"To those not in the know, the recent re-opening of Lower East Side American restaurant and bar Epstein’s is just another new spot in the neighborhood. But to certain neighbors, it’s a disastrous development in a years-long fight between harried locals and what they call a problematic part of Hell Square. During its 11-year-long tenure at the corner of Stanton and Allen streets, Epstein’s held a reputation as a place to go party — contributing to how that area got the moniker “Hell Square,” for its drunken crowds, noise, and brawls. New owners Rick Aurigemma and Josh Acheatel acknowledge this, but they are trying to move away from that reputation with this reboot. They’ve hired a new chef named Joe Marchisotta, who worked at Daniel and has created a pub menu with burgers, wings, salads, and wraps. Notably, a brunch offering includes an entree and two drinks for $25. The full menu is below. “We’re going to be more of a restaurant at this point. We’re not looking to be that bar, standing crowd, loud music place,” Aurigemma says. “The neighborhood doesn’t want that. It’s not calling for another bar with loud music and a line out front.”" - Stefanie Tuder

They recently remodeled the bar and it looks beautiful hip and created a great atmosphere for cocktails and a bite to eat. We had their fried chicken n biscuit with gravy and their incredibly great hot sauce that has a dash of honey which goes great on the fried chicken. The cut of meat is great quality although the breading in my opinion is lacking just a little bit of seasoning but it was still very good. The friendly waitresses and waiters work great together to give you a fantastic experience. Stop in and try out this new bar its GREAT!

We were there on a Saturday in April for drinks and a good time. Epstein’s delivered. Awesome music, good service and easy standard drinks delivered. Can’t comment on the taste of the food; it looked good when we saw it come out. Would return!

Revamped reopening of a neighborhood local. Very chill spot on the LES. Very friendly bar staff. We were the lucky customers to be the first to order off their new food menu. We got the wings which were very tasty! Great sauce, meaty and cooked very well! Their happy hour prices are really good too! We will be back!

So happy they redid this place. The decor is nicer, the staff is friendly and the patrons are less bro-y. Still has a dive bar sense even though they make it look nice. Lots of tvs and beers. Good place to grab a beer between shows or to kill time.

This bar was literally a block away from where I stayed during my trip. Excellent happy hour! $3 all beers and well drinks, 50% off on all apps from 5pm-8pm, Mon.- Fri. CASH ONLY Servers are nice. I tried the wings and they were okayyy! Pretty dry but can't complain, it was only $4 bucks! Great place for some drinks after work with friends. There's indoor and patio seating. Very loud after 9PM.

Cool bar to stop in for some drinks with friends. Eclectic environment, unpretentious and unapologetically itself. Bar staff was very friendly and efficient. Try one of their espresso martinis. The old fashioned and the tequila mule were also solid drink choices.

Firgured I’d come here to have a good time with friends. I really wanted this place to be good especially because it uses my name, instead I got the opposite. The manager was extremely rude and didn’t have the decency to change a channel on one of their three TVs when asked nicely. I thought he was joking, but was actually not a joke how rude he was being. The food was below par and I’m never coming back again.
