Where to Eat on Vacation in Victoria, British Columbia | Eater Seattle

"A casual, bar-centric restaurant with an ever-changing, seasonally driven menu that leans into fermented, smoked and pickled elements across vegetable, pasta and seafood dishes; examples include a honey-mustard smoked salmon belly with pickled celery and red sauerkraut remoulade, and the cocktail program is equally inventive (one recent drink combined gin, umeshu and chartreuse with herbs and spruce tips to evoke a forest walk). Not for fussy diners, it’s frequently praised as one of the city’s most interesting and enjoyable restaurants." - Jay Friedman

End dive in Victoria is nothing but flavor and fun. The kind of place where the menu reads like a dare and the dishes deliver like poetry. We had smoked mushroom pasta that felt like the forest had secrets. Dry aged halibut that was so tender it practically winked at us. Smoked olives funk on the plate (in the best way). The cocktails were sharp, the vibe was loose, and the whole experience felt like being let in on something special. The menu changes often, and that’s part of the thrill. No spoilers here. If you know, you know. And if you don’t, well… you’re truly missing out!

I had an amazing experience at Endive! From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the thoughtful and intentional decor, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The drink menu was truly inspired, and every cocktail I tried had a delightful complexity while still being light and nostalgic. The gin and milk cocktail, in particular, was refreshingly unique and familiar at the same time. The food was equally impressive; I had the smoked salmon and charred focaccia, both of which were delicious and beautifully prepared. Overall, Endive is a gem in Victoria, with a menu that’s both genuine and innovative, and I can’t wait to go back!

Had a memorable meal at end dive during my trip to Victoria. The menu changes frequently as ingredients are locally sourced and varies with the season, but I believe the dishes are all at least pescatarian? I might be wrong. Cocktail was unique and refreshing, and the food was tasty. Mussels with milk bread dipped in sauce was amazing. And the morels did not disappoint. My only qualm was the tuna tartare. Where there was only a spoonful of tuna. Felt deceptive, but didnt detract from the experience overall.

I was in Victoria for work and several people had recommended I check out end dive. I’m glad I did! I arrived around 8:30 on a Friday night so was anticipating there might be a bit of a wait, but I was seated right away at a seat by the window bar area. I was greeted right away and, overall, I found the service to be out outstanding here. They brought me a separate menu that noted all of the allergens for the dishes so I was able to easily pick out something that would work for me (gluten free). The salt and vinegar cucumber dish was the highlight for me but all three dishes I tried really highlighted the fresh and local ingredients used in them. It looks like they have a rotating list of drinks specials. The one that I ordered was quite light and refreshing and paired well with my first two courses (oysters and the cucumbers). I tried a rosé from a local natural producer, which was also very good. I wouldn’t hesitate to dine again at end dive and have recommended it to several people already.

Twice I have been to End Dive and sat in the rays of the sun that gleam through wide windows, brightening the cozy bar and resplendent ceiling, and illuminating the truth: that dishes and drinks at End Dive are not just special, they are transient singularities that must be tasted to be believed. The chatter and laughter of friends and surrounding patrons vibrates the air and my table, sending reverberations through my drink and up my arm, colliding in my brain with the explosion of rainbow flavors from the Lebanese squash; the distinguished smoked cauliflower; and the inevitable and unparalleled pasta. I look at the surface of my drink, coated with squid ink Riesling, and smile at the dark, shimmering black. This is life, this is living - this is End Dive.

We had an amazing evening at end dive sat on the counter by the chefs. Creative cocktails, delicious food and a great wine selection. The service was also excellent, I can’t remember the server’s name but they really made the evening with a wonderful wine recommendation and their overall hospitality. Would strongly recommend!

came here on a sunday around 6 and was able to get a seat at the bar! really enjoyed the atmosphere and choice of music. right away our servers were very kind and personable! everything on the menu sounded amazing so it was really hard to make a choice!! we started with a pickled egg cuz i had never had one before.. enjoyed it! we got the smoked salmon belly and let me tell u.. it is absolutely amazing to experience the taste of smoked salmon with the soft texture of belly.... and the sauce on it was amazing as well. we the. got a noodle dosh, which i of course forgot the name of and forgot to tale a picture of because it was so good we had to eat it right away!! its sort of like a ramen, and the broth was addicting.. a liiitle spicy, and loved how they used dashi in it. the noodles were a great texture too. definitely get the noodle dish if u have the chance. i also forgot the exact details of our last dish, but it featured leeks and was just amazing. i also got the country sleaze cocktail which was really tasty and refreshing! overall an incredible experience, definitely check this place out when ur in victoria. it was absolutely incredible and i cant wait to go back!!

The hole in a wall you are looking for. The flavour that is unmatched with cocktails that are something different. This place is worth going or trekking to see and experience. It is a nice local fusion with flavours that fit the season and change with the mood.

Yelp
Really amazing food and natural wine options. Cozy and funky setting. I would argue they have some of the more thoughtful natural wine selections in Victoria even when compared to our wine bars.

Yelp
Rude staff. we were party of 8. ordered focaccias and one of the people in our party asked for extra butter. "our chief measures a specific quantity of butter for each order. If you need extra butter you need to order another focaccia". WTF!! it went downhill from there. Menu was hard to understand. Except couple of dishes, everything else was experimental cooking. Do not recommend! Over priced and waste of money! $600 later everyone left hungry and grumpy!

Yelp
This should a must-try when you're in downtown Victoria End dive's approach focusses on seafood as well as highlighting seasonal vegetables. Great options for some terrific cocktails and they have such a cool vibe. Love the decor. My favorite are the frogs. The quality of both the food and the service was exceptional. The host was super friendly and lovely. We dined there on Friday evening and, despite not having a reservation, the host managed to get some bar seats by the chef's kitchen for two right away, which was truly appreciated! I appreciate that End Dive takes a family-style dining approach, which is great in my opinion as you get to try many of their savoury dishes. It is perfect for sharing. First, we ordered the brioche and morels and they were amazing. In addition, the spot prawns were delicious! Their in-house focaccia bread with cultured butter was truly appetizing, especially if you have some left-over sauce from the spot prawns dish. The sourdough spaghetti pasta (not pictured) was exquisite. The depth and flavours of every single dish we had was phenomenal! love that the menu keeps on changing and they're so creative! I highly recommend dining at End Dive. You won't be disappointed but thankful that you're in for such a treat. This might be my new favourite Canadian upscale eatery in Victoria!

Yelp
just a heads up it's 21+ they said they weren't licensed to have kids in their restaurant which was a bummer bc we have a kid lol. So we didn't get to try but the space seemed like it could be cool - just wanted to share with others since it wasn't advertised as 21 and over

Yelp
We had a great dinner here and loved the innovative shared plates and cocktails. The mix of flavors and textures was on point. Service was excellent. The only downside was that the lighting was so low we couldn't visually enjoy the dishes, and the seats we had were under a speaker so a bit loud. But still had a terrific and enjoyable meal.

Yelp
Arrived first day in Victoria. Restaurant was busy upon arriving. Sat at the hottest worst part of the bar. As restaurant cleared out they wouldn't move us. Unreal. Had to beg for a glass of water. Ordered a gin martini. Asked if I wanted a single or a double. What? Its a martini. Was delivered one shot of gin in a shot glass with olive juice. What the hell. No olives with it. Ordered some.salmon delly. Disgusting. I knew it would be fatty but if you wanted to serve me salmon skin for $30 with shaved celery and some beet goo it should habe been listed like this on the menu. Server was clueless. Knew nothing about the menu. Wife clearly asked for.no heat on her muscles. Kitchen is open air. She had to catch him just before he added chili oil otherwise that would have been ruined. Was even told they normally dont customize menu items. All we needed was no chili oil added AFTEF it was made. Ordered foccacoa bread. One piece grilled with not enough butter to cover the bread. Server was nasty, cooks right in front of us didn't say one word and all total $130. I had to grab Wendy's after I was so hungry. This place is a wanna be pretentious joke. Never go. It is of zero value and the drinks were terrible. What a waste. I'll be calling for money back.

Yelp
Highly evolved experience. Came for a quick cocktail at the bar and became mesmerized by the food love we saw at the cook station. We happily sipped amazing cocktails and enjoyed every morsel of the grilled escarole heart, aged coho, and chanterelle pasta dishes. We will never forget the fresh ingredients, hearty portions, and flavors as well as the kind and attentive staff. Kudos to the inventive chef and mixologist.

Yelp
While the ambiance was cool and the service was good, the wine list was very limited and I was not allowed salt when I asked for it! Chef said no- which made me chuckle while eating under seasoned parsnips! We shared 5 dishes between 4 and that was enough. Favorite was the mussels.

Yelp
Was served NOT FRESH oysters which violates island health's food safety guidelines about oyster preparation and service. We couldn't finish our oysters and where still charged for the oysters. Even after sending them back and letting them know it could be a health hazard to their costumers. Proves they don't care about their costumers. Needs help
