely rude as all heck. I asked her for some hot sauce and she rolled her eyes and said "which one do you like" and flew threw the options I couldn't understand her so I asked for the one with the green label and she said WHICH ONE and mumbled something in Spanish and I could tell she was just annoyed with my existence that's when the older lady came over to help but my God the younger one is so aggressive, doesn't smile and makes you wish you never walked into these doors. Sandwich was okay... as you can see in the pic it's mostly just bread. Not well proportioned. I ordered the plain black iced coffee so nothing special to note. Just a horrible way to start your morning coming here. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
After an exhausting morning, I came here looking forward to a cup of coffee. I got the spicy Mexican mocha and man...it definitely was spiced but I wouldn't say in a good way. I almost choked with my first sip. It definitely wasn't worth the $7 no matter how desperate I was. The staff were kind and the ambiance isn't too great. It is more of a place you go to when you need to grab something and it happens to be on the way.

Yelp
Very nice lady answered the phone when I called. Let me order ahead. The burrito was a little smaller than I thought but still enough food and the price was different from what I saw on the menu so I am posting an updated menu as of Feb 2024. The plantains were throwing me off a little as I am not used to having something sweet in my burrito but I assessed the risk going into the order and decided I wanted to live life on the edge. Am I disappointed with my taking a risk. Absolutely not. Would I take the risk again? Some things are not worth risking twice. Will I eat there again. Sure why the heck not. The place is simple and good. Check it out.

Jessica S.

Yelp
If I could give less than one star...I would, terrible service. Each time I have been here I've left feeling terrible. All staff are extremely rude, look like they never wanna be there/help you. I asked a question regarding one of the beverages my first time going..and was given back attitude and she rolled her eyes...to top that off the coffee was not great. I gave them another chance, thinking it was an off day and went in to ask about the different food options. While looking at the menu, one of the staff rudely asked, "can I help you?" while looking at me with a ton of attitude. I asked a question again, was met with attitude, and decided to just leave. I will never ever go back here again, atmosphere is terrible, service is beyond sad, and prices compared to quality is food is just not there at all.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich in SF! As an east coaster -- I miss a good bacon egg & cheese. This isn't your deli hard roll sandwich, but man is it delicious! It's the perfect size (fluffy but can fit in the palm of your hand) -- you feel satiated but not lethargic after eating it. I love the Breakfast Little Sandwich (with bacon) so much, I haven't ordered anything else. It's on a big fluffy roll... with a little sweetness to it? Divine. They make a delish iced almond milk latte and the staff is very friendly. They make fresh juices on demand (their counter display is full of fresh produce) - need to try that next. One note on finding it -- I enter through Divis and it's confusing... it's a storefront inside of the Kaiser building and down the hallway. I know there's another entrance but haven't tried it since Divis is closer to me. They opened early April and I'm delighted to see so many positive reviews!

Yelp
YES!!!! A 3rd outpost for this owner. I have loved his place in the mission and he recently took over a space right around the corner from Kaiser. You wouldn't really know it was new ownership/new offerings in this little deli storefront unless you were really paying attention...BUT PAY ATTENTION!!!! I had the breakfast sandwich - added avocado - which I think should be everyone's first meal here. It just sets the standard. A perfection of a bun (soft and chewy, yet hold up to the topping of egg, bacon and cheese, I added avocado) - what makes this particularly great is the secret sauce - which you only notice in some bites, but WOW. If it wouldn't make me 500 pounds - I would get this a few times a week. Sadly NOT open on the weekends. - and closes at 3pm on weekdays I am looking forward to trying the turkey panini with fig jam and brie cheese.

Yelp
This is the cutest little cafe. It is in a very hopping area. It was fast and our food was fresh. The burritos are so good we had to buy a couple more to take on our flight home. Highly Recommend!
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
The little breakfast sandwich is the definition of morning comfort food. Staff are friendly, even to homeless people walking in. Love to stop here on my way to appointments in the building.

Yelp
Emmita's Cafe is conveniently located on the 1st floor of the 1635 Kaiser building. I stopped in for a quick lunch and ordered a Reuben Pastrami sandwich. It was a good size with plenty of meat and toppings for a solid price of $10. Service was quick, tables were clean, and the sandwich hit the spot.

John F.

Yelp
The most delicious breakfast burrito I have had in a long time! I recommend the one with plantains. Also the lattes were delicious; I got the one with cinnamon

Will L.

Yelp
I literally stumbled across this place as I was waiting for Kaiser Urgent Care to open to diagnose my broken ankle. I walked by and said to myself "that's the kind of place that would have a great breakfast burrito." I'm here to report it has the best breakfast burrito in the US. Yep. I've been traveling for the last month across the West and having the local attempt but nothing came close to this. The guy at the counter could not have been nicer and more helpful. I'll be back there everyday until I leave SF.
google avatar

Claire G.

Yelp
I love Emmita's! I live around the corner and come once a week for breakfast. Their breakfast burritos are great and the staff is super nice. The coffee is decent but not the best in the area.

Thomas N.

Yelp
The burritos are bomb, and the coffee is strong! This place is a neighborhood gem and the staff are always friendly. The OG is my favorite burrito and the breakfast sandwich is also very good.
google avatar

Gordon R.

Yelp
Nice little place for hospital visits -- cafe at Kaiser main campus closed but this cafe had good fresh food and plenty of choices. Coffee was excellent and service was friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious coffee with lots of vanilla flavor. Very cute cafe with lots of light, seating and nice ladies working here.

Yelp
OMG! Breakfast Little opened a new location closer to me - Emmita's Cafe - at the corner of Divisadero and Post. I travel 45 min out of my way to their Mission location just to get a taste of their Tia Maria (plantain) burrito and Spicy Chai. Two A-M-A-Z-I-N-G items worthy of the commute! Now I don't have to, Emmita's has the same burritos, breakfast and drink menu as Breakfast Little, BUT this location also has sandwiches - large and overflowing with ingredients, freshness and quality superior as their reputation - 5 STARS! This morning, instead of my usual spicy chai, I decided to try their Vampiro Picante - a freshly juiced vegetable drink with ginger and picante. Insanely delicious and refreshing with a hint of spice. In substitution of caffeine, this is an incredible option for a pick me up, get you going drink. Customer service at both location is phenomenal. A family owned business of beautiful faces and spirits who make you feel welcomed and leaves you anticipating your return. Since my first bite of their Tia Maria and first sip of their spicy chai, I've been hooked and will continue to return for more. Join me, it's SO WORTH the trip! Enjoy!

Yelp
C'mon honey, GET INTO THE UNDENIABLE DELICIOUSNESS THAT IS EMMITA'S CAFE!!! Owned by an SF native who loves community and is involved through mentoring and philanthropy, Andrew is kind, compassionate, and family oriented (this location is named after his mom) so how could you not check them out?! Pro Tip: Order the OG Burrito or The Breakfast Little Sandwich and add black beans, honey, sriracha (and avocado if you feelin froggy) and be prepared for your mouth to be amazed! The flavors are ev-er-y-thannnng! You get the sweet, savory, salty, spicy, with the texture of the crunchiness from the hasbrown and creaminess of the aioli. Super fresh ingredients, super hot but the perfect temperature to eat! Best thing about the burrito is that it's just enough food to the point you're not stuffed or hungry, simply satisfied. Not gon lie though...I've had some of those days when I'm hungry af and had one, then ordered another 1 thing about restaurants after they've been around for years is the consistency and quality of their menu. I've been a supporter since their 1st location over in Bayview years ago and I've had the same order since - same high quality every single time. Bottom line - COME THRUUUU!!! #supportsmallbusinesses #supportminorityownedbusiness

Yelp
Today was the official Grand Opening. Yay! For breakfast I stopped in to do a YT video and snap some pictures for Yelp. I ordered the breakfast little sandwich with avocado and the Glow Up juice. Everything was delightful. That little breakfast sandwich has BIG flavor, super soft bread, moist & it hit the spot. I'm going to try the OG next. Super excited about this new addition to the neighborhood. Also, Andrew was super nice and helpful w/ menu items all while giving a warm, welcoming and genuine spirit. I'll be back to explore the menu because...#YaGottaEat2LiveDDB

Yelp
Formerly Cool Cravings now sits a new breakfast spot serving breakfast burritos to sandwiches and toasts, smoothies, grab n go salads, signature espresso drinks and cold beverages to wash it all down. Plantains may seem like an exotic vegetable but is one of the most popular ingredients in Central South America. The riper the plantain the sweeter they become. This Tia Maria burrito is simple yet flavorful and a riff on a Colombian sweet plantain and potato hash dish. Found it incredibly comforting and wonderful as it is light and sweet and pairs well with a green salad with a side glass of refreshing beer. Best in moderation. Accommodations welcomed. Friendly service.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Located on the corner of a medical building in a medical campus, very convenient for workers and patients to grab a bite to eat. Fairly priced for the quality and portion. Has everything ranging from pastries, breakfast, sandwiches, coffee/tea, fresh juice/smoothies, and to go bottled drinks/snacks. So far I've tried, Sir gobble grilled cheese: delicious! Lots of turkey slices, good amount of Brie, perfect balance with the sweet fig jam and sour pickled onions Breakfast burrito: very stuffed but in good proportion, I had it for breakfast and lunch
google avatar

Chaun L.

Yelp
THE EXPERIENCE: This is the third location that Andrew has managed (the other two being Piccolo Pete's and Breakfast Little, both 5 star cafes). This one is extra special because it's named in honor of his mom. While I love the food and coffee, what I respect the most is that Andrew and his staff prioritize their customers. Don't be surprised if he remembers your name when he checks in on your order or asks for feedback on the menu. He genuinely cares about connecting with you and making thoughtful improvements. THE FOOD: I had to fight the urge from ordering a breakfast burrito or a Breakfast Little sandwich so that I could try something unique to Emmita's menu. The cubanito did not disappoint. It was simple, but flavorful and filling. I'll definitely order it again before I go back to my go-to breakfast sandwiches. THE VERDICT: If you're in the neighborhood and need a bite, check out Emmita's Cafe!
google avatar

Geri S.

Yelp
The breakfast little sandwich is delicious; soft bun, moist tasty egg the way I like it with sausage pieces - and a healthy fresh carrot juice. This starts my day with the best friendly service... I'll be back to try everything on the menu with the Cubanito at the top of my list.
google avatar

Moon D.

Yelp
I came here on a weekday morning and found it charming and cozy. The breakfast sandwich was tasty, small but mighty. The biscuit was notable and the bacon had good texture. The coffee was hot :) Would like to return!
google avatar

Kristina B.

Yelp
When I used to live a few blocks away, I would stop in frequently for some delicious breakfast sandwiches and coffee. I'd always get the little breakfast sandwich with sausage (the pan de sal bread with aioli is super yummy) along with an iced mocha latte. The service is great and the ladies behind the counter are friendly.
google avatar

Gracie A.

Yelp
The food, the customer service and the atmosphere was great. I wish I could have taken a picture of my food. I also had a juice freshly made.

Emerald G.

Yelp
Adorable cafe on the corner my family of four walked in ordered got our food within 15 minutes of ordering. We got two little breakfast sandwiches, a breakfast burrito el Sancho, two coffees and a juice and soda for about $40. The woman taking our order was so sweet and polite but i cant say the same for the lady behind the counter serving up the food she seemed to have a bad attitude but thought she could be having a bad day but besides that the vibes were great and food was delicious as well as the coffee!
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Lives up to the reviews. I found this on yelp, read the reviews and found parking (that was the most challenging part). Andrew (super friendly) helped me decide what to try for my first order - I got The OG with avocado and siracha - omg so good. I inhaled it. The bread was soft but warm and not soggy. They do it in perfect proportions so you can eat it and enjoy every bite. I cannot wait to come back and try a bunch more items off the menu. I ate the sandwich before I could get a picture....oops!
google avatar

Malou I.

Yelp
This is a very pricey avocado toast! For $7.99+tax!!! Small avocado toast and no egg! I gave this place a few tries and every time they failed. Will never come back and will not recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute little cafe while leaving UCSF. Great service! The barista was very friendly and helpful in picking out a coffee. I didn't get a chance to eat but everything looked so tasty! Someplace to definitely come back to!
google avatar

Gary H.

Yelp
Cafe next to Kaiser and UCSF Med Centers. Good food, friendly staff, bright and inviting atmosphere , and surprisingly reasonable prices. Oh, and the *best* cup of coffee I've had in ages.

J V.

Yelp
Wow. Hidden gem! Ordered a simple avocado toast and it was pretty excellent. The bread was great and the salt and seed shake on top paired so well with the fresh avocado. 10/10 spot if you're in the area and need a quick healthy bite or juice. They make all of their juices fresh too btw.
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
Great breakfast sandwich. I got sausage plus avocado. Although it's called the little breakfast sandwich it is substantial and fills me up. They prepare everything after being ordered typically takes about 10-15 minutes. Order on the side away from the menu by the cash register.
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
I'm a breakfast sandwich freak, and Emmita's is my favorite! Great coffee drinks as well. Next time I'm going to check out the fruit shakes...

Mario P.

Yelp
If you're in San Francisco, you must start your day with their AMAZING Breakfast Burritos , French Toast and either Coffee or Fresh Squeezed Juices!! If you can't decide buy ALL THEM!! That's what I did and I Am VERY VERY HAPPY. My personal favorite is El Sancho Burrito. AND the Cubanito Sandwich

Julie N.

Yelp
The Mexican mocha is unbelievable. Best coffee in SF. The breakfast bagel is delicious with avocado. Everything is always fresh.
google avatar

Marianne V.

Yelp
Just stopped by today for another sandwich and coffee. The coffee here is *great*! And the staff are so sweet. Love this place!

Carla W.

Yelp
The best little breakfast sandwiches ever made with bacon or sausage and I only so delicious!

Andrea Z.

Yelp
That breakfast little sandwich was so bomb, I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place so much!!! Favorites are the Cuban sandwich, the breakfast burrito, the lox on a bagel :) 10/10 great service and people working

Yelp
Oh my gosh, this place EXCEEDED my expectations. We just came to the city to go to the hospital across the street and wanted something close by. This place is awesome. Their mean green juice had a very mild and sweet flavor, which a lot of places don't pull off well. Then the Tia Maria breakfast burrito? Ho-ly crap. An effing delight. I ate the whole huge thing even though I was beyond full halfway through. So good. I'm very glad we came here.
