"Visitors to Charlotte’s Optimist Hall will have a new food selection starting Sunday, May 22, with the opening of Enat Ethiopian. This addition will be the 27th tenant for the Optimist Park food hall. The original Enat Ethiopian opened in 2017 at the Plaza in Shannon Park and will continue to operate there as well as the new stall in Optimist Hall. Owner Tina Tedla says she is excited to open a second location as a tribute to her mother — the word “enat” means “mother” in Amharic, one of the languages spoken in Ethiopia. Menu offerings will include traditional East African dishes like crispy sambusa, tibs, miser (lentil stew), tikel gomen (cabbage and carrots), shiro (chickpea stew), and ater (split pea stew) — all served with spongy injera. Enat Ethiopian is located between Boxcar Betty’s and Ava Pizzeria in Optimist Hall. The stall opens from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday through Saturday." - Erin Perkins

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food, and I was a bit nervous, but I'm glad I did. We ordered the 3 meat and 3 sides platter. It was so much food but it was so good! Our friends had never tried it before, and they loved it. The collards and cabbage were amazing, but the chicken and lamb was delicious. The spongy bread was also delicious, so you should definitely try this place when you visit Optimist Hall! 🍽️ #FirstTimeTaste #EthiopianFood #OptimistHall #SpongyBread

This was my first Ethiopian food experience and I was happy with the quality of the food but unsure how to properly enjoy all the flavors on my plate. Overall the flavor was unique and enjoyable but I wasn’t a fan of toughness of the Goden Derek Tibs (short rib). I was expecting the meat to have a hard exterior with a melt in your mouth interior. The rest of the plate had a ton of flavor and I really enjoyed the cabbage and red lentil sides. I was unprepared for the sponge bread and didn’t eat too much but it wasn’t bad either. The serving size is large and could easily be shared.

We got the classic lamb tibs with injera lentil stew and greens. Everything was delicious and it was our favorite from the spread we got from the other food hall spots.

My 1st time having Ethiopian food and it was a great experience. I ended up getting the combo with comes with 3 meats and 3 sides. I tried the lamb, chicken, and beef with red lentils, yellow lentils, and collards. My favorite was the lamb by far! It was cooked amazingly. Such a unique flavor to everything. Savory, earthy with some spice and citrus notes. My God, such amazing food! The injera was really good as well.

I’ve never had Ethiopian food and was happy to see a place here at optimist hall where I could see some others meals ordering ahead of me to see what it was all about. The portions are pretty big in my opinion and can share for two people which is great! I can’t quite remember what we got here, but nothing is better than getting to eat with your hands when it comes to eating these type of dishes. Overall, really nice flavors and spices and would eat here again!
