The 15 Best Restaurants In Kendall

"Independent, fast-casual Tex-Mex spots are about as hard to find in Miami as free parking. And while we feel quite sad for our collective lives devoid of lard-infused beans, salsa bars, and deep-fried deliciousness—we’re also happy Ernesto’s exists. This is an ideal spot to sit by yourself with a chimichanga, quesadilla, or plate of carne asada fries and wash it down with horchata. If you can’t decide what to get, go for one of the combination platters. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino

Google
I’ll start this off by saying, I’m a VERY picky eater. But I absolutely LOVED this place. I ordered taquitos. And I devoured them. SO GOOD! Will definitely be returning!

Natali Pachon

Google
I had an awful experience at this taco shop, especially considering the promotion they were running for a buy one, get one free offer. One of the salads I ordered came with absolutely no protein, which was a major issue. When I called to address the problem, they insinuated I was lying about it. I explained that I work nearby and don’t live nearby to come in the same day. I’d come the day after and that I even took photos to show them the missing protein. Instead of addressing the mistake, they told me that they could only offer me the meat and still questioned my honesty. To top it off, the staff was incredibly unprofessional throughout the entire exchange. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Google
I’ve been coming here for 7 years and have always been impressed with the food and available picked veggies (onions, carrots, jalapeños). However, something is going on here as the last two times I’ve ordered to three amigos tacos with al pastor, the meat has not been good. Last time it was dry and hard and tasted old. Today it’s insanely greasy (see pictures). Again - solid for years and something has changed or something but hope it’s only temporary.

Greg Johnson

Google
I ate here and the food tastes well for a low price. I ordered the carne asada tacos as I can get crunchy corn tortilla. The rest of the items appear to be wheat flour tortilla. They serve breakfast as well as lunch dinner. The prices are very good

Google
After taste the food in the other Mexican restaurants in Miami Beach, different of this one (was so disappointed) …..I didn’t give up and decided to come here and the truth is that my love for Mexican food returned. If you have the opportunity to come and try you will not regret it.

Victor Labrada

Google
My wife and I have been coming here for years, and it keeps getting better. I usually get three carne asada tacos, she gets the carnitas and al pastor tacos and the horchata. You get enough meat and guacamole to make six tacos if you really wanted to. Great flavor, great value, great people working there, nice "hole in a wall" atmosphere. There is zero pretense— if you're tired of trendy taco places, you will be relieved to eat here. My wife, who is South American, has been to Mexico and can brag about having "authentic Mexican food," loves these tacos. That's as glowing a review as you can give.

Google
Carne asada burrito was amazing. Bigger than your head

Abimael Vasquez

Google
As a Mexican living in Miami, this has been the best and most authentic restaurant I’ve found here in 5 years. Staff is great and the food selections is amazing.

Yelp
The food here at Ernesto's is authentic! The place is clean and they're very friendly. My son brought me there so from now on I will be getting my tacos here. I had the taco al pastor and a chicken taco and my son had the breakfast burrito, he let me take a bite and it was so juicy and tasty. I would order one for me but I would have to share it bc it's very big and scrumptious. The place is clean and colorful just like in Mexico . Viva Mexico!!!

Yelp
Ernesto's Taco Shop is a great spot if you are in the Miami area and craving some Mexican food. The carne asada burrito is my go-to and I would definitely recommend this particular menu item. The staff here is friendly enough and while the inside is pretty much a no-frills type ambiance, I have always maintained that the best Mexican food doesn't come from some higher end type place with a strong emphasis on ambiance, but rather I have found thatthe best Mexican food comes from these humble little mom-and-pop type places. Ernesto's Taco Shop has been around for quite a bit of time. It definitely has its loyal customer following and has earned a pretty good reputation. That reputation definitely is well earned. Ernesto's Taco Shop is definitely a pretty solid choice if you are in the Miami, Florida area and craving Mexican food. It definitely has my recommendation.

Yelp
Looks like a hole in the wall that will have great food. Is in reality just a hole in the wall.... Without the food worth going out of the way for Service was friendly Ambiance was fine Shrimp tacos were fine but nothing superior / worth seeking out Barbacoa burrito was massive but once you open it up it's sadly a wet, sopping mess. Not very flavorful nor compelling

Yelp
If you're looking for a tasty taco in the Kendall area, stop by Ernestos. Been enjoying them for years. Pleasant atmosphere. Excellent food and excellent service!!

Yelp
What's a visit to South Florida without Ernesto's. If you want authentic Mexican food it's worth a visit. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Everything is absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Great place!! We got the fiesta plate and carne asada burrito it was delicious!! Cynthia was very helpful and so nice! We loved our experience here and will be back again!

Yelp
My fav Mexican place for over 20 years!! Love their carrot, onion topping and must try!! I crave this place always. Fav: 3 amigos tacos with everything and don't forget to + the carrot onion topping ask for it (thank me later) Owners and workers are super nice!

Laura S.

Yelp
Ordered a burrito/cheese enchilada combo. The enchilada was drowning in sauce and once I cut into it, it was full of cold unmelted cheese. Same thing with the refried beans. I get its inexpensive Mexican food, but do better. This is total garbage.
google avatar

Marvin O.

Yelp
Deeeeeeeeelicous!!! I'll make this short and sweet! Get a carne asada burrito!! Super filling and yummy. The horchata was tasty, chips were nice and crunchy with lots of fresh salsas! The staff are friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is nice and relaxed with lots of wall art. If you haven't been here you need to try them out I highly recommend it!!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite thing about this restaurant is the green salsa. It's amazing! Always consistent with the flavor. I always order the beans tostada. I don't get tired of it.! The quesadillas and burritos are also great. Thank you for a great meal.
google avatar

Christina O.

Yelp
I ordered the burrito from here and it was pretty basic. I do have to say it did come with a lot of meat whereas other restaurants tend to skimp out on that

Yelp
I use to be a fan of Ernesto's back in the day. I believe we stop going there because the last time we went the establishment looked dirty. I can't with dirty. We stopped going there around 7 years ago. Ernesto's has been in SW 107th Ave since the longest. So we decide last we to get delivery from there. Previously the food was always good. Unfortunately, the food was horrible this time. The guacamole tasted like a handful of celintro and my nachos were bland. No beads in my nachos. The cheese tasted old. The food was yucky. My husband mentioned that his order wasn't up to par either and he is a chef
google avatar

Simon P.

Yelp
First time here decided to order the steak quesadillas... the food was fresh and tasted good and the pico de gallo was OK. I think the only Issue I had was the fact that the quesadilla has very little steak bits and PCs you could have practically counted them. I know everything is going up and it seems everyone is cutting back to make ends meet however I still felt for the price that they could have done better ! Other than that it tasted good!
google avatar

Jorge S.

Yelp
I love their California fries. Service was good and quick. Great place if you're trying to grab a quick bite of Mexican food
google avatar

natasha s.

Yelp
Ernesto's Taco Shop had numerous options to choose from & the service was polite and patient. The carne asada nachos were delicious!
google avatar

Cecilia B.

Yelp
The food here is extremely expensive. Bad customer service, and cold tortillas and very little Al pastor meat!
google avatar

Simon B.

Yelp
Still one of the best Mexican places in Miami. Everything is good. The California fries are my go to option every time but I went with the Chimichanga this time and now I don't know which one I will order next time I go. Hard decisions ! Lovely food.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with the wife and my 2 boys Very good food fast service super clean restaurant was really impressed by everything definitely a must try

Yelp
Ernesto's has some of the best tacos in Kendall. If you do not like these tacos, then you don't like tacos. My wife, who brags constantly about how good the tacos in Mexico and California are, loves these tacos. They season their meat the way it's supposed to be seasoned and their horchata is excellent. What the one star reviews seem to have in common is that they were looking for some touristy spot. Ernesto's is a hole in a wall. I've never had a problem with customer service, they're always fast and attentive. If you want ambiance or something instagrammable, go to Wynwood or a mall. If you want better tacos than Ernesto's, you'll have to drive down to Homestead.
google avatar

Kelli K.

Yelp
A friend and I each ordered the carne asada burrito (with everything on it). They were delicious and filled with authentic Mexican flavors. I'll take this burrito over Chipotle's any day.
google avatar

Alex V.

Yelp
Best tacos in kendall the inly ones that are just like California Mexican tacos all the other one are bootleg a real taco shop serve menudo that how you know this is a real taco shop

Keffin E.

Yelp
Guac straight from the can. Disgusting! Honestly, Taco Bell is better than this place. The pico is literally dry and at least 1 day old. This place isn't fresh. Never again!

Robert O.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for years and will continue coming. My go to is the Nachos Al Pastor. Unfortunately, they are hit or miss. This time around they went light on the protein. None the less this is a good spot for some Mexican food.
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
Taquitos were dry as a bone with cold shredded cheese on top. $7 for 3 pieces - Pass! The tacos - el pastor-dry and not that great. The carnitas were pretty good, very greasy, but to be expected. Carne asada burrito, I'm told was great. Except came with nothing, no chips or any side. Probably wouldn't come back, there are much better taco shops, better prices too.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Ernesto's never disappoints their taquito dinner is my ultimate favorite. It brings 4 crispy rolled taquitos on a bed of lettuce and tomatoes with yummy melted cheese on top, re fried beans, rice, chips, and of course can't forget the guacamole or the sour cream!! not to mention the horchata.. OMGGGG that's my fave.. it's like drinking an arroz con leche. Definitely my go to spot when I'm in Kendall and I'm craving a quick yummy little meal.
google avatar

DJuan L.

Yelp
The atmosphere was cool, but the food....not so much. I got 2 fish tacos; one soft shell and one hard. The food came out fairly quick and the prices were pretty reasonable. The restaurant was clean and the cashier was pleasant. My only issue is with the food. The fish for the tacos were breaded, but the breading had no flavor. The taco was pretty dry as well, so I'm glad I grabbed a couple of the salsas. The salsas were self-serve and were just okay in my opinion. I'd choose the green over the red
google avatar

Annie B.

Yelp
Overall Great Mexican food! I orders cheese enchiladas (no meat for me) with side order of beans (they were delicious and rice (stale, not much flavor) which is why I have it four not five stars - however it was enough food without the ri- maybe too much food - the Tostada was delicious - the greens were super crispy and fresh. Kids had quesadilla platter and beef tacos and said best tacos and quesadilla hands down. Friendly staff and great choice of salsas!

Mary Q.

Yelp
I've actually waited a few orders in to make my review ... I am very pleased with their food. I've tried several different items and none disappointed. I had the pleasure of meeting the couple that owns the restaurant one morning while enjoying my breakfast burrito and they were very nice. I wish them success and happiness. The place is nothing fancy but it's worth it. Not sure if they've been the same owners... I remember going here many years ago and it wasn't as good. They have some outdoor seating which is nice and accommodating. I love their burritos and the salad tortilla bowl is yummy! The staff is very nice and helpful. I will keep going back. Try it! Maybe I'll go again this weekend.

Yelp
I have gone to this restaurant before -on Caribbean Blvd in CutLer Bay, FL. and I went tonight Oct. 10, 2022. The food is mediocre and overpriced but o k. Tonight the young waitress was EXTREMELY RUDE to me for no reason! I asked her a couple of questions and she verbally attacked me like I was her worst enemy and I don't even know her! Apparently she had a very bad day and was taking out her BAD MOODS on all of the Customers. it was totally uncalled for and she was very NASTY and even HATEFUL! I asked to talk to the manager or the owner and she said that she was mgr and owner! I won't ever go back there and neither Will any of my friends or family or neighbors!!
google avatar

Yelp
I got the chicken tacos. Very good and fresh. Place is clean yet small. There are a few outdoor tables. Staff is friendly. Prices are good.

Yelp
Starving and came here for a quick lunch with my boyfriend. The place was not too busy for a weekday lunch was convenient for us since our food came out quickly. I decided to order the California Fries $8.95 which are string fries loaded with beef and other Mexican toppings. The fries platter was massive and I also utilized their salsa bar to further dress my fries. All in all I enjoyed the fries but do wish the meat had a little more flavor/seasoning. My boyfriend ordered the Al Pastor Torta $8.50 which was a nice size and delicious. I almost wish I could have gotten the Al Pastor on my fries! It was a quick affordable meal but definitely not the best Mexican I've ever had, but suitable. Would come back if in the area and had to settle on another quick meal! IG: @KFitzEats

Yelp
The price's that are listed are not correct. Im not sure if it's more expensive on 107th, but what's listed is not close to what their menu says. Today I had the chicken taco salad. It was okay. My husband ordered the menudo soup which I'd only the on Saturday and Sunday. It looked delicious, but he said it was slimy. That was a waste of 10.00. We ended up going to gyroville which is a store away. I ordered the Chicken quesadilla the last time U stopped in and it was yummy. I honestly think that you can't really mess up quesadillas. I wish they would give you a little more sour cream. The quesadilla and salad are large, but the sour cream container is rather small. I ordered both times to go. Maybe they give you more when you eat there or maybe they do it on purpose so they can sell you a side of sour cream. Lol!
google avatar

Josette S.

Yelp
I think I may have only been here once before and ordered and very simple cheese quesadilla. This time around I was starving and ordered at steak burrito. It comes with guacamole and pico de gallo. I asked to add cheese (of course). First off the burrito is ginormous and it is packed with carne asada. You can definitely share the burrito. The carne asada was wonderfully seasoned and pretty lean meat. They have a small salsa bar with with two types of salsa and those spicy carrots which make your nose runny, but are delicious to have. Service wise, our order was taken promptly and we barely had to wait for our meals to be served. Oh and you have to of course try the horchata.
google avatar

Jose D.

Yelp
Decided to have a night in and have food delivered to us in the Kendall area. We were all craving Mexican and landed on Ernesto's taco shop. The food arrived promptly and everything was exactly what we ordered including a special instructions with the order. We all decided to go with the taco salad which had a nice presentation for a delivered meal. The food portions were good and there was a good amount of meat. My only problem was that a lot of the ingredients seemed pre-made especially the guacamole.
google avatar

Salena L.

Yelp
been coming here for about 15 years and obsessed! my dad used to bring my sisters and I their breakfast burritos when we were in high school and they are the best! we get the breakfast burrito with eggs, bacon, cheese, and potato's and it comes with chips, we also ask for the green chili on the side and love that combination! my whole family and i love this place and will continue coming as long as it's here in miami! (the taco shell is also very yummy as well! it's like the taco shell for their salad or something but we order it alone as is and it's so crunchy and yummy!)
google avatar

Natalie D.

Yelp
We order take out from here quite often! The food is always fresh and delicious. The chicken salad in the taco shell is my absolute favorite!
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
Place is really good but they closed an hour early. They close at 9pm not 10 like google says

Yelp
I am a taco snob, yes I do enjoy my tacos. After eating them for over 20 years at my local cantina, The 5 Burro Cafe here in Queens NY, I know what a good taco tastes like. While visiting in Kendall Florida recently I came across Ernesto's Taco Shop. Located in a strip mall, where else, this taco joint is open almost 24 hours. I ordered 3 tacos; al Pastor, beef, and pork with a side of rice and beans. These tacos were amazing fresh and full of flavor. As I sat there eating my meal I realized that I had just found a taco as good as the 5 Burro's or anybody else's for that matter. If you live in the Kendall area or are just visiting give Ernesto's a try. I think you'll also agree that these are some tasty tacos!!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Ernesto's delivered the goods. Let me tell you, I was hungry and looking forward to some munching on some American-ized Mexican food. The Taco Salad was my order of choice. To be honest, I thought the amount of food shown on the Yelp page was a bit of an exaggeration. "There's no way they give you all this food for such a low price," I pondered. "It's too good to be true." Well, folks, believe it! This large, soft taco bowl contains a monstrous amount of meat, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and so on. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep the food on the plate and thus embarrass myself in front of my friends. Speaking of friends, I could see the Taco Salad being a great dish to bring to parties. The taco bowl is soft enough to break apart and use as individual scooping pieces. Bring it to your next party (or just order it for your table) and all your friends will love you forever.
google avatar

Yennifer G.

Yelp
So, my cousin asked me to get him nachos with cheese from this place to go, everything perfect, once I had already paid she tells me "oh you have to warm everything up yourself we don't have melted cheese just the chesse ontop of the nachos." She didn't mention that before I placed the order when I clearly said "to go please since we don't have time we are going on the road." What type of places gives you nachos and just tells you to go home and warm it up. They can't even do it there. Maybe next time they'll tell me to take the meat and cook it at home. They need to be clear and not bullshit around their orders.

Francesca B.

Yelp
Food was great and carne asada was real juicy. We had the steak quesadilla, tacos and refried beans.

Susan H.

Yelp
We have been loyal customers for 20 years! They never disappoint! Great family-owned small business with another location in Country Walk. There is a 3rd but the owners are different and the food is not the same as the one in Kendall and Countywalk! Highly recommend!!

E S.

Yelp
Great Customer Service and Very Pleasant Staff. The Food was amazing and the serving portions were perfect. Love the Nachos.....California Fries are amazing. Ver Happy and I will visit again and will recommend Ernesto's Taco Shop to my Friends and Family.

Yelp
Made a pit stop here today as I was craving some home made tacos. I must say that their prices are great. Reasonable. I ordered their combo#7 which happened to be the carne asada combo which brought, two corn tortillas, mexican rice, refried beans, guacamole and chips. It was good except that it lacked salt. They have a lunch special of a chicken burrito, chips, salsa and a drink for $7.99, which I think it's a good deal for a quick lunch. I also liked how they have traditional mexican goodies and Jarritos. The place is small but their menu is ample and they also serve breakfast. I will give it another try in the near future. It definitely beats processed foods from taco bell.

Joel P.

Yelp
Great food and service, recomendado 100% los tacos son excelentes, iría otra vez, gracias
google avatar

Kaleena S.

Yelp
Good food but they lock up before posted closing time. Came to grab a quick bite on the way home. Checked their site, said they were open till 8. Got there 740 and they were already locked up no signage to indicate emergency closure or anything. If you post that you're open till 8 then you're open till 8. If you want to close early then change your close time or in thr event of an issue that prevented you from conducting business post a sign letting people know you're closed early. Had a toddler with me that we got out of a carseat just to get him back in. Wasn't the funnest process

Alexis G.

Yelp
Bad customer service the girl on the front don't have a clue of the menu not a good tacos don't waste you time and money

Yelp
Ernesto's is what you would consider a hole in the wall. Not sure how they used to be before Covid but it seems they've limited capacity on the inside and added tables outside to comply with social distancing. Clean establishment. A bit cluttered if you're headed to the bathroom but I'm sure they are working on moving things around. Let's call it a work in progress. The staff is friendly and quick. A few people walked in while we were eating and they are so quick with their order taking, food preparation and delivery. Some people walked in just by chance, others because they were picking up their Uber Eats or Postmates deliveries and others seem to be regulars. The food is super affordable! I got the chicken taco salad but was disappointed that it didn't come with refried beans or rice (should've asked) and a lot more lettuce than anything else. Your standard taco salad. It did come with a lot of pico and a side of guac (which was not extra woohoo) and a sour cream. They "glue down" the taco shell with refried beans though so I guess you can say it did come with refried beans lol. The shell is not greasy at all so that's a plus. The chimichanga was amazing! Gooey cheese on the inside and refried beans! It was delicious. With a side of pico, guac and sour cream. Wish I would've gotten that instead. Also not pictured, un jugo de maracuya which is my fav! Really refreshing and tasted pure not watered down at all.
