Best Poke in Austin | Eater Austin

"Another casual poke spot, this time in the St. Johns neighborhood. Epic’s offerings include customizable or signature bowls with bases (including sweet potato noodles); proteins like ahi tuna, spicy salmon, or shrimp; and all sorts of vegetables. Takeout orders can be placed online." - Elizabeth Leader Smith

Google
I found this spot by chance while looking for healthier food options near my work and I am SO glad I did!!! My food was fresh, GENEROUSLY portioned, reasonably priced, and tasted immaculate. I placed a pick up order and not only was it ready early, but the gentleman who gave me my order had immaculate customer service. He was quick, kind, and overall made me feel very welcomed/taken care of. Pretty sure I just found my go-to work lunch spot.

Always amazing! I come here a couple of times a month and it never disappoints. Consistently high quality, packed with flavor—hands down one of the best poke spots in the city!

Google
Rating: 4.2/5 We came in about half an hour before closing, so the store was empty. They were out of unagi, so we built our own poke bowl ($17.95). The bowl was a generous size, but the portion of fish was noticeably small. For the base, we chose sweet potato noodles and mixed greens--the noodles were well-seasoned and had a great texture. For protein, we picked ahi tuna and salmon, both of which were fresh and tasty. However, the fish-to-toppings ratio felt off, with much more filler than fish. We added all the mix-ins and paid an extra $2.95 for avocado, which was fresh, ripe, and delicious. We also selected all the toppings. For dressing, we went with mango aloha and wasabi mayo--surprisingly, they paired well together. We also paid $2.75 for an extra side of spicy teriyaki dressing, which came in a large container and had a solid kick. Overall, the poke bowl was delicious, but the light hand on the fish made it feel a bit overpriced.

Google
Very quick service, and the best bowl I’ve ever had! The rice is so yummy, the sweet potato noodles are warm, and the tofu is perfect! I highly recommend the ginger sauce. Only a couple things aren’t gluten free (I’m gluten free), and it’s all clearly marked!

Google
Elite quality ingredients - easily one of the best poke places in Austin. Friendly service as well!

Google
Really love this place. I like to stop after work sometimes and it’s such a treat at the end of a long day or week. Their ingredients are always super fresh, the sauces delicious, portions great, and I love that it’s very customizable. I really enjoy that you order via kiosk as I’m terrible about being indecisive and this takes away that awkward “staring at the menu while the person is waiting for you to order” interaction 😂. I can stare at the menu as long as I need to 😁 the staff has always been very nice, the place is super cute inside. I rave about this place and tell my friends to go here whenever they’re craving poke.

Google
Epic Poke is hands down the best spot for fresh, delicious, and healthy poke in Austin. I come here with my boyfriend all the time! The ingredients are incredibly fresh, the portions are generous, and the flavors are absolutely perfect. The staff is friendly, and the service is quick, making it the ideal place for a satisfying meal. If you’re a fan of poke or just looking for a healthy dining option, Epic Poke is a must visit!

Google
We found out when we entered that you do NOT order at the counter, but instead, you must order through an online kiosk, in the front of the store. Then they bring the food to your table. I ordered the OG Rice Bowl, which is listed as their most popular dish. He ordered a chicken and shrimp bowl. We also each ordered a bottle of iced tea. With the tip, our cost was more than $52.00, which was really expensive for this type of atmosphere, where you order from a kiosk! Then when I got my bowl and started to eat, I quickly realized that the salmon and tuna was raw, which was NOT listed on the board, or mentioned anywhere at all. I have eaten raw fish in the past but, I prefer to never eat raw fish. The flavor on the salad was good, so I ate about 1/2 to 2/3 of the food. After I left I had indigestion. This was NOT a good experience.

Yelp
When I moved to Austin, Epic Poke was one of the first places I had wanted to go to grab a bite to eat. But it was a Sunday, so they were closed. But then, later on in the week, I was able to order one of their poke bowls through their website. Since then, I've had the opportunity to eat here and introduce others to this establishment countless times. Their menu has changed over time, but they have stayed very consistent with their ingredients and preparation. For protein, they offer tuna and salmon, chicken and shrimp, tofu, and recently, unagi. Other than protein, each bowl comes with a healthy serving of a variety of colorful veggies and crunchy bits, glass noodles, and rice. You can also opt to add additional toppings or extra protein. The bowls have some weight to them and are filling. The owners are friendly enough to recognize you and learn your name if you come here enough. The seating area for eating in is quite cozy. A large mural of Austin adorns one of the walls, and potted plants hang out by the windows. If you're looking at this place solely for poke, their rendition of poke might not be anything particularly special compared to places specializing in creating different flavor variants of poke. But overall, the consistency in their combination of preparation of ingredients and the care used to construct their bowls, makes this place a solid option for a satisfying meal.

Yelp
If you are from California like me, this is just okay poke. It's not bad, but nothing to rave about in my opinion. I was visiting Austin on a work trip, was trying to keep it light, and this was a quick drive from the office. The fish was okay (I wish there was more), the sauces were okay (I should have gotten extra), and the rice was not sushi rice? Interesting. It was good/okay. So that's why I gave it 3 stars. I don't really know what else to say about it.
google avatar

Yelp
Epic is right. Don't let their tiny sign - yes, folks, fix it - keeps you away. Had a custom poke bowl and wow was it great. Fresh ingredients. Great taste. My son loved his, too! We'll be back.

Yelp
The portions are large, and it's worth around $40 for two. They also have a keto bowl too. I love to make my own bowl. I really like all options they have like the jalapeño is nice and spicy and the crispy onion and nori and seaweed just makes everything go well together. I got the salmon and tuna and they were cut into nice cubes size. I do wish they have more fish options but it was delicious.
google avatar

Cam H.

Yelp
Poke was decent, good but nothing mind-blowing. I may try a different sauce next time as I usually like my sauce a little sweeter. I got the mango aloha and creamy sauce. I thought they could've given more protein considering the dish was $20 after adding tobiko. I enjoyed the noodles. Very sweet people were working there. I do think this place should get more attention. It's a bit of a hole in the wall. It's a low key and casual vibe inside. Plenty of seating. There's parking right outside too.

Yelp
A very quiet and off the road poke house and it is indeed fresh, plentiful, and artistically done. Made by three artists the bowls are ordered from kiosks which is quite easy. Table service in my case but many are to go orders. Not table service in that they bring it to you, but they did me. The salmon and tofu were fresh and the massago was plentiful. That's rare. As I make my rounds across various poke places this is near the top, if not the top for freshness.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
This was a tucked away spot that I almost missed. I did the build your own and they put it together with care. Everything was good but honestly nothing blew me away for the price point. It was a good portion size and I liked the ambiance inside the restaurant. I'm not sure if I'd return though with how many other poke options there are in town.

Yelp
I can see why the majority of people here rates 5 stars. It's absolutely on point! It's now my go-to place for Poke in Austin, and if you name it, I've probably tried it. I've actually never dined in, but always ordered take out, and it's impeccable every time. Fresh, delicious, pretty presentation--the only downside is that it is on the pricey side, but the portions do seem a lot larger than others. Love the potato glass noodles, which you don't really see as often. I've seen her craft the bowl, and she's very meticulous. Due to this, if you order online, make sure to do it around 20-30 minutes in advanced. Also, I don't know what it is with the take out containers, but it matters, and I love this one. If I'm going to eat Poke, hands down, it's going to be Epic Poke :)

Yelp
The five star ratings for this place are well deserved. Located in a nondescript office park, you'd never suspect you'd find chef quality poke here and yet it exists. The fish is absolutely fresh, a key for quality poke. They also offer sweet potato noodles as a base for entrees, something I haven't seen before, along with mixed greens or rice. In fact, all of the ingredients here are stellar. The best part is the service, in how the folks behind the counter work together to assemble the bowls so beautifully while cranking out the volume needed to feed the hungry masses arriving here. It's not exactly inexpensive, but the quality is well worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Best poke bowl I've had in Texas and 5-star experience all around!! Only negative is the price, almost $20 for my bowl and surprising that I've found cheaper in NYC & SF. But it's honestly so hard to find great poke here and no doubt, I will be back! For what it's worth, ingredients are fresh and plentiful. I made a custom bowl with a mixed base (rice & sweet potato noodles). While not typical in a poke bowl, I loved the Korean fusion twist -- the noodles are a must! I chose double spicy salmon as my protein and seaweed salad, mango, jalapeños, cucumbers, carrots, pickled ginger, green onions, nori as my toppings. I love that you can choose 2 sauces and I chose the Spicy Creamy (essentially Spicy Mayo) and Korean Chili. Great combo if you love a little spice! Service was also phenomenal. I called before since my ETA was 2 minutes after their closing and the lady who picked up was so kind and welcomed me to come in. When ordering she patiently helped answer questions about the menu. The kiosks to place your order make for a fast and seamless ordering experience. I got my meal in no time, and my poke bowl was both filling and satisfying. If you're searching for great poke bowl in Austin, look no further!!

Yelp
Quiet compact little spot in an office park with terrific poke and service. Several nice standard combinations or build yor own bowl. They offer chicken and vegan tofu options for those not into raw fish, ad well as some salad and noodle options. I had the Texas Heat which is a great level of spicy, and my partner opted for the Vegan Flow poke is not her thing. Counter service with a nice "nearline" ordering system. Modest selection of beverages including a couple of beers.
google avatar

D B.

Yelp
The Texas Heat bowl was everything I wanted in poke - cold things were VERY cold, hot things (rice) were hot, and the detailed way the owner artistically filled my bowl was well above the typical food fare. And THIS is what you are paying for. Was it a little more than I wanted to pay? Yes, for sure! But, was it worth it? Yup! And did I go back the very next day? Yup to that one too! So, if you are a first time poke person, I highly recommend this place! I will say that more nori and more (or some) furikake would be much appreciated, but this is GOOD EATS for sure!

Yelp
Epic poke has some of the best poke I've ever had. I've recommended it to friends who also agree. Ingredients are all super fresh and there are tons of options to pick from. This is not traditional Hawaiian poke, but instead you do get a ton of fun additions including Korean sweet potato noodles which are delicious with poke. The owners are always careful to arrange and package your food so it still looks pretty when you get home. Portions are generous. I feel lucky to live 3 minutes from here :)

Yelp
Their hours are from Monday- Saturday 11am-2:30pm and 4:30pm-8:30pm. Sunday 2:30pm-4:30pm. You order and pay on the tablet inside located against the wall. Your order will then be sent to the chef to make your order. The tables and chairs inside are bar heights. We ordered 2 Thai teas, Texas Heat poke bowl, and custom poke bow. Both of our poke was good. My custom poke bowl was missing ingredients I added on but the chef was happy to give those missing items after inspecting my poke bowl. Thế ingredients were fresh and it was pretty tasty. The best poke bowl in Austin and definitely live up to its name of Epic Poke! The boba thai tea was very milky and not the best I had.
google avatar

Juliana M.

Yelp
Best poke I've everrrr had in my life. Highest quality ingredients and best selection. Really clean and well run also.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Epic Poke is by far my favorite poke place in Austin. I have gone during dinner and lunch time and never have trouble snagging a table. Ordering is done on iPads at the front which makes it easy to customize based on dietary restrictions. This is a family owned business and the owners are so nice and answer any questions I have. While a little pricey, the portion sizes are very large and they include sweet potato noodles which is different from the norm but I highly recommend. Everything always tastes fresh and I can tell a lot of care is put into making each bowl.
google avatar

Stacie H.

Yelp
Beautiful big bowls! I grew up on poke in Hawaii, so my personal preference is for straightforward fish and rice, but this is a great option for non-traditional, veggie heavy, Korean influenced bowls. The staff was very kind and welcoming. When placing my order (OG bowl), I was prepared to share my topping selections and was surprised that they include every single mix in automatically. The result is a very hefty and colorful creation. I particularly liked the inclusion of sweet potato noodles with its savory flavor and chewy texture. I'll be back!
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
Ingredients are FRESH!! $16.95 to build your own bowl. I love the purple ish rice and the sweet potato noodles. My fav is salmon with poke ponzu dressing. Family owned and are very very sweet! Support local!!
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
Really good create your own bowl. The rice was warm. The fried onion flakes were crispy. Everything was good. Will be back!

Yelp
There's a LOT of bad poke places in Austin. Small cuts of subpar fish, inconsistency with the sauces and topping, but still charging a buttload. Epic Poke is not one of those. It is the best Poke in Austin that I've found, by a wide margin. You don't get little wimpy bit of day-old fish. You get big, chunky pieces that are closer to what you'd expect at Kome or a nice Sushi place, and every extra and topping neatly portioned out. They have never messed up an order and always have it ready for pick up with a smile within 10-15m. They don't seem to offer Wasabi which is my only minor complaint, but I simply have my own at home from HEB so it's no biggie. This place probably charges a bit more than most Poke places but it's worth the price, I promise. You get much better fish, much more of it.You can consistency and friendly, quick service. Do yourself a favor a swing by for a really excellent poke bowl.

Abigail W.

Yelp
I love this place, every time I go I always look forward to it, the fish is so fresh along with their produce, highly suggest going here if you're looking for amazing poke!
google avatar

Teri K.

Yelp
I had a wonderful, filling lunch at Epic Poke. Decided to make my own with lettuce and sushi rice (well seasoned). Glad I went with double ahi tuna and large chunks of avocado for a generous portion ~$21. Great selection of sauces as well and many gluten free options. Very nice and fast service too. I wish there were more locations in Austin. Delicious
google avatar

Harrison K.

Yelp
Great poke in a little hidden location here in Austin. Definitely the best poke I've had in Austin so far! The couple running the place makes the bowls by hand and the toppings are so colorful and tasty. Great variety as well! Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Charli V.

Yelp
Really enjoyed epic poke. Was interesting to see them in this executive/office plaza. We arrived at 11:07 and were the first patrons of the day. Everything was freshly put out and organized. My partner and I split a custom bowl. Something that stood out to me is the spicy tuna isn't the grounded/mashed tuna in use to, it's actually ahi cubes with whatever their spicy sauce is. Delish! Also the rice here is purple rice! :) lots of Korean influences, I would say. I can appreciate the ramekin of toppings for hygienic reasons and so the "crispy" items don't get soggy. Overall, our bowl and a Mexican coke was $18 The decor was cute and eccentric. Would def come back!
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
The name says it all. Their poke is genuinely epic. I had the Texas Heat. My daughter had The OG. So much flavor, so much texture. And all ingredients were so fresh. Service was very friendly and helpful. My daughter said her bowl was "unapologetically flavorful".
google avatar

Shin L.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible and very cute poke place. Considering freshness and quantity, the best poke in Austin. Getting the food will take a while because it is often one (very nice) lady making each bowl, but it is definitely worth it. Whenever I come I find myself wishing that there was more fish, but it's not that they don't give a lot of protein- they give huge chunks of salmon. It's more because they just give so much rice and vegetables, which I suppose is a good problem to have. This place is on the pricier side, over $16 without tax/tip.

Jorge L.

Yelp
This place lives up to its reviews! Great fresh, tasty, mouthwatering food. Would highly recommend. Very relaxed environment, and awesome service!!!! 10/10 Thank you Epic Poke for the great food. Keep it up!

Natalie L.

Yelp
Great food and very nice workers. Very fresh vegetables and great options with spice levels and sides galore
google avatar

Lee H.

Yelp
Best Poke in Austin, hands down! Amazing service and food. Great owners. Every single dish comes out looking unique, fresh, and delicious. Somewhat expensive, but you get what you pay for.
google avatar

Lori D.

Yelp
Best poke place around! The bowls are delicious, fresh and have an excellent variety of toppings. Skip the nachos, as you get less fillings than in a bowl and they cost $2 more. The Texas heat bowls are our favorites! We get them with no salmon, double spicy tuna. The flavor is spot on. Call ahead for quicker service. They take 5-10 minutes to make. The prices are a little high for a poke place, but the bowls are big (we always have leftovers) and the variety of toppings is extensive. We prefer this poke place over the others. Trust me,, the price difference is 100% worth it. Be sure to add a side of the ponzu sauce, as it really kicks it up a notch!
google avatar

Aimee R.

Yelp
This is my favorite poke place in the Austin area! I usually order togo and I always have such a great experience, the staff is incredibly nice. Today I ate inside with my friends and we were checked on during our visit to see if we needed anything, so sweet!! 6 stars if possible!!!
google avatar

Kaelyn S.

Yelp
Food was just amazing. My mom and I absolutely recommend it! The fish was fresh, and their sauce is so good!
google avatar

MJ C.

Yelp
Amazing service and food!! This is the best poke I've had in Texas and the freshest fish in atx. Everyone was super sweet when we ordered and food was made fast and came out warm. Loved it!

Emma W.

Yelp
Hands down the best poke in Austin. I've tried almost every where and nothing compares to this place. The portion is huge. Two thumbs up.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
A little over priced and not the BEST poke I've had but still a good place, the price was just a little to much to ask for but still paid and still ate it all
google avatar

Shelbi P.

Yelp
The food was really fresh and wonderful, the shop is very cute, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Although I will say it helps to have a sense of humor and even better if you're not picky. My poke bowl was very good but it wasn't exactly what I ordered, they had swapped my cucumbers for carrots and there were add ons that I hadn't asked/payed for and some of the other customers were missing things or got things they didn't want, but overall was a good experience.
google avatar

Ryan A.

Yelp
EPIC POKE? Damn right it's epic!!! Hands down one of the best poké bowls in Austin. This small hole in the wall restaurant looks like an office from the outside but once you step in, you'll experience a cool chill & clean environment to have lunch, or dinner. They offer an awesome variety of options on their menu. You can order one of their most popular bowls or customize your own! I ordered the "OG BOWL" and it's was perfect for this out of control heat outside! Filling enough to keep my satisfied without breaking my stomach or my budget. Also everyone that works there were super friendly and polite. I'll definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Trang N.

Yelp
This is a Korean owned restaurant I am surprise and disappointed at myself to write this but seeing those 5 stars reviews really put my expectation up there. It is interesting but I wouldn't say it's super and make me wanna come back. $16 is a hefty price for a poke bowl. Not a lot of fishes but lots of veggies. Texas heat is a super spicy bowl. Sweet potato is Korean glass noodle.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
Overpriced and pretty terrible. The salmon was COLD. Like, it had an ice crystal crunch to it. It ruined the entire bowl.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
At first I thought this place was little pricey until I got my meal. The O.G. ($12.95) comes in a massive bowl loaded with tons of veggies. It was definitely filling, I couldn't even finish it. I did think for the price it could have a little bit more meat and less veggies because the ratio is definitely off. It also needs more sauce to accommodate all those veggies. Most bites I was just eating plain raw veggies. I also liked how it had noodles and purple rice which is different than most poke places but would have been nice to have more sauce on the noodles so it didn't taste so bland. Would I go again? Yes but not go out of my way to get it.
google avatar

Suji P.

Yelp
What a gem! This place is an upgrade of any fast casual dining experience. From the garden in front of the restaurant to silverware, you can tell the owner puts care of every detail. Truly authentic and EPIC. Speaking of the food, the most freshest ingredients I've ever tried w poke and very tasty. Also very authentic. I especially enjoyed the glass noodles and the gochujang sauce among others. You should check this place out to Just to see the mural. It's the mural icon, Kerry Awn's work!! Did not expect to see such an art here. Hands down, one of the top restaurants in Austin. As a restauranteur myself, I really appreciate all the details and cares the owner has put in the place. I wish they had a location in downtown.
google avatar

Taylor N.

Yelp
Super fresh and tasty!! I really loved the purple rice and all the toppings. I got the ponzu sauce and it was perfect; not too salty or overpowering. I just wish they had different size options here. The bowl was generous in size, but it cost $17 so it's about on the same price point as all other poke places. Overall, the quality of the poke here is above other ones I've tried in Austin so I recommend trying it out!
google avatar

Cate H.

Yelp
The BEST poke place I've ever had! I had to go twice in my trip that was only 6 days. Try the sweet potato noodles! So yummy! I also really liked the matcha boba. I have nothing but good things to say about this place.
google avatar

Annie F.

Yelp
I am so in love with this place. The food is so fresh and delicious and the woman working was so kind. My friend and I had just gotten our nails done and she offered to pour our sauces for us and help us ration it to two bowls. Also the mural is so cool. Really great spot. Love jessie and Annie
google avatar

Hira S.

Yelp
The most amazing and delicious poke bowl in austin. Price is high but you get about two meals worth of food in there. Very kind lady preparing the food as well.
google avatar

Logan G.

Yelp
This is easily my favorite poke place in Austin, I usually get the OG heat bowl (not too Spicy if you don't eat the jalapeños lol) and add crab meat to it. The portion size is large! And taste amazing every time. Plus the owner and workers are very polite! It also has a nice relaxing interior and easy to go online order system. I'm a lifetime customer!
google avatar

Brenda M.

Yelp
This is the best poke I've ever had! I'm from the PNW where fresh seafood is quality, this poke was so fresh and delicious. At first, I was taken back from the prices but when the bowls came out- it was 100% justified. The portions are out of this world and the flavor and freshness was spectacular. The only downside was that there was no restrooms for the customers- being 8 months pregnant this wasn't the best news. However the food was toooooo good to complain about it.
google avatar

Kat W.

Yelp
This was the best poke I've ever had in Austin. It's so fresh! The bowl and portion was huge and filling. The owners were also so sweet and friendly and didn't mind me finishing my bowl even after they closed. Do yourself a favor and try the sweet potato noodles as a base... TRUST ME. This place is just down the street from me so I look forward to coming back many, many more times!

Pamela E.

Yelp
This is the best poke in Austin, hands down. The owners are always incredibly kind and provide excellent service. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are great. The place itself is cute and always super tidy. I come here about once a week, and it's delicious every single time!

Yelp
I'm happy to see that they're open again! Learned yesterday that it's the same owners as the last place, however they've switched up the concept a bit and changed the name. That made me so happy as I had previously fallen in love with the offerings before the revamp. Stopped by yesterday, they're only doing curbside right now due to COVID-19, however online ordering was a breeze, and the same friendly service just brought to your car at this time. The bowl was ginormous. They do not play with the portions. Everything was fresh, plentiful and delicious. Healthiest lunch I've had in quite some time. See y'all soon.
