Enigma Yorkville

"Chef Quinton Bennett has an international resume and a well-traveled kitchen team, so influences and techniques can range from the Nordics to Nihon. Dishes are delicate, poised and detailed creations – he certainly doesn’t make life easy for his brigade as there’s always plenty of intricacy happening on each plate. Fortunately, the flavors are always complementary, with Atlantic halibut paired with chanterelles and Australian wagyu with bone marrow. Desserts, like raspberry and yuzu with puff pastry, are often the highlight. The wine pairings are also thoughtfully composed. All you have to do, when you book a table at this handsome Yorkville restaurant, is decide whether you want 6, 8 or 10 of the surprise courses." - Michelin Inspector

Visiting Enigma at Yorkville was an extraordinary culinary journey that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived until the final farewell, every detail was meticulously crafted to ensure a phenomenal dining experience. One of the highlights of the evening was the wine pairing with the 10-course tasting menu. Each course was thoughtfully complemented by a selection of wines that elevated the flavors and added depth to the dining experience. The sommelier's expertise was evident, making each sip and bite a harmonious delight. The Atlantic lobster dish stood out as a true masterpiece. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was nothing short of artistic. It was a testament to the chef's skill and creativity, leaving a lasting impression that will be remembered for years to come. Chef Bennett was an exceptional host, embodying humility and passion. His approach to the kitchen was akin to a conductor leading an orchestra, with precision and harmony guiding every movement. It was evident that his leadership and vision played a pivotal role in earning Enigma its well-deserved Michelin star. Overall, Enigma at Yorkville is a dining destination that promises an unforgettable experience. The combination of exceptional cuisine, impeccable service, and a captivating ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking a truly remarkable culinary adventure. Highly recommended!

Very friendly and more importantly, engaging staff. I feel like we got to interact with almost everyone on the team at some point during our visit. The blind tasting menu felt like a meticulously crafted tour around the world. Each dish paid homage to different international cuisines. Very well executed! Will try to check out the Macallan lounge next time.

This was truly an unforgettable dining experience. Even though some dishes needed to be refined between cook, texture and seasoning, overall the taste, plating and service was great. Top dishes of the night was the Yellowtail and Cornish Hen (the wasabi snow is something special) Only downside was that the chef didn’t make a visit to our table. It would have given the night that extra touch and make us understand the inspiration for the current menu. Also, the upsell at the beginning for the wine pairing was awkward and could have done without it. With that being said, I would like to return to experience their next tasting menu.

Absolutely phenomenal in every sense. The dishes are works of art in both flavour and presentation. The mixed juices were otherworldly. The chefs are truly passionate about their work and are masters of their craft. Highly recommend!

Google
We greatly enjoyed all courses of our meal and the wine pairings. We're no stranger to tasting menus, and this is among the best. - Staff are all friendly, easy to understand and eager to make sure everyone at the table is enjoying the experience. - Food and Drink knowledge are top notch. - Pairings were excellent with each course, juice and wine. The property is immaculate and it's clear management and staff care. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Probably the best dining experiences I’ve had the pleasure of having. I think if you can, try to go at least once in your life! The service, the creativity of the food, the tastes and flavours, everything was absolutely amazing. Thank you to the whole team for treating us so well and being so kind. It’s really beautiful to see the passion for food and hospitality from the second you walk in to the second you walk out.

Google
Disappointing experience - wish we had returned to Danico or even Butcher Chef to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday! Service: I explained my fruit allergies across 4 various platforms (1) explained on the OpenTable app, (2) explained to staff on a phone call, (3) explained to the first waiter when he brought a peach tea as a welcome drink which I couldn’t drink. They didn’t even offer me an alternative - I had to watch my company drink away and then (4) explained to the second waiter when he brought starters including peach. During a later dish, the head chef, who also happens to be South African like me, came to present the main dish which I believe was lamb. Unlike the other staff, he made zero eye contact, aggressively presents the dish and left in a huff as if we were somehow wasting his time. He amused all the surrounding tables as I could hear him sharing stories about South Africa and other pleasantries. Perhaps sending meals back (because my allergies were not captured by the staff) offended him and this was his response? I also chuckled when they served pork as one of the courses - a cheaper alternative to other meat options, duck or beef would’ve been more fitting for this place. I gave a bonus star because the actual waiters are friendly, charming and present each dish eloquently. The Atmosphere was somber however I’m unsure if that’s intentional. I wish I didn’t have to write this review, but I’m new to the city and I would like others to have an honest idea on what to expect here.

Google
Our first time at Enigma. We were the only table that night (as they had recently had some scheduling changes allowing them to open for the night), and they provided us with a SUPERB experience. Each dish was wonderfully explained, all cocktails and wine pairings were also paired and explained well. I really enjoyed the gastronomy (gels, etc.) used in the preparation of the dishes. Stand out dish were the lobster and the salmon.

Yelp
Chef came by a few times to say hello! the non alcoholic pairing was impressive! not just your "fake wine" but there were pretty impressive concoctions that paired well with the food. lots of thought put into it. currently 1 michelin star but felt like 3 michelin star level. Go before their prices go up and they get their 3 stars! though they did forget to offer tea/coffee WITH the dessert (I like the coffee tea WITH dessert in case I want to water down the sugar)

Yelp
Very delicious tasting menu. Each dish highlighted something special and clearly was thoroughly designed. We enjoyed the special meal, as well as the quiet intimate space.

Yelp
I loved everything about Enigma the first time my wife and I ate here. Now we have booked again. Friends want to join us but it seems impossible to change the reservation size. Open Table tells us we can only do it through the restaurant. The restaurant doesn't answer its phone or respond to its messages. I've spent considerable time trying to find a work-around but neither Open Table nor Enigma make any live contact possible. Very frustrating! I'm thinking I'll have to drive to the restaurant in person.

Yelp
Incredible. Unique. Hard to put into words. The cocktail pairing is no joke, those cocktails keep coming hard and fast. Service is incredible. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We had an interesting evening dining here. Food and drinks are pretty good but a few things you need to know before booking. I was expecting to get more than only one dish topped up with truffles for the ad-on of 150 plus tax (each) but it was only for the steak so that didn't really worth it, drinks are cool but Im not really sure why they didn't work though lol And surprisingly, the head chef was occasionally brining dishes himself and having a friendly chat while explaining the dishes but he decided to skip us for whatever reason. Maybe they're not used to younger crowd Favourite dish: the mushroom one, caviar soup and ravioli Was it fun? Yes we both enjoyed, 1500 dollars fun? No, not even close Repeat? Probably not. Recommend? Hmm, yes. if number doesn't bother you. Its a cool experience

Yelp
We were inspired by the show Bear to try a Michelin star restaurant. Enigma caught my eye because of the variety of cuisines their menu said to encompass. Plus the US dollar is a bit stronger so it felt like a steal. This was such an amazing experience. I'll admit I haven't been to any so maybe the level of service is expected for a place like this. I loved the 'team effort' mentality with all the staff, different people can all serve and describe what you're eating. My water cup was always full and the minute you're done eating someone comes around to clean up. You leave for the bathroom and someone folds your napkin and opens the door for you. It's a smaller, more intimate setting so you feel almost important vs being a statistic in a big noisy restaurant. The food was fantastic. Interesting textures/ flavors all in 1-2 bite morsels was such a fun way to eat. The appetizer and the beef were probably my favorite, but the mushroom with the dash gelee was a close third. We did the non alcoholic pairing (this was a baby moon trip after all) and was surprised and how tasty all the juices/teas were. Nothing was overly sweet which I appreciated. Hands down would come again and it really just inspired me to try other places. I definitely feel like the value is there. Also was really impressed they had a waiter who could translate everything for Chinese customers.

Yelp
Enigma deserves their Michelin Star! Service, food, and ambiance are superb. It ain't cheap but you get an amazing assortment of beautiful and wonderful dishes. Even the vegetarian diner in our party loved everything created. My only quibble would be wine pairings which were good but not commensurate with the food. Would I come back....just ask me....I'll be on the next flight back.

Yelp
Enigma is my favourite restaurant in the world at this point. Chef Quinton does a masterful job. I've been here 4 times now and nothing is even mediocre let alone bad. Phenomenal flavours. Be sure to pair their cocktails as it's rare to have that pairing and mixologist Lawrence and the team make incredible cocktails. Some new staff since I last went 2 months ago and their inexperience at the restaurant showed a bit. But this place is still unreal. Huge fan. I'll keep coming back for sure.

Yelp
I made a reservation at Engima Yorkville a month ago to celebrate an anniversary and birthday on a rare weekend away from home without kids. The restaurant's website made clear that they would contact us ahead of time to learn of any dietary restrictions (my partner is dairy free). Three days before our dinner, the restaurant contacted us to say that they could not accommodate allergens in their tasting menu, nor did they have any a la carte options. When I pointed out that their website made very clear that they would work with customers on allergens, they claimed the policy had just changed that week. For a Michelin-star restaurant to completely fail to accommodate any allergens in their customers is horrible customer service and in my opinion makes them unworthy of a star.

Yelp
This makes the list of our top 5 restaurant experiences in Toronto. We came here to celebrate our recent marriage and loved every moment of our experience here. We did the regular tasting menu and each dish was very tasty and carefully curated. They even made a point to make sure our experience was special because we were celebrating something. We came for 6:30pm on a Wednesday and we were the first ones there. At around 7-7:30pm it started getting busier and by the end of the night, almost all the tables were filled. The restaurant isn't large, but just the right size to have an intimate dinner with someone. The interior is nicely decorated with the beautiful mosaic ceilings and gold accents. The dishes were paced very nicely and was explained to us by one of the servers. We thought it was nice that we had different servers throughout the night alternating serving, cleaning, giving new cutlery, etc. It seemed very cohesive. Each dish was delicious, but our favourite was a perfectly crispy and buttery roll with lobster. Dipped in the sauce was perfection. We had about 8-9 courses and were absolutely full and satisfied by the end of it. They even gave us cute takeaway bags with breakfast items for the next day. So thoughtful! Is it pricey? Yes. However, we reserved this restaurant before they got a Michelin star, and after coming here we think they definitely deserve it. Worth it for a special occasion.

Yelp
I am not sure I ever left a restaurant more stuffed. Service, food, and ambiance were all on point. We sat at the chef's counter and that automatically comes with some additions to the menu as well as a drink pairing. I got the cocktail pairing while my girlfriend got the nonalcoholic pairing. You get one small drink per dish compared to other places where you may get a drink for every 1 or 2 dishes. We were so full that we couldn't finish the dessert plate but we were able to get it packed away along with our little goodie bag for breakfast tomorrow. It was not a cheap experience but worth it for a special occasion.

Yelp
Great fantastic service, they were attentive and friendly. I thought that it was a tad heavy on the seafood, but the flavours were there and it was delicious.

Yelp
Enigma's 8-course tasting menu is priced smartly: at $230, it's not an eat-here-every-week affair, yet it isn't so costly as to become seemingly prohibitive unless phrases like my yacht also escapes your lips (Sushi Masaki Saito, this is directed to you). It's a place to visit if you are celebrating an occasion or to really unwind, which is where I found myself a couple of days before Christmas. Another year of work was in the rearview mirror and the holidays were about to begin - why not get it started with a bang? I wanted to give my brain a rest... no more decisions, just feed my body with provisions and provide a few hours of blissful conversation to melt away the stress. It seemed to start in that vein as a warm shot of Enigma's immune booster was presented at the table. Yet, before we could cheers to good health, a host of decisions had to be made: did we want a juice ($75), cocktail ($130) or wine pairing to go with the meal? Did the occasion need some extra indulgence because we could get a spoon of sturgeon caviar ($80) added into the lobster chawanmushi or have an extra alba truffle dish? Please... just let the table have the lovely warm ginger citrus shot before inundating us with pesky decisions. Luckily, once the pairing and supplementary questions were out of the way, we didn't need to decide on anything else, other than what steak knife to use - more on that later. Instead, we were treated to two delicious snacks: a wonderful corn tartlet made from an impossibly thin crispy shell holding a buttery sweet corn espuma studded with popped kernels and other crunchy nutty bits that made me moan; and a chicken skin sandwich piped with a lovely miso-butter mousse. Yum! What looks like a salad comes next, baked leaves of black cabbage, kale and spinach piled around squash and a smoked foie gras centre. Each bite is rich and oily... much too oily for my taste. Check out Gastroworld for the rest of the review as this is a long one!

Yelp
Brought my bf here for his birthday as a surprise Toronto getaway. He's always wanted to eat at a Michelin star restaurant and we have no options in Lansing, MI. Made reservations for the 8 course tasting menu, and ended up doing the wine pairing for each of us. Whole experience was wonderful and we would highly recommend it. We ended up arriving about 20 min early since traffic was heavy and it was Saturday night on Halloween weekend so we left early. I was all for walking around a bit before checking in since I didn't think we'd be seated early, but went in anyways and they were able to seat us right away! Dining room is very small, only about 10 tables and some counter seats, but decor was very interesting. I think we ended up being served by every person working that night, though we did have a consistent sommelier and hostess (?). They were all great at explaining each dish, how to eat them and the wine paired with each course. My bf was very happy with how comfortable they made us feel so we weren't intimidated eating at such a fancy restaurant. Food was very good and plated well. Standouts were the soft cheese with cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs, the red snapper and the fish with mushrooms. Staff was very kind and brought my bf a piece of cake during the last course with a lit candle. They also took a photo of us during dinner and gave it to us with a gift bag when we left. Also, since it was his bday, they invited us next door for a complimentary cocktail each. The chef just opened (3 days prior) a sister restaurant that serves tapas, wine and cocktails. Cocktails were good and service was again stellar. Food looked interesting but we we so full from our 8 courses that we didn't get anything else. The only negative was another customer who came in after us. He was seated right behind us with a woman, and was very rude to the staff. Apparently he expected to be seated at the counter but his reservation was for the tasting menu instead. He said some nasty things after the staff left, and with the things he did say to them I was surprised he didn't get kicked out. Otherwise I was very pleased with our experience and would highly recommend, especially if you've not eaten at a Michelin star restaurant before.

Yelp
Not a surprise this place snagged a Michelin Star! We were welcomed with a rose and lemon tea (?) which was sweet and refreshing. And had a few snacks before our 9 courses began. I really loved the crispy chicken skin sandwich. The skin was crispy and fragrant and the ginger and sesame elevated the flavors! My favorites: - Scallop, Squid Ink: This was delicious and beautifully plated - PEl Lobster: This was perfectly cooked and tender and had so many complementary flavors - Cornish Hen: This was actually one of my favorite dishes of the night. The hen was tender with a crispy skin and there was this second piece that was so flavorful and tender (SO GOOD) Peach & Tarragon: This is the IG worthy dessert that we always see, and its just as tasty as it is beautiful Least favorites: - Fresh Cheese: This was one of the only dishes I felt were just okay. I didn't love the combination of cheese, peas and mint - P.E.I Beef, Maitake: We added freshly shaved truffle which honestly didn't do too much for the dish because the Maitake mushroom was so pungent, the steak was tender and tasty but I felt the Maitake took away from it Petit Four: These were just okay, I felt like it was almost dessert overload from all the sweets We opted for the premium wine pairing, which I think could be improved. The amount of wine was a bit light, it was virtually 1-2 slips per glass (8 glasses) for I believe $250, and I was barely buzzed. In comparison at Alo, we could barely walk out after lol. Overall, loved the food and will come back and just order wine by the bottle. Definitely recommend for a date night or special occasion

Yelp
Great dinning experience from beginning to end. Service was highly at tentative. Great option for wine pairing/non-alcohol drink pairing for the food(did not opt in for). Every course was delicious and the highlight would have been the Iberico Pork and the apple at the very end. Great goodie bag at the end of the evening to continue to remember the experience for the following morning!

Yelp
The experience at Enigma is exactly what you'd expect at a high-end fine-dining restaurant in Yorkville, especially at a restaurant that has coveted 1 Michelin star. Top-notch and very attentive service, super high attention to every single detail (placement of napkins and utensils on the table, etc.), and high-quality food with fresh local ingredients. Here is the breakdown of my review: // THE SERVICE It meets expectation for a high-end fine-dining tasting restaurant, and a Michelin restaurant. The ratio of staff-to-tables was high, and all the staff worked together to serve all tables (instead of each server being assigned to certain tables). All the servers were knowledgeable in explaining each dish and the long list of ingredients. Great friendly and helpful service with personalized attention. // INTERIOR The interior décor is beautiful, classy, and modern with a lot of attention to detail (just like their service and everything else). Blue and gold seem to be their theme of colours. // THE RESTAURANT & BLIND TASTING EXPERIENCE The restaurant is fairly new and has only been opened for about one year, yet it has coveted 1 Michelin star (one of the first in all of Canada)! They only offer blind tasting experience, meaning there is no a la carte menu and the chefs decide on what to cook and serve you. They rotate their tasting menu / dishes every season, and they use local ingredients that are in season (big salute to this). The pacing of when each course comes to the table and empty plates get taken away is very on point. There is no long wait in between courses at all. As soon as you're seated at your table, you're presented with a welcome warm towels (with pinewood essence that smelled like the forest), cold sweet tea (elderflower, chamomile, lemon verbena), and water to start. Then two small amuse-bouche dishes came (crispy tarts with corn mousse, and thin crispy mushroom slices with mushroom mousse in between the crispy layers), which were both really good (especially the corn tarts). // THE FOOD We had the no-meat, pescetarian option. Every dish was presented very nicely and like a work of art, and the server explained each dish in great detail, including a long list of ingredients. The first few dishes (the appetizers) were quite sweet and incorporated a lot of fruits, caramel, and jellies (which tasted more like desserts). Even the scallops dish was quite sweet as it was covered in some fruity jelly, and the fresh cheese (that had the texture and taste of a soft silky tofu) dish had some caramel drizzle on top, which was not to my liking. But then the good savoury dishes came (grilled or poached salmon with salmon roe, lobster, and sablefish with eggplant that was out of this world). Those 3 pescetarian dishes were my favourites. The sauces that came with the fish and lobster dishes were really good. The lobster came with a side of garlic bread (which was more like a sticky spiral brioche bun) and green herbs butter. The vegetarian dish consisted of a cauliflower steak (which had a smoky flavour), some Asian pear bits, a square made of pear, and other items on the plate with ingredients that I could not remember. It was a mix of different textures and flavours (soft, crunchy, salty, sweet, a bit of umami). There were 2 desserts. The first dessert was crispy funnel cakes (which were lighter than the regular funnel cakes you'd get anywhere else) with fresh and dehydrated strawberries & creme fraiche. For us, the dish with the most artistic presentation was the last dish / course which was the "Peach & Tarragon" - a giant custom-made tree with 2 frozen peach "balls" made of frozen outer peach layer, with soft white chocolate & actual peach chunks inside. Then there were shorter "tree stumps" as small plates for the other mini desserts (meringue with a citrus layer in the middle, matcha layer cake, dark chocolate truffle ball). Overall, all the dishes were very creative, inventive, and artistic in plating and presentation. It was amazing how the chefs were able to come up with such unique combinations of flavours and textures in every dish, using seemingly simple local ingredients. // RESERVATIONS & PRICE POINTS You need to make a reservation online (good luck getting one... you might need to keep checking as reservations fill up VERY quickly, especially since the word got out that they're one of the very few restaurants in the city that got Michelin star award). There is a strict no-cancellation policy (cancellation fee is $100 per person). Price for an 8-course tasting menu (as of Summer / Fall 2022) is $230 person, before tax, drinks (you can choose a juice or wine pairing menu, or order wine from an a la carte drinks menu), and add-ons (you can opt to add add-ons such as Sturgeon caviar and white or black truffle shavings on some of your dishes). If you have any dietary restrictions or food preferences (such as vegetarian, vegan, or pescetarian), you should let them know ahead of time.

Yelp
Went there last Saturday with another couple. Walking in it's a warm and welcoming room which was not too quiet. I definitely loved the atmosphere and was excited for the food. We went with the wine pairing for 150 more. Alright we are all in. Food was good. I did not think it was unbelievable or better than just good. The plating was incredible and some stand out dishes. The lobster dish was for me the best savoury and both deserts were great. Ok so this may sound like a weird criticism but holy moly we couldn't speak for 5 minutes without someone coming to explain something about something. I totally get this may be a place where there needs to be some explanation but lol I don't know it seemed excessive. Do not go there if you have to talk about something important. Lol. Wine pairing was great. We finished dinner got coffee and night caps. And then got the bill. 2k for the 4 of us. Very expensive place. But hey we knew it was pricey going in. Here is the surprising part...and granted we were the last people in the restaurant. But we were asked to leave. Swear pinky swear the manager came up after we paid 2k for 4 people and said hey it's late. It was 12 o clock. I've never ever been asked to leave a restaurant. Let alone after paying that amount of money. We didn't need the whole staff there. Maybe just send everyone home and wait 5 mins. It really did sour the night. Also please for the love of anything and everything do not charge 30 dollars for vallet when the restaurant is this expensive.

Yelp
From September 2023. Went to celebrate a special occasion! Really attentive service and great place to celebrate - they took a Polaroid of us as and gave us a complimentary dessert too. Beautiful presentation and great food. In the bag they packed, we received truffle granola and a brownie.

Yelp
Tried the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairings. I highly recommend the wine pairings since it adds to the experience and allows you to try various wines from different regions. The first was a lovely Brut Champagne and set the tone for the rest of the night. The staff is very pleasant and well versed in storytelling to educate diners and add to your overall appreciation of the chef's artful presentation and attention to detail in every dish. They really care about their work and go above and beyond. The dishes use high quality ingredients like caviar, freshly shaven black and white truffles, lobster, lamb, and much more. It's an extremely rich, fine dining experience, and one of the best I've experienced in the city. The restaurant is small and tucked away on St. Thomas, across the street from the Windsor Arms hotel. If you'd like an intimate and private setting, you should consider Enigma. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Very underwhelming. Menu lacked inspiration and was very basic. The ambience might've been Michelin star worthy but every other aspect seemed normal

Yelp
Came for dinner with my family on jan 1! Enigma's menu changes, so I can only comment on what we ate as of Jan 1, but we really enjoyed every dish. Each course was carefully explained, and a delightful mix of textures and flavours. Service was amazing, and we had a great dinner overall!! Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Yelp
Very inventive dishes that are secret until they arrive. Based on previous reviews it like they change the menu out seasonally. The cocktail pairing was really unique and I'd highly recommend it. The most interesting part to me was how they really play with not only the flavors but also the textures of the food. Favorite dish for me was the BBQ lobster and brioche with leek butter. I can't begin to describe the savory yumminess! Wonderful experience for our 17th wedding anniversary.

Yelp
Now THIS is fine dining. I've never experienced fine dining in Toronto till I came to Enigma. Everything was detailed, personal, attentive, and done with care. I was celebrating a special event in my life and I swear, every staff came over to congratulate me. We were offered champagne on the house once we sat down and dishes that would most likely require your hands to eat came with a small little towel so you can wipe your fingers after eating. Yes, this is how attentive this place is. This is a fine dining place so expect a tasting menu. We went with the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairings and mind you, their menu changes depending on what is in season. I cannot even begin with the vastness of flavour and try in each dish. You can get crunch, foam, mousse, chewiness, buttery and practically any texture you can think of in the the tasting menu. My favourite was the Fruit Tree, Hamachi, Quail and Lobster. The Fruit Tree literally reminded me of a scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when Mrs. Beauregarde was plucking fruit off a desert tree and it was EXACTLY what I thought it would taste like. The Hamachi had a beautiful presentation and the ingredients and gastronomical skills in the ginger wrap was mind blowing. The Quail was good but the main thing that was absolutely delicious was the foie gras ice cream - like wtf, HOW?! How is it this good with puffed rice? And lastly, the lobster and the lavender cardamom sauce took me to heaven. Also want to add that you can get truffles and caviar on top of certain dishes too. Get the caviar with the Sable, you won't regret it. Yes it's a little pricey but it was so worth it. It was $220pp for 8 course and an additional for wine pairings. I wouldn't be surprised if this place climbed to the top of Toronto's #1 restaurant - potentially topping Alo with its food and service.

Yelp
Excellent service and taste. Decor was also cozy and private. Lobster was well prepared as well as chicken. White truffles and caviar complemented very well with the dishes that were made. Amazing desserts on the tree.

Yelp
In a word: underwhelming. The in-restaurant service here was excellent. The deserts here were excellent. But, the balance of the food itself was a real let down. Context here is everything: Dinner for 2 with wine pairings comes to $1,000+ . For that price, I was expecting to be totally blown away by world class food. I wasn't. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad. But don't expect to feel like you got your money's worth, as I've felt with other international offerings with a similar price points. It lacked that feeling of "wow" I wished I got with every bite. The biggest let down was the totally abysmal customer service when it came to canceling our reservation due to a child care issues we were having. We gave 12 days notice and they were shameful unapologetic about not even considering an exception to their extremely legalistic cancelation policy. They threatened to charge us $200 if we canceled. Overall, I think our city has way better options for a way better price point, and I would not recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This place is a true gem. A friend brought me here for my birthday and it was an amazing experience. From start to finish, it embodied what you should look for in a fine dining restaurant. Food: 5/5 amazing. Every dish was a unique blend of world cuisine and serious culinary skill. All the meats were perfectly cooked and the desserts were a perfect blend of not too sweet and delicious! Service: 5/5 the pacing was perfect for every entree. There wasn't a long wait in between each one. The staff were the perfect amount of attentive, they didn't bother you while you were trying to eat but were quick to come around when you needed them. They also took their time to explain each dish, its origins and the level of care put into preparing each one. Atmosphere: 5/5, the inside of the restaurant is an absolute beauty. Perfect for a fancy date night or a special get together with friends or family. The walls are covered with a colourful mosaic, the chairs are comfortable, the bathrooms are clean (and very expensive looking) and you can see right into the kitchen. Which is pretty cool, it definitely adds to the experience. Dress code: I would say it's more on the trendy/formal end of things. I went in the summer so I dressed up a summer dress with a nice pair of heels and jewelry. I didn't feel out of place. I did see people dressed slightly more and less formally than myself. All around this place is hands down amazing, I would highly recommend it and I can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Food was terribly underwhelming Service was on the awkward side One of the chefs smelled like terrible B.O. and delivered a dish that was nauseating (some terrible scallop dish in jelly, that smelled bad and tasted god awful). Other dishes were decent but not up to standards of Toronto tasting menus. Look elsewhere.

Yelp
We came here for valentines day, they had a special tasting menu during that day. We had their tasting menu with juice and cocktail pairing. The food was great--in that the tasting menu was awesome-- but the juice pairing was lacklustre. The juices pretty much all tasted the same and did not have much variance in taste. For the cost (~$100) we expected much more innovative types of juices. (Like for example maybe oriented a savoury juice revolving around tomatoes or something? Rather than the straight up blended fruit juices offered...). We've had juice pairing elsewhere, notably at Central in Peru and it was a much better experience. Aside from the food, moreover, the manager there was very rude --borderline racist. The manager explicitly asked my girlfriend and I whether we knew what halibut was in a condescending manner (likely because me and my girlfriend were asian). Halibut is not even an exotic fish --you can find it pretty much at any local supermarket. Also we never explicitly had any questions about the dish. If he wanted to explain the dish he could have easily asked if we wanted to know anything about the dish or if we had any questions instead of asking us a condescending question. We also overheard him ask the other table beside us (a chinese couple) whether they knew what foie gras was. It just seems so condescending to ask people if they knew about pretty common ingredients (likely to make it seem like the restaurant is very sophisticated). Highly likely the manager would not have walked up to a table of a white couple and asked them if they knew what halibut was.

Yelp
Ordered our NYE dinner from them and was really hoping it'd be something special. Mains were halibut (pretty good) stuffed chicken (good) and porcetta (not so good). Beets caesar salad and root veggies were the chosen sides, all decent. Deserts were apple crumble (ok) bread pudding (didnt taste it) and cookies (good). All desserts were fairly small. Back to the porcetta. I know its supposed to be fatty like pork belly. But it was more than 50% fat. And the fat wasnt the melt in your mouth kind the whole thing wasnt quite cooked well enough (not raw or anything like that) but a bit more time under the broiler and the fat would have rendered a bit more maybe? I couldnt finish it but the next day i pulled out the leftovers cooked it some more and it was perfection! Got the skin a bit crispier too! Pretty expensive (its NYE so I expected that). But i did not expect to have to do my own cooking. Yeah i was disappointed.

Yelp
The food and service was great during dinner. They presented caviar and truffles to add on to our dishes however I wish they had mentioned how much of an extra surcharge it would be. For the truffles we had thought it was a choice of which truffle was to be on top for our next dish as it was presented that way but later realized it was an extra charge. Other than that the dinner was impeccable. The only real hiccup we experienced was when we got the bill in which I noticed the price per person for the pre fixe course was higher than anticipated. I asked why to find out that they had charged us for an entire other person as one of our guests had to cancel last minute. I completely understand paying the cancelation fee which was stated as $100 on opentable, not $230 for an entire person when they didn't cook the food for that portion and will likely be serving it the next day anyways and never stated that prior to us dining which would've been highly appreciated instead of blindsiding us.

Yelp
Decided to try Enigma based on recommendations from friends. We're not fine dining people but heard great things through Toronto Life and decided to try it out for a birthday. The host was very pleasant and guided us to a quiet table by the window. All I can say is that the eight courses served to us as part of their fall menu were incredible. Between shaved truffle on a beef tenderloin or sous vide pork, it was hard to pinpoint a favourite dish. Tomas, the restaurant manager was very kind and attentive and made sure that we felt at ease throughout the entire evening. The staff were also pleasant and the bar manager served us some of the best cocktails I've ever had. On our way out, we had an opportunity to compliment Chef Bennett who you could tell is a master of his craft. They left us some breakfast in a bag for home and listed the menu on a card for us to take home. I highly recommend this place and would love to try their next menu. Bravo!

Yelp
I oddly pass by this small section of town and never venture in. Well, I finally did for a different reason and discovered this restaurant. I got duck pie, fish shepherd pie and some raspberry pistachio cookies. Not bad... average, I guess, but the service was great.

Yelp
This is a cost adjusted rating. For $230/pp the meal needs to compare with Michelin 2+ places and it doesn't. Ambiance and service were good. Cocktails were weak. Wine list had only a couple of mediocre offerings under $100. The starters were weak with a sweetish fruit tart and a cheese and nitrogenized pea dish that just didn't come together. Sea Bream was excellent but broth too sweet. Lobster was excellent but served with a sweet roll like pastry. Salmon and Cornish Hen dishes were world class. The Wagu was tough and under-seasoned (but Maitake great). Weird Elderflower/Sorrel desert tried to mimick the nonsensical pea starter. Doesn't live up to its pretension.

Yelp
This was hands down the best dining experience I've had in Toronto. The food, service, and incredible attention to details makes it world class. I'm super excited to see Toronto raise its game in terms of truly exceptional dining experiences. The level of care the chefs, bartender, and service put into each part of the experience was fantastic! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I have tried a few tasting menus in Toronto and so far, Enigma is my favourite! The food was inventive and delicious, the service was personable and friendly, and it was a great overall experience. Enigma also differentiates itself with great cocktails - I was pleasantly surprised by both the classics and the bartender's new creations. I would highly recommend giving Engima a try!
