"Encanto Cantina brings jungle energy to downtown Tulum, so much so that you might actually forget you left the beach. Grab a table in the backyard garden for lunch or dinner and go to town on some ceviche before moving on to the cochinita pibil tacos, the butter-grilled vegetable burger, or any one of the seafood, surf and turf, or vegetarian big plates. "Grab a seat in the enchanting backyard garden of this downtown bar for a serious dive into the universe of Mexican spirits: mezcal, raicilla, sotol made from dasylirion wheeleri, and pox, a Mayan corn distillate from Chiapas. The menu has plenty of tacos, ceviches, and botanas to nosh on, while you sip refreshing agave cocktails, like one that combines pox and licor de damiana (or a bright, tangy gin tonic, if you prefer). Be sure to try a flight of mezcal or, better yet, multiple Mexican spirits." - Bill Esparza

Found this little outdoor gem and am so thrilled! The margaritas are delicious-strong/not too sweet! Plenty of gluten and dairy free options. The staff are kind and attentive. The outdoor garden is magical and the outdoor indoor bar looks really quaint and inviting! I would definitely come back!

Google
This was the first restaurant we tried in tulum. We went on a Saturday night and the margaritas were 2 for 1. Our server was Nicolas and he was very welcoming and helpful. My husband had the short rib tacos, which were a bit boring but still good. I however, enjoyed the octopus tacos, it was bursting with flavor and so delicious. We also enjoyed guacamole, the chips were wonderful and guac was fresh, I also really liked the serving dish they came on.

Google
My favorite restaurant in Tulum because of the ambiance. Servers do assume you're not a big ticket if you're solo. So they tend to bigger tables with more enthusiasm. My steak was undercooked this time, but that's never happened before. Overall, it's always a treat.

Abdullah

Google
It was overall a decent experience. Food was good, but nothing to write home about. The service was really slow, but the highlight of the experience for me was the friendly owner’s cat that kept us company while we waited.

Svetlana

Google
Wonderful place . The waiter was very attentive, the food was prepared quickly and the tacos and guacamole were very tasty. The atmosphere is pleasant. I want to come to this establishment again.

Beautiful place on the Main Street. Very lush. Delicious tacos. Super friendly staff. For sure a place to recommend in Tulum

Google
Reservations is needed very popular dining place. Parking is a nightmare but you can find some few blocks away. Setting is gorgeous! Built, giving you a tree house vibe. Outdoor ambiance is stunning and romantic. Service is great. Constantly being checked on during dinner. They cater for nut allergies and are kid friendly. We had the octopus with coconut rice and side of their special habanero sauce. Coconut rice was more sticky rice. We also ordered fried rice and fish ceviche. Fish ceviche was very tangy for my liking. It was not tasty due to so much lime. Fried rice however hit the spot. Came with chipotle sauce which paired well. Good vibe here and perfect for large crowds.

Google
The vibes were on point, and the food as well, but the service was even more on point! If you're in Tulum, come to this place, and you get to feel those Tulum vibes we all love.

Yelp
Another hidden gem. This place has a cute secret garden in the back, and a robust menu of mexican eats and drinks. A nice not so touristy spot on the main road that has hidden grotto vibes and less touristy than alot of others. Good mezcal as well.

Bowie T.

Yelp
Beautiful spot with romantic ambiance. Came for dinner for date night. Made reservations for two online, super easy with text and email reminders. Pros: - service was excellent - turned on the fan for us and brought an extra one as well - provided bug spray upon seating - food was solid. We ordered the Caesar salad to share, pork belly tacos and a veg tacos. Notes: - The wine pour was very small for the $200MX price. Although the wine itself was very nicely balanced and tasted great with the chilled glass. Just be prepared to spend more than usual for drinks.

Yelp
Food was great, cute little spot I found on accident while shopping for lightbulbs across the street! Fresh watermelon juice was amazing!

Rosanna N.

Yelp
Cochinita pibil tacos and passion fruit juice very good. Pork belly tacos and michaelada not good. Pork belly not very flavorful and michaelada was way too spicy

Yelp
Must try: Seafood Big Plate! Why: The Seafood Big Plate had Al Pastor Shrimp, Zarandeado Octupus, and Fish. Loved the Octupus because it was marinated in adobo sauce over coconut risotto! Incredible flavors and it tasted like buttery coconuty goodness. Also loved the Shrimp with pineapple, caramelized onion, and mashed sweet potatoes. Also, the rustic potatoes were fantastic. Notes: We came on a Saturday night for dinner and enjoyed live music. The decor and backyard jungle set up was really cool. Service starting from host to server was great - friendly, helpful, and attentive. Bathroom was neat too, the waterfall faucet sink was creative! (Knob is kind of hidden under the faucet). We loved our dining experience!

Yelp
Got seated for party of 4 without a reservation Saturday night , we were lucky with no wait. Grabbed a light bite with mixed ceviche and chips, the fish was really fresh and was delicious. I like how they gave us insect spray for the mosquitos as seating is outside. Vibes are romantic and also good for big groups.

Dhruti T.

Yelp
Incredible vegetarian food, great vibes, great service. This was my favorite meal in Tulum. My friends and I shared the vegetarian platter and the guac and chips. Everything was seasoned so well and the flavors all complimented each other. I would 100% be back the next time I'm in the area.

Sharilyn T.

Yelp
El lugar es súper hermoso!!! Definitivamente tiene las vibras de tulum. El ambiente muy romántico con música de fondo. La comida no fue increíble, pero estuvo buena y los precios para ser tulum que todo es caro, no esta nada mal.

Valerie W.

Yelp
Ambiance and service great. Some days food is really good, other days just average. Good location.

Liz T.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance, the giant red love heart decor was so romantic and sensual, definitely a spot for date night. Food was great , especially the skirt stake tacos , the beef was so tender and seasoning was great, we ordered 2 portions of that. The crispy octopus was also delicious Definitely a must.

Yelp
Tulum, Mexico is a cool touristy town. We were walking along the streets and browsing the shops. A few of our friends got really hungry so we decided to give Encanto Cantina a try. Stepped into the establishment and the staff told us to sit anywhere. Lots of tables to choose from because we visited mid afternoon. We grabbed a table at their outdoor garden area. Verycool ambiance. Wifey and I were not very hungry so we shared a couple of drinks and snacks. We tried the following: Mango juice Watermelon juice Chips and Guacamole Fish Tacos Octopus Tacos The juices were refreshing. Tasted quite good on the hot and humid day. Chips and guacamole were fresh and yummy. Fish Tacos were tasty. Octopus Tacos were very good. Prices were on the high side. Service was a bit slow. Other than that, I got no complaints.

Vicky T.

Yelp
Really good octopus Seafood platter for 3 is the perfect amount Def worth it Great vibes

Yelp
Recientemente fui a este lugar, me dejo una muy mala experiencia. Nunca se acercaron a tomarme la orden a mi mesa.. Después de más de 25 minutos me pare y me fui. Parece que solo estaban enfocados en la gente extranjera...

Lucas W.

Yelp
The setting is very nice and the service was great. It started raining and the power went out and they didn't skip a beat and had candles lit on the table and all the food still came out. Great experience!! The only downside is the menu is limited for dinner and is mostly seafood. Had 2 in our party that won't eat seafood so limited menu except for seafood and one steak option. A chicken option would have been nice.

Marjan M.

Yelp
We dined here on a saturday night around 11 pm. The server informed us that the kitchen is closing in a few minutes so we quickly ordered. Food 5/5 Mixed ceviche & steak were both delicious! The steak was perfectly made and came with fries & guacamole! The ceviche was flavorful and sour - just how I like it! Drinks 4/5 Passion fruit mocktail was delicious and had all the right flavors (sweet & sour). Mango mocktail tasted like frozen mangoes that are not ripe but it was good. Ambiance 5/5 This place is very pretty and has a really nice vibe which we enjoyed. Service 4/5 Although our server was nice, we felt rushed. The food came out after 10 minutes of ordering. We had about 2-3 minutes to choose our food and about an hour to eat it. Then we were rushed to pay and they constantly came by to clean our table. Price 4/5 The prices were VERY high for this place! We paid over $1000 pesos which is about $60 USD. Overall I'd probably return at a time where I can sit longer and enjoy my food in peace because the food itself was great!

Yelp
So over-rated!!! Awful Place !!! So many places in Tulum Centro and this place looked like it was worth a shot. I was soo wrong!!! Beautiful decorated this place with awful staff , I can't even believe how this place has so many good reviews. First when we were entering this place nobody spoke to us to show us a table. We saw a empty table and I told my husband let's sit down there. When we were walking to a table a server saw us and told us to sit in any available table. We scanned the Menu and we were waiting for 15 minutes for a server. FINALLY! One server came and ask what we wanted. I said to myself let me order fast because this people think that because we were speaking Spanish we weren't so important like people that only were speaking English. We waited 20 minutes for 2 drinks that tasted more like juice than alcoholic drinks ! If you are in a juice diet this place has your drinks. Anyway , we where finish with our drinks and no one! Let me repeat this NO SERVER came to out table to ask of we were ready to order food! OMG!!! What a waste of time !!!! This place is the worst. There is more !!! I was seeing the sever several times just walking near our table but everytime he was ignoring us! Finally after 30 minutes I catched his attention ask for the bill and this is my favorite part!!! I had to ask 3 times !!!! Yeap 3 times for the bill!! Another 20 minutes wasted waiting in this hell whole place !! Do yourself a favor an avoid this place !!! Not worth your time and money !!!

Randy L.

Yelp
We went for lunch and ordered the Seafood Platter with the Lobster. The ambience inside is so different compared to what you'd see outside on the street as you enter the restaurant. The portions of every entree is gigantic, so you are definitely getting your money's worth. The server was friendly and there was practically no line. The order did take a while but probably because the platter itself was huge and required many different ingredients. The total cost (Lobster Platter and tip included) was around $125 USD, which is pretty pricey. BUT the platter could serve around 4-6 people and lobster anywhere in the world is expensive. Overall, the service, aesthetics, and food quality was definitely worth the price.

Susana S.

Yelp
Always great experience with this place! The cocktails are absolutely the best!!! I need to come here for food Highly recommend! The service is also super sweet!

Cassidy C.

Yelp
The worst food and service I experienced in Tulum. Beautiful ambience, I hope this place can change.

Sam S.

Yelp
Great ambience, average food. Good mixology. I got overcharged on my bill and realized it after I got back to the hotel. Not cool at all!!! They charged me for an extra drink which I did not have.

Monica M.

Yelp
The place is beautiful and the tacos we ordered were delicious! For Tulum prices, I think this wasn't too expensive. I would definitely come back when visiting Tulum again.

Cyril M.

Yelp
Food is ok, the place is gorgeous and has a very nice atmosphere. The problem here is the service. It is horrible, we were waiting for a long time for our drinks, and then a long time for everything else. Don't wast your money here

Karly C.

Yelp
If you're in Tulum I highly recommend you make it a point to have lunch or dinner here. We went to town to get lunch and stumbled across Encanto as we parked randomly and walked by. We almost didn't head inside but the very nice server encouraged us to try them out and I'm SO glad we did! From the outside you would never realize how stunning and beautiful the restaurant is. It's in the middle of a typical street full of souvenir shops and businesses. As soon as we walked inside to the garden it was like we had been transported to a beautiful Eden full of greenery, cozy seating and hanging lights. The menu is huge! My husband and I had the sizzling chicken rice bowl, fried fish tacos, chicken tacos (They made these off menu for us) and a steak taco. The rice bowl was our favorite - crispy, hot, full of diced veggies and accompanied by a tangy orange sauce with a hint of spicy kick. Just enough. We poured the orange sauce on our tacos because it's one of those that complements any and all food! The fried fish was light and crispy and all the tacos came packed with meat, onions and cilantro. The cocktails were prepared beautifully, flavorfully and creatively. If we were in Mexico longer we would certainly return for another meal.

Dave K.

Yelp
Coming here is the first time tourist, I was tired of Resort food, in this place was quite good. It is cozy but not cramped and has a cool atmosphere. You're surrounded by twisting trees and vines and plants, and they're real, so it feels totally removed from the city street. At night with the candles it's a really pleasant mood, and I'm surprised it isn't crowded. Only had one thing from the menu which was simple but good, as were the cocktails. Small gripe, was in the mood for a couple of tacos, the varieties sounded great, but they're lunch time only if you want to buy individually, otherwise you have to order a platter for 3-4 people. Anyway great service and they spoke ok English.

Maley L.

Yelp
Horrible service. First off, this place has no hostess, you are simply expected to walk in and look to see if a table is available? Talk about a mess. Once you find a table you will be ignored by multiple waiters after multiple requests to be waited on. I waited 20 minutes too long to simply walk out of this facility. There are many other restaurants in Tulum that would appreciate your money, don't waste your time on a facility with horrible horrible customer service.

Dalton W.

Yelp
Such a beautiful restaurant. The setup is great and the service by Christian was excellent as well. I definitely recommend coming here for the great vibes

Shenickqua C.

Yelp
Excellent service, Excellent Price, Excellent atmosphere. We had good time here. We will definitely return.

Bryant H.

Yelp
Wow, seafood plate!!! Mango spicy margarita. Fish ceviche, so fresh, so amazing!! Great service, amazing ambiance .. you what, second thought ..do don't come here, my secret place.. lol

Rachel P.

Yelp
The ambiance was amazing however the service ruined it. Our waiter was strung out on drugs, acting very erratic and strange. He would get right up to your face to talk, not aggressive but more flirty, but would get inches from your face and then forget the whole conversation and never bring you your items. The bus boy (waitstaff) was having to do double the work. While we were there, one other party showed up and two ladies. Not busy at all. We asked for our drinks twice (we didn't dare order food at the rate things were going). When it was time to go we asked for our ticket three times from our waiter and eventually had to ask the bus boy. We ended up going to the front to pay and when we did that our waiter finally came up and assisted. The drinks weren't great. We order mezcalita's and I'm pretty sure there was no alcohol in them, all juice. Don't waste your time or money. We gave our tip to the bus boy, he deserved it. The other guy needs to go.

Teshia N.

Yelp
Ask for Elgiado --- maybe that's not not to spell his name but he's very good good food even better service!

Drew R.

Yelp
Omg, searching high and low of a place to eat we settled here. We saw the interior and was lied to. But before I go to the food, let's talk about how beautiful this interior is. This is very beautiful. Walking in it looks like a giant barrel. It leads to outside seating to a beautiful garden/jungle-esque feeling. There's a giant heart hanging down. Beautiful wooden tables and the floor was paved with tiny rocks. Perfect for pictures. The service was great too. We all got juice. I got pineapple juice. It was fresh and came in a pretty cup. It's pretty and tasty. It gave me false hope. Now to the food. We ordered a seafood soup. The soup came out and there was only shrimp in it. There was hardly any soup in there. After eating it, it still felt like we didn't eat anything. We did inform the waiter about it and he was like "I'll tell the cooks about their mistake". Nothing else. We also ordered popcorn shrimp. That was good, but not really a meal, more of an appetizer size, but we were told that it was a meal. We also got a vegetarian stuffed chili. It wasn't that great. Very disappointed with the food. The worse part, after getting tiny portions our bill was over a thousand pesos. It's definitely not worth it, especially being from chetumal, I know how much this food actually cost.

Michael B.

Yelp
A tourist trap. The menu is very limited and they have tacos only for lunch. Steak tacos for dinner is the only taco option. Super expensive mixed drinks. The food was fresh but bland. Much better choices around.

Jazmin V.

Yelp
UNDERRATED is exactly what this place is. You know when you travel and leave thinking about what you want to do when you come back or what you'll recommend when your coworkers/friends ask? I couldn't wait to tell ppl about this place, that were planning a trip to Tulum. A beautiful & tasty garden to dine in We stumbled upon this gem while shopping around downtown. And boy am I glad we went in. The front entrance does this place no justice. You walk further in & the ambiance sets into a divine garden with wood tables, dried flowers with plants draping at every turn. The place is just gorgeous and worth the trip and appetite. We all had and shared bites of; - Natural melted cheese w/chorizo ORDER IT *inserts Homer drooling face* - Lobster w/coconut risotto, plantain bathed in garlic butter w/spices and olive fried parsley leaves Soo good! The lobster was cooked to perfection. And coconut risotto had an amazing texture to it. - Al pastor shrimp w/grilled pineapple, caramelized onion and rosemary mashed sweet potatoes *Highly recommend* So rich in flavors and al pastor on shrimp was something we'd never had before. The commination of all three things was something like heaven. - Zarandeado style octopus, marinated in our chef adobo sauce, rustic potatoes and coconut risotto It was iiiiiight - Breaded mushrooms w/mole, served w/coconut risotto and mexican pepperleaf pesto Im always afraid to order Mole at restaurants but this one is def one you want to try. Mushrooms are lightly breaded and the mole flavor is on point. Not bitter & not too sweet. I LOVED it. I would give this place 5 stars but service was bad, in the sense that our waiter (place was empty) wasn't attentive, stale, never checked on us & we waited quite some time to get our check. When we walked in we weren't greeted by a hostess and walked in a little lost. Once it got dark we could hardly see our food & we didn't get any candles placed on our table when they put them out. We tried talking to our waiter. Asked how her day was, complimented her tattoos but she just wasn't budging. We felt she was sad, so we called it a bad day. We all have them. We even brought up how we can feel spirits around. Haha. She confirmed there was a mom, dad and daughter who roam around the place and the daughter plays/messes around a lot. My sister even recorded videos that caught multiple orbs at a time.

Leah K.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere and wonderful food. The margaritas are a must. Oh & get the lobster...just do it!

Elise W.

Yelp
I have such mixed feelings about this place! We were famished after driving from Cancun and this place looked cute! We stopped in and had a few tacos and margaritas. First, omg sticker shock! Tulum is pricey and I say that as someone who lives in NYC. Fish tacos were subpar, but the octopus looked amazing and the hibiscus was something different. Food wise I would definitely rate it two stars, but the service was truly great. Loved our waiter he had so many great things to share and insider tips!

Luis U.

Yelp
It is a place with a magical touch, totally natural and its dishes are exquisite, 100% lonrecoking .

Amy T.

Yelp
This is a Trojan horse of a restaurant. Looks gorgeous and charming from the outside but not much else good inside. I was here on holiday with family and noticed the beautiful decor as we walked by. We decided to return there for dinner and by the time we did, the inside of the restaurant was filled with a suffocating pungent smoke that we did not understand how diners were eating through it. We ventured out to the back area that was beautiful, but then we quickly realized that their suffocating smoke was meant to deter all the bugs and flies out there. There was a table full of gals who ordered their large sampler platter and the instant it was put down the flies swarmed and they couldn't swat them away fast enough, and eventually had to be moved inside. We quickly followed their idea and moved ourselves inside before our food was attacked by flies as well. Even inside there were giant flies buzzing and the lingering odor of whatever smoke they released to deter them. Now the food, we ordered the cochinita pibil taco and the octopus taco that sounded so delicious on the menu description. Reality was they were dry and bland. A far cry from the most amazing tacos we had during lunch. The salad was fine, but my dinner companion who usually gobbles up all salads left her portion unfinished. Overall I wish we hadn't wasted a meal at this spot and not sure why it's rated so high (def not a 4 star spot). Save yourself the disappointment and only take it in with your eyes passing by.

Mar B.

Yelp
Was hesitant to visit after reading a below review comparing this place to Olive Garden (what?!) but am happy to report it was amazing!! We were sat pretty quickly and had a very nice and attentive server! We ordered the two mezcal mixed drinks on the menu and both were super original and super delicious! Mine had avo walnut basil and cream, so fluffy and soft, with a pretty pistachio color and sever in a martini glass with garnishes! My bf got La Dama and he loved it. We had the portobello blue cheese burger and it was super flavorful and good! We are not veggies or vegans but are obsessed with mushrooms and blue cheese so this was a win. I got the fish of the day with a corn purée (my fave) and it had like a sweet banana purée. The serving was pretty big, fish was kinda fishy smelling but all the flavors were good and felt very heathy. I ordered the tuna appetizer but had a little too much onion for my taste, forgot to ask the onion level, but I am not upset. Obsessed with jungle-y patio dining and the back patio was so pretty and very well decorated. They had a live band for a little playing mixed covers English and Spanish. Super nice place, highly recommend. Very much a fancy dining experience vibe but we spend less than 50$- awesome.

Adam K.

Yelp
The food is delicious. The service was top notch. The ambiance was nice. The air felt a little stuffy on the patio. We asked to move near a fan and that made a world of a difference. The prices are a bit high but worth it.

Maleka H.

Yelp
This spot is everything you need for a prefect backyard breakfast. It a beautiful jungle oasis with green plants, great decor and the temperature is cool/ refreshing. The best Bacons I ordered a seconds, not too crispy not too mushy they were just prefect. Our serve was so friendly and even though we had a little language barrier all went well and our orders came out right. Great location right off Main Street with lots of other restaurants and craft vendors.

Katie K.

Yelp
Food was not very good but the prices are high even by American standards. Nice courtyard. Skip it

J S.

Yelp
Beautiful environment but found that the food was just ok. Drinks were yummy / fruity but not strong (not even sure there was alcohol in them). A bit overpriced compared to others in the area. Better tacos for less down the street. Worth it for the ambiance but other than that just ok- won't return.

Marnie G.

Yelp
This restaurant is right in the heart of town - decent food - good service and beautiful outdoor dining area. If you're anything like me - sometimes you need a break from tacos and crave a fresh salad. I highly recommend the orange shrimp salad for lunch and the green juice. Our friend ordered a fried rice and he loved it, you can get soya sauce on the side for added flavor. Tacos were so so ... street tacos or Chiapaneca is better. The mixed Ceviche also wasn't so great, there are other places where they specialize in ceviche..

Carol L.

Yelp
This restaurant was just fine. It's marketed as a nicer, fancier restaurant in the Tulum city area, with tapas that were good but not mind blowing. My favorite item we ordered was probably the queso fundido, but both tacos we got were slightly dry and lukewarm by the time it got to our table. However, it is a cute place to sit and enjoy the ambiance in the outdoor seating area with a small or large group. Live music some days too!

Lex B.

Yelp
I tried Encanto Cantina on a Saturday night a little before 8pm. The place was completely empty (kind of) I'll get to that in a second. I sat down right across from the bar which meant I also had a view of the street. I looked up the restaurants menu before I arrived so when I sat down, I knew what I wanted. I ordered the octopus an a mint, cucumber, with ginger Mezcal cocktail. Within 5 to 6 minutes of ordering my food was brought to me! Wow! It was the fastest delivery of food I've ever had at any restaurant. Cant complain. As I ate, I observed ALOT that went on. First, there was a pitbull running around. Yeah!? It even came an sat down at my feet. Thank goodness the owner called him away. Then, there is the loud rave music the DJ is spinning, a couple men walking through selling everything from Rose's to candy, an even cigarettes I think I saw! Then theres the manager that comes through with thick smoke to keep out the mosquitoes (because there is open seating in the back). It was a little crazy dining experience so I decided to finish my drink out front. They have a couple small couches an tables to relax an watch all the people walking by. My food was great an the drink was better. The octopus was paired with a sweet creamy rice mixture which I loved an small potatoes which were also great. Even if you decide not to come in to eat, just ordering a drink an relaxing outside is a experience! The managers cool too. We had a nice convo.

Laura H.

Yelp
Absolutely spectacular. Period. We went to this restaurant during our vacation to Tulum and I cannot stress enough that it's absolutely worth the splurge. I ordered the lobster entree and was not disappointed; the entire plate was a culinary delight - the sweet fried plantains complimented the richly seasoned lobster that lay over the creamiest coconut risotto; the entire dish was *chef kiss*. The prices of the food reflect the quality, my lobster and two drinks were about ~$70. The restaurant was clean, our server was attentive and profession and the ambiance was exotic and tropical; I highly recommend Encanto Cantina.

Sunny M.

Yelp
Downtown tulum. - came here for drinks/tequila shots only so can't comment on the food. - cute lil back area that's perfect for photo ops. - cocktails were good. - had good selections of tequila as well.

Angie K.

Yelp
The ambience was lovely with lots of plants. However, it took a long time to get sodas and when the food came - items that were supposed to be hot were not and the salad looked limp and unappealing. Additionally, the food was bland, overpriced and didn't come according to order. Plus, they added a 4% commission fee when using a credit card and they tried to tack on an official looking 15% tip. We're happy to tip but we like to decide when and how much to tip. In their defense, they did not charge us for two dishes we sent back. Overall, our group spent $70 on merely mediocre food at Encanto and are bummed about it.
