Engine Coffee

This instantly became one of my favorite coffee shops in Chicago! They offer a great selection of beans (from Metric), and I really enjoyed both the pour-over and flat white. The barista was friendly, and there’s plenty of seating including two cozy window corner tables. They also had vinyl playing in the background which added a nice touch to the ambiance.

My wife and I came here this AM for a coffee. We really enjoyed this local (independent/non franchise) coffee shop with a relaxing 'hang out' environment, complete with a large table in the back appropriate for a small group meet-up. The coffee is excellent and the only reason I do not give the food 5-stars is that the bakery was a day old (but it is Sunday so completely understandable)- though still quite delicious. We walked as it is very local, but it is nice to see that there is ample parking nearby.

Great coffee, fabulous atmosphere, friendly staff. Stroller friendly too. Food options great for breakfast on the go when needed!

10/10 iced matcha! Lovely staff. They also have a cool record collection and art by local artists. Also great nooks if you need to get some work done.

Coffee is tasty, selection is good. Some complaints from me (but maybe it’s your thing): room temperature runs cold and it’s drafty by the windows, service is not hostile but also not warm, and the EDM bouncing out of the speakers overhead is too many beats per minute. Tables are full of folks on their laptops and tablets, often with headphones on. Are they keeping the place in business? I want this place to stay as it’s great to have a locally owned coffee shop in the neighborhood. Sadly, it doesn’t have a friendly feel that encourages me to frequently return. I’ve visited a few times to get a Do-Rite donut and drip coffee, but find myself merely tolerating the cold room and equally chilly demeanor.

Another great shop! Pretty basic somewhat bare bones decor, but it has a really awesome, no pretense, city vibe. It’s cool without trying to be - which is the definition of cool, right? Great music (experimental pop, soul, easy-listening funk, Burt Bacharach, mashup) and really delicious coffee and donut. My first impression was kinda meh, but I left loving it.

Great little coffee shop. Music not too loud, fun fire engine motif, wifi is good, and very clean. Do rite donuts and pastries smack. Seating is a little limited. They also sell records which is fun.

Our go-to coffee shop. Excellent quality espresso drinks. Everything is simple and well done. Great place to go with our 2.5 year old. Love that they partner with local places and have breakfast tacos, pastries, and donuts as well.

This is a neighborhood staple for high quality and consistent coffee :) Efficient service and friendly employees. Always clean and has a simple and artsy aesthetic with its selection of local artists work on the wall and thriving plants. In addition to high quality coffee, I love that they carry Cafe Tola tacos and empanadas with salsa on the side! Amazing collaboration for a filling and hot breakfast with your coffee. It's also a great cafe for sitting to read a book or get some work done.

What a cute and cozy lil coffee shop! I stopped by here to grab lattes and have a chat and they had banana bread lattes! They weren't too sweet, just the right amount of sweet and banana flava. We sat at the cute little table next to the front window and had a lovely visit. The dude working that day was friendly and provided great service. Street parking is easy right out front. I will be back!

Coffee was amazing! Service was quick and even brought our drinks to us. Unfortunately when we got there, many of their food and pastries were sold out. We got the banana bread latte, americano, blueberry muffin, and ham and cheese croissant. I was really hoping that the croissant was heated.

I am all about this place! Great staff, small well thought out menu, a fun inside giving just enough space. Cozy fuel stop nestled in Chicago's neighbor with free Sunday street parking for our well timed weekend morning caffeine cure, I introduced my lips to an unusual South American fruit latte not remembering the name. So tasty! Made a pineapple taste with the espresso, uniquely tasty perfect fix for a warm September day, I always like trying new foods and Engine gets my motor going for more!

Cute little spot with vintage aestheric with great simple coffee. Just got a latte and was given a wonderful smile and a heart in latte art which made my morning. Great people. Recommend

Nice little coffee shop with a good cold brew and seems dog friendly based on the doodles I was petting. There's some outdoor seating too.

Ordered: Bang Bang Pie Latte - toasted pecans, sorghum, maple syrup and dark chocolate in graham cracker crust My sweet tooth enjoyed the Bang Bang Pie Latte and banana bread. I like the simple and spacious interior design. Nothing distracting and easy to have conversation or study. The employee was friendly and helpful.

Great service, nice espresso, the donuts are really good, old fashioned and fresh. The ham and cheese croissant is also tasty, very buttery and flakey and if you pop it in the oven for a few minutes it just rocks your socks.

We were out for a walk on Ashland with the pup's and found ourselves outside Engine Coffee. Yay! Appropriately named because our engines needed a boost! Engine Coffee was just what the doctor ordered! We ordered two large lattes and a breakfast burrito. The lattes were hot and delicious! They use Big Shoulders Coffee here and their preparation was fantastic! So tasty. The breakfast burrito we ordered was hot and included egg, cheese, and bacon. Such a nice combination with the latte and gave us fuel for continuing our walk. We really enjoyed our first visit to Engine Coffee and will definitely return in the future.

Amazing food, great ambiance and fast service! We got the iced latte and the iced vanilla latte and feel that it's competing for the best coffee in Chicago!

Wow! Engine Coffee is the real deal! Located in a cute storefront in the West Town? UK Village neighborhoods, this small spot offers big customer service and an even bigger heart. As I walked up, a man looking down on his luck was in front of the building. The guy working inside came out and asked him if he would like a cup of coffee. That just warmed by heart to see such gracious kindness. Once inside, the room has vintage charm in an uncluttered way. Old hardwood floors, high urban loft ceilings and several seating options to choose from. We ended up sitting up in the elevated front window. It was great for people watching with a lot of sunshine too. My son loved his cappuccino and my oat mile latte was delicious. They were rich and smooth, just the way I prefer my coffee.My son picked up some pastries to bring home and later told me he enjoyed them as well. I will definitely return!

I have been to engine many times as it is in my neighborhood and I have always received great service. However this morning I ordered a drink and it took 46 minutes from ordering to walking out of the door. I don't know what the hold up was. I understand waiting 15 minutes for a drink because I realize that this is a place I go to in order to get quality coffee beverages but 46 minutes took almost an hour out of my day waiting with little explanation of when to expect my latte. I want to reiterate that in the past I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences here but today I was very disappointed and I wish I would've known before ordering that it would take that long.

Cute spot that's perfect for working! Tons of seating and wall outlets, especially in the back. I particularly enjoy sitting by the windows for natural light. Enjoy!

The atmosphere is perfect to do work in, and the latte was amazing! I'm visiting from out of state and this was the perfect shop to come to.

I love this place. Their falls drinks are delicious and I like the seating options. It's a bit more stuffy than your typical cafe, but they get a pass because the coffee is so good and they are really doing it right.

New coffee shop and I have to say, it's super nice and the coffee taste great! I've had their iced americano and iced mocha and both were great! The coffee roast was very good and the mocha is soooooooo good not your typical sweet mocha it's a good in between. The environment inside is very calm and chill, perfect to read or work.

Best coffee in the neighborhood! Philz sucks, boycott Starbucks, go to Engine and get some work done.

GREAT new coffee shop and an outstanding addition to the neighborhood. Happens to also be by Fire Engine 42, and they stick to the theme throughout the experience, from the large hydrant up front to the red metal decor. They serve Big Shoulders Coffee and a variety of Chicago favorites such as pastries and BIF Cheese. Owners are very nice and best of all they are laptop worker friendly with lots of outlets, fast wifi and non-judgy attitude. Overall I'm very excited to have them in the neighborhood - welcome to Noble Square/Wicker Park!

Best lattes in the neighborhood here. Also good price. These are the lattes that after the first sip you audibly sigh as everything in the world seems just a little better now.

Great neighborhood cafe - welcome addition to the neighborhood. Fire house theme, friendly knowledgeable staff and strong wifi makes this my new work from home "office". Plus Pretty Good Bagels on the weekends!

Great local coffee shop! I walked in on a Saturday morning and a Sunday morning, no waiting. Staff was very pleasant. The Big Shoulders coffee is delicious. I was very pleased with the pastries, enjoyed a banana bread and a carrot bran muffin. I highly recommend this shop. Good service, good product, good prices.

Delicious delicious coffee and yummy bagels. We also tried the bif cheese (kinda like a pub cheese Chicago style-- giardiniera mixed in). Perfect addition to the neighborhood. Staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of space to work as well.
