"Open since 2001, Enrique’s is an old-school Mexican restaurant in a stripmall in Marina Pacifica. When your cat swallowed string again and needs surgery and you need soul-curing burritos, enchilada combo platters, and gigantic plates of meat, remember this place. If you only get one thing at Enrique’s though, the chile verde is your order. A football-sized pork shank sitting in a hot tub of tomatillo sauce with rice and beans. It’s truly fantastic." - Brant Cox

My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch. The albondigas soup was authentically delicious. My carnitas were a little different but still tasty. Our waitress Sandy was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be coming back next year for our Super Legends Cruise.

Google
New favorite Mexican place in the area. I usually order carne asada to gauge Mexican places and they nailed it. Great cut, super fast service, rice and beans were on point and the chips and salsa were also really tasty. Tables are beautiful as well.

It has been a while since I visited Enrique's. Still the same highly-quality, authentic food and excellent service.

I actually feel bad reviewing this restaurant but I feel for safety people should know. I ordered the Chicken Veracruz. It was a normal wait for the food. When the food came out the waiter was reaching over my son to place my plate and I reached to help put the plate down. As I touched the plate the waiter announced that the plate was hot. When I think of a hot plate, I think of a plate that has been under the warning lamps or out of the dishwasher. This plate was not one of those. It immediately burned me. When I spoke with the manager she said, but of course, they put it into an oven. I have no idea why they would do this as it wasn't more than chicken rice and beans. They did not offer me a warning nor were there any words stating this in their menu. The server acted like he did not even notice my hand was in the glass of ice water and I was crying. The manager made it seem like I should have known somehow. I can't even imagine if I had small children with me. The plate stayed hot for a very long time. No one seemed concerned at all. They acted like nothing was wrong and this is normal. I was quite put off by this. I would not recommend this place to anyone as it was a terrible experience.

Google
I picked this place since we would be in Long Beach and I just assumed it was a little hole in the wall. Boy was I wrong.... Started with the chips and salsa and was impressed by the flavor. Hubby passed since it was loaded with cilantro but I devoured the entire bowl by myself! He asked for spicy salsa and was given a bowl of habanero salsa. Usually when you get something like this it's just FIRE hot but this had great flavor. IF you like heat, ask for it! I initially wanted tacos, beans and rice but I was talked into the Chile Rojo plate. I like a good chile Colorado. The was delicious and I am pretty picky when if comes to the red sauce. The meat was a little dry and I would have liked a little more sauce on the plate but it definitely would be a go to on my next order. The plate came out so hot the red sauce was bubbling like lava! Hubby got the tres taco platter and it was legit! The potato taco was the bomb! SO much food we could not finish our plates! Great restaurant. I was bummed because I wanted a margarita on the rocks but they only carried slushy ones. They have beer, too, but I wasn't in the mood for that. It's close to CSULB and the VA hospital. Definitely glad we tried it.

Google
This is a cute little restaurant with some great Mexican comfort food. The portion sizes are quite large and we ended up only eating half of our plates (that’s okay because we had the other half for dinner). Everyone loved their food. The parking can get competitive but it is worth it.

Google
The food was really good quality but the restaurant was a tad bit musky smelling. I avoided the restroom area because you had a pungent smell. If you go to this restaurant just get seated in the front of the restaurant by the doors and I’m not in the back. The food was very flavorful with a authentic twist.

My intake of fried food decreases so much every year. The chips taste alright and the salsa is tasty. I have to save half the meal for lunch the following day because I get full half way through the meal. There is a decent amount of seating. The customer service is good (in my experience) and the prices are okay. For as much as I've come to experience of the eatery, I think it's a decent eatery providing home-cooked-vibes.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Loved the salsa and fresh chips. Hubby had a combo platter. I had chicken Veracruz. Based on another Yelper's comment, I asked for sautéed spinach instead of rice (trying to reduce carb intake). I tried husband's rice though - really good! Reminds me of homemade where rice is sautéed in seasonings before being boiled. We loved our meals. Also enjoyed frozen Margarita (a classic!) and a glass of Sauv Blanc wine (pairs well with Mexican food, way better than other varietals IMO). Look forward to enjoying more meals here in the future.

Yelp
In business for over 20 years, and they are so consistent and exceptional that they do not even need a sign on the front of their restaurant to be packed all the time! You will crave Enrique's specialties! The cuisine is fresh, authentic and unique. The eggplant appetizer, (gluten-free, vegetarian) the rack of lamb and the chicken avocado soup were all mouth-watering and delicious. I tried the daily-made hibiscus drink, and it was a refreshing treat. I would also highly recommend the homemade flan for dessert. I was surprised that Enrique's is not a new restaurant, as it was so clean and beautiful with pretty pink roses on the tables and comfy booths. Super nice staff. The salsa is the best that we have ever had, and they sell bottles of it at the front of the restaurant. We are now happy regulars.

Yelp
I stopped by Enrique's Mexican restaurant-love the atmosphere, greeted upon opening the door. Service is very nice and prompt. The menu is pretty large and has lots to choose from. I went for the combination 13! Potato taquitos and Chili Relleno. I can't spell! It came with rice and refried beans. Check out this pic of the dish! Chili Relleno was awesome, potato taquitos is great! Epic meal to say the least! Glad I stopped here. If you are in Long Beach on Pacific coast highway stop by for an authentic meal at Enrique's Mexican restaurant!

Yelp
Stopped by Enrique's Mexican Restaurant and tried the asada burrito. It was decent, but I wish it had a bit more spice to really stand out. The real highlight, though, was the service--everyone was super attentive and kind! Plenty of parking, which is always a plus, and the restaurant has a charming, authentic Mexican feel to it. I'll be back to explore more of the menu for sure!

Bev S.

Yelp
We felt lucky to find this spot! The flavors remind me of my mom's delicious meals! The chips & salsa are so good & our soups abondigas & posole the fresh flavors & ingredients were perfection & filled us up!

Russ L.

Yelp
We decided to visit Enrique's, one of our all-time favorites. The Carne en su Jugo was delicious. The beef, the tomatillo sauce, and the bacon all come together to makes this a great dish. We also had Chile Relleno and Chicken Tostada, a very satisfying classic. But the star of the dinner is the Braised Pork Shank. If you're a fan of carnitas, then you'll love the pork shank. This slow-cooked, flavorful meat is juicy falls right off the bone, and blends into a tangy tomatillo sauce. Definitely shareable, otherwise you will have leftovers for the next day. Great and attentive staff. Relax vibe.

Yelp
Customer service Great chips and salsa Comfy, cozy ambience Where do I begin...!? This place has it all! I always say when you go to a restaurant and the appetizer, complementary bread or chips and salsa are pretty tasty; you know the food is going to be good and that is exactly what happened. The salsa is the best salsa I have ever had in my life and the horchata...My goodness! To me, it was not too sweet ;it was just right ! I had the # 15 and it was phenomenal! My favorite item on my plate would have to be the tamal . . Both the masa and the pork had great flavor. With that being said, I suggest you get in your car, ride your bike, walk, better yet run down to Enrique's right now! Promise you won't regret it !

Susan G.

Yelp
Great food every time I go there! Good service and close to my house, so convenient , I have eaten quite a few of there meals over there years and have no complaints! Not even one

Yelp
Enrique's is a smaller Mexican restaurant that serves modern and traditional Mexican dishes. I went here for the first time with some girls for lunch. We were welcomed with complementary chips and salsa which were good. The menu offered a wide variety of options including even vegetarian options. The only thing it lacked was seafood, however, they did have fish and a shrimp cocktail. I went with their chicken enchilada which I found to be rather bland but filled with a lot of meat. The portion was really large and I wasn't able to finish it. You also get the choice of black beans or refried beans. The rice it came with was pretty good. I also tried to order a regular margarita but they only had frozen margaritas. Besides margaritas they only had beer as an alcoholic option. The inside of this place is smaller but good for groups of 4 or less people. The service was pretty good. It did take awhile for them to take our order. Overall, we had fun there but nothing really impressed us.

Yelp
I found this restaurant mention over 900 times on Nextdoor and thought we'd give it a try. Nicely convenient to us and has a parking lot. We were quite thankful to find the food was as good as people proclaimed and the portions were quite large. My husband saw the Lomo Adobado and as we always do at a new place we ordered a combo plate with two crispy carne asada and a chile relleno. The Lomo was a huge portion of pork with tasty onions and peppers served with white rice, whole beans and choice of flour or corn tortillas. The combo had Spanish rice and choice of refried or black beans. The tacos were great and the relleno one of the best we've had. Both the rice and beans had good flavor but a little dry on the beans and a little moist on the rice. Chips and salsa were fresh and excellent. Service was excellent as well. We had Bernardo who kept our waters filled and checked on us just the right amount of times and pace. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
If there was ever a neighborhood spot, Enrique's would be it. The interior is homey - not a ton of frills - and service is incredibly friendly. For my entree, I ordered something called the Chicken Veracruz ($22.25). Chicken Veracruz is a funny dish. It's a piece of marinated charbroiled chicken breast topped with fresh chopped salsa, avocado, olives, and melted cheese served with rice and beans. It resembles an open faced enchilada complete with the olives. And while that may be true, I liked this dish a lot. The chicken breast, though generously portioned, was still nice and tender. On its own, there was plenty of flavor and with all the toppings, the chicken was even better. The entree comes with a side of tortillas, so you can make mini enchilada tacos. I'd recommend topping it with the complimentary salsa for a little more heat. I came for dinner on Friday night and there was a little bit of a wait for two. Enrique's is clearly the neighborhood spot.

Esther R.

Yelp
Food looked amazing, but not quite the best. As I chewed my enchiladas the cheese texture felt gross in my mouth, like very slimy. But give it a try it was probably just me, my husband didn't have anything negative to say about his plate. And no freaken Margaritas!! Like who runs out of Margarita's??? That's the main course on our date nights! Lol

Jesse T.

Yelp
Heard about Enrique's from the local food discussion board. I went looking for good potato tacos and found them and some other goodies. I've enjoyed everything I've ever ordered.

Maddy F.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and the food is consistently good. For this visit however, the service was a bit slow, thus the reason for the 4 stars. However, their Chicken Veracruz is still delicious and I love that you don't have to have it with rice and beans. I'm partial to their sautéed spinach as an alternative and their rice is always perfect. It had been a while since I had been here but it has not changed a bit and I was happy to see that it is still a popular spot.

Al C.

Yelp
3/27/24 It's been a long while since I been to this restaurant but I am probably not going back simply because the menu prices are so high now for a simple dinner. I got the carnitas although I really shouldn't have since I rarely eat pork. I saved half of it for the next day which was a mistake because it tasted so nasty as a leftover, and the chips were totally nasty as well as a leftover. The food here is not worth the higher prices.

Cindy B.

Yelp
Salsa! Chunky salsa! Delicious salsa! My "taste bud" and I finally stopped by Enrique's to see what all the hype is about, and we immediately knew from the first bite of complimentary chips and salsa that everything else would be excellent as well. Combo #6, Trio de Taquitos, hit the spot with one each of chicken, beef, and potato taquitos. Treat yourself to ordering the guacamole as well; you won't be disappointed. My partner had Combo #13, two potato taquitos with a chile relleno, and this was a perfect dish for those that had to skip meat on Fridays for a spell. Service was friendly from the start, and all our requests were met in a timely manner. This is a cozy, family-run establishment where you will be greeted and escorted out with a smile. Don't forget to say bye to the cocineros! Oh, and make sure to check out the (spotless) restroom. The, uh, mirror situation is quite interesting ... yee-haw!

Yelp
Another 5 star review for my favorite restaurant in town. Whenever I don't feel like cooking (which is more often than not these days LOL), this place is my go to. My ex used to order the pork shank so now that's one of my favs to get- plus there's always leftovers because they give you so much food! And it tastes just as good, if not better the next day. Also the cheesecake- best kept secret in LB. it's is to die for. The service here is spectacular- they are consistent, kind, and efficient. Been coming here for years and they will always have my business! I need to try their new taqueria, Kikke's next door... looks sooo tasty! I'm in the mood for something spicy. Taco date anyone?! ;)

Craig S.

Yelp
Best service from white shirt waiters, cloth napkins and the best poblano chili relleno in town. Those restaurants that use anaheim chili don't deserve a one star rating.

jeannie j.

Yelp
Fabulous!!!! As always ... Food,Staff , you name it. They are wonderful. If you haven't been you're missing out.

Kimberly S.

Yelp
I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars, because it's 5 stars for what it's supposed to be. The salsa is to die for! The refried beans are wonderful. The combinations are flavorful, very tasty, and they give you gigantic portions. The To-Go service is impeccable, sit down inside the restaurant is very good. Cute little restaurant in a nondescript strip mall, but they pack a wallop compared to the bigger Americanized Mexican food franchises. Not quite taqueria meat choices (I don't think of ground beef and chicken breast as typical Mexican fare...there's the Americanized part), but their carnitas and carne asada are good.

Daniel R.

Yelp
I had the pozole, chile relleno and beef enchilada. Everything was damn delicious! I'll be back!

Ingrid C.

Yelp
We had the pork with chile verde that was so tender and finger licking good! It's a cozy place with friendly attentive servers and nice owners. We will be returning soon as it's close to Long Beach State.

Debra S.

Yelp
Great !! Always good food , good portions and decent prices !! Still can get my 'chicken avocado' soup for 6$ or so . Service is on time n courteous, polite n friendly!!! Location perfect for me close to home , ambiance very nice , generally quiet inside . Love the fact it's family run establishment

Kate L.

Yelp
Yes! This neighborhood spot is a must dine!! The price, value, and quantity is a steal. Lamb lollipop special: grill to a juicy medium. The lamb is not gamy, well seasoned. Queso Fundido: gooey yummy cheese dip. It's good even when it's cooled Salsa and Chips: best. The salsa is good on everything Mushroom Quesadilla: surprisingly good. The mushrooms gives the dish a light earthy that lighten up the cheese Service, friendly & quick I love the family vibe to the restaurant.

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Had great service and meal with friends visiting from Japan who wanted to try Mexican food. They had fun and couldn't believe the portions. It was a great first time Mexican meal that they will remember. Honestly. The chicken burrito wasn't very good. Dry, bland. My daughter didn't eat. Guac seemed almost brown too watery - not what I remember from years prior. However, the guests had fun and service good.

Curt C.

Yelp
So good! Live in Tustin, visit Enrique's on occasion. The best chili rellenos. Chill verde burrito, enchiladas, tacos, beans, rice, salsa...all great. Generous portions and attentive service. No complaints...none. A bit of a drive, but got to visit this wonderful family owned restaurant more often.

Andrew H.

Yelp
I've never had a bad meal at this place, every time is delicious! The chicken paella is the best and you really can't go wrong with it. Chips and salsa are also delicious. Enchiladas and tacos are great as well. That's pretty much what I order all the time. Love it!

Vicki R.

Yelp
Muy Bueno!! Great food & Great service. We will be back to check out other dishes & the Pork Shank!

OG B.

Yelp
Great lunch today. Excellent service and friend loved their salsa. I had a chile verde tamal and beef taco, both delicious. Little noisy due to construction outside but place looking much better with new facade and finishing. Highly recommend for good Mexican cuisine.

Bob W.

Yelp
Only blended margaritas, no rocks? But large very tasty carne asada burrito! So flavorful, good proportions meat/rice/cheese/beans

Mike F.

Yelp
Enrique's is in a little shopping center and is completely unsuspecting. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and once your inside it's a small Mexican restaurant with a family feel. No frills or fancy decor. It's not needed. We arrived for an early dinner around 5pm or 5:30pm and we're seated immediately. It seems they traded fancy decor for astounding food. I wanted fajitas which I didn't see on the menu, but I asked and the waiter said it wouldn't be a problem to make. It didn't come out on the typical cast iron skillet, but that didn't matter. These were some of the most flavorful fajitas I have ever had, the beans were so tasty and cheesy; not dry like a lot of places serve. The chips and salsa are served as soon as you are seated and are delicious as well. It's a bit on the pricey side, with many entrees averaging around $20 a plate but the portion sizes are large and make up for the cost.

Donna B.

Yelp
Last week a friend brought me a taco salad and I loved it so much I decided to go back myself. I ordered another taco salad for myself and the burrito for a friend. As you can see the portion sizes are huge and too much for one sitting which is a plus. My order was to go but next time I think I will dine in. It's located in a strip plaza off PCH with plenty of parking.

Don L.

Yelp
Good food, poor customer service. We ordered takeout - 4 chicken tostada salads for dinner today. The employee who answered the phone and took the order was unprofessional. My wife had to elicit confirmation of the order from him, and he did not give a time it would be ready or any other information. He should provide such information voluntarily and without prompting. Additionally, we received no salsa with our order. Thus, minus two stars for poor customer service.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Good food, service and atmosphere! The salsa didn't look like the salsa we have on the east coast, but it was delicious!

Woody B.

Yelp
Dry food and overpriced for beans and rice . Decorating looks old and dated ,booths are hard and dirty . Owners have such an attitude . Food was very average.

J J.

Yelp
We were wondering if Enrique's changed ownership. This Mexican restaurant used to be our favorite. We ordered two different dishes and both were extremely bland. The food tasted as though they forgot to add salt. It was horrible.

Susan V.

Yelp

Yelp
I had never tried Mexican food before (I know, was the pickiest eater on this planet) and I decided to give this place a go. I got steak enchiladas with red sauce - they came with a side of refried beans and rice. I love how cheesy they were (i love cheese) and i found the enchiladas really good! They also serve complimentary chips with salsa.

Matt T.

Yelp
Get the pork shank. Everyone in my family loves it. Kiddos, mom & dad, grandparents. You're welcome!

Sam R.

Yelp
Great food and service and I will be back soon I had the enchiladas and they were very good plus the salsa is very good too

Frank S.

Yelp
We love Enrique's. They closed K Pasta and opened a new taco place. Did they sell Enrique's??? The food was not as amazing at it usually is.

Chad B.

Yelp
Best ceviche, best guacamole, best enchiladas, definitely come here because it's amazing!

Mike C.

Yelp
So I'm car pooling to a work meeting and my associate goes "I've got this great Mexican restaurant with killer Carne Asada". So the journey starts. The next night my wife and I are there to check it out. So story goes this place has been here forever, family owned and authentic fare. the restaurant is clean, but the tables chairs are dated and well used. The booths seem to have been re-upholstered and are comfy. The wait staff are friendly and helpful, although they seemed a bit distracted during the time of my visit. So while the Carne ASada was recommended, I opted for the special of the day, chilean sea bass with a Chile Relleno on the side becuase that's my jam right there. The fish was fresh, perfectly cooked and presented. The surprise was the rice! The Spanish Rice, they call it Paella, was delicioso! The Chile Relleno as well as on point and rivals my friend's mom's cooking, which is my favorite Mexican cook. For now, I will give it 5 stars until I get a chance to sample the oh so recommended carne asada or carnitas. so...I'll be back!

Chong Y.

Yelp
PROS: - Chips and salsa here are addictive! - The employees and servers are awesome. - The food portions are very generous. - DO TRY their pork shank if they have it available. It's off menu. - The food here is pretty bomb. CONS: - The parking lot can get very packed if you're here during peak hours. - The restaurant seating is very limited inside.

Shelby L.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in LB by far! Friendly staff and excellent food! We love this place!

Deb V.

Yelp
Stopped here after visiting a friend close by. The first thing I noticed was the kind service, they were very nice and warm. The waitress helped me to order and told me the pork verde was their specialty. I ordered the pork verde burrito no sauce. My friend ordered the beef burrito with red enchilada sauce. Both were delicious, fresh and the burrito held together, not soggy at all. The refried beans in the burrito were perfect. The salsa was homemade and delicious. I hope to return if I'm in the area.

Toshi I.

Yelp
I heard about Enriques by a local. This looks like an OG popular place to chow. We opted to sit outside in the converted parking lot/patio. I ordered the soup Pozole Rojo con Polla y Puerco since I love pozole! It was really hearty and perfect. The service was excellent and friendly. Plenty of strip mall parking. Will be back!

Jay L.

Yelp
Meh. Place used to be bomb! It's average at best. Got the large cheese quesadilla. No sour cream. No guacamole. No pico de gallo. Just a lil lettuce on a hot plate. Cheese enchiladas tasted good but the plate used to be covered in rice and beans with the combo and now it's not close. Not saying it's bad but it's not great like it used to be.

Massoum S.

Yelp
I was back in Long Beach after a few years and had to go back to my favorite restaurant. The food was still excellent, great service as always. This is a family owned restaurant with the owner often in the kitchen and his wife running the front of the house... I strongly recommend it... great prices too!
