The Best Restaurants in Katy | Eater Houston

"This family-owned restaurant is known for its Turkish cuisine, featuring kebabs, mezze, and yogurt-marinated mixed grills. The kofte, grilled ground beef and lamb meatballs seasoned with spices, is a good place to start. An education in Turkish cuisine is not complete without an order of two of traditional desserts. Try the keskul, a rice flour-based milk pudding with almonds, or the sutlac, a rice pudding garnished with cinnamon." - Minh Truong

If you're a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, this place is an absolute gem. Every bite bursts with authentic flavor and freshness — it's like a mini vacation to the Mediterranean coast. The quality, the spices, the balance… simply on point. I’ve had my fair share of Mediterranean food, but this one truly stands out. Highly recommended for food lovers seeking something real and memorable.

This is a small and cozy place, very friendly atmosphere. The interior style and the Turkish music playing in the background made me feel like I’m in Turkey. The staff is very kind and the service they gave was amazing. The complimentary bread was fresh. It was crunchy on the outside, very soft and hot from the inside. I got Ciger (Beef Liver) as the hot appetizer, it came with cut onions and lemon. It tasted fresh and flavorful (I would say in the top 3 comparing to other Turkish restaurants in Houston area). As soon as I finished with my appetizer, they brought my main meal which was a Mix Grill. The Mix Grill could use more salt but overall I was impressed. The Beef Kebab and the Ground Beef Kebab was very tasty. The Beef Kebab was very soft and it was cooked perfectly. They Gyro was very fresh, it seemed like they just cut it for me. The Chicken Kebab is what surprised me a lot. It was marinated very good, it was very soft and juicy. The service was really good. They helped as soon as I sat down. They brought the complimentary bread right away. Helped me with the menu, answered few questions. They would come and take the empty plates as soon as I pit them aside. Great service, food came out fast and fresh, and the price was very reasonable. Overall my experience here was amazing. I really recommend it.

Google
The food is some of the best Turkish Mediterranean that I've had in a very long time. EXCELLENT flavor on the chicken, cooked to perfection. The staff were kind and quick and pretty attentive to things like our water and asking us how the food was. The chicken shish was the best, followed by the lamb chops, beef (filet mignon), and finally the gyro. The fries were well seasoned, the complementary bread was dense and well baked, and the veggies provided were yummy. Finally, the kunefe was incredible, some of the best I've had. I almost cried at the table from how good it was. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, pull-apart with a tasty syrup over a soft cheese. It hit the spot and was exactly what I was looking for (and more). I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Mediterranean! Pretty decently priced, too!

Google
This restaurant is still going strong. Still same owner so same, excellent food and service. I won't comment too much on the dishes, just know that it is good traditional middle Eastern foods. But what I will harp on is that this is one of the extremely few places in Houston that serves Kunafa, and understands that it must be made to order so that it can be served HOT. It's no good if even 10 or 15 minutes have passed since it's making. Super yum, the Kunafa is here, and well worth the drive from almost anywhere to get it.

Google
Great food big portions ! Great service too!! They bring a basket of bread to start you off . I had gyro platter with delicious rice and pickled cabbage grilled veggies and we had some hummus with pita bread which both were fantastic! They brought us some baklava for dessert as a gift it was absolutely delicious they serve it warm it was so good and very nice of them. Made with pistachios and honey very yummy!!

Google
This was our first time here. We received amazing service. The staff was very attentive. Everything we ordered was good. The food did have a different taste than what I'm used to, but I feel it's due to being more authentic. Everyone has different preferences for the spices they use. Overall I enjoyed the food. Different..but good.

Google
The food was good and the atmosphere was enjoyable. We were not served any water until we had to ask for water to drink during the meal. The pita bread was better than most.

Google
All the food is very tasty and the taste is consistance. The chicken and the gyro in the mixed grill are the best! Sooo good!! Even the rice is tasty. Thank you.

Yelp
I've been going to Ephesus now for over 3 years. If you are looking for authentic quality Mediterranean food this is the place to go to. Service is always excellent and very attentive to everyone. Small restaurant, but Friendly environment. I recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a Mediterranean meal to eat in Katy.

Yelp
An Authentic Turkish Delight! If you're craving delicious and authentic Turkish cuisine, look no further than Ephesus Mediterranean Grill. Memo and his father treat everyone like family. The best Turkish food in the Houston area!

Yelp
KATY, TX 77450 / TURKISH, MEDITERRANEAN/ 12-08-23 / LUNCH +The ground lamb kabob was pretty good. +The shepherd salad and mixed green salad was excellent. -The chicken kabob was a bit overcooked. -The restrooms and restaurant needs to be updated.

Yelp
Always a treat and the wait staff is exceptionally attentive. This is a quite little place with great food. Got the Grilled combo and a bottle of wine recommended by the owner to share family style. As fellow food service industry owner so I know how much impact online reviews can make and at the same time, I rely heavily on Yelp reviews when selecting places to try for my own personal choices so I try to be fair and send good reviews when deserved while pointing out specifics for improvement that the owners can use as feedback. this place makes the extra effort for service and quality and I highly recommend you give them a try.

Yelp
My friend from grad school who lives in Katy introduced my friend and I to this Mediterranean restaurant. It's sort of hidden off I-10 but was so good! The restaurant itself is small with limited decor. It's all about the food anyway! I love eggplant, so I ordered the babaghanoush. It was delicious with their fresh pita. I had the filet mignon kebabs, and they were flavorful and tender. I would love to try their lamb chops next time. The Turkish tea in the small, traditional clear glass with a sugar cube was perfect to end the meal along with the knafeh dessert. My friend ordered it for the table for us to try. I had never heard of it or had it before. Baklava is usually offered at most Mediterranean restaurants. The knafeh is topped with pistachios and is sweet, cheesy, and crispy. You can see all the layers when you cut into it. Delicious! Service was great, and they regularly checked in to make sure everything was to our liking like the cook on the meat and if we liked the dessert. I'll be back with friends!

Yelp
I came here recently after being unimpressed years ago, and it was a pretty good experience this time. I'd heard good things, so it was worth another visit. I will say, the cigarette smell wafting from the bar next door makes dining in less enjoyable, but not sure anything can be done about that. I ordered the ground chicken kebab and it came with two kebabs, rice, and veggies. The meat was flavorful and juicy, and I liked the side of cabbage. My favorite part of the meal was the pita bread with the babagannus and ezme. I've never had ezme before--basically a nutty tomato spread--and it was so delicious! It almost had a slight smokiness to it. Our server was nice and the food didn't take long to come out. Overall I'd recommend Ephesus for Turkish food.
google avatar

J Z.

Yelp
I'm sorry but there is no Mediterranean flavor in any of the food The chicken kebab had a weird taste and smell The salad was so bland and lifeless The hummus was super earthy dirt tasting no amount of salt gave it flavor And whatever cabbage side that was was also lackluster I tried I was so hungry the only thing that was good was the pita bread. I tried so hard to eat it but I had to get up and leave I did pay for it in full Didn't even ask for a refund that's how bad it was I just felt so bad for them. I'm still hungry and now I'll just pick something up to go somewhere ‍‍‍‍‍

Yelp
I can't tell you how much this place is like home to me. From the fresh hummus to the hot tea served with sugar cubes, it screams authenticity ... quietly. Everything I've tried here is tasty. The chargrilled tomatoes they serve on the side of every entree are always fresh and burnt just right. The owners are friendly and attentive. Try it all. It's been fresh without fail for over four years now. The parking lot looks a bit tattered, but you're in good hands at Ephesus. Any of the kabob plates are a great place to start.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Just had a meal there but my wife started having diarrhea and I bloated tummy. It could have been one the five vegetarian appetizers (suspecting tabbouleh) or the chicken kabob that wasn't cooked properly. They might have a new owner. It smells like smoke inside the dining area due to lack of ventilation. However, their baklava is really good.
google avatar

Bob R.

Yelp
Great food. Intimate dining room with a nice ambiance. Red lentil soup, the bread, the liver appetizer and the gyro kabob plate are some my favorites. The chicken kabob always comes hot and moist and it is my wife's go to plate. Don't forget to have the baklava for desert. Service is always efficient and comfortable, very friendly.

Nathan S.

Yelp
Food has been amazing every time we went. Wife and I always get the Sigara Boregi as an appetizer, share the mixed grill platter, and finish with Turkish black tea and a desert of kunefe (sometimes 2). Never had a bad experience. Owners are amazing and always welcoming.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place for us to have lunch at today. The place is in a quiet plaza on Mason Rd and across the street there is like a fast food version of this place is. When we walked into the restaurant, it was pretty quiet since we showed up at 1:30ish. They have a lunch menu that goes from 11am-3pm. I got the chicken kabob sandwich which is a wrap and it came with a red lentil soup. First of all, the red lentil soup was so delicious and creamy. The menu said that they added tomato paste so maybe that is where the creamy is coming from. I loved it! My chicken kabob sandwich was so yummy as well. It had fresh cucumber, tomato and lettuce with well-done chicken cubes and the yogurt sauce. The pita bread of freshly made and each bite was heaven. I end up ordering the same meal for my husband to go because he deserves to experience this restaurant. I highly recommend it and I will be back.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Food was delicious! We had lamb and beef. Good portions and the rice had great flavor. Baklava is out of this world also. Recommended 100% Our server was very helpful and attentive.
google avatar

Sheila N.

Yelp
It's quite like a hole in the wall, unassuming kind of place. However, I really impress w the service and food. It's quite a good deal if you get the lunch specials. I will come back and recommend this place to my friends.

Jinan A.

Yelp
We ordered chicken kebab, and while the chicken was okay, the rice was horrible. The lentil soup was bad, the zatar to dip with bread was also not good. I won't go back for sure.
google avatar

Janae T.

Yelp
First impression was a little rough but we gave it a chance based off of previous reviews. This place did not disappoint. We had grape leaves, falafel, the assorted meat plate with rice followed by baklava and everything was very authentic and delicious. The service was also very gracious. Will definitely return

Ashton W.

Yelp
Not bad got the chicken not worth 16$ but it's was okay I don't like the noodles in the rice and the rice is super over cooked
google avatar

Rene S.

Yelp
Unfortunately with so many 5 star reviews...my vote is that it was just okay. The hummus was lacking in flavor, same with the gyro meat. The feta cheese plate was a waste of 6 bucks...few tiny slices of feta, 7 slices of black olives (canned?), and couple slices of thin cucumbers. The yogurt (or tzatziki) was good and the ground chicken kabob was fantastic...so much flavor & very moist. The pita bread was nice a fluffy. If I am craving gyro meat I would go elsewhere for now...but again, that ground chicken was to die for.
google avatar

Zen J.

Yelp
The place itself is unassuming. The sign outside is broken, interior was mediocre at best. But I decided to try it out anyway. And I'm glad I did. The food was fantastic. The owner/host was friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed the kebabs . Realty well done. The chicken was especially juicy and flavorful. Five stars!
google avatar

Kirsten D.

Yelp
It was good. The salad and the Babaganoush were my favorite along with the super fluffy pita bread. The falafel sandwhich was disappointing. It had absolutely no flavor. Couldn't taste any parsley or even the chickpeas. I added the Babaganoush to add some flavor which helped some but I still ended up having to add salt to my sandwich which was weird. I've never had to do that. As I was ending my meal I was offered rice pudding for it being my first time here. It was creamy and thick. The pudding to rice ratio was on the high side, more pudding than rice but it had good flavor. It was room temp though and I'm not sure if that's how it should be. I'd prefer either hot or cold to be honest but I really do appreciate the gesture. To be honest, the service here is great. The guy serving the whole restaurant was constantly going around making sure everyone was taken care of. Drinks were filled, orders taken, inquiring about the meal. It was nice. I take off the one star because of the falafel. Maybe I need to try the meat dishes as those seem to get the best response from diners. I will be coming back, not sure when, and I'll update my review then.

Yelp
Sooooo good! As pricey as any Mediterranean restaurant but so worth it. Consistency is key. Loved the lamb pops and their hummus is the bomb! Authentic and perfect!!!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best Mediterranian meals I've ever had. Every single item I ate was other worldly. My gf and I loved every bite. Falafel- 5/5, maybe best I've ever had Grape leaves- 5/5 Hummus - 4/5 Babaganoush- 5/5 Kofte- 10/5, best I've had Almond pudding 5/5 Service was amazing, place is super cute on the inside. If you have tried it, you are missing out on a gem!

Yelp
Great find. Great Turkish food with a smile. Followed the Yelp reviews and got this beauty on Mason. Went for lunch but skipped the lunch menu and went for the main menu. Appetizers with mixed grill. It was very very good.
google avatar

Naz G.

Yelp
Average at best. Staff was attentive and nice but the food was below average. Bread appeared to be re-heated store bought pitta bread. Disappointed. Won't be going back.

Adam M.

Yelp
Wonderful. Staff is fantastic. We visit every two weeks for a meeting here and they memorized our orders.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious spot for Mediterranian food. I've come here a few times now & never had a bad experience! As an appetizer, I highly recommend the hummus to share for the table. My go to order is the lunch special 1. I would try the red lentil soup with whichever entree you choose - it's warm & flavorful! I usually order the lamb sis kebab, which is served over rice. Service at Ephesus has always been excellent as well. This is a great little spot for a tasty lunch in Katy!
google avatar

Emma C.

Yelp
I literally love this place so much. The food is amazing. They have filet steak and it's probably the most perfectly cooked medium well steak i've ever had. Never disappoints. Also the bed of rice that they put under ur meat is literally the best rice i've ever had, they somehow cook everything perfectly, at least the way i like it. Also if you want appetizers they have a cucumber yogurt, soooo yummy. I also like the humus. LOVE LOVE LOVE
google avatar

Jay J.

Yelp
We've had Ephesus delivered multiple times for lunch and I always get the same thing... The Gyro. Every time my coworker asks what I want from there, I get a nice feeling of excitement for what's to come. It is definitely my favorite... except I don't know if something else would take it's place because I always end up ordering the gyro despite my want for a new delight. Aside from the gyro, it comes with a salad that they must toss in something addictive because I always want more... Enjoy!

Vicki S.

Yelp
Food is outstanding Owners are wonderful Any time in Katy , I try and stop in for a excellent meal

Yelp
We've dined here for years. Wonderful food, Great service, always a pleasure. Best baklava around.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Called and spoke to manager about ordering takeout be wise I have food allergies and I'm in the area for a conference. Mediterranean is usually safe for me, meat and vegetables a d I'm good to go. He was completely rude and told me if I "was that worried I shouldn't order from him. So I didn't and I recommend no one else orders from him either.
google avatar

Anette A.

Yelp
This dish and kofta is amazing... we finished our plate, it is perfect for 3 people. The server was so sweet, he was good with serving and talking:) Overall, the rice, was ghee rice and it was great.... we loved the food, I enjoyed till the last bite.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible place! Delicious food!!! The server who took my order was extremely polite. Will definitely return again.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! From the moment you walk in, it feels like you are in a Turkish household! The atmosphere is inviting, the staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming, and the food is absolutely spectacular! We started with an order of Baba Ganoush. It was so flavorful. It was served with fresh warm pita, and the combination was extraordinary. Each bite felt like I was eating a dish whose recipe had been passed down for generations. Next, we had the mixed grill with the Shepards Salad. There were a few different kinds of meat, and each one was just as good as the next. Cooked to perfection, juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The grilled veggies that came with it were also so fresh and extremely good. The Shepherd Salad was fresh, light, and refreshing, especially on a hot summer day! It was just what we needed. This meal was perfect. For dessert, homemade baklava. One of the best ones i've ever had. It is highly recommended. Plus, you didn't feel guilty eating this as a dessert. All in all, this meal transported us thousands of miles to Turkey. We highly enjoyed our experience, and learned a lot about Turkish history from our wonderful host. I cannot recommend this place enough, and we will most certainly be repeat customers!
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Excellent Mediterranean food served in a pleasant setting by friendly, hospitable owners. Quality has been consistent over 10+ yrs. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Regina B.

Yelp
Great lunch! The chicken and regular gyros were so good. The shepard salad was alsi very good.
google avatar

Karyn K.

Yelp
I look forward to experiences at non-chain establishments and saw this joint had great Yelp reviews.. so while in the hood, made a beeline for Ephesus. For the low down: Restaurant tucked in a strip mall and situated in-between a bakery and bar. Unfortunate part of this is, the faint aroma of cigarettes from the bar lingered into restaurant :-( Restaurant decor and setting is simple, open yet intimate. Beyond EXCEPTIONAL Service and Pride! Cuisine - Falafel appetizer was nice. The lentil soup was ok but a tad bland. The doner/gyro plate was ok and the cabbage rolls were good but a tad mushy (took me back to my childhood). To sum it up.. it was good but for my personal experience.. it unfortunately wasn't the memorable experience that many others described that I sooooo hoped for. Regardless - I enjoyed my visit and wish Ephesus continued success.

Nadir H.

Yelp
Very warm and welcoming place and Ayub(eyub) has the best customer service. They patiently answered our questions on the menu. There was some nice middle eastern music as well and people constantly flowed in an out with a steady stream of Togo orders. We ordered the small appetizer plate, hummus tasted different than at Fadis and Zoe's; the Ezme was a happy surprise, so much so that the wife decided to take an extra Togo; babaganush and spicy eggplant were eatable. Chicken kabob was decent. It has that particular taste which reminds of you of an old local mom and pop restaurant. Served over a decent quantity bed of rice and tomatoes. They also surprised us with some nice complementary Rice putting with cinnamon.
google avatar

Katherine L.

Yelp
We had a great lunch. There is a full menu and a prix fix menu which we used. I got a delicious lentil soup & vegetable stew with a side order of eggplant dip. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his salad & gyro plate with a side of stuffed grape leaves. Our appetizers did come from the main menu. The price was very good and service was excellent. We will definitely drive the 12 miles from our house to eat here again.
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
I was craving Mediterranian food, new to Katy area I wanted to try out local restaurant in our area. My bf and I got the combination with 4 types of meat. Yum all flavors were good. Waiter was fast quick. Sorry we came back he before closing. Great food..
google avatar

Dk N.

Yelp
I enjoy finding hole in the wall restaurants like this that do quality work. The staff were always attentive. I had the combination grilled meats. The taste and presentation didn't disappoint at all. Very savory, tasty, and mouth watering. Finally, you have to get the Turkish hot tea, comes in this unique tea pitcher, very artsy.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. The waiter shared lots of good info on specials and things. We loved a couple lunch specials that they do 7 days a week from 11 am to 3 pm. You get a soup or salad option with one hot entrée or a soup or salad with two cold appetizers. My wife ordered the ground chicken kabob with lentil soup, i went with the filet mignon steak kabobs with the salad, everything was amazing. Tender tasty mignon and chicken, some of the best lentil soup we've ever tried. We will be back! We had some very good coffee here. They brought us a free rice dessert which we loved....tasted like a cross between rice pudding and crème brule.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Turkish food hands down no questions about it. The place is kind of hard to find. You can't really see it from Mason, but it is in the back of the plaza. There is plenty of parking. The place is clean and the staff is absolutely fantastic. The home made bread come out warm and delicious, make sure you save room for the main course. Do not over load yourself with bread. I ordered the filet mignon with lam chop. The filet mignon is season and marinate perfectly. The marinate is not over power you can still taste the sweetness of the beef. The lam chop was season with dry spice and the grilled to the perfect. You just pick it up and bite into it. It's absolutely delicious and the quality of the filet mignon is just as good as them have in the fancy five stars restraunt. And it is half of what they charge. The dish came with slice onions season with salt and pepper, pickle relish and grill green pepper and grill tomatoes. Perfect in every way. Ephesus is definitely one my favorite Mediterranean restaurants. Good food and good service and good bargain.
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
The best steak in town by far that is halal. It is fantastic and the service is real good. Please support them!!!!
google avatar

Ashkan R.

Yelp
The second we stepped in, we were met with great service, friendly staff, and an amazing experience Ordered the Kofte which was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Hummus and bread were the cherry on top! The staff were constantly keeping us satisfied by refilling our drinks and tea, our bread, and our appetizers. Fantastic food and an even better experience.
google avatar

Drew W.

Yelp
We've been going to Ephesus for over 10 years now, the food is always excellent and very clean. Only comment is sometimes you can smell the cigarette smoke from the kitchen.
google avatar

Jay S.

Yelp
Walked in, pretty excited for Mediterranean food and turned around and walked out due to the overwhelming smell of cigarettes. Can only rate this restaurant based on appearance and smell, did not order any food.. Sorry!
google avatar

Audrey M.

Yelp
Excellent food and excellent customer service. We were immediately greeted by a friendly server and had the option to sit anywhere we liked. Menu was straight forward and rice plates are the way to go. I ordered a chicken kabob plate that comes with rice, grilled tomato, a slice of green bell pepper, onions and pickled red cabbage. The rice was DELICIOUS. And I know what good rice is because I am Asian and ate it for close to three decades-almost on a daily basis. It was flavorful and perfectly cool! Not dry or bland! The pickled cabbage was okay, it added a good contrast to the flavors in the dish, but I am not much for pickled cabbage in general. It wasn't mushy or dried out...had a well-balanced profile of tartness. Also was crunchy! The chicken kabob was truly the star of the plate. It was perfectly cooked and executed right. The inside was still juicy and moist, but thoroughly cooked! Flavor was on point. I would have to say it's the best chicken kabob I've tasted thus far. This dish is filling. The amount of protein on the plate is great! I was able to take half of my dish home, it was that filling. Lastly, the baklava...it is $5 for a single piece that is cut into four smaller pieces. Oh man. It is flaky, buttery, sweet (but not overly!!!), crumbly due to the pistachios, and just melts in your mouth! I would recommend this! Better than the baklavas sold in other Greek chain restaurants!!!! I always disliked how most are super sweet. This baklava allows you to taste the well-balance flavors of the philo layers/crust, creaminess of honey and other spices plus the texture of the pistachios. Get it. You won't be disappointed and you probably won't want to share. This place is a hidden gem in the heart of Katy. The dining room is kept clean, there is a prevalent cigarette stench from the bar next door; a pity!! The restrooms are small but overall kept fairly clean. Parking wasn't too bad, but the plaza is fairly small so if it's busy, you may have a little bit of trouble finding parking.
