American comfort food, tapas, hookah, and clever cocktails
"With double-parked SUVs and tight one-ways all around, parking near Peters Street will have you reaching for a painkiller. Esco, from Grammy-winning rapper 2 Chainz, tries to make it all worth the trouble, but it ultimately falls short. It doesn’t matter how nice the waitress is or how well the bartender behind you sings Fantasia’s “When I See U” when tough calamari and bland mac-and-cheese egg rolls hit the table. The Cajun salmon and garlic mashed potatoes are pretty good, but we haven’t had broccoli that mushy since daycare. And if we’re keeping it a buck, sipping $15 cocktails from plastic cups doesn’t help our headache, either." - nina reeder, juli horsford, demarco williams, jacinta howard

"Opened about four years ago on Peters Street in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood, this restaurant and lounge focuses on a seafood-heavy menu of small plates and pairs those dishes with hookahs and a cocktail program. It operates for dine-in service and takeout, with online ordering available for pickup, and presents a lounge-like atmosphere alongside its food offerings." - Beth McKibben

"Co-owned by rapper 2 Chainz and Mychel “Snoop” Dillard, this Castleberry Hill restaurant on Peters Street was involved in a COVID-19 capacity controversy in late May: state police and the Department of Public Safety were reported to have intervened on May 24 after two complaints alleging violations of social‑distancing and capacity limits, with an initial warning just before 1 a.m. that led a manager to ask patrons to leave and temporarily close, and a later complaint that reportedly prompted a shutdown. Representatives for the owners said the closure was voluntary and the venue has since reopened for dine‑in and takeout; Instagram posts around May 26 promoted Taco Tuesday and happy hour specials, though earlier stories showing a crowded dining room were removed. The restaurant had planned to reopen its dining room on April 27 and reemploy about 120 furloughed staff but reversed that decision after reviewing the state’s 39 health and safety requirements, and 2 Chainz told Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms he delayed reopening to avoid putting employees at risk. Local reporting noted that two violations could keep an establishment closed for the duration of the governor’s executive order, which was set to expire May 31 unless extended." - Beth McKibben

"A representative for the Castleberry Hill Escobar Restaurant & Tapas told Eater that the restaurant planned to reopen its dining room on April 27 with stringent protocols — staff temperature checks before shifts and mandatory gloves and masks — but that decision was later reversed and the restaurant remained closed for dine-in service until further notice." - Beth McKibben
