7 Great Fish Tacos In NYC

"Eating deep-fried anything will usually make you feel two things: first, a sense of happiness, and then some minimal amount of time later, the desire to be horizontal. The fish tempura tacos at this West Village Mexican spot certainly accomplish the former, but the urge to apologize to your future self is noticeably absent. That’s because the brined, locally-caught fish is crusted in tempura made from nothing but water and corn masa, and it’s served over sweet jalapeno relish that manages to make you think you’re eating something healthy, or at least healthy enough to feel decent about getting a second order." - matt tervooren

Where To Eat Outside In The West Village - New York - The Infatuation

After playing some pool at another bar we wanted some food and one more drink for the road. We saw the inviting outside seating, was able to get a table fairly quickly and the service was amazing! Shoutout to the Bouncer on Sat nights, he was so great. We got chips and guac- which was brought out very quickly and the brussel sprout tacos, fish tacos and chicken quesadillas. The food was amazing, not a long wait to order and very attentive server! The highlight was def the margaritas- highly recommend the cucumber one. Such a great place for food, vibe, a chat and some drinks!

Google
Bold statement, but their fish tacos were the absolute best I have ever had. Perfectly crispy and fresh. Not overly battered or deep fried. Everyone was raving about them, and we had more orders than we could count! Don’t miss their margaritas either. WOW!

Google
I'm conflicted about this review, and I think the 4 stars is justified. I came here on a Saturday night- thankfully this place takes reservations. They have a room inn the front and in the back as well so there's plenty of seating. We were seated almost as soon as we arrived. They have lots of 2-4 person tables, lots of dates happening on a Saturday. We ordered almost the entire menu for our group of three. Our waitress was really good and prompt and gave good recommendations- I loved the Pear Margarita that she mentioned. However, they didn't seem to have some basic things - no butter for the tables and they took a while to bring salt- however they were busy so am overlooking that. We tried the Cashew salsa- excellent the sweet potato flautas- forgettable the lobster queso- very good and very cheesy the goat taco (daily special) - excellent the chocolate pudding - excellent the chicken tacos- mediocre the little meat balls- just ok the parsnips- excellent the beet tartare- not much flavour the honeynut squash- forgettable seems like you have to know your way around the menu to place an order that you and your table likes. Makes one think that its worth coming back and trying the rest to know what order to place. Bathrooms- a little on the smaller side but clean and good, and the layout of the restaurant is pretty spacious. We did have a large party in the room with us and they put a bunch of tables together for the 12 odd people who came in. Overall, I would say definitely worth checking out the restaurant and I hope my recommendations are useful!

Google
Great food and drinks with a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend the 7 salsas as an app and the spicy cucumber marg as drink. Even if you don’t like spicy cocktails, the spice is only in the rimmed salt so you can make it as spicy as you want. Pretty small menu mostly tacos but we enjoyed the fish and shrimp tacos. Tacos are decently sized.

Me and my friend had a good time at Empellon Taqueria. We tried the beans flautas, vegan chorizo, brussel sprouts and fish tempura tacos. We both had 2 virgin piña colada, the first one was soooo good the second round was meh. There are 2 dining rooms, one in the front and one in the back. Happy hours Monday-Friday 5-7pm The total came out to $130 before tips

Went on a Saturday night and it was packed. Server was funny, prompt and making helpful recommendations. Drinks were quick and well made. Food was amazing, fresh and good portion size. Would go back just for the shrimp (see picture) and Guac. Update Sep'21 Pictures

Google
2 of us shared, in order of liking from most to least, the special tacos (with wrapped bacon), shrimp tacos, and lamb tacos. The special tacos were uniquely interesting, shrimp tacos good, and for the lamb tacos I wasn't a fan of the salsa boracha. Overall, the food was all good, though it's pricey for tacos.

Google
I stumbled into this Mexican restaurant by complete accident & was lucky enough to find a table at the right time. The staff very friendly & attentive. The interior was available but the outdoor dinning was very inviting & also available. Service was great, drinks were delicious & food definitely outstanding! The carnitas were a little salty but delicious to say the least. I do have to admit, it was a little pricy but can't denied that it was money well spent. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The prices at this place are insane. I got guacamole and chips to start, and my jaw dropped when it arrived. The guac arrived in a flat to the table plate with a small lip, with one layer of guacamole on the plate. No description I could give could prepare you for how little guac there is. The serving dish wasn't even deep enough to dip a chip. It was a legitimate flat plate, one that you might get a Crudo on, and you could skim your chip over the surface. Next were the tacos. I got the shrimp tacos. The tortilla was 3x as big as the filling. There was barely anything in it. It tasted so dry, and the waitress was kind enough to bring me hot sauce. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because the waitress was wonderful. Friendly, attentive, and kind. Otherwise, there was little redeeming about this spot.

Yelp
So my niece and I went to this restaurant by accident we found it as we searching to eat somewhere different first night we arrived in NY last week. Well let me tell you AMAZING is not even the word I would use. Absolutely incredible is more like it. The chef is fantastic as much as his food is. The staff was so nice and catered to us like we were celebrities or something; but that's the way they treat everyone which I found so refreshing. The ambiance was just so great. We tried the Pastrami Taco, the fish taco and a few other items, well I'm still dreaming about those taco's and the cucumber drink I had with it. I want to leave Toronto again next week to go back to this place with my husband Highly recommend it to anyone who wants and incredible, amazing, delicious experience, As a business owner myself I have to say this experience was something we all as business owners / chefs should strive for. Thank you to the staff and the chef, especially for the free drink!. We Canadians appreciate you very much. You need to open up a place in Toronto please. Lina.

Yelp
Good! Pitcher of margaritas is $55 which I thought was a pretty good deal - it was about 6 cups. I definitely want to come back for happy hour specials!! We got the seven salsas and shared the veggie chorizo tacos. They were good, but I think I would get something else next time. Also the dessert we got was interesting. It seemed like a thicker mousse but i can't put my finger on it because it had an acquired taste. Anyway, I would come back!

Yelp
Service was great, the bar was cool, the food was mixed, few things real good , others just okay.

Yelp
Come for margaritas, stay for salsa flights. Loveeeeeed this spot! I came with two girlfriends on a Sunday late afternoon and had amazing drinks and tacos and guac and salsa and I am sure there was more amazingness but after 2 margaritas I can't remember. I had both the grapefruit (del amigo mezcal, pink grapefruit, giffard pamplemousse, citrus salt) margarita and the Por Que No (pueblo viejo blanco, pineapple, serrano, cilantro) and have to say the grapefruit stole the show for me. Both were delicious and big drinks so it made the $16 cocktail sting less. For food we all shared the guac and the 7 salsas. Guac is always a go to and a classic and you can never go wrong. There's was delicious and we all tried our best to pace ourselves. The 7 salsas was so great as well! They explained that they get spicer down the line so for those of us with a not so spicy preference (raises hand) we knew to stick to the other end of the flight. All were so tasty and I loved how we could try them all and add to the tacos that would soon be added to the mix. Speaking of tacos. I of course had to get the shrimp tacos because I've never seen shrimp tacos on a menu and not gotten them... No surprise, also delicious! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I came here on a weekday after work. There is no real food menu here; it is very small snacks for high prices, even by NYC standards. They literally serve chips in a to go container. The drinks are solid.

Yelp
This place is soooo good! Popped in on a whim and it did not disappoint. The bar and decor looks so cool. The staff was friendly. Drinks are on point. I tried a margarita. I got fish tacos and fries and it was delicious. I definitely want to come back to try more stuff.

Yelp
Lowkey spot with a great, wide selection menu We came for cinco de Mayo and beat the rush by sitting at 3:30 ish Staff was attentive, margaritas were yummy and taco size/flavor was nice Only complaint was that the chips/guac were too salty and the fish tempura taco was heavy in terms of breading

Yelp
Went in last week for happy hour tacos! Delicious, will definitely keep it on my list. Had the fish and special of the day chorizo and papas. Very delicious and good deal. Relaxed atmosphere amazing service.

Patrick P.

Yelp
spent $120 for a meal served with no waiter, paper plates and plastic forks. The bartender was also waiting table. We ordered an $18 salad served on a 4 inch paper plate that was at best a few leaves of salad. The guacamole was presented with a 1/2 of chips and tacos weee small and single. Conclusion was over priced very average food with small portion served with paper plates and plastic forks.

Yelp
Great spot for yummy happy hour with decent prices! The brussels taco was actually delicious. Also loved the spicy margs
google avatar

Yelp
THE LOBSTER TACOS OMG WOW. Very flavorful with decent portions of lobster. The pastrami tacos are another fan favorite on the menu, but the meat was a tad on the dry side. The quest fundido came with steak tartare -- we enjoyed the dish but I don't feel strongly about ordering it again. Vibe wise, it's a go-to for the post-work crowd. There's definitely chatter but not too noisy. Service was great!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is pretty dang good. Tacos are on point! It's a little more upscale than the average NYC Taqueria. Very pretty decor. Very nice service. Loved the cocktails as well.

Yelp
Cute spot but heads up it gets packed very easily. We stopped by for drinks and an app around 7pm on Saturday night. Bartenders couldn't be nicer- margs/drinks are good!! We also loved the guac, although expensive the quality and flavor were delicious! This would be a cute date night spot or for happy hour!! Cheers!!

Yelp
Upscale Tacos being served in a fun setting. Picture December 2019. NYC is bustling, you just finished Christmas shopping and you want a fun cocktail along with some tasty tacos. Empellón Taqueria is the place you're heading. Did I paint a nice picture? 2020 is more like trying to steal a moment of normalcy. My wife finished up her hair appointment and I wanted to bring her to place for lunch that she'd enjoy. We're seated inside (I made a reservation) and are given menus. The cocktail menu is off the chain! After looking at all the choices, I chose a nice Mezcal Margarita. The spicy, smoky mezcal adds a nice kick to any Margarita. Empellón Taqueria has a unique salsa tasting appetizer. You start from mild to wild! The cashew salsa is creamy and my personal favorite. Some of the samplers were bright, the hottest salsa was manageable. This is a fun table appetizer to share. The tacos, they come two to an order. We decided to get two different tacos, Lamb and funky Red Chile Duck tacos. The Duck Tacos were flavored with costeno, arbol, and guajillo chiles. It sounds spicy but it wasn't, the duck had a nice depth of flavor. Our waitress was great, she kept coming over and asking how everything is going and if we need anything. We had a great meal at Empellón Taqueria. I'm glad we were able to dine inside and enjoy their unique dishes.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this taco bar and so happy I did! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with friendly smiles and given the option to sit anywhere. The tables was decorated with minimal decor such as a lit candle votive which honestly is the most simplest and nicest touch! Less is definitely more!! The service was fast and the food ordered was amazing!!! I started with the seven salsas, which is massive sized homemade tortilla chips with seven different salsas ranging from mild to spicy! (FYI - the last salsa is a SPICY one but I loved it!) Next I had the skirt steak tacos. The meat was seasoned and cooked well. The salsa was fresh and the lettuce was not wilted which I appreciated! Two tacos was enough to satisfy my hunger! I washed all of this down with their Pear Margarita! Very refreshing and that hint of pear was the perfect touch! Who knew pears belonged in a margarita!?! Things to know: Mon-Fri opened from 5pm - 10pm, Sat & Sun at 1pm Dine-in, curbside pick up between 5p - 8p I will be returning here again to try something else! The music was great and the servers were attentive, making sure they kept our cups filled with ice cold water. She Who Eats gives Empellon Taqueria Three Forks Up!

Yelp
Ok. let's start with drinks. Seems like that is always where the waiters and waitress's want to start. We got a the pitcher of the regular margarita...Absolutely terrible and watered down. Could have drank the entire pitchers solo and drove home. I am responsible so i didn't do that. Next up appetizers/small bites. we got the crab empanadas. terrible. NO seasoning. None. Nada. Zero. Zip. Very bland and underwhelming. There goes $18 I will never get back and worst of all it's imitation crab meat. At that price point that's just unacceptable. We also go the seven salsa. this was honestly the best part of the meal. experimenting with the different flavors was fun. To the main course. Got the skirt steak taco. Two tacos for $20?!? really? why not three? the meet was a little salty but overall not bad Overall, I won't the in a hurry to come here for the food. I've had better tacos in NYC for cheaper. I have to say the waiter was excellent. Great customer service

Yelp
For the last year and a half Empellón has been a regular stop for my wife, daughter and myself. The tacos and salsa samplers are always delicious but the family friendly outdoor seating and (most of all) the service keep bringing us back. Our favorite waiter, Emek always makes us feel at home and our daughter is always so happy to see him. He makes her day and ours. This place has been a lifesaver for us as new parents and we look forward to spending another afternoon with those lovely tacos and margs knowing that we'll have a friendly face and great service waiting for us.
google avatar

Yelp
Been here so many times I can't believe I haven't written a review. I was probably living my life. Anyway, happy hour tacos are $6 and I love them. Nachos are 12 and I love them. Margaritas are $10 and I love them. Eat here.

Yelp
New vibes same great food, get the mushroom and pork tacos. Loved the margs & great outdoor seating- Kristin is a rockstar

Yelp
This place was nice and cozy. The service was great.. The drinks were strong but also refreshing if that makes sense. We also had the tacos (every flavor). They were definitely made fresh. I recommend.

Yelp
Highly recommend Empellón Taqueria if you are looking for some delicious, juicy and tasty tacos in NYC. Empellón is such a fancy yet affordable Mexican restaurant with a catchy menu. I visited on a week day for dinner. Considering I was alone, I seated myself at the bar. I sense Empellón is always busy. Such a cute bar that's filled with artsy decor. They have so many different types of taco selection among many other choices. I ended up ordering two chicken tacos. Best choice ever! The taco was soft just the way I like them. And the chicken was well seasoned, flavored, juicy and had a bit of spicy kick to it. I absolutely loved my meal and surprisingly I did not make a mess. My meal was excellent and had that authentic feel to it. I'd recommend having a glass of Rose with your meal. Overall the service was excellent. The bartender and manager were friendly and pleasant to be around. Definitely will visit again.

Yelp
Empellon Tacqueria is a very good upscale taco joint in Greenwich Village. Can't go wrong with any of the margaritas, cocktails, and tacos. Standouts are the brussel sprouts tacos and shrimp tacos. Brussel sprouts tacos are really unique, tasty, and crunchy. Shrimp tacos include large grilled shrimp and plenty of avocado. Try the seven salsas flight if it's available! It's a fun experience for your taste buds.
google avatar

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday here last night and let me tell you: THEY GAVE OUT BLANKETS! Ok I'll explain further.. The two of us sat outside during one of the most beautiful NYC days but it became very cold so they actually handed out branded blankets for us to wear and that was really nice of them. Ok now onto the food... THE FISH TACOS ARE SO AMAZING AND FRESH AND I WANT MORE PLEASE AND THANK YOU! The fish was perfectly fried with a thin yet crispy layer of batter. The coleslaw was really well-made and gave it that "cold crunch" factor. Their verde crema-like sauce was really good though I would've enjoyed a little more heat. I make hot sauce myself so now I can't live without the stuff. But if you aren't into the hotness, you'll still REALLY enjoy these fish tacos. We also shared the guacamole & chips. The guac was fresh and really flavorful. Perfect seasoning and not too intense. The chips were those big tortilla chips that you break apart to use and that was like really fun. Lastly, the margaritas were really solid. I think they could've been more flavorful but overall, it was a really great cocktail that complimented the meal perfectly. We could've absolutely eaten more of everything. There's something special about eating really good food outdoors on an NYC night. Amirite? Will absolutely be returning. Definitely check out their outdoor seating

Tarisai D.

Yelp
The wait time for a table was long. Once we were seated, the server was rude and condescending, rushed us and basically demanded we pay more money for his tip. The tacos were very fatty and not very flavorful. The ambiance was nice and the music was enjoyable. I give them 2 stars because the chips and guac was very tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
We really enjoy dining at Empellón (Midtown) and decided to check out this location. We absolutely loved our meal here! Regardless of which location you visit, definitely try the All Seven Salsas, especially if you like trying out an array of spicy salsas. We also ordered the Pork Tongue Tacos and Carnitas plate. Both were sooo good! The Carnitas plate was probably the highlight of our meal, as the meats were so tender and juicy. It's a larger plate meant for sharing. Great tortillas to accompany the fillings too! We were sad that this location didn't have the Avocado dessert found at the other location, but we definitely walked out feeling stuffed anyway (bonus: our total bill didn't even cost us much at all for the entire meal!)

Yelp
Empellon Taqueria is an OK place to enjoy small plate tacos and margaritas during its happy hour. I do have some major complaints about the place however. As I am a person who regularly goes by myself to restaurants after work I was able to immediately grab a seat around the bar area. What's nice about that is the bar seating has full service. What is not nice is that the "bar" seating is setup to be a bit awkward. You see the bar seats line around the bar as you expect... but they also wrap around a small section of wall then end around the front to be front window seats. So you have this little cove of seats that are not waited, not near the bar but your still suppose to give orders to the bartender. This forces you to awkwardly have to grab the bartenders attention if he/she is not looking towards this direction and at times it feels like they are so caught up on something else they don't look over. The wall part of this alcove is probably the worst seating in the entire restaurant and last time I was here I was smake dap in it. Foodwise, the portions of the tacos you get here are also very small for their price. This is true even with the happy hour menu. Perhaps the type of taco's they have here are a little more fancy then other Mexican places (such as chili duck) but I can almost complete a full bite of the $5 tacos. The portions are so small I can't appreciate them nor savior their taste even if they were great quality. Drink wise I think what I got here was good. The margaritas are tasty and though are a little pricey I think its worth it during happy hour. This is one of those places that put salt around the rim of the glass of your margarita which I really like. Simply put, I don't think this type of restaurant is my type of place. The place is fairly fancy and I assume I would of had a better time if I was seated with a waiter or at the front of the bar. Still though I didn't care for the taco prices here and I do know of other Mexican restaurants I would prefer more then this.

Yelp
Birthday dinner of the month ( July.2018) Annual report :) I have my birthday dinner here with my beloved girls last Friday. I felt they got used to deal with any party occasion and our server was so smart attentive hard working guy. We ordered following by his suggestion and all were almost perfect what I wanted to eat. Especially, Friday special oyster tacos was great what I've never tasted ! My friends ordered and surprised me with frozen dessert special plate that has 3 kinds of ice cream cake. ( of course candle on it ) . So various desserts And tacos were really innovative ! Some of my friends were pescatarian and pregnant woman, so we wish we could have some more cooked sea food selections as well. Although They have various veggie tacos and so far not bad I also like their slightly gothic modern with Latin vibes interiors, good vibes and ambience ++

Yelp
I popped in here once for cocktails and really liked the place. It had a nice, authentic Mexican vibe, with spectacular, colorful wall art and a great margarita menu...how can you go wrong? I only grabbed one drink when I was here though and I simply can not review a place without trying their food...so I was excited when my gf decided to have a birthday dinner here and I could actually review the entire experience. I started with their spicy cucumber margarita which was great, but 70% ice cubes, so I complained nicely to the waiter and he promised to make the next one more of martini than an iced packed margarita (and thankfully he fulfilled his promise). I will say, the margarita was excellent and half my friends ended up with the same drink. For food, we started with chips and guac and chips and salsa. The guac was very tasty and the salsa was good but definitely spicy. Then we ordered the scallop ceviche and the halibut ceviche. The halibut ceviche was okay...it came with pieces of mango and onions, but was a bit fishy. Not my fav. The scallop pieces came in two different sauces. Again, they were okay. Not my favorite ceviche dishes. Next, we ordered the shishito pepper queso. It was melted cheese on an iron skillet with lots of shishito peppers and a side of small flour (soft) tacos. You can't go wrong with melted cheese and peppers, yum! For our last and final course, we ordered a variety of tacos and sweet potato flautas. The tacos were small but tasty. I tried the duck tacos which came with fried pulled duck meat in a honey sauce. The sweet potato flautas came five to a plate - (5 thinly wrapped fried flautas in a lettuce wrap with cream). Overall service was very good. Our first waiter was really friendly and accommodating and then his shift ended, so we switched to another waiter, but he was friendly and helpful too. It's a cute spot for a group dinner. Good drinks, good food and good service, I was a fan!

Yelp
Picture it Halloween 2020, not a lot to do in Covid 2020 but gather with good friends and hopefully good food. Unfortunately didn't go as great as planned. Drinks were good, was that even salsa, Queso AMAZING, service not great at all. Mixed up our drink orders and they never made it back around to even take our food order by the time our first and only round and both appetizers were done. Decided to head elsewhere for dinner. Because the Queso was so amazing, I am willing to go back. Maybe on a regular night. Worth checking out but not a priority for me.

Yelp
I visited Empellon Taqueria a couple weeks back for an outdoor, November birthday dinner meal with a couple friends. It was a chilly night with a bit of wind but we were able to sit by a heater and were pretty warm throughout the meal. I didn't notice my food getting colder any quicker than it would under normal conditions. The happy hour deals are AMAZING and the staff was nice enough to point it out to us and point out when we could order just one of the happy hour tacos for a steal to try a little more variety. I think they are doing great work staying open during these hard times and serving creative, fresh, tasty takes on Mexican food. I completely disagree with the one star reviews that have been posted in the past couple months. I found the staff to be super welcoming, very kind and very attentive. I think the food is a creative take on tacos and other dishes and the flavors can not complained about. I can't wait until I can go back and patronize them again and get some more smoked cashew salsa, that stuff is AMAZING. Keep up the good work in these hard times, you made my birthday super special :)

Yelp
Came here with a friend for happy hour We got the queso fundito and guac to share and both were very good The shrimp tacos were some of the best I've had. Had a couple margaritas which were also nice but the tequila used was a little sharp. Overall would be a place I recommend and come back to

Yelp
So I have been trying to find a real authentic Mexican restaurant in the city. I walk past this place every day. Finally decided to give it a try. We go in, and even though it was dead inside we had to wait for the staff to look up and realize customers were waiting us! The outside is amazing so I was expecting to be wowed. Meh. The guacamole was mixed with crème fresh to stretch out the avocado. Think they buy the cheapest ones because they had no flavor. The chips don't even get me started. They took regular corn tortillas and did whatever they did not even try to make them look like chips just tortillas. Tiny portions. This is yet another tapas place. Small menu over priced horrible acoustics. We listened to the conversation three tables away because they were so loud. We paid left and ended up going to the taco truck by Grestiede's supermarket. Who leaves a restaurant hungry? Not sure how they are surviving. Minimal menu just can't figure it out.

Yelp
Empellon Taqueria is one of three creative Mexican restaurants by chef/owner Alex Stupak. Stupak is actually a pastry chef (Alinea and wd-50), so his approach is a bit unique. Always creative and always flavorful. The hallmark at all his restaurants are great tequila/mezcal-based cocktails, amazing quesos and unique tacos. The pastrami tacos alone are worth the trip to the West Village. The colorful atmosphere adds to the experience.

Yelp
Empellón Taqueria = fancy Mexican. It's a nice place to take a date if you want to impress him/her, and you're craving some Mexican food. My boyfriend claims that this place serves the best tacos that he has ever eaten in his life (even though he has been to LA and Mexico). We're both meat eaters but get this - his best taco is the BRUSSEL SPROUTS taco. So naturally when he brought me here to eat that, I was pretty skeptical. We came in a little before 8 pm on a Wednesday and the place was poppin'. The wait for a table would have been 45 minutes. But since we didn't mind if we didn't sit down at a table, we just ordered drinks and tacos by the bar. First thing's first. The drinks. He says cocktails are pretty good. But I ended up getting the michelada since I love beer and bloody marys, so it's kind of an in between. The tomato juice had this smoky taste to it that I didn't really care for but overall, it was a good michelada. We also decided to do some tequilia, and the bartender was super knowledgeable, and didn't, try to G us. We told him that we wanted a smooth, sippable tequila, but didn't want to break the bank. So he recommended a smooth one (at $12 a shot, which came with a shot of that smoky tomato-y mix) which wasn't too bad. Mind you, I never drink tequila, especially not after my college days. But this one wasn't TOO terrible. On to the tacos - it's $16+ for two tacos, so I don't really think it was that worth it. I guess I just have this idea in my head that really good tacos can also be really inexpensive. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it was probably more of a splurge for me. While I wouldn't crown this place as the best taco ever, as my boyfriend has, it is still pretty good. But if I'm craving some tacos, Empellón wouldn't be at the top of my list.

Yelp
Came here last night with some coworkers. Hostess was a little rude about us wanting to switch tables (she had a 'very specific floor plan!') but ultimately accommodated after 10 minutes. We started with a round of margaritas and I got the cucumber one - was expecting more spice than just the rim but it was still really good. We ordered a bunch of plates and I tried the following : - scallop ceviche - delicious!! Super fresh and there were two different types of mixes -chorizo queso fundido - OMG this was so delicious! Meat was well seasoned and the cheese was great -plátano sopas - tasty but definitely dry. Wish they had some sort of sauce to put on top -fish tacos - plain but very good Overall a much better meal than expected. Service was great and attentive, and our waiter was joking with our table the whole night. Pretty solid spot in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Their margaritas and sub par service were their saving grace. The food on the other hand.. I was pretty anxious to try the reputable food of Alex Stupak's Tacos. Unfortunately their midtown location shutdown and so we tried the taqueria on cinco de Mayo hoping for some good Mexican food. Let's just say I really regret not reading the reviews before going. If you're going to charge 14-20 for tacos, it sure as hell better pull through. It obviously didn't and every Taco we tried fell short of "decent". Worst of them all was the "special" which I forgot what was in it (I think brisket) but it was ground beef in a hard shell with lettuce and tomato. Tasted exactly like my Taco Bell down the street. The chips given to us with the guacamole that was $17 were as stale as cardboard. Even a corporate chain like Chevys has better chips... I'm not going to argue what's authentic or not but at this price point, your reputation, and name "taqueria"; you should be serving some of the most flavorful tacos in all of NYC. All in all if you're on the search for a couple margaritas and bites to accompany, this may be the place for you, but avoid at all costs if you're going for a gastronomic adventure. Margaritas tried were: Mezcal, Spicy Cucumber, and Por Que No? - All were good. One food item we did not take a picture of was the popcorn chicken... yea...

Yelp
Wow! I couldn't believe how terrible the food was here! This place has an ideal location, really beautiful bar, and awesome drinks! Definitely wish the food was better, but maybe it was an off night?

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night with my partner during happy hour. We tried each of the tacos with the exception of the brussel sprouts taco. Each taco had a unique flavor, were hot, and so tasty. During happy hour each taco listed on the menu is $5. My personal favorite was the duck taco. This place can get crowded and cramped really fast, so I wouldn't suggest this place for large groups. I tried the pear and the porque no margarita, which were $9 each during happy hour. They were both tasty. If you do not like tequila or alcohol made from agave plants then I would not suggest having a drink here. Overall, I would definitely coming back here when in the area.

Yelp
Wonderful and friendly staff! They sat us at a table for four, as we got there at 9 PM (before the 10 PM curfew), and took our orders so quickly and efficiently. This was the only place in the area that would seat us at 9, and it worked out so well. I got the fish tempura tacos and a spicy cucumber marg. Both great. Would get again.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place last year just to enjoy drinks and haven't been back. Decided to try it again with a friend since one of our favorite places not too far was closed. I remember our first time trying damn near every margarita on the menu, lol. Took things a bit easy this time. One of my favorite cuisines is Mexican so any chance I get, I attempt to try it. The margaritas here are refreshing! If you're looking for an extreme buzz, this isn't the place lol. I prefer refreshing occasionally. Of course I had to grab my fave, cucumber jalapeño. It was tasty but not the best I ever had. The pear was very good. 10/10 recommend. Now to be honest I had low expectations for the food so we went with tacos. To our surprise...they were delicious. First time having fish tempura tacos and boyyyyy were they tasty. The Brussels sprouts one *inserts drool face* lol. Btw, we went for happy hour so the margaritas were $9 and the tacos were $5 each. $5 for a taco to me still isn't happy hour price but they were good. We sat at the bar service was very bar friendly no complaints there.

Yelp
Definitely order the guacamole. It was fresh and they put pickled jalapeños in it for a unique flavor. The 7 salsa appetizer is also fun to share with the table. I ordered the skirt steak tacos and the steak was very fresh. Great quality meat. Prices were fair. I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
I've been here a couple times...I'm a huge Alex Stupak fan so I have much higher standards for his places than I might for another joint. This visit was underwhelming...but only because of the expectation that comes with Stupak's food. Always a great and fun menu...always good service but I was not as knocked out as I've been before. Everything was good...and the black trumpet mushroom fundido and the popcorn chicken were especially delicious. But the excitement of the ramp quesadilla was dampened by it lacking ramp flavor and the tortilla not being crispy. This of course led to some snobbery in our group about the actual tortilla...which again is better than most, but lacking a bit for Stupak. The Hamachi Tartare was also a let down...a bit fishy for such a quality fish, but it's really nitpicking. Any other place, I would have been happy. Here, I expected more...but I'll be back. His salsa flights are out of this world.

Yelp
Was really expecting more from this spot based on all the reviews. All the salsas were flavorful but missed that addictive quality that a good taqueria has. I get that this is an upscale place, but everything was really MID, just seems like hype. I am totally okay with paying 26$ for two small steak tacos, but they better make my eyes roll. The steak tacos had 2$ worth of meat on it that wasn't very flavorful on its own. The tempura fish tacos def felt like it was beer battered. Overall, it was decent, but not worth it IMO. There are better upscale Mexican spots in the city (Toloache)

Yelp
Lovely upscale taco restaurant. They have excellent apps and tacos as entrees or to share. The menu is always changing and lots of tacos have seasonal ingredients. Margaritas are to die for! And the ambiance cannot be beat, great for 1 on 1 meals or big group.

Yelp
This restaurant was great for brunch! Really good steak, duck, and lamb tacos. My boyfriend and I chose the unlimited drinks options and had a blast! The server was amazing and when we were cold they ensured the heaters were working and gave us an additional heater as well.

Yelp
Really great service and everything was delicious. A little pricey but worth it! Tacos were great, guacamole tasted super fresh and our margaritas were bit too sweet or spicy, perfect addition to the meal.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while we wandered through the neighborhood looking for a place that had space for 10 people on a Saturday morning. I was happy that this place had just enough room for us! We sat down and ordered our brunch order, and soon after chips and delicious guac/sauces showed up. Service took a while after that, but we were happy to sit over drinks and snacks. The brunch menu items were all very good. The scrambled egg queso fundido was a stodgy cheese mess and the perfect amount to fit into 6 flour torillas. I was stuffed after. Pleasantly stuffed.

Yelp
Checked this place out for restaurant week and wasn't disappointed at all! loved the vegetarian options on the menu. Special mention of the yummy Brussel sprouts tacos! Loved my drink too - super twist of the spicy flavors! Extremely great service!
