Quebecers Hate This ‘Unicorn Poutine’ From a Toronto Restaurant | Eater Montreal

"Opened in 2018, the Enchanted Poutinerie in Toronto has drawn attention for a so‑called “unicorn poutine” that layers multi‑coloured cheese curds (the menu claims the curds are from Quebec, though it seems likely they were dyed at the restaurant) and an unnaturally multi‑coloured gravy over fries; I think the result looks like ’90s Nickelodeon toy Gak melted and poured on potatoes. The dish appears to be a bid for viral attention — the official Canada Twitter account even posted an image of the “birthday cake diarrheapoutine” — and it provoked strong backlash. Oddly enough, the rest of the menu is mostly fine, with a classic poutine, a breakfast poutine and various fusion options (including a jerk chicken poutine), and the owners say they opened because they loved “making crazy poutine concoctions.” I view the unicorn version as a travesty and an example of cultural appropriation that does a disservice to Quebec’s poutine tradition." - Tim Forster

During a recent visit with a colleague, we were impressed by the cleanliness and upkeep of the establishment, noting ongoing improvements to the restaurant's infrastructure. The cuisine was satisfactory, although the poutine, while featuring freshly cut fries, was somewhat overpriced and lacked the desired crispiness. The owner's affability and the server's attentiveness were commendable, ensuring a positive dining experience. Despite the poutine's flavor profile, the quality of the cheese curds was exceptional.

I thought the classic poutine was pretty good. Reminds me of another poutine place I go to whenever I go snowboarding. Ordered online and it was made fresh and came out quickly! There's not much seating inside so it's mostly a grab and go kind of establishment. Service was not too bad but nothing memorable either. Might check out the other flavoured ones next time.

The location was clean with really fun decor. We went at an off hour so it wasn't crowded and we got our food quickly. We had originally wanted to try the unicorn poutine but ultimately decided to try to the original poutine first for comparison with other poutines we'd tried that week. The sauce was perfect and the cheese curds were perfectly melted but the fries still hot and crispy- the kids thought it was the best poutine of the trip.

After Crazy Monday, mood was low, pressure was mounting! My only solution Enchanted Poutinerie ✨️💖💛💕 Tracked them down to their new location! Was greated by the Legend [Mr C] Without a beat in was astonished by the Vibe, Music and the Poutine 🤤🥹🥰 Had The Colosseum - Man the flavour, the quality fries! Monday is in the past, My Vision is clear !! Thank you Enchanted Poutinerie ✨️ 😘

My experience at enchanted was amazing very friendly workers and extremely helpful. I got the chicken shawarma, mac and cheese, popcorn chicken. My shawarma was really good. My son loves the mac and cheese, my mother got the popcorn chicken and she said she didn't really like it, it was to dry it needed more gravy. So she said she would rate it 1.5/5

Went to the enchanted poutinerie and was greeted by the most enthusiastic, kind and hardworking employee named Seth. He brought such a happy atmosphere to the restaurant. The food was amazing. I got the jerk poutine and apple funnel cake and was not disappointed. We need more people like Seth in our world, you can see that he loves what he does, and loves his customers too. Just for his exceptional service we WILL be coming back. Thank you to the franchise owners and thank you again for the ultimate customer service and food quality. Five stars.

Ordered take out and poutine was not good. Mac and cheese was watery, soggy. This place use to be amazing when on Wilson now it’s just not it.

I don't know if I was just super hungry or if it was because of the wonderful hands of beautiful Dhisha who made the food, but that was one of the best poutines I've ever had. Dhisha was so kind, sweet and made sure to give me the top recommendations. I got the popcorn chicken poutine and it was so goood! Will definitely be back here again to try the mac and cheese poutine as well.
