The 15 Best New Restaurants in Tokyo | Eater

"Mega-chef Eneko Atxa has landed in Tokyo, giving Japanese diners a chance to discover the modernist cuisine that won him three Michelin stars at Azurmendi, his headquarters in the heart of Spain’s Basque country. Besides the main dining room, which serves dishes such as his signature truffled egg, there is also a separate ground-floor bar. At last Tokyo can enjoy decent pintxos with good txakoli and rioja wines to back them up." - Robbie Swinnerton

Went for lunch and had a beautiful course. Note: even lunch can be a 3+ hour experience, so budget time accordingly so you don’t miss out. The space itself is lovely, spanning out between two floors. We waited in the downstairs bar/lounge area for everyone to arrive before being escorted to a kind of showroom where we were presented with the picnic basket h’orderves. Then, we were taken upstairs and down a long hallway to the dining room. Each course was beautifully prepared, and it was a serene space where you could easily enjoy conversation. A couple tips: - Definitely get the truffle egg add-on - If you get the choice between fish, duck, and beef, get the duck or beef. The people who got the tuna were the only ones who had any disappointment during the meal - Try the house wine—it’s lovely!

I had guests from overseas and I really wanted this to be good but unfortunately both the food and the experience were disappointing. It was the first time in Japan I felt I didn't want to finish the food because it tasted bad. For example, there was a bitterness in the mousse inside a yuzu skin shell, an oily taste in the deep-fried items, and a raw, fishy taste in the cod tempura and eel puff which shouldn't be there. The non-Japanese staff tried very hard but their English was abominable when it came to explaining about the dishes so there were often awkward silences. I can see why it was very easy to book and the place was not even half full on a Friday afternoon. It really is a shame because the venue is stunning. I do hope they improve over time.

Awesome lunch deal and such a cute picnic concept!! Beware: dress code they don’t tell you about. Also, heads up: no one liked the squid (or the miso dessert, which was SO salty). Note that they do allow for dietary restrictions including vegetarian.

Eneko was overall a pretty solid experience. The food is really unique and prepared extremely well. It's flavourful and takes you on a journey back to Spain and far away from Tokyo. The wine and drink selection is also superb, with fantastic pairing for the meals. I have been to some Michelin restaurants before, and while this one was not the best it was certainly memorable and noteworthy. I came for business, so unclear of the cost or difficult to obtain a reservation. Nonetheless, I would not mind returning at all.

Chasing chef Eneko from Bilbao to Tokyo! Nice experience at Tokyo one with something similar/familiar from Azurmendi but also some uniqueness about Japan! Always charmed by these fusion/combination art and definitely this restaurant kept the high quality standard of food as always. Highly recommended to those who wanna see how Japan can meet Spain

Really a great value. Pricing is great and paired as perfectly with the flavor as the wine pairs with the food

It was definitely interesting and experimental, but it was a bit too much for me.
